A new year, a new opportunity. While the frantic festive spell saw me fail miserably in my attempt to take a bite out of Granville’s mini-league lead, January does at least hand me, and other stragglers, a chink of light. The Winter Wildcard could well be a false dawn, however. Having got my squad back on an even keel, the freedom to scrap it and start over is almost a scary prospect.

On the plus side, the situation certainly seems to have Granville spooked. My Mancunian rival is looking on his Wildcard with suspicion, leaving me hoping that, during his own January surgery, he makes one or two vital slips with the scalpel.

Around the Wildcard chatter, Granville and I deliberate over how to fill the Walcott-sized hole in our teams, whilst giving the regulars their usual airing. We even reveal plans on how you, yes you, the listener, can play a part in future ScoutCasts.

Please note: this show was recorded before Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko scored five goals against West Ham. Rest assured, I would have moaned further about the pairing’s miserable two points at Swansea had it been recorded following last night’s goal blitz.

Sweep with the new broom via this link or grasp the nettle of change via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

In the same predicament. Leaning Eriksen -- less owned and better potential for explosiveness. Also technically a better player.

But when all the premium strikers are back what will you do? For someone on low team value he is a good pick, but most should be aiming for more.

so you think his tactics/formation are spot-on? just lack of world class talent.

No I don't, he's making plenty of mistakes, but it's a new team for him.

There is a lack of depth of talent. The best of them are in the treatment room. Fergie extracted the maximum out of them, playing mainly 4-4-2,so I don't know where you're coming from tbh. Is crossing completely out of football fashion now?

i didn't rate it last season, you have to admit RVP papered over the cracks at times. valencia 120 plus crosses this season. 2 assists. he isn't even the worst crosser of the ball. just shows how ineffective it is. janujaz's ball to welbeck for the spurs goal. need more of that.

Playing wingers isn't working right now for various reasons. There is a lot of possession being wasted with aimless crossing into the box. It would be nice to see him altering tactics to accommodate the current form of the players. Our central midfielders need help.

You say City don't play that way, but what is Navas doing then? he's an out and out winger.

that first paragraph is pretty much my point. to give help in central midfield you have to sacrifice an out and out winger.

silva/nasri usually first choice right? they are both floating number 10s. they occassionally use navas if it isn't working or if silva is out. have no problem with moyes taking a similar approach.

Removing Walcott is absolutely essential. Morrison has fallen out of favour and his side have been poor recently. Lallana is rising tomorrow if not tonight and provides good value, form and fixtures. Eriksen has looked explosive recently and is at a discount price IMO. So option B makes sense value wise.

Another potential transfer would be to just do Walcott > Silva and hope that Cabaye plays, although from the reports I've seen he won't. So I'd recommend Walcott > Silva, Cabaye > Eriksen as the best transfer combo (again, IMO).

    @Hibbert

After trying all week not to WC I am now thinking whether to just use it now!

    Walcott used my FT
Davis Gazza combo about to break with Boruc maybe back
    Cabaye a doubt
    Rooney a doubt
Sterling place under threat either now or soon

My only reluctance is that I would want Aguero once he's back and maybe Ramsey but too soon to get them yet.

But that's just 2 transfers...the rest of my WC squad I am pretty settled on.

    My WC team would be

    Boruc Davis
    Terry Coleman Ward Chester Burner
    Hazard Silva Ozil Lallana Puncheon
    Suarez Negredo* Lukaku

*Cash in bank for obligatory Aguero switch

This is only 5 transfers (20 point hit) from my current team.

    Thoughts? Cheers

Ward/Chester/Burner comes to 12.0m averaged. Coleman at 5.0m. With the keepers that's less than 1/4 of the budget spent on 40% of the players.

I would rather Azpilicueta over Terry perhaps (unless you have had Terry sicne the start of the season) and either upgrade Turner to Koscielny or get rotating keepers.

That is just my opinion though, what you have is great, its actually the defence I had a couple of months ago which is why I am saying to switch it up (I probably consider it old and in need of an update).

I'd save the WC for the following reasons:

      1. Anyone could get injured/suspended over the next 3 games.
      2. Will be players bought/sold (always a few 2nd half of the season FF players)
      3. Aguero and Ramsey are two big players to be planning transfers for.
      4. I think Rooney will play and score well.
      5. Not sure what the other changes but think you could put out an equally/amost equally good side with a 4 point hit, WC worth more than that.

I'm torn whether to do rooney- Ade for -4. Tricky one, I'm thinking if he does play it may be a withdrawn role. May as well give pod a little run.

The whole rmwct baffles me somewhat. I totally understand asking ozil or caz etc, but If you feel u have indeed created a monster, then why so eager to share it and its possibilities, for people to copy?

Baffling isn't it. But most peoples teams are made up of 80% of the same players so maybe it doesn't matter too much. RMTs are certainly tedious and everybody just skips over them anyway

The "template team" is surely facilitated by the sharing of such detailed information -

But hey, I must confess that I have been a sharer and a beneficiary of such information -

RMT ----> Template teams ---> go hand in hand

Bony has scored against United twice this season. Their defence has been generally poor.

Palace have been off-form and Adebayor has found his feet again after being reintroduced into the side under Sherwood.

    I was here:
    http://i.imgur.com/tyCK9IQ.jpg (4m available)

Glaring things were Jedinak vs Puncheon, Kompany vs Terry, Coleman vs Baines, Burner vs Ward, Ade vs Sturridge.

Have freedom to do either Ade (/Sturridge) or JRod > Kun and Ozil > Ramsey.

    Now I'm here:
    http://i.imgur.com/jOvGj4m.jpg (0.7m available)

with Sturridge + Ozil > Kun + Ramsey.

    ---

I like the first one because it's a bit different..I like the second one because I have the aforementioned flexibility. 2 days to decide lol...

One difference with me is I am thinking Oscar & Haz rather than Gerrard & Haz to keep Suarez & Studge up front. Gerrard & Oscar same price…..for now….

I can get (hopefully) Gerrard in later after I switch Studge to Kun. Just feels less 'eggs in one basket' to me ?
