Victor Anichebe’s late leveller breaks the Chelsea resilience, though Branislav Ivanovic serves up attacking returns once again for the Blues. West Ham rack up their thirteenth shut-out of the season as James Collins gets amongst the goals against Norwich, Jose Fonte is Southampton’s match-winner at Hull, while Cardiff’s home clash with Villa ends goalless:

Anichebe Breaks the Blues Resilience
The Nigerian dropped to the bench last night as Pepe Mel opted for a front three in order to hand Thievy his first start for the Baggies. Anichebe needed little time to make an impact, though – thrown into the fray with just 18 minutes remaining, his late equaliser denied Jose Mourinho’s side the three points and continued the form which has now seen him score two and assist one of West Brom’s last three goals across the previous trio of league fixtures. The former Everton man certainly seems to be benefitting under Mel but his lack of consistent game time is undermining his budget potential – Anichebe has yet to start back-to-back matches since the Spaniard took the Hawthorns helm.

Ivanovic in the Points Yet Again
A goal and maximum bonus points helped the Serbian register a third consecutive double figure haul last night as his climb up the Fantasy rankings continues at pace. Ivanovic has now delivered two goals and an assist over the last three Gameweeks and with eight bonus points also thrown in over that period, is now up to 105 points – just 11 behind John Terry. The Chelsea skipper’s absence proved pivotal as Jose Mourinho’s side were denied a fourth straight shutout but with a mere three goals against in 10 league matches, those who chose Ivanovic as part of their Blues backline double-up plan were still firmly rewarded last night.

Bluebirds Blank Once More
A change of formation saw Ole Gunner Solskjaer move away from his preferred 4-2-3-1 last night as Fraizer Campbell was handed a role alongside Kenwyne Jones up top. With Craig Bellamy suspended, Craig Noone recovered from a muscle problem to take up his regular role on the right flank once again but the Bluebirds were unable to find the net for the fourth time in six matches under their new manager. Indeed, they have David Marshall to thank for keeping their own sheet clean. A string of saves helped the hosts to a first shutout since Gameweek 16, whilst home games against Hull and Fulham in the next three suggest further defensive returns could be on the menu.

Vlaar the Villa Rock
Paul Lambert also move to 4-4-2 in order to hand Marc Albrighton a start, after he impressed off the bench last weekend. The midlanders also welcomed back skipper Ron Vlaar from a hamstring injury and the Dutchman’s presence at the heart of the back-four ensured his side registered a seventh clean sheet of the season. With Vlaar in the starting line-up, Lambert’s side have shipped 25 goals in 19 appearances (1.3 per game), whilst without him they have shipped 11 in six, or 1.8 per game. With Norwich, Stoke, Fulham, Southampton and Hull still to visit Villa Park, the 4.3-priced Vlaar could be a decent cut-price option if he can steer clear of injuries.

Adrian’s Proving a Safe Pair of Hands for the Hammers
A 2-0 win over Norwich continued an incredible run of defensive form which has now brought five clean sheets in the last six Gameweeks. The Hammers have now registered an outstanding 13 shut outs in the opening 26 league fixtures, with the installation of Adrian between the posts looking a masterstroke by Sam Allardyce. Coming in at a mere 4.4, the Spaniard has also earned 11 extra save points over his eight appearances so far and has home games against Southampton and Hull allied with a trip to Stoke in the next four before the fixtures take a turn for the worse in Gameweek 31.

Collins Impressing in Both Boxes
The Welshman’s first goal of the season bodes well for his future game time at centre-half. Fit-again Winston Reid had climbed off the bench in each of the last two and was starting to threaten Collins’ central defensive partnership with James Tomkins, but with the latter adding goals to his resilient displays at the back, Allardyce looks highly unlikely to change a winning formula. This may leave Reid frustrated but hands Fantasy managers a bargain option in Collins, who is priced at just 4.1 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, ahead of the above-mentioned run of matches.

Fonte The Saints Goal Hero
The centre-half grabbed his third goal of the season as Southampton edged past Hull on the road. With Dejan Lovren still sidelined, Fonte, at 5.3 in FPL, may well be the Saints’ more expensive defender currently available but he’s more than justified his relatively expensive price tag – last night’s strike was his second in the last four Gameweeks. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have now registered three clean sheets in the last six fixtures since Artur Boruc returned from injury, compared to a single shut-out in seven with the Pole sidelined and, with a schedule that pits them against West Ham, Palace and Norwich in the next four, investment in Fonte, and cut-price budget team-mates such as Calum Chambers (3.9), looks a viable tactic.

Lallana’s Returns Continue to Tick Over
In a night when Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez drew blanks, the Saints skipper was in the points once again, providing the assist for Fonte’s winner at the KC. Lallana has now risen in price to 8.0 this week, with an ownership of 33% indicative of his season’s exploits – he’s delivered points in 13 of 26 matches, which is just one fewer than Yaya Toure’s 14 and one more than Eden Hazard’s 12, highlighting his ability to produce on a level consistent with premium-priced alternatives. It’s a goal or assist in eight of the last 10 Gameweeks now and, as his form goes from strength to strength, those upcoming fixtures offer further promise.

McShane Concern for Tigers
Handed a first-team return back in Gameweek 23 after James Chester picked up another hamstring injury, the Hull defender had looked a secure budget option at just 3.8 in FPL. McShane’s versatility saw him shifted from centre-half to right-back to cover for the stricken Liam Rosenior, who missed out with a hamstring injury, but his night lasted just 11 minutes against the Saints. After the match, Steve Bruce confirmed the Republic of Ireland player looks to have sustained ankle ligament damage, with a potential period on the sidelines forcing Ahmed Elmohamady to shift to right-back if Rosenior is also sidelined. As the injuries mount up in defence, Bruce may revert back to 3-5-2 from his recent 4-4-2 formation in order to cope.

If you link your team it will give an idea of when people think you need to use it.

If you're at the top just keep doing what you're doing.

Probably try and get United and City players before their DGW in 31 and then use the WC to 'clean up' in game week 32. Or do a similar strategy for when other DGWs occur for other teams (in accordance with the FA Cup).

wait till city double game week then go mental. aguero should be back as well. back city/chelsea/liverpool in the run in to end of season. also look at players pushing for a world cup spot as they have added incentive. lallana/ox/sterling

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

So drafting in James Collins for Chester at 19:07 last night proved to be one of my favourite all time transfers.

What have been your best transfers this season, especially ones where you got more than you expected?

I’m expecting a few Suarez in for Gameweek 6 to emerge. But it would also be good to get some tales of drafting in a cheap player who ended up being your star that week.

Also any tales of getting in a great pick near to deadline?

Did Ward to Collins on Monday, despaired because I forgot we'd see line-ups and he might not be starting. Worked out very well though.

My greatest ever transfer? I did Walcott to Cazorla just before Arsenal played Reading last year. Why? I don't know. Walcot scored around 7 and cazorla got a hat-trick. great night of FPL 😀

Apart from getting Suarez immediately after his ban, it has to be Lallana in gameweek 22 - double figures twice and an assist in last two weeks each. I always have perhaps unrealistic expectations about most of the players I've drafted in, so it's nice to see them answered once in a blue moon.

That said, Ki in gameweek 21 was an almighty surprise.

I don' think anyone can beat me on this!!!
I had Nolan in gw1 in which he scored..then i sold him next week using my wildcard...after that he lost his form.
now comes the part-2: I used my jan wildcard and brought back nolan again. i had a feeling he's due & A.caroll factor will be enough for him to score. Next 2 weeks Nolan gave me-16+16.

      Quite a tale tbh 🙂

It's not quite along the lines of this, but I took out RVP after Christmas and brought in Benteke. Brought in a hell of a lot more points then Van Persie did, particularly when he went on that blank streak. Everyone's favourite captain was bagging them 4 points, whilst I was clawing my way up with other choices.

On another note, enough on the Collins thing! I finally got rid of him on my January wildcard and he vidicates this decision by going 36 points from 4...

I didn't grab Suarez in GW6, but I did bring him in GW7. I'm expecting a lot of others on here did as well, but luckily most people in my main league did not right away. Other than that, getting Coleman in GW2. Bought him for 5.0 and now he is 6.5, too bad I lose half if I sell him, which I might do at some point.

Fair comment Jonty , if I was being honest since I've played mine it's been all downhill , previous to that it was mostly green , the Walcott injury seem to derail me totally ,
But as always I'm fighting back , the ' band-aids ' are nearly off and I'm hoping to use the dgw/Wc etc to my advantage.

Not blown away. Kenwyn and Fabio are the high profile ones and the least impressive. Zaha is hit and miss, always looks as if he's trying to show off (which I can understand a little bit because of the season he's had/hasn't had). The young Norwegians look decent but more than that was needed.

        S'OK, found it 🙂

"During this afternoon a swathe of exceptionally strong winds is expected to affect western parts of Wales and then some northwestern parts of England this evening, particularly in coastal areas. Winds are expected to gust 80 mph widely and possibly reach 100 mph in the most exposed locations in west and northwest Wales.

Winds of this strength can cause widespread structural damage, bringing down trees and also leading to loss of power supplies. In addition, large waves are likely to affect some coasts. The public should take action to alter their travel arrangements during this spell of storm force winds."

Couple questions for you guys if you please!

    1) Baines, keep? Value worries me but fixtures after Chelsea are good.
    2) Barkley, Clyne, Chester and Pozuelo? Have 2 free transfers and no idea what to do.

    This is the team:

    Marshall (Mannone)
    Baines Koscielny Ward (chester)(Clyne)
    Mata Hazard Yaya Barkley (pozuelo)
    RVP Suarez Dzeko

0.0 in the bank. Any thoughts would be well received!! Unless mean 🙁

I like Baines but I do think you need shot of the dead wood.

Players id been looking at considering would be -

      Chambers
      Baker
      Vlaar
      Puncheon
      Snodgrass

Id also sell Yaya after next GW. Could have two blanks.

Yeah I will probably switch him out for an extra Chelsea mid perhaps, undecided thus far.

Thanks for the list!! Chambers would be super sideways but those 3 bonus points are very alluring!

I'd personally keep van Persie and get rid of Mata. There's absolute no need to double up on United at the moment. So it's really up to you, though, Fratboy.

Would rather Mata to RVP because he is ineligible to play in UCL games so should not miss a minute of PL games and the funds saved there will allow you to get Aguero into your strike force.

Ditching Baines (for, say, Cahill) would allow you to upgrade one of your mids, and this should definitely be worth it, mate, considering Lallana's form and the rise of the likes of Adam and Nolan. With Mirallas taking some set-pieces now for the Toffees, Baines' attacking threat somehow dropped considerably recently.

Same dilemma as I have Adrian, Collins and Lallana. Thinking of playing all of them and just see what happens, since there's no way I'd bench the latter for Noone. Play all of them and hope for a classic 0-0! 😀
