Kieran Gibbs is out for Arsenal, though Olivier Giroud is likely to return to the XI. Southampton could be boosted by the potential return of Dejan Lovren against West Ham. Robbie Brady is ruled out again for Hull. Cardiff are set to be without Mark Hudson for the rest of the season, whilst Oussama Assaidi faces weeks on the sidelines for Stoke:

Arsene Wenger has ruled Kieran Gibbs out of Arsenal’s home encounter with Sunderland. The left-back has failed to recover from the hamstring problem that forced him off against Bayern Munich in midweek, though the Gunners boss has hinted at a first-team return for Olivier Giroud as part of his “refreshment plan for the weekend”.

Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that Dejan Lovren and Gaston Ramirez may return to Southampton’s squad for the weekend visit to Upton Park after stepping up their recoveries from ankle injuries. The Saints boss has ruled out defender Jos Hooiveld with an eye problem against the Hammers.

Gus Poyet has hinted he may leave Lee Cattermole out for Sunderland’s trip to Arsenal, with one eye on the upcoming Capital One Cup Final. Steven Fletcher is back in training for the Black Cats but is still lacking in match fitness – Poyet has yet to decide whether the Scot will be included for the Emirates clash.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has revealed that winger Oussama Assaidi will be out of action for “at least a number of weeks” after damaging knee ligaments during the Potters’ training camp in midweek. There is positive news on defender Robert Huth, with Hughes confirming that the German has returned to training as he steps up his comeback after recent knee problems. Elsewhere, Andy Wilkinson and Matty Etherington are back in contention for the trip to the Etihad after showing no ill-effects to the injuries that had sidelined them up till now.

Pepe Mel has ruled Claudio Yacob out for the weekend through injury, and the midfielder joins striker Nicolas Anelka on the sidelines for the visit of Fulham. West Brom will be boosted by the return of a trio of players though, with Jonas Olsson, Stephane Sessegnon and Billy Jones all in contention to feature at the weekend after overcoming their respective injuries.

Hull defender Liam Rosenior could return for the trip to Cardiff after missing the last game with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, the club will assess both James Chester and Sone Aluko after their lengthy absences, whilst Steve Bruce is set to be without the services of Robbie Brady as he struggles with an ongoing groin problem.

Cardiff’s injury troubles have grown with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming that club captain Mark Hudson is expected to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Gameweek 29 options: the most uninspiring bunch ever?

Looking ahead to Gameweek 29 we are all looking at definite starters that week for our next transfers.

But take a look at the fixtures and the teams we are left with that week. It really is such an uninspiring lot I’m quite prepared to go into the week with 9-10 players rather than ruin my team with players I’m going to want to remove just to field 11.

So to recap here’s Gameweek 29’s definite fixtures…

WBA v Man Utd – Ok Mata is good here. But I already own him. RVP is another good option, especially with a double on the horizon. But that 13.6m price tag is still way too high, when Adebayor available for 8m and he plays this week – more on him later though.

Cardiff v Fulham – two teams that can’t keep clean sheets. But are also suspect in attack. Neither convince me. I have Noone already but am fully expecting 2-3pts. None of the others appeal.

Palace v Southampton – Lallana looks like a solid gold pick here as he is arguably a season keeper. Get him. I already have him, so that’s another transfer option gone for me. Lambert or JRod are good as well…but which non playing striker would you ditch for either just because they are playing in gwk 29? I for one will not be parting with Sturridge or Suarez because they miss one little gameweek.

Norwich v Stoke – There are options here – especially Adam and Snodgrass. But both are those kind of mid price occasionally explosive players players that you will soon regret owning. Crouch is another option, but once again, which of your current strikers would you sacrifice for him?

Chelsea v Tottenham – Chelsea have a mean defence. Get one of their defenders for this, as arguably you will want one for the duration if they can carry on their defensive form. In attack Hazard is the key option – but you all own him anyway though. Adebayor is another popular choice – but what a terrible fixture to get him in for. If you have Adebayor keep him though, you never know. I’d prefer to have Adebayor in my side over the coming weeks than say Peter Crouch or Fulham’s striker who has yet to play.

In conclusion – I think it would be more profitable to focus on impending doubles – especially ManC players in gwk 31 – rather than hack apart your team for the sake one gameweek. If you have Hazard/Mata or RVP this week captain them. If you have 9 to 10 players just ride the storm and look forward to gameweek 31 when you will have a serious advantage.

He looks ok for that week. For me though he's not my kind of player. I want reliable regular assisters and scorers. I'm not sure he is it. I prefer Ince as a punt in that price bracket. For me as well I have Noone - cheaper and Solskjaer likes him - although he is carrying an ongoing slight injury.

Noone seems to me like just a dirt cheap 2-pointer..

I went for Zaha over Ince as Zaha also has FUL at home in two weeks which could be a nice little differential, whereas Ince is even less proven and has tougher fixtures. It was a close call between the two though.

I can understand why you wouldn't want Zaha, I just think that there's a case for him over the likes of Adam etc

I'm just not sure about him. I wonder if he's one of those fast chaps that really doesn't do much else other than look fast. Plus I have Noone - so I don't really have to think about him 😉

Fair enough, I suspect he'll chip in with the odd assist but from what I've seen his goal threat is fairly low. Seems surprisingly prone to a yellow/red card too.

Brilliant, Jonty. Since the average will be low on this GW anyway, the key will be not taking any hits. There aren't many enticing options -- even van Persie is debatable. Until what extent is is wise to sell either of Suarez/Sturridge just to accommodate the Dutchman for a single game? Let's not forget his 'double' includes Man City, which could see flopping big time. As for the others, nothing else to add. Of course getting the likes of Adam/Snod could work, yes, but the odds are really low and, in such a peculiar GW, the safest (and wisest) bet is not to exaggerate and play it safe.

Getting three MCI players in gwk 31 keeps me awake far more than whether I get Snodgrass in for Mirallas or some other such move.

Absolutely. And making pointless (or regrettable) cheap signings could as well undermine any chances of getting in Aguero for GW31 onwards. As for offloading Mirallas for one game only -- and adding to your argument --, Everton have a mouth-watering fixture against Cardiff just after GW29. At home. Will also be looking at doing Azpi/Cahill to Baines in the near future, for obvious reasons.

I wouldn't be surprised if City kept a clean-sheet, especially with United's form. Provided this happen, van Persie wouldn't score more than a 2-pointer, which is just not good enough for someone priced at £13+.

Won't need any hits, will field 11 with SaS and Mert on the bench. I just want to play 11 and get GW 29 long gone, 2-3 pts form Snoddy/Noone etc is all I ask for as long as I can play a full team.

          I agree Jonty

I just swapped out Gnabry for Ince, but that was on the cards anyway, now with a nice bonus that he'll play in GW29 and will have a double later on.

Other than that, I don't want to ditch two of Suarez, Sturridge, Yaya, Silva or Coleman, all of whom I'll want for their DGWs.

So, I'll field 9 for GW29, should be OK me thinks given the upside later on.

Ince is very much on my watchlist. He plays very high up and Chamakh holds the ball up well for his runs into the box. Still unproven, but he looks full of promise to me.

Great Hottopic title and well surmised Jonty, it's so true when many of us had 2FT this week and are scratching our heads as to who to get in!

I could field 11 without hits in GW29 but I'm thinking I'll just have ten and a better team for fixtures immediately after the blank.

I'm looking at 10 at the moment and happy with that. I'm ok swapping bench players that will play that week, but I'm not ditching the likes of Sturridge or Mertesacker just because they miss a game.

Absolutely, I think a few even on here are too excited for the blanks and will have to take hits to undo nolan and snodgrass transfers.
Interesting you're keeping Mertesacker though, I'm getting rid of both Koscielny and Szezcny next week (with 2ft) because it looks like doom and gloom for Arsenal's backline at the moment.

A nice recap Jonty, personally I think Palace are a bit underrated here. I know some here will have had a couple of cheapies from the word go re 2 points off the bench, but I for one think there are better punts in this team (nailed on-ness) than the more pricey ones say at Norwich / WBA / Spurs

I've gone for Ince - on loan - seeking a good transfer in summer and with England options wide open you never know - especially if Murray comes back and gets the goal scoring touch - you know who will be assisting!

Why not sell Suarez for RVP in GW29 and buy him back for GW32 for RVP?surely from GW29-GW31 RVP>Suarez.RVP has 4 games(1 game as captain for sure) and suarez 2 games including one against united away and you wont be captaining him in the other game.you have sturridge as damage limitation just in case suarez goes crazy in those 2 weeks.

Sell the best player in FPL who I got in gwk 7 for a rock bottom price for a striker that costs £13.6m in a team with patchy form and one of their doubles is against MCI...hmmm, not sure about that.

good point but your view could change in the next few weeks. if RVP scores few goals against westbrom and Crystal palace and suarez has 2 more average games FPL wise ,that move could become popular.

Sturridge for "Suarez damage limititation" doesn't work if most of the best fpl players have both still. The value lost is just too high a risk, you'll be sacrificing elsewhere in the team if you want him back. It's surely a long term move if you do it.

well at this stage of the season id be more worried about points than value.if you have a high TV I think you can afford to lose a few to take some chances to climb up your ML.i wont be doing it if I have a low TV. just in case if your move back fires all you gta do is just do RVP to Suarez and its done. i still think from GW29-GW31 suarez cant really outscore RVP by much even if that gamble backfires.2 games versus 4 games.

Yep, you might well be right there, the only thing is after those four games is a massive DGW and Suarez will be one of the most desirable players. If like you say though his form is dipping, now would be the time to move on..

i agree, i am keeping my SAS, i am toying with which striker to sign to play up front that week on their own, i am thinking RVP in, just for one week, captain him, then sell to Aguero straight after. Id rather have aguero for the double, than RVP.

at the moment i will plan to play
          boruc
          olsen azpi Burner
          lallana sidwell hazard paulinho mata

I'm actually using gw29 as an excuse to shift some of my arsenal players and prepare to get Aguero in

Over the next few weeks eriksen mertesacker and Cazorla will all be gone for nice turner and lallana and adebayor will be drafted in for dzeko, who will then be swapped for Aguero

This is of course barring any injuries that will completely ruin my plans!

Good points, will probably only ditch Mert for a second Chelsea defender or Fonte because of the blank and terrible fixtures afterwards, but will keep Yaya, Coleman, and SAS and just field 10 players that week.

I'm more worried about GW28 where the average will be higher and I'll have Mata and Yaya (20 million in value) on the bench.

If you're going for Puncheon then get Zaha over Ince to spread it over two teams, instead of being screwed if Palace have a bad game? Just a thought

palace double will involce playing everton away as their 2nd game, is that 2 pointer really worth having two midefielders for the worse/second worse scoring team in the league, sat rotting in your team.

i think its a bad move. you will then have to waste a transfer selling them, which could be used better elsewhere, and may even cost you a -4

Midfielder at 5.4 or below without a blank.
So far looked at Dembele (may be pushed further forward), Noble (penalties and set-pieces) and Huddlestone (set pieces).

Demel vs Chambers is literally 50/50. You have boruc so do you want to lump everything into Saints or do you want to consolidate and hope for a 0-0?

I personally fancy Saints and am benching Demel.

Swap Giroud for Adebayor this week or save the transfer and do it closer to GW 29 instead? team is

        Boruc (Davis)
        Ivanovic Koscielny Olsson (Ward Bardsley)
        Silva Hazard Mata Lallana (Mirallas)
        Suarez Sturridge Giroud
        0.0 in the bank
        1 FT

if i save i'll prob do Silva + Bardsley to Ince + Terry next week and then swap Giroud the week after that.. gives me a strong starting 11 and subs for 28

I don't now what to do this week. So I'm going to ask for an RMT:

            Marshall
            Burner, Coleman, Fonte
            Eriksen, Mirallas, Mata, Hazard
            Sturridge, Suarez(c), Giroud

            Mannone, Olsson, Ward, Colback

            1FT 4.2M (for aguero)

            1) Mirallas -> Lallana. On paper, a good option, but my mini league leader has lallana and I have 50 pts to catch up

            2) Giroud -> Lambert/Jrod, Giroud's get's replaced with aguero in GW30, but has to go to get through GW29. But, hoping for a good showing tomorrow as he's sown his oats and had a rest

            3) Do nowt and sit it out

I'd save...next week look to address Colback and another for two definite gwk 29 players. If I were you I'd plan ahead and ensure that you can have RVP in for Giroud ready for gwk 29 captaincy and gwk 31 doubles. Mirallas arguably could be sacrificed.

Hi guys, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Am in the top 2k which is my best ever but I really don't know what to do going forward. Team below:

            Marshall
            Mert. Vlaar. Ivan.
            Eriksen. Mata. AJ. Haz.
            RVP. Suarez. Bony.

            Mannone. Punch. Ward. Evans.

0.6 ITB 2frees and prepared to take a hit if required.
Should I move bony AJ or eriksen first?

            Thanks for the assistance.

Johnson has two blanks, so I'd be looking at doing AJ to Lallana and Bony to Adebayor.

            Who to bench?

            Azpil/Kos/Flan/Kolorov/Chambers

            Oscar/Hazard/YaYa/Mata/Nolan

            Dzeko/Suarez/Sturridge

From the front 8 it's tough, I guess it has to be Nolan but uneasy about that.

If you think Kolarov will start then bench Chambers and Flan, again begrudgingly.

I remember reading it was possible that one or two of the fixtures might still be rescheduled for later that week but it depended on sorting out the broadcasting issues. Check the article on here, wasn't too long ago

Yeah, I do find it's good to take a break from the game during midweek before the deadline and not come on every day. Otherwise you get burnout. I remember during preseason some people were on every day and burnt themselves out completely before the season started!

Totally agree. And giving yourself a break also prevents you from knee-jerking and/or buying a player who gets injured on the same week, especially when they have Cup games.

... and Coleman still has to convince me he will hit the same form he was on before his injury. Safest option is Baines, though. Everton have amazing fixtures after the Chelsea game and I love the fact he's on the spot-kick duties.

Rate my team for this week? I haven't done a RMT in a while, just wanted to know your thoughts. 🙂

            Adrian (SOU)

Sagna (SUN) Azpilicueta (EVE) Flanagan (SWA)

Lallana (whm) Hazard (EVE) Yaya (STK) Eriksen (nor)

Sturridge (SWA) (v) Adebayor (nor) Suarez (SWA) (c)

Bench: Mannone (ars) Bacuna (new) Chambers (whm) Ward (MUN)

Am I right for playing Eriksen over Bacuna, because even if Eriksen doesn't start and comes off the bench, Eriksen will probably get the same amount of points as Bacuna anyway, because Bacuna will probably get 1 or 2 points, but if Eriksen does start, he's a lot more explosive than Bacuna.

It always happens, a player you really have a good feeling about but can't get - this time it's Oxlade-Chamberlain who I think is going to be Arsenal's main threat with Walcott out. Fixtures have sucked before this week, now he has two decent fixtures followed by a blank and a horrible bunch. When do Arsenal's fixtures stop being a horror movie?

Yeah with the lame options right now almost tempted to take the two week punt then carry him if he goes well. Arsenal could even have a better chance of scoring against the tougher teams if they hit them on the counter - he got through one on one against Bayern.

Ole: "Gary Medel will be out tomorrow. He came back from his trip to Seville and said he was ready but unfortuntely he won't be able to play.

Peter Whittingham has trained well this week so we will have a look at him tomorrow.

Mark Hudson is injured and out for the rest of the season, so we need Juan Cala, Steven Caulker and Ben Turner competing hard for the centre back positions Juan has played in La Liga this season but he needs game time in the Premier League. He has looked good in training and he had to go back to Seville this week but has come back ready for the rest of the season.
            (...)
This has been best training week we’ve had. Weather wise and numbers wise it has been excellent".
