Daniel Sturridge and Wilfried Bony both bag a brace as Liverpool squeeze past Swansea in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield. Loic Remy returns from suspension to fire Newcastle’s winner against Villa, whilst Robert Snodgrass propels himself onto Fantasy radars by helping Norwich get the better of Spurs:

Sturridge Steals Limelight from Suarez
Boasting a goal or more in every Premier League game since his return to Liverpool’s starting XI, with 31 points in his last two and only three blanks this entire season – Daniel Sturridge is on fire. A 16-point haul against Swansea on Sunday brought his average to almost 11 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points per game over the last seven Gameweeks, eclipsing Luis Suarez’s returns by some 30 points over the same period. Perhaps he still has some way to go to reach the lofty heights of his ‘SAS’ counterpart’s early season form, but with the Uruguayan failing to breach the five-point barrier in his last four Gameweeks, Sturridge is making his own case for ‘essential’ status and the captaincy armband, while Suarez’s titanic ownership is beginning to slip.

Charitable Liverpool Defence Under Fire
With another three goals shipped at home to strugglers Swansea following the two conceded in their previous outing at Fulham, Liverpool’s defence is looking a far cry from the one which saw them register three consecutive 1-0 wins at the start of the season. Given the Reds’ upcoming blank in Gameweek 29, investment in their rearguard was always looking unlikely. Perhaps the tactic is to invest in opposing sides’ attackers; Southampton and United welcome the Merseyside outfit in Gameweeks 28 and 30 respectively and Liverpool’s defensive frailties will certainly stir up some optimism for owners of the likes of Rickie Lambert and Robin Van Persie with those fixtures in mind.

Bony Bags a Brace on the Road
In scoring a brace against Liverpool, Wilfried Bony registered his first league goals for Swansea outside of Wales since joining from Dutch side Vitesse. With three strikes in his last three games for the Swans, and some long-awaited away goals to his name, confidence will be high ahead of an appealing set of home fixtures which see the Welsh side welcome Crystal Palace, West Brom and Norwich to the Liberty Stadium in their next three home ties. The Ivorian striker seems to flourish with home support, but with Sturridge and Suarez accounting for two of most sides’ desired three forwards, competition is exceptionally high for strikers looking to make that third spot in our attack.

Lively Remy Returns as a Differential
Newcastle went into their mid-table clash with Aston Villa in dreadful form, having blanked in all but one of their league games in 2014. The return of another differential striker, Loic Remy, would be central to any turnabout in attacking form and the Frenchman didn’t disappoint when he coolly despatched the Magpies’ injury time winner. With his seven efforts at goal bettered only by Nikica Jelavic of all strikers for the Gameweek, and some promising fixtures surrounding Newcastle’s Gameweek 29 blank (hul, (blank), ful, CPL, sot), Fantasy managers may see the 8.0-priced Remy as an emerging differential ahead of the season’s run-in.

Snodgrass On the Radar
With a turbulent set of Gameweeks quickly approaching, Fantasy managers will have been delighted to see Robert Snodgrass’s return to FPL form. His match winner and maximum bonus points against Spurs took the Scot’s average to almost six points per Gameweek over his last five appearances, including two goals and an assist, while he placed third in our ICT rankings behind Santi Cazorla and Eden Hazard over the past 6 Gameweeks. The winger, now available at just 5.9 in FPL, faces a trip to Villa Park in Gameweek 28 followed by a home tie against Stoke, offering Fantasy managers an in-form, budget-friendly option as they look for players to fill out their fixture-starved squads.

Norwich Defence Primed for Investment
Chris Hughton’s side maintained their 100% home clean-sheet record for 2014 with a 1-0 victory over Tottenham at Carrow Road on Sunday – a fact made all the more impressive given that Spurs had scored in each of their last 10 consecutive Premier League fixtures. The Canaries have an enviable run of fixtures which place them top of our Season Ticker over the next six Gameweeks (avl, STO, sot, SUN, swa, WBA) and with several options below 4.7 in FPL, including 4.3-priced Martin Olsson, Norwich present an excellent, budget friendly solution for our defences through the blanks and beyond.

Spurs’ Midfield Minefield Faltering
Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood again chose to keep Christian Eriksen on the bench for the full 90 minutes, despite losing Etienne Capoue to an early injury and withdrawing Paulinho just after the hour mark against Norwich. Be it rest, risk or rotation, Nabil Bentaleb is now the only Tottenham midfielder to have played 90 minutes with any real regularity over the past few Gameweeks and with tough fixtures following their home match against Cardiff in Gameweek 28 (che, ARS, SOT, liv), Sherwood’s behaviour looks set to be mirrored by Fantasy managers as the Spurs midfield makes way for more stable investments.

It's tempting. I'm looking at Ince if his stats can stand up, he'd give me a chance to do Mutch->Yaya for GW30.

Norwich just look a terrible team going forward, even against a lethargic spurs side all but Snodgrass looked woeful in the final third.

I was a bit skeptical about him as well, but provided West Ham have a blank on GW29 as well, then I will just have to bring in Snod. Nolan is still my runaway midfield option for the GW, though.

Apologies if this has been highlighted before, but this was the response I received from FPL about the Terry goal.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi there,

We're emailing in response to your query about the awarding of points in GW27. Please find the answer to your question in the list below:

    1. OPTA, who provide us with our stats, have decided that in Chelsea's game against Everton, John Terry did get a slight touch on the ball, and so technically speaking he did score the goal. Unfortunately we can't go back and change this at this stage, and so it will remain as John Terry's goal on the Fantasy game. We appreciate that the 'goal' may be reviewed by the dubious goals panel, but we are never able to change any stats on the game after an hour has passed following the final whistle in any game.

    2. In the Arsenal game, OPTA decided that the ball was 'significantly deflected' into the path of Giroud for Arsenal's first goal, off a Sunderland player, and so Wilshere hasn't been awarded an assist. Again, this won't be changed.

    3. In the same fixture (Arsenal v Sunderland), Koscielny was correctly awarded clean sheet points in the game in question, as he played over 60 mins, but was substituted before Arsenal conceded a goal. The rules state that a player can only be eligible for the clean sheet points if they play over 60 minutes.

    4. Luis Suarez was not awarded an assist for Liverpool's 4th goal vs Swansea on Sunday, as the ball was unquestionably 'significantly deflected' into Henderson's path by a Swansea defender, before his initial shot was saved and he scored from the rebound.

Please bare in mind that, as always, we're unable to change any of this information now, and we're sorry if you have been caused any inconvenience.

We hope this email has helped explain why OPTA came to these decisions.

    Regards, Fantasy Football Support

      5. Unfortunately we can't remove Yaya Toure's goals from earlier in the season, even though he was fortunate to have scored from penalties due to the designated spot-kick taker for Manchester City being off the pitch. Also, we don't accept that him scoring every free-kick he takes is "unfair"

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Rage quitting

For the first time in seven years of fantasy footballing I contemplated rage quitting a game at the weekend. After carefully substituting the likes of Sturridge, Snodgrass, Olsson and Suarez into my side for Sunday’s games in the Ultimate Fantasy Premier League game I was feeling pretty pleased with my excellent management as their goals, clean sheets and assists mounted up.

To my horror though on Sunday night it turned out I’d actually altered Gameweek 2’s team and not my Gameweek 1 team at all. So my score of 31 from Saturday remained. A design fault perhaps. A blunder, definitely, which left me staring down the mixed-metaphorical barrel of a 50 plus point bench and nothing I could do about it. How could I carry on in my mini leagues knowing that 50 pts that were rightfully mine never would be. That’s it I’m qutting UFPL, I huffily declared.

Luckily though my fellow scouts brought me to my senses. With mini leagues lost before they’d begun this Beta version is now a chance to bring out my inner maverick with goalkeeper captaincies and punts on Cardiff midfielders now firmly on the agenda. I also hope they make it clearer when this admittedly very good game is released as to what gameweek team managers are actually altering.

But enough of that. Have any of you also been tempted to rage quit a game, through a blunder, poor choices or simply by having a bad gameweek? If so what brought you back from the edge, or if you went through with it how did your take your rage out on your team?

Not used to the format. But so galling as I thought I'd forget or life would get in the way, but instead it really only took a couple of mins to alter...thing is perhaps should have looked closer for another minute. Still think it needs to be clearer, especially for those using a smart phone as I do mainly at the weekends.

Every early k.o Saturday captain fail makes we want to turn my back on the game! Then a 12 pointer from an unlikely source brings the score to average and I'll give the game another crack next gw!

I've had many of these kind of rages with UCL. Mostly all my fault, but it soon passes.

            1) Last year when the UCL site changed, I made exactly the same mistake. Made my subs for the following week.
            2) I was right up in the top 400 of UCL and somehow forgot making my choices for the Chelsea v Bayern final
            3) This season I missed the 2nd day deadline having just played my WC. 29 points were left on my bench.
            4) I've missed several deadlines for the Sky game.

Basically I'm not enough of an anorak to be good at UFPL for the same reasons.

I was a click away from doing this myself as the software takes you to G/W2 by default I believe.

You have to scroll back to bring up the G/W1 panel to make changes in the current G/W. I agree that before changes are accepted there should be a check box that you have to acknowledge before changes are made (out lining exactly what you are about to do).

            Unlucky by the way.

I nearly made the same mistake. It should always default to the current gameweek when you select Manage Team until it's finished. Definite error. This beta testing seems to only be looking at whether the system works as opposed to getting out user feedback. How they are going to learn from us is baffling.

gw28: Yaya, Eriksen => Lallana, Snodgrass
            gw29: Koshielny => Olsson
            gw30: Hazard, Adebayor => Mirallas, Aguero (-4)
            gw31: Lallana => Yaya

It depends on various things and propably won't go like this, but still...in general 🙂

            Assuming WH have a DGW31

            GW30 W/C

            Adrian/Mannone
            Coleman/Kompany/Ward/Bruce/Chambers
            Hazzy/Yaya/AJ/Nolan/Collback
            Suarez/Studge/Kun

Looks great, or am I missing a trick? 3 Sunderland for their 3 DGWs, 3 City for their 2 DGWs. Should stand me in good stead for the final push.

2 FT, thinking Gnabry to Snodgrass, Silva to Mirallas? Not fussed about his blank GW29, more interested in the fact he has 3 home games.

You might be a bit late on Mirallas. His best form was solidly linked to the fact he was playing the lone striker role after Lukaku picked up his injury. With Traore showing potential and Naismith on fire, the Belgium will be back to his deeper/wider roles, where he was quite ineffective during a good part of the season (even often making way for Deulofeu on the second-half). Personally I will be keeping him for this weekend, but might have to sell him on GW29.

Why on earth are people shipping out Suarez? Considering i bought him (and a lot of us) at 11m the first week he came back.. just seems insane to ditch a player of his quality, ability to score, assist goals and massive points haul potential. The initial 11m paid for him is more than enough reason to keep. If he hits form again none of you will be able to afford him..

since RVP has been back hes amassed 30 points

from the same gameweek suarez has amassed 32 points

..Even when hes not on goal scoring form suarez is still a points machine and an even bigger one when he is

Hi guys, I have 2 FT & 0.4 in bank. I can field a back 3 maybe 4 assuming Chester & Kos both start. So looking to keep Kolarov for now. Which leaves me with Silva Ki as my most pressing evictions. But the problem is the options are just terrible for the N2GWS. Please help im at a bit of a loss.

4 would be good but would have to take a hit.

Yeah I think 4 is probably the safest number. Yaya and Kun will be the essential ones I think. But will mean either sacrificing Suarez for Rooney or Hazard for Mata for me which doesn't sound ideal...

            Cahill Azpil Koscielny Demel Mariappa
            Hazard Yaya Mata Lallana Puncheon

Anybody know if King Nil Miss has been boasting or crying about his score this week?

Trying to figure out if I made it through to the last 16 in the Tea Cup...

              Best of luck 😀

Wasn't there some country that everyone joined to create their own mini-league of sorts as the country was so small that you could be in with a chance of winning it easy enough? Or am I totally making this up..

No, but his form has fluctuated a lot over the season, not helped by there being quite a lot of churn in and around his position. He also doesn't seem to perform away from home.

Decent option for the next few weeks and could potentially have a DGW with (SWA, CRY) which is as good as you could ask for, really.

Stubbornly avoiding a player because he has burned you before is the surest way to frustration in this game.

True, but what people usually forget, however, is that his best form came when he was playing the lone forward role just after Lukaku picked up his injury. With Traore proving himself and Naismith on fire, I doubt we will see him there again. With that said, he will be back to his deep/wide roles, and maybe even sharing his minutes with Deulofeu again, which does limit his attacking threat.

That is true. But about this time last season he went on a bit of a run and he wasn't playing lone forward so he's perfectly capable of scoring from the wing. He's hardly essential but with Everton's home fixtures I think he's a solid punt.

Everton's fixtures are really hard to ignore -- but is Mirallas really their best offensive option? That remains to be seen and I guess the West Ham game will clarify many things. I'll also be looking at adding Baines after their blank. Their performance against Chelsea was solid enough to convince me.

I think he's the best midfield option. If we had a fourth striker spot, I might opt for Lukaku instead but with all the good options around, I can't justify it.

It will be curious to see who plays the 'in the hole' against West Ham. Still, as you mentioned, there are teams scoring more often than Everton, meaning that keeping someone like Mirallas only for the sake of covering a team isn't wise -- especially if he's not in form anymore and will have a blank. Will keep him for this weekend's game, then I'll sell him for Snod/Nolan for GW29. Will keep an eye on him after the storm, but I find it hard that he will reproduce his early form (though his rcent set-piece duties look promising, I have to admit). If Everton re-find their solidness (especially at home, which I believe they will), then Baines/Coleman will be my Toffees cover.
