Hull see off Brighton in the cup to set up a double Gameweek 31 with West Ham. Sergio Aguero is set to return to full training for City today, Tim Sherwood talks up Roberto Soldado’s prospects, Robert Huth is hoping for a weekend return, whilst Matej Vydra is hoping to strike up a partnership with Victor Anichebe for the Baggies:

Tigers Advance as Double Gameweek 31 is confirmed

For last night’s FA Cup Fifth Round replay against Brighton, Steve Bruce made six changes to the side that hammered Cardiff at the weekend. The Hull boss moved to a 4-4-2, with James Chester partnering Curtis Davies at centre-half, whilst Sone Aluko and Yannick Sagbo led the line as Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic are both cup-tied. After the game, Bruce revealed Tom Huddlestone, Liam Rosenior and Alex Bruce were unused subs after all three picked up knocks against the Bluebirds but is hopeful the trio will be fit for the weekend. Davies and Robert Koren were the hosts’ scorers in a 2-1 win.

The Scout Says: Minutes after the final whistle, the Premier League confirmed Hull’s Gameweek 29 clash with West Ham is postponed due to the Tigers’ FA Cup clash with Sunderland – as a result, only five fixtures will now take place in Gameweek 29. The authorities also revealed the Hammers clash has been moved to Wednesday March 26 – or Gameweek 31 to you and me. This means both clubs (along with City and United) have a double that week; Hull are set to host West Brom, whilst Sam Allardyce’s side entertain United before the Tigers midweek trip to Upton Park.

Aguero Back in Full Training for City

The Argentine is set to return to full training for City today after being sidelined for the past month with a hamstring problem. Speaking to the press, Manuel Pellegrini seemed confident Aguero will be fit enough to play some part in the weekend cup final clash against Sunderland:

“Sergio can give us all a huge lift, not just for the Capital One Cup final but for the rest of the season because, for me, he is one of the top five players in the world. He has had two long injuries but when he’s fit, he is a player who can make the difference.”

The Scout Says: With Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo misfiring, Aguero’s return can’t come soon enough for City. Pellegrini’s side have scored just three goals in five games in all competitions since their talisman limped out of the 5-1 win over Spurs back in Gameweek 23, and with back-to-back league blanks on their agenda, the City front pair are currently being offloaded in their droves. Given that Pellegrini’s side won’t return to league action until March 15, we’re now afforded time to assess Aguero’s fitness before contemplating a transfer in. With 12 matches to schedule over the last nine Gameweeks, City look in line for three doubles and investment in their main assets will be vital for the run-in. The issue, though, is the South American’s propensity for picking up injuries – Aguero has played only two of the last 10 Gameweeks now and, although his input looks crucial to his side’s title bid, there’s a chance Pellegrini will be wary of over-utilising his only consistent forward for fear of another injury.

Sherwood Backs Soldado to Deliver

The Spurs boss remains convinced Roberto Soldado will find his feet in north London after turning in another set of disappointing displays over the last week:

“We’re waiting for him to take one and then hopefully the confidence will start flooding back. He’s getting the opportunities to score but he just needs to take one. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later that he puts one in the net. It happens, strikers have a lull at times and Robbie needs to get out of this one. It’s going to take probably one off his backside for it to happen. Unfortunately he’s had another couple of chances missed, but not only him there were a few other glaring misses I thought.”

The Scout Says: Culpable in front of goal so often this season, Soldado missed a sitter in Thursday’s Europa League game against Dnipro before twice spurning chances from close-range only minutes after climbing off the bench against Norwich. The 1-0 defeat at Carrow Road was the first time Spurs have failed to score in a league match since Sherwood took the helm but they were noticeably more dangerous upon the Spaniard’s introduction after a switch to 4-4-2. Few, if any, Fantasy managers will be bold enough to punt on Soldado ahead of a weekend home clash with Cardiff – indeed, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool in the following four Gameweeks, many may even be opting to part company with Emmanuel Adebayor once the blanks have been navigated.

Vydra Praises Anichebe Link-Up

The Baggies forward is hoping to stake a claim alongside Victor Anichebe up top after the pair combined for Saturday’s late equaliser against Fulham:

“If me and Victor play together that is better for me because he is strong and I am quick. It is good for me but it’s the coach’s call. For me it is always better if I play with a strong striker. Every player wants to play in the first XI but I’m pleased I went on and made a difference. We need to all pull together for the cause.”

The Scout Says: Both Vydra and Anichebe started on the bench against the Cottagers, with Pepe Mel opting for Saido Berahino and Thievy as his preferred frontmen. The Nigerian was only fit enough for a bench role but his assist for Vydra’s strike means he has now played a part in each of West Brom’s last four goals – whilst Anichebe certainly looks set to start next time around, Vydra may yet have to rely on further minutes off the bench to prove his worth. A blank this weekend, followed by a clash with United is enough to keep us away for now, but with clashes against Swansea, Hull, Cardiff and Norwich between Gameweek 30-33, the Midlands outfit – who also have a double Gameweek to factor in – may yet be the source of unlikely differentials.

Huth on Verge of Stoke Return

The centre-half is expected to take part in a behind-closed doors friendly against Burnley later today as he steps up his recovery from a knee injury

“I would like to be available on Saturday but ultimately that will be the manager’s choice. I’ve only trained five or six times, but I’m feeling good and ready to kick on. It would be better if this friendly was Saturday, but it will do nicely.

The Scout Says: Sidelined since November with the problem, Huth’s absence has allowed Marc Wilson to play in 14 of the last 16 games in all competitions at the heart of the Stoke back-four. Given that the Staffordshire outfit have now conceded in each of the previous 11 Gameweeks, though, a return for Huth would be a real boost for this weekend’s home clash against Arsenal. Indeed, following that one, Stoke’s schedule pits them against Norwich, West Ham, Villa, Hull, Newcastle and Cardiff in six of the subsequent seven to suggest a prosperous run-in for Hughes’ side.

Big shame about the Hull game. Current team (capitals have a game on gwk 29):

    McGregor - Mannone
    IVANOVIC - CAHILL - Kos - Vlaar - Coleman
    HAZARD - MATA - NOONE - Yaya - Nolan
    J.ROD Sturridge Suarez

    2FT

Considering offloading Yaya at 9.9 this week, then Kos/Keeper next week. Thoughts? How much will Yaya drop? I will lose .2/.3 on anybody in my front 2 lines, and I want to keep them for the long run, so Yaya seems the obvious choice with 2 blanks?

My main concern is dropping value, when I want SAS upfront and plenty of city cover for the end of the season

What did you buy yaya for? I would think he'll prob drop 0.2/0.3. I dropped Kos this week. He could easily get a CS at stoke but I needed funds to do Eriksen > Lallana. Don't worry too much about value, concentrate on getting most points each week. There'll also be a plan B you can fall back on if don't have funds for your first choice and sometimes that can work out better!

? For the points? I got him quite a few weeks back, and he'll come straight back after the 2 blanks. Still worth the transfers I think for the next 2.. Will probably do kos out next week, will help cheapen the defence a bit too...

Yaya to who? Thinking Lallana or Snodgrass, but leaning towards the latter...

I think Yaya will drop .2 by the weekend, at least another .1 after.

A lot of those who picked him up late are gonna drop him. 10 ish mil on the bench for 2 GWs is gonna be too much for many, especially those chasing in their mini leagues.

I'm so confused about what to do with Silva. Swapping for Bob Snod or Charlie Adam makes some sense but I feel like I'd rather hold onto him for the future. Spending a transfer to get him out and then a transfer to get him back in later seems inefficient and short-sighted.

But why do I feel like I want him after the relentless disappointment? DGW players are only really great if the player scores and he doesn't even look like he wants to. Will the return of Kun take him back to those heady days before christmas when he was matching Yaya for points?

Christ! Didn't realize that, a very surprising stat. He does seem like a 2nd assister kind of guy this year, regularly passes put to the overlapping full backs. He plays a lot better with Nasri in the side though so you could see an upturn.

I got the archetypal lesson in Kolarov ownership. Brought him in after he scored 9,12 to get his 0,1,1,0 before shipping him out just in time to miss his 11 🙂

I can't cope with him to be honest. I'd rather have Zaba, Demi or Kompany for more security through the DGWs.

Exactly. It boils down to whether I'll want him back after the blanks. If so, I'm not sure two weeks of Bob Snod's points is worth 2 FTs. But I'm starting to question his value at 9.3m, even with 3 DGWs

depending on number of players you have for gwk 29, I'd say you'd get 4 points back (at the very least 2), so you could see it as one transfer. Plus then you have the choice of who to bring in (I'd rate yaya significantly higher)

I'd probably sell, but then I have many other players I would lose more value on (selling yaya in my case).

If I'm truly honest with myself, there's probably an aspect of pig-headed pride after I steadfastly maintained that he would outscore Yaya. Any other player with those returns for that price would have been out on his ear a long time ago.

G'day lads! Yaya out for... Ince? Brought in Snoddy last week so need a mid that has games in both 28 & 29. Or what's your thoughts of a two week punt for Willian or Oscar? Money no problem, 13.2 ITB when Yaya is out.

Ah so YOU are Erik. Great season mate.

I'd go Ince due to the potential DGW in the future. Willian's a great short term option if you plan to use your WC early. (btw which week are you shooting for?)

Thanks ENR, and the same to you man!!

You're right about Ince, Willian is only a short term plan - probably a waste. Tbh I'm not sure yet, I'll try to hold it for as long as possible, that's what I've learned from previous seasons. Do you still have your WC?

          Indeed, got mine too.

Normally I've been a fan of retaining it for DGW36/37 but in a complete dilemma this time around as there are multiple DGWs this time around. A big factor for me is when the Liv DGW is going to be.

Very nice, especially with that rank!

Same here, I've had success using it in the last few GW's earlier, but I'm not sure yet when I'll use it. With 2 FT's this week, and 11 players for 28/29 I haven't planned it yet. The Liv DGW will be great, it's now the season really starts 😎

Daft to get rid of Mata with a game in 29 and a DGW coming up? To get Aguero, a sacrifice must be made, and he looks the one most likely to get the chop.

Depends if you've got defensive cover. Zabaleta isn't usually rested, I think the matches he has missed this season have been through injury. I'm keeping Yaya Touré despite two blank gameweeks... I guess we'll find out if it's a good idea or not later! City should have two or three double gameweeks later on though.

I have 3 free transfers I can use before the GW29 deadline, which will allow me to field 11 if I wish.

I have my WC still so I'm not worried about selling players with a double. I'll probably hold SAS and Mirallas. Here's my shortlist:

Lallana (field 10 as it means using a FT to sell Davis as I have Boruc and Jrod)
    Mata
    Olssen
    Caulker
    Snoddy
    Adam

    Meh!

I also prefer Lallana over Snoddy/Adam, however I'm not wasting a transfer on Davis, so I'd go for Snoddy or Mata. Norwich have some very nice fixtures all the way up to GW 34, so Olsson is a nice buy.

Far far far too many (22 of them, 88 points). My rank started improving dramatically when I knocked them on the head a few weeks ago.

Interesting. Different ways of playing the game. I'm more cautious, and tend to trust my judgement, rarely making rash decisions, and tend to take the safe approach i.e. Yaya over Silva etc.

    Adrián
    Ward Ivanovic Koscielny
    Snodgrass Nolan Lallana Hazard
    Rodriguez Suárez Sturridge(c)

    Mannone Yaya Turner Gabbidon

Any advice with the following (my current plan) much appreciated:
    GW29: Koscielny + Suarez -> RVP(c) + Fonte/Vidic and field 9 players (assuming Burner plays)
    GW30: no transfers needed
GW31: Nolan/Snodgrass + Gabbidon -> Zabaleta + Januzaj for the DGW giving me DGW cover of Zab, Yaya, RVP, Januzaj (+ maybe Vidic).

Haha, well this is more of a strategy question, which I'm distinctly average at 🙂

I think you should have a Chelsea defender in addition to Zaba, if you can manage it. Looking at your team, I would drop Sagna for Azpil. Arsenal's fixtures after this week are absolutely horrendous.

Even better: play Sagna, Shaw and Olsson this week and downgrade Silva > Snodgrass so you can do Sagna > Ivan or Terry next week. You could even do both for a hit since it would be just -2 and Snod could pay that back immediately with just an assist.

I mean do Silva > Snodgrass & Sagna > Terry for a hit this week.

I'm not saying you should do it, just pointing out that the hit is only -2 because you're struggling to put out 11 this week with Mata & RVP having the blank.

Depends on whether you're happy having three Liverpool players, presuming you already own Sturridge and Suarez.

Gerrard has been delivering plenty of points lately even from his deeper position. I have Mata and I do think that he will go on a run soon and get some goals. But if I had neither and could choose one right now, current form Stevie G seems to be a stronger option.

If Liv, Eve and Ars all have a DGW31, I think it makes sense to hold on the WC isn't it?

There'll be about 10 DGW teams to choose from and likely to be able to fit in a template DGW XI simply with a hit or two.

Yep save it for 34 or 37 now I'd say.

Is Yoshida nailed on? 4.0 is amazingly cheap, I can afford Shaw to be fair.
