Due to domestic cup duties over the next two weekends, just 10 of the Premier League’s 20 teams have a fixture in both Gameweek 28 and 29. With City and Sunderland out of league action until mid-March, owners of Yaya Toure, David Silva and Adam Johnson are pondering their midfield options and mulling over some short-term transfers in order to plug the gaps.

In our second members article of the week, we dig deep into the data of those 10 teams and analyse the midfielders who have offered the greatest goal threat over the last six Gameweeks.

Looking at options who have registered eight or more efforts on goal over the featured period, Chelsea supply us with five players, Norwich chip in with four, whilst Southampton and Palace both have a couple of midfielders in the assessment:

    Mannone Adrian
    Ivan Azpil Baines Coleman Kolorav
    Silva Hazard Lallana Mirallas Noone
    Suarez Sturridge Adebayor

2 FT and .2 ITB. I'm thinking Adrian -> Speroni.

Why is everyone transferring out Yaya/Silva? I assume the plan is to transfer back in in 2 weeks. If you're forced to play bench fodder this week if you don't I can understand it, but it seems excessive to me to use two transfers to get a single mid-price midfielder playing for one week.

Depends who you are getting I think. For me as a Silva owner I'm not particularly impressed by his output. My current side lacks Lallana and he is consistently outperforming him at the moment. The double blanks and Lallana having two games gives me the excuse to make the trade. The cash saved will also help contribute to the Aguero fund.

Mata or Silva has to go this week. whom?
If I ditch Silva now, I still get him/Yaya back for DGW 31
If I ditch Mata, I will have both Yaya & Silva for DGW 31 (+ Aguero).

    What do you think?

      it means:

      Mata + Gw 39 + 1 Dgw 31 (WHU, City), nailed on

      or

Silva + blank gw 29, + 3 dgws (but could be rotated)

Seems I missed all the Man U talk so I'll just jot down some thoughts as see what comes of it.

Been a Man U fan since 1992(honest) and I've never been totally devoid of hope in the team until now. Now I know we as Man U fans have been spoilt for years but that doesn't mean we should just accept when things turn against us. Anyone with 2 eyes(even 1 eye half open) can see we are playing garbage football. Its upto the players on the pitch to produce but its the work off the field that lays the groundwork for the game day performances.

Fergi said we should believe in the new manager but we need something to back up the faith. Some sign that what he's doing will work in the long run. Something that resembles a plan. Well I've yet to see one. People who preach continuity just for the sake of it are setting themselves for a world of pain. Coninuuity and stability only truely work if the right guy in at the helm IN THE FIRST PLACE. I invite you to imagine where Liverpool would be had the decided to just believe in Roy or Kenny. Seriously think of how bad they would be right now. They knew it wasn't working and decided to make a change.

Our you're MF sucks you say? Fergi left us in a bad spot you say? LOL GTFO. We won the league by 11 points and would have been more if anyone actually care about the last few games. This is a team made up of winners to the core and just a few months later we look like a bunch of bums. Whats changed? Well for one the way we play has. If you can find the heat maps on our general play from last season to this one its like night and day. Moyes is in love with super wing play and its hurting us.

Didn't have the whole summer to scout picks you say? Fair enough he had had slightly less time than optimal but I'll point to some of his crimes during the summer:

    1) knew he wanted Fellaini but instead of paying the 23.5 mil for his BOC he hoped he could lowball Everton on deadlind day LOL and ended up paying 27.5 mil

    2) Thiago Alcantara was available for around 18 mil. Now this is what the term 'No lose situation' was invented for. There was NO way this could go wrong as if he didn't work out we would 100% recoup the cost as he was coming so cheap. Moyes 'Nah I'm not interested' and the player confirmed this so I believe he really didn't even make an attempt to get him. Some will say he lied but then why admit he was going after Fab????

    3) Going after players who fought to go back to spain just a few years ago when it was obv to anyone with a brain they would never leave RM or Barca. Fab and Ronaldo were just shocking moves and shows he's easilly duped.

Theres just so much wrong with his reign and I fear it'll only get worse. Kagawa and Mata out on the wings etc. God this guy needs to go and and mean ASAP. Come AT ME.

Yeah, I believe managers should get time and all at but at the end of the day - if I were to give you a verdict right now as to whether I think Moyes could be the man for that job I'd say no.
He's never had to sign top players, he's never had to utilize top players, he's never had to train top players. He's only ever had low standards to meet - it was okay for him to play for draws the odd time and hopefully scrape the win. That's not okay at Manchester United.
I said he wasn't the man at the beginning, as I'm sure many did.
I was welcome for him to prove me completely wrong and I'd have admitted it gracefully, but he really is not the man to manage such a big club.
United can't afford 3/4 bad years. Liverpool had 20 and it's a difficult place to come back from.
Really believe United need to take a big chance on a ''revolutionary'' manager like Klopp or somebody who can really inspire confidence in the players and get a real buzz going around the club.

Agreed. For a team of champions i've never seen so many listless performances where there wasn't any structure or game plan. Moyes has been very unlucky with injuries all season but that doesn't change the fact that he's got the tactics wrong, most of the time they don't even look like there are any tactics. Heard the Alcantara story before, apparently he ooed and aahed too long meanwhile Guardiola came in with a bid and off he went. Also heard United were given the option of signing Modric before Ozil departed, but Moyes decided that Modric goes missing too often in big games - he's been Madrid best player this season after Ronaldo and United ended up signing Fellaini. Lol.

If I was a United fan i'd be praying they sack him before opening up that summer £150m spending kitty. Otherwise it looks like United could easily go down the same road Liverpool went with Graeme Souness.

I hadn't heard the Modric one and hope to god its not true. Giving him 150m is like putting makeup on a pig. I can only hope at this point. Injuries haven't helped but thats no excuse for playing they way they have been all season. I don't really think he knows how he wants us to play other than to get stuck in....

i think you have to wake up and smell the coffee... the fergie glory days are just that. some amazing unprecedented success...

fergie bought sums bums too in his time. and fellaini has been injured most of the year...

i dont think you understand how hard it must be for moyes... to try and fill those massive shoes. with fergie still around, going to games etc... the fergie stand...

he did a great job with everton and for many years had them over performing. i think you just have to get used to the fact that winning the league every other year is just not feasible. ask a liverpool fan perhaps.

Big shoes to fill sure. Not going to win the league every season, of course. The premier league champions struggling to create any openings against Palace until a penalty, then getting outclassed by Olympiakos is an entirely other thing though, and it's been happening all season. 11 points off champions league qualification.

Nobody expected him to be SAF II but they would have at least expected a strategy and a champions league place, not boring pedestrian ineffective football and a europa league spot (if they're lucky)

I could settle for the team losing if I could see Moyes trying to get the team playing his way but there doesn't appear to be any structure or tactics above pumping the ball in the box.

For Moyes and United read Hodgson and Liverpool, both lovely blokes and good managers but out of their depth.

Just worked out that I could have a spare FT in GW30 for a one week punt on Mata > Lallana...

Obviously a lot could change in that time and, if needed, I could put it to good use, but if Evans gets back in time and I have no other injuries, I would rather have Lallana (NOR) than Mata (LIV)...

    The plan is:
    GW28 - Eriksen > Ince
    GW29 - Kos > Azpi
    GW30 - Mata > Lallana?
    GW31 - Lallana & JRod > Sterling & Aguero (2FTs)

Giving me 8 DGWers without a hit (assuming Everton have a double)
    ADRIAN (Mannone)
    Cahill EVANS Olsson (Azpi Ward)
    YAYA Hazard MIRALLAS STERLING (Ince)
    SUAREZ STURRIDGE AGUERO

However, the temptation is to bring this move forward to this week with Lallana having (LIV cpl NOR) in the next three, I think it might pay off...

The only problem with this is that I won't have a spare transfer in GW30 to fix the team if anything goes wrong

    Thoughts?

So to answer, the question... yes I guess you could just punt on Adam...

But they are only 0.1m apart... have you factored in any price rises to these plans?

You might find yourself having to take a hit to afford him anyway, in which case I'd go ahead and get Snodgrass anyway...

And anyway, I'm sure the hit would be for another DGWer so it might actually benefit you...

Tough one. Could you just keep the FT and still field 11 for coming gw. Wouldnt dump Mata cos he plays in gw29.

If owned Yaya I would definetly keep him over the blanks.

Which one is better Silva replacement?

    Snoddy or Mirallas

They both have great stats from last six games. They are both on set pieces.

Snoddy doens't have blank in gw29 but Mirallas likely have dgw in gw31.

Mirallas could have 4 home game in a row and Fulham away in next 5 and he has scored 5 of 6 goals at home.

He does have some brilliant posts, but I don't find those tables to be that accurate, and as a result don't put much weight on them...

I'm not sure how often he updates his algorithms for that data...

For example, he had JRod getting 1-2pts every match for the longest time... which as an owner, was slightly annoying...

I know what you mean and for a long time Adebayor didn't seem to appear at all, so I found it interesting that he was suddenly the clear captain choice this week. Cardiff look clueless defensively under Ole so there is every chance of a high score, although the Europa League game puts me off a bit.

Yeah it seems he has updated recently, and considering how shite Cardiff are, Ade seems a shoe-in for the armband...

I think Ade was missing for a while as he wasn't nailed on. There is a risk factor slide that includes more players as you slide it along. Now Ade is nailed on so he appears in the main table

It's at times like this when you realise that you are just never going to have a Lallana or an Ade in your team at all this season, and that when they both score heavily this week and next there is nothing you can do about it but cry and moan to yourself (and the missus) for being such a stubborn fool...

I would also like to take this chance to thank my missus for putting up with all my moaning when FF doesn't go my way... 😀

Fair point TS. I've been on this site for thousands of years and you can tell who's taking it a little too seriously - you can't stop them posting when they're top 1000 or so but one bad season and boom, you never hear from them again.he ones who stick around and continue to be good assets to this site are the ones who've had your particular epiphany - so this is a good thing.

I think I still harbour some resentment towards the Fantasy Gods for making me think that acquiring the players with lower ownership was a good idea in a bid to catch up with those above me, and that Eriksen and JRod actually had a chance of outscoring Lallana and Ade...

I realise now that I should always just pick the players who I think will score more points...

Lesson learned... so many lessons learned this year...

There always seems to be a lull in February/March as it is an effort to stay diligent at this game for a whole season, and by now a lot of people are realising that their early season optimism isn't going to come true, so less people are playing the game and this will have a knock on effect on posts. Maybe rotation of the FPL manager is an option that needs to be explored...

    Kosc->Distin
    for gw30
    Lambert->aguero & Mata->Nolan

the balance remaining is just 0.3

    Sorry to bring this up again but here are the reason why I think Man Utd won the league comfortably last season;

    1) Fergie was fuming/hurting from the way he lost the league on the last day of the season to Agueroooo so he along with all the players were really fired up. Imagine being a United player and being reminded of that moment. Hence why the defence was better last season compared to this.
    2) RVP was fit all season and on terrific form, this season he has been hampered by injury
    3) Man City were rubbish last year with Kun injured a lot and only 3 strikers for the second half of the season. Also there was tension in the dressing room between Mancini and some players
    4) Chelsea has the whole AVB fiasco and Rafa came along to pick up the pieces
    5) Arsenal had just lost RVP and replaced him with Gru and Pod who weren't exactly prolific which resulted in low morale etc.

If you compare those three teams with this season
    1) City have invested much better this year (Sinclair/Rodwell/Garcia compared to Fernandinho/Negredo/Jovetic/Navas) and are playing miles better
    2) Chelsea have Mourinho back and also invested in good players (Matic/Willian/SchurrleEtoo)
    3) Arsenal are a year older and didn't lose any key players this year and the addition of Ozil and Flamini has boosted morale.

In a nutshell I think the argument that "this is the very team that won the league last year is seriously flawed"

The problem with that analysis is that most of them are about other teams.

Only #1 addresses the fact that they themselves have been exceedingly poor on the pitch, and it isn't enough to fully explain it. The season before that they were good enough to be joint top on points without that added motivating factor.

You are (avoided your/you're) right that this doesn't justify United's poor performance. What I am trying to show is that 11 points clear flattered last seasons' team as the other teams around them had their own problems which allowed United to stroll to the title

The other teams had bad seasons last year and have drastically improved this year. United strolled the league thanks to poor competition and have stood still, if not gone back. I'm not saying that it not's Moyes' fault, what I'm trying to show is that the other teams made United look better than they actually were. Put it this way, if last seasons United were playing this season would they be favourites for the title?

He did buy a 27.5 Mil player in the summer so its wasn't that he came without any 'improvments' if you can call Fellaini that. I'm sure at the start of the season if Fergi was still in charge we would be favs for the title or at least joint favs. Fergi wouldn't have started this season with the same team though as I'm sure Rooney would have been sold.

OK, fair point. But I think it's pretty clear that if all those circumstances were the same, this team wouldn't stroll to the title because the way they themselves are playing is very much worse.
