Another set of double Gameweek fixtures dropped into the schedule this week to further befuddle the Fantasy Football Scout community, with Newcastle, Arsenal, Swansea and Everton joining the Gameweek 31 party. We look back at the raft of hot topics this fixture change provoked, take a walk of shame by admitting our season faux pas and find time to meander down memory lane to revisit our favourite and most notorious World Cup moments. We also drop in on all the latest standings and ties in the community’s tournaments.

The Hottest Topics

While we’re all pre-occupied with bringing in new recruits for Gameweek 31, it also presents some tough choices regarding benching form players with just a single fixture. Irish Madrista asked whether Eden Hazard owners plan to oust the electrifying midfielder in favour of a double Gameweek player. Meanwhile, Rosola went one step further and asked which non-double gameweek players the community will be ditching. John Terry, Eden Hazard and Southampton keeper Artur Boruc are among those mentioned as “untouchables”.

Sergio Aguero has already being discussed as a key Gameweek 31 pick for many, although Innsie wonders if there are perhaps other options. His post comparing Aguero and Newcastle striker Loic Remy proved interesting and surprising reading. It’s a subject that surfaced again this evening, with Nate dropping in with another Sunday evening hot topic, talking up Romelu Lukaku’s claims for inclusion in our plans.

When it comes to midfield options, we find both West Ham’s Kevin Nolan and Sunderland’s Adam Johnson firmly on many a watchlist. The pair of mid-price contenders are vying for community’s affections and came under the microscope of Evilfuk this week, who looked closely at points per game as well as home and away statistics.

Elsewhere, Wednesday’s international friendlies gave the community a chance to reminisce about World Cups of yesteryear. Demel asked which was our favourite World Cup, with Colonel Wasabi nominating the 1978 Argentina tournament – his first chance to get his mits on a World Cup sticker album. Meanwhile, Rayne Wooney asked for opinion on the dirtiest World Cup team, with the Chile squad of the 1962 the stand out selection for Portsmouth Bubbeljet.

Earlier in the week, Giggs Boson invited some community purging as he quizzed us on our most shameful decision this season. Parmtree was among those in confessional mood, openly admitting to his Nani purchase and finding back-up from Granville. Mark also chirped up with another mention of his failure to adopt Aaron Ramsey. He’s still losing sleep over that.

Finally, if you’re dabbling with your Ultimate Fantasy Premier League Wildcard right now, be sure to check out Archie’s superb analysis of the weekend fixture breakdowns. Brilliant stuff.

The Community Tournaments

With a score of 67, Irina’ss emerged as the winner of Gameweek 28’s Scout Picks Challenge, which is loosely based on our very own Scout Picks and has been created by @ocprodigy. The picks themselves finished a credible fourth with 64 points this week.

In TorresMagic‘s Leagues, Intranisigent topped Last Man Standing where 20 managers got eliminated leaving 95 to move on. Sara Oxyzoglu scored best in Millionaire Club, where only 9 managers survived as 44 went broke. In addition, his FPL Open first round draw is available here.

ENR, Bootsy, Jonty, Billy Ketsu, Jambo17 and Koneheads were the league leaders going into the Gameweek 29 in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things competitions.

Ahead of Gameweek 29, Gaz Downright continued to tighten his grip on first place in the Fantasy Football Scout’s Moderators and Contributors.

The Iron Man competition, for those taking part in multiple games, saw no changes in the top spots with Gigging Order and In Like Flynn continuing in first place in the competition’s Sky and Metro leagues respectively and Jonty retaining the FPL lead.

    need some help lads.
    Which would you do?
    A) Snod --> Silva on a FT
    B) Snod + Suarez --> Yaya + Kun for -4
    C) Pieters + Snod --> Williamson and Yaya

    Opinions appreciated 🙂

Everyones looking to GW31, but not many are looking past it. Bringing in players for hits simply for a DGW doesn't make sense if you're going to want rid the following week. Noticeable points are:

    1. Adebayor out > Lukaku in: Fine if you're doing this now or GW31 with no hits, but I not worth a hit to ditch Ade as his fixtures post Liverpool are great and Evertons turn sour. Speaking of which

    2. Stocking up on Everton defence: Everton have 2 tasty DGW fixtures and attacking threats of Coleman and Baines could harvest a lot of points. Defence has been shaky recently, so relying on the likes of Distin could prove unprofitable when their fixtures turn bad. Suggest getting Baines or Coleman and ditching after the Fulham game for a chelsea/arsenal defender

    3. Ditching Chelsea defenders or even Hazard for some - Chelseas defensive record is incredible. Only 1 goal conceded in 2014. And they have the best run in of all the teams post GW31. Suggestion: Ditch them at your peril.

    4. Choosing Hammers - West Ham have arguably the worst run in to the close of the season. Think carefully if you want to bring in Nolan and co. Hull, Sunderland and City also have poor remaining fixtures, though the latter tow's are boisted by a few extra DGW's. Suggestion: steer clear of WH unless you have an exit plan

    5. DGW teams with good remaining fixtures - United, Villa Swansea and Arsenal after their tough fixtures also have a kind run in and should steady the ship post GW31 if you were to bring them in. Suggestion: All up to you. Go for it if you fancy any of these teams.

Hope this helps guys and of course all speculative.

Lukaku has burned a lot of people this season when they got him in for a good set of fixtures and he only got jammy assists, so I think they're biased against him and blinded with the Aguero love in.
I think Aguero will be a huge points scorer, but I've decided Lukaku for DGW 31 instead of him and will get Aguero for the later doubles, even if it costs me 0.6 etc more.

If you can afford it it could be very profitable. Lukaku looks fresh and aguero may be rested. Personally I'm going Baines instead and Aguero. Need to do it now for price. and don't think it's worth a -4 to ditch Ade for Lukaku

great write up. I'm all for conservatism when it comes to hit's before DGW.

      1. Ade --> Lukaku is a like for like IMO. nil trade and gonna make minimal difference.

      2. I've had Coleman all season and that's what I'll be sticking with

      3. Someone advised me to trade out Azpi the other day and I just laughed.

      4. I'm all over the Hammer's (had Collins and Nolan for a while now) at the moment but come GW 33 I'll offload them all and reap a bit of reward.

      5. I was considering trading Mert but then you and some others made me aware of their soft run in.

The problem remains about who to trade out for City cover 😐

A tricky one alright. You will need some City, esp for the DGWs with people set to captain Aguero. Would you want to go without him then? Trouble is all the non DGW players in my tema are playing well - Hazard, Lallana etc.

Agree. It's all about maximising the points. If you can get Remy and then ditch for Lukaku for his next DGW then how bad, but I'm more talking about people taking unnecessary hits to bring in players blinded by the DGW

I agree with basically everything you've said. I certainly wouldn't be trading either one of my Chelsea defenders for an Everton defender at the moment and Hazard is a season keeper really.

I think its also important to consider teams that have something to fight for. Complacency will set in for some teams but the likes of Sunderland and other relegation candidates will be fighting every step of the way.

Just consider the fact that Lallana is being sold in droves and will face a price drop or two. Aguero is going in the other direction potentially making a 0.5+m difference in price. Southampton are in mid table obscurity and have little to play for, I'd make the trade.

WC wasted for those still holding it?

Since we have a big dgw 31, most will be able to get 9-11 dgwers out with 1 hit on average. So,not much ground gained for WCers.

And if they decide to keep it for later then only City,Sunderland,Villa,Everton and West Brom(no fantasy assets) and Palace will have doubles in gw 34 and 37.

Cover for these teams can be got by carefully using FTs as most will already be loaded up on City and Everton. So, not much help there either.

I don't like Arsenal fixtures. If you don't lose much money, I think Koscielny.

Aguero could be 0.2-3 more expensive by Friday. He's already 0.1 too expensive for me right now really.

TSherwood upping the morale of his Suprs players & fans. Not.

no paulinho, only brot him 2nd half. paulinho is NOT jetlagged from mid week, saw an interview today in brasilian tv where he was asked point blank why he did not start , he answered he did not know, that he was ok. Eriksen earlier in season ts took him out (mking ref to b4 his bak problem obv)

not sure. theyre both so unpredictabe. but one thing is for sure, w/ the name players Tot has, a louis van gaal or any other respected coach could make this team roll forward.
Soldado has to give someting more along w/ lamela (who is now injured)
now Verts - Eriksen - Ade is a good core. Walker, Townsend help.

Mourinho is thankful making reference to TSherwood's decision to put in Walker Midfield.

meanwhile Paulinho was bench. (not injured nor jetllaged). In brasil, paulinho wil not play only if both his legs are broken, thats how vital the guy is to every team he's played in brasil and the national tam (along w/ Neymar and Thiago Silva)

Template GW31 WC players - which DGWers are you getting? For me it looks like being:

    MCY - Yaya, Aguero & 1 of Zaba/Silva
LIV - Suarez, Sturridge and 1 of Skrtel/Sterling/Gerrard
SUN - Manonne and 1 or both of Bardsley/AJ
    WHU - Adrian & Nolan
    HUL - Chester
    AVL - Vlaar
EVE - Coleman/Baines (with a view to getting Lukaku later)
    CPL - 1 of Ward/Puncheon
