We delve into the data offered up by Saturday and Sunday’s 10 fixtures this evening. Newcastle’s weekend goal hero, Villa’s foraging frontman and Liverpool’s talismanic South American are all under analysis, while we also cast an eye over a trio of midfield playmakers plying their trade at United, Swansea and Tottenham:
Talking about players who look older than they are check this guy out:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/serie-a/10635867/Lazio-threaten-legal-action-after-claims-Cameroon-17-year-old-Joseph-Minala-is-actually-41.htmlOpen ControlsLooking at the stats price vs points it seems MUTCH is the best player [cash for points] at the moment, averaged over the season.
Suarez doesn't even make the top 25.
This is the best value for money team you could have bought in GW1.
Speroni (4.5) Ruddy (5)
Terry (6) Fonte (4.5) Koscielny (5.5) Coleman (5) Skrtel (5.5)
Mutch (4.5) Bacuna (5) Livermore (4.5) Delph (4.5) Lallana (6)
JRod (6) Suarez (11) Lambert (7.5)
Total of 85 million - which leaves you £15m to upgrade some of that skank midfield.
WIth that exact team you would only be on around 1850 points, assuming just CSuarez, but if you had used the extra £15m wisely you could easily have got in Yaya, Hazard and upgraded 2 others to maybe Studge whoever - which would add well over 300 to that, putting you at number one in the world.
😉
I think the main thing to take from this is that it looks fairly conclusive that spending a bit of money in defence seems to pay off, as the Value/Season seems to find the sweetest spot is in defence.Open ControlsMert is better value than Kos. They both started at the same price.
Open ControlsYeah - excuse me for not spending three hours on this.
I just took the players who were showing at top of Value/Season thinking that some of you might be interested.
As you point out, you could have made even better choices than those above. If they had the stat as Value/season/GW1price Coleman would probably be through the roof and Suarez would be a lot higher.
Still. Looks like MF is best place to save money, if you can predict who is gonna be the one to shine.Open Controls
4xSouthampton
Open ControlsInteresting, but would you really spend all season with Jrod and Lambert up front?
The skill of this game is getting players when they are about to hit a good patch and getting rid of him just before he is going to hit a bad one. Not keeping a player all season just cos he started cheap.
Just my opinionOpen ControlsI was not suggesting that you should have just got these players because they started cheap.
Its just about the value/season stat, which I think is not often mentioned here and is actually kind of interesting and useful, if you know it is there and understand it.
But I guess yes - if you had chosen the team as suggested you could be winning the whole shebang... it would be hard for anyone to argue that they had more skill than you because they were making lots of transfers, right?Open Controls
Value for money calculated by simply dividing points by price is a very misleading concept. What matters is to optimise the improvements in your score when you replace most of these players by more expensive ones. Points will increase as value diminishes.
Anyone could be number one in the world, and by an enormous margin, if they knew in GW1 exactly how many points each player would score during the season. Now, where's my time-machine?Open ControlsI disagree - what matters is to get the most amount of points you can, and you are given a finite amount of money to spend. Maximising the effectiveness of that money is all to do with finding the players who return the most points per million.
Open ControlsYour suggested team may return the most points per million, but it only costs 85m. By using the other 15m effectively, you will get far more points but will collectively return fewer points per million.
I agree about maximising the effectiveness of your 100m, but the way to do that is not necessarily by finding the players who individually return the most points per million.Open Controls
I'm sorry RDPX, but this is the worst post I've ever seen on FFS in the 4+ years I've been on here.
Again, apologies, I don't mean to be mean, but if Silva Surfers reads this, he would actually spit out his cornflakes and stain his tie.Open ControlsGoing to back up why you think it is so bad or just make the swooping statement?! Bit pathetic saying it if you can't...
Open Controls
Do we think Miralles will start tomorrow? He's gotta have a decent chance after the weekend, right? Hopefully he does!!
Open ControlsYeah, did well. Should start.
Open Controls
If Dzeko misses the game tomorrow, I'll post a nude picture of myself.
Open ControlsJust out of interest why is this Rooney goal getting so much hype don't get me wrong it was good but Adrian had a nightmare his positioning and clown like running backwards is embarrassing to say the least. It's amazing though what back to back wins does to united fans and the media though.
Open ControlsOh come it it was a great goal. How often do you see one like that? If Adrian had not had bad positioning it wouldn't have been a goal. Rooney's shot turned him into a clown.
Pure magical entertainment - what more do we want from a game of football?Open ControlsNo Goalkeeper mistakes and less man u fans
Open ControlsI`m with Obi Wan. Sure it was well taken by Rooney, but a shot that bounces like that is more of a goalie error than "a magical effort". Dont get me wrong, it`s pretty sick to score from close to midpitch, but a better goalie..
Open Controls
Adrian was drunk.
Open ControlsReally.
Open ControlsReally, I honestly would have saved that myself was nothing special at all. I've seen better shots from that distance that haven't gone in because a keeper should be saving it
Open ControlsIt's down the middle I played in goal for 8 years and if a player is on the half way line I'd be positioned in the middle basic Goalkeeper knowledge and the fact it's bounced as well makes it that much easier to save
Open Controls
Tettey's goal was far superior and isn't getting anywhere near as much attention as this
Open ControlsAgreed. Yaya's third was a better goal to me also. That said, Rooney had a split second to see the situation and hit the ball on the volley. Great skill but the goal is not worthy of all the hype.
Open ControlsBut I'll stick by it. It wasn't that well hit and Adrian has had a nightmare why is he standing by the back post when the ball is that side anyway the ball has dropped in the middle of the goal
Open ControlsHe did exactly what he aimed to do which was to put the ball in the net. It was very well hit.
Open Controls
If Rooney had scored the Tettey goal , the media would be running is this the greatest ever goal stories all week
Open ControlsHave a +1 the media is 80% to do with the deluded United fans
Open ControlsYep I still hear some of them talking about champions league football next year just because they beat Olympiakos and West ham.
Open ControlsThis is all irrelevant as clearly the wilshere team goal earlier in the season was the best
Open ControlsWon't win because he plays for Arsenal
Open Controls- Open Controls
It wasn't even the best long distance goal of the weekend.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26718369Open ControlsDon't FFS has become a united forum nothings better than Rooney other than everyone when he wanted to sign for City
Open Controls
I find it annoying when a goal such as Rooney's gets such a huge talking up.
Barry Sellars of Scottish 2nd Division Arbroath scored a goal very similar but from about 75 yards last season. If it happened in the Premier League it would be talked about for years.Open ControlsTrue I played there and it was first time I ever seen a goal kick go out for a corner without anyone touching it
Open ControlsComment removed. Please refer to our terms and conditions on posting comments.
Problem was it was against East stirling, and their keeper was still doing his post round when the shot went in
Open ControlsAgainst Dumbarton - 100 times the quality of East Stirling... 😉
Open Controls
Not Premier league because Alonso and Suarez have done the same thing as well as many others. It's United players look at Beckham became the best player ever to some people because of his against Wimbledon yet at best he was good.
Open Controlsdidnt alonso do it in two games in a row, one was in the cup against luton and the other against newcastle if im not wrong??

Which players will score highest in today's games?
Open ControlsIt's a really weird feeling owning Ox for the second game when I totally thought he was getting suspended.
I'm now comfortable with whatever he does, because it's a bonus.
Apart from doing another Peter Schmeichel impression.Open ControlsWould be a bonanza if he played and scored
Open ControlsI got him for the Swansea game. Who knows what the heck he will do, he's been our most dangerous player
Open ControlsSure has but that's not saying much of late. His pace is much needed though. Hope he plays
Open ControlsYep it's all about the pace - my plan when I got him was that he'd be the outlet. That was back in GW27. Since then, he was benched against Sunderland (who we thrashed 4-1) and Stoke (who we lost to with him coming on in the final 20 and being our most dangerous player), then had a blank, Ozil and Wilshere got injured....
I think I might have single handedly ended Arsenal's season.Open Controls
Probably the biggest escape this year :p
Open ControlsI'm so glad I didn't watch the first half live.
Open Controls
Something Redlightning said above made me think:
If in GW1 you picked a team that were just all brilliant and you were cruising points and had no need to make any transfers because it was just bang on, how boring would that be? I would hate it.Open ControlsAnyone with a problem just then?
Open ControlsMorning DZ.
Mata, Evra, Chambers -> Yaya, Cahill, Chester (-8)
Crazy, right? Or crazy beautiful?Open ControlsMorning NABIL, how are you?
Gives you Yaya and loses your two blanks for 34, what's not to like. 🙂 Have you three Everton for their DGW 34?Open ControlsMorning ILF. I'm fine, but the nation is in grief. A tragic end for MH370 🙁
Open ControlsI take it it's been found?
Open ControlsNot found. But new analysis concluded that last position was in the middle of Indi ocean. Far from any landing site.
3 EVEs this week already - Coleman, Mirallas and Lukaku 😉Open ControlsSo who has the technical ability to hide a plane from half a dozen countries's civil and military radar systems or to make those records disappear?
Same ones for me.Open ControlsThat's the question. 😉 Go ask the manufacturers, Boeing and Rolls Royce. They have "provided all the information related" but yet to answer some serious technical questions. laughed initially at the attempt to drag Iran and terrorist links to this story.
Open Controls
Most overrated player, past and present?
Cantona - Excellent player, but wouldn't even make the bench on my reserve squad fantasy all star team.
Welbeck - I will go as far as to say he's shit. Every so often he will have a seemingly decent game, then straight after back to his normal ways.Open ControlsTaarabt, Dempsey this season. Probably not the most, just ones that spring to mind, as having had lots here plugging their worth.
Open ControlsPELE - he was okay but nowhere near as good stats as Brian Clough.
SILVA - all year it has been "he's just hitting form" - he couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.Open ControlsThere's a reason why Silva is the only foreign-based player in Spain Euro '12 Final line-up.
I know he's very inconsistent this year (a bad FPL prospect indeed), but form is temporary, class is permanent.Open Controls
Past - Roberto Carlos
Present - GotzeOpen ControlsActually.. depends on how highly he's rated.
Just that I've never seen him play exceptionally well.. could be my lack of watching him though.Open ControlsYou must be young.
Roberto Carlos redefined the role of wingbacks. I'm sure Cafu is next on your list. Roberto is 10 times what Coleman is today.Open Controls
Did/does anyone really rate him? Even when I had him in my team when he played for Blackpool, I thought he looked pretty awful as a footballer, but I was happy taking his points.
Open Controls
Scholes

98 with 11 to play can't wait for kick off
Open ControlsShould make 100 then. 😉 Or maybe 200?
Open Controls
Just found out Kos is out for the Swansea clash. 🙁
Lose a potential Cleansheet, and a great differential for this week in my ML.
Well, welcome to the team Azpilicueta.Open ControlsJust relized Nolan has 15,7% ownership. Thought he would be a differential..
Open ControlsDreadful fixtures.
Open Controls
I enjoyed El Clasico. From a purely neutral position it was great theatre. Reminded me that there's life outside FPL, and whetted my appetite for the World Cup.
Open ControlsWould love it if Atletico would win the title. Too much is about Real and Barca in La Liga. So, for Atletico it was a good result yesterday.
Open ControlsAgree, would be great
Open Controls
Evening RCA,
I think I might take the Summer off from football and talk to the family.Open ControlsHowya bud. From my experience, it's not worth it. 😉 The eldest two are Minecraft obsessed and the other likes to talk about fairy princess stickers.
Me aul uncle Sean likes to talk football, I might give him a ring 🙂Open ControlsMine are all at need to talk to age 20 - 5* something. 🙂

@Royscalleranne, in response to RDPX's value post:
I disagree, it's not that bad! When the prices come out next year it will be worthwhile to scrutinise every likely first team regular and build your squad around three aspects:
1) 'Essential' big hitters
2) Fixtures
3) Players who appear too cheap in line with the rest collectively, essentially 'value'
It was quite clear to most fantasy regulars that Coleman and Terry offered immediate good value at 5 and 6m respectively.
What about those who haven't taken a single hit with low team value? JRod is still doing the business for this type of player, You could get him this gameweek based on value, he's very consistent and probably my third striker next year from the off.Open Controls38 Game players are worth their weight in prices.
Players who generally stay injury free and set piece takers, particularly captains who tend not to be rotated.
All worth consideration from the cheaper sides with good opening fixtures for 6-8 weeks while the season settles and the big boys are buying in players till the end of August.Open ControlsThe game is all about dynamics. Things change from week to week. Roll with the punches, injuries, suspensions and surprise rotations happen every season.
Nobody in their right mind would have picked that team GW1, and nobody in their right mind would have followed a disciplined, rigid transfer policy that would have led them to number 1 in the world through picking value/PPG stats.
His post, though well intentioned, was utterly meaningless, IMO.Open ControlsOf course, using that logic, although I think his initial point was to suggest a strong defence could be a good basis initially next year. It may well be, if the bonus system (and points scoring system) remain identical.
Open ControlsI think (hope) they will change the bonus system (yet again). Picking CBs who get BPs is so boring. Give me an attacking FB in my FPL team any day of the week. Makes the games so much more exciting to watch, rather than counting how many clearances or blocks Mertesacker has made... Zzzzzz
Open Controls
I had JRod at the start of this season, it didn't turn out so well. You could say the same for similar value players like Snodgrass, he wasn't a good option at the start of the season either. Sometimes value players just aren't worth getting at the start of the season and its better to wait till they hit form.
Obviously Coleman and Terry got off to a good start but you have to attribute some of that to good fixtures and the fact Chelsea and Everton are teams likely to cash in on those fixtures. Both were as nailed on at the time as well.Open Controls
Morning all 🙂
RIsers : Delph
Fallers : Smalling, Kasami, Santon, Bennett & 3 lesser players.Open ControlsThat's me done guys, off to me pit. Goodnight.
Open ControlsGerrard and Sidwell to Eriksen and Lallana, Incase Gerrard get booked against Sunderland, do this move make sense?
Or would u get Mirallas/Nolan instead of Lallana?Open ControlsMirallas should be a good pick since he has DGW34 and looks like getting some form.
Open ControlsNot for me, too many Eve attacking options. Eriksen you would feel is back to being near as dammit nailed, can you say the same for mirlallas? I don't think so, 2 more starts on the bounce required
Open ControlsI've kept Mirallas for weeks and I know he'd deliver. The risk is there, I know.
Eriksen is so enigmatic, form and 'nailed-on-ness'. i'd avoid.Open Controls
Gerrard could still score heavily this week, I would save your transfer or just rid yourself of Sidwell. How much you got to spend? If your chasing try to avoid hits, although I guess it depends if they are differencials over your rivals, erik n lala most definitely very good ones
Open ControlsI will only do this moves if Gerrard gets booked against Sunderland which means he will miss 2 matches, wont keep him on bench for 2 games...
I Cant see much better options in that price brackets
Got 6m to spend incase I jst wanna do Sidwell to someoneOpen Controls
I will be losing Gerrard myself after Spurs irrespective of yellow or not. Had earlier pencilled in AJ but his dgw and gw 33/35 fixtures arent appealing at all. Eriksen and Ox look the best options
Open Controls
Need a 3rd cheap defender to rotate with Ward and Chester - will be benched during gw 34 and gw 37, needs to have a decent gw 32, 35,36 . I'm thinking Mccartney? not confident of a cs this week away to sunderland though. leaning towards chambers but worried clyne will bite
Open ControlsMcCartney more nailed, so with available data thus far he is the superior choice of the 2.
Open Controlsyep thats who I'm leaning towards. Would get a 3rd city defender but I want Aguero and besides chelsea no team's keeping cs regularly , arsenal's fixtures still poor for a bit
Open Controls
Does anyone feel like they lose their head at this point of the year chasing minileague glory? I personally do and feel had I just played it safe in previous years would've had higher overall rankings. Mistakes I knowingly repeat every year:
1) Too many hits
2) Too much emphasis on getting differentials over consistent performers
3) Take risks benching players playing each other in the same gameweek (e.g Defender playing Striker)
4) Take captain risks (Sturridge over Suarez this week)
5) Plan too far ahead (Got only Sunderland, City, Everton players last 2 weeks because of extra fixtures)
6) Sign players early to catch risers (recently stung by Aguero)
7) Get players for fixtures over form (Guess that one is subjective & based more on the individual)
The lesson I never seem to learn is to play the game to get the most points overall, be patient! I probably have made an error aleady this week, Nasri & Lukaku -4 to Mutch and Rooney (c). Really should've just got mutch, played Lukaku and captained Suarez. Even taking Nasri out has flaws with those additional fixtures.
Doh ❗Open Controls1) Not necessarily. I can recall a few occasions that I would have got a lot more points if I've taken a hit or two. People who took hits for Yaya and Mirallas, for example, last week are getting instant rewards.
2) I agree. Silva over Yaya is a huge mistake for me 🙁
3) I never took that risk. For me, always play the best players regardless of fixtures (well, I did it most of the time).
4) A big no-no to me.
5) This. I usually plan ahead and get players with 3 good fixtures coming up, but I can also recall last year winner (Matt) said that he always prioritize getting the players that can get him the biggest score on any given GW.
6) You're either lucky or unlucky with that move. I'd avoid most of the time.
7) Form first, fixture second. That should be the way.Open ControlsFYI, i'm having a terrible season. I did #2, 5 and 6 far too many and I hope I will learn my lesson.
Open ControlsWhen I say hits, I mean the -8 & -12 kind, I think you could easily finish top 10k with a -4 every week. Taking captaincy risks is one of the worst, anyone wanting the highest possible OR will capt Suarez every week. My rivals will do now and it doesn't feel like I can catch them. So I go for broke, lose OR in the process.
I suppose what I'm getting at is I should also captain Suarez every week but attempt to claw back the lead more slowly with superior transfers. 100 points behind, what would you do?Open ControlsCaptain pick should never be the differential imo. Pick the player you feel will score highest, its too much of a punch in the face if you get it wrong and the generic suarez pick scores 20/30. Be patient and use other players rather than captain picks .
that being said, this season is harder than others to play catchup. the gap between the consistent scoring players and the others is wayy too high. the likes of lallana/ yaya / hazard are doing the business almost every week and no one else is really.
when suarez can potentially break the league scoring record with 6 games less played and no penalties, you know you're being treated to something special. Silly not to captain him (I've learnt this the hard way - missed out on some big hauls this year)Open ControlsThis. Never gamble on (c) unless your sixth sense told you so (like I did with Hazard's hattrcik the other day 😉 ). This year it's really hard to play catch up when the favourites are delivering almost every week. I think we have to get players with proven FPL record (Baines? Komp?) but still not owned by many to have any hope on catching up.
Open Controls
All of that can be solved by being patient and then looking at it from a more objective standpoint 2 or 3 days after the games. I think its a good policy not to knee jerk straight away and to hold you transfer plans till price changes at least. Its easier to make good decisions with a clear head and not to make transfer decisions purely on emotion (disappointment, panic etc).
Open Controls
Who else has Kosiclenly 🙁
Open ControlsIs Puncheon still taking penalties for Palace? Considering him as an option for DGW34. Thanks.
Open ControlsGlenn Murray will play for often than not and he's on pens

Predict the highest scoring player in all 4 positions in GW32, GK / DEF / MID / STR
my guess:
Boruc / Evra / Schürrle / Suarez
If anyone wants to keep a tally feel free!Open ControlsBoruc has conceded 9 goals in his last 4 home games. 😯
Please no Evra, I just sold him for Cahill.
my guess : Mannone / Coleman / Schürrle / Suarez.
And I still own Hazard. Damn.Open ControlsCzech / Terry / Gerrard / Rooney
Open ControlsMannone/Ivanovic/Hazard/Rooney
Open Controls
Gerrard -> Mirallas for the FT this week? Frees up some funds for looking at Aguero for the DGW.
Open ControlsI wouldn't get rid of Gerrard unless he gets booked.
Open Controlsagainst his former team...but he ain't too consistent is he. Nasri > Eriksen would give you 1.5m Aguero Cash or Nasri > Mutch 3.5m
Open Controls
I'm a Mirallas owner. Keep Gerrard. He'll bounce back.
Open ControlsI think it will be a good transfer closer to GW34. However I think you should give Gerrard another chance first. Too early to sell right now.
Open ControlsCheers mate, thoughts on getting rid of Nasri then?
