Liverpool return to the summit courtesy of a pair of converted spot-kicks from skipper Steven Gerrard. Fellow Merseysiders Everton ease past Arsenal at Goodison Park, with Romelu Lukaku racking up a goal and assist as the Toffees register a sixth successive win ahead of their double Gameweek 34:

Gerrard Keeps Cool to Fire Liverpool Top
Once again, Steven Gerrard was Liverpool’s hero, twice keeping his composure to fire the Reds in front from the spot against a resilient West Ham and take his side back to the Premier League summit. The 9.4-priced midfielder ruthlessly punished the near 10,000 Fantasy managers who’d shipped him out ahead of the game, reaffirming his premium price tag with a 15 point-haul and taking his tally to 175 points, just five fewer than team-mate Daniel Sturridge. The Liverpool skipper also managed to steer clear of the referee’s wrath, ensuring his nine yellow cards didn’t affect his availability for the crucial title showdown with City at Anfield next Sunday – if he fails to pick up a yellow card in that one, he will avoid an automatic two-match ban.

Sturridge’s Patchy Form Continues
With Chelsea also on the agenda in their next three, those who have loaded up on the likes of Gerrard and Sturridge along with Luis Suarez may be more tempted to part company with the former Chelsea man after yesterday’s match. His blank means he has now scored just twice in the last six – he had previously produced nine goals from seven games upon his return from injury. Currently sitting in 34% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) teams, Sturridge has started to see significant sales since yesterday, with 16,000 already selling him on ahead of the City showdown – with cheaper in-form options like Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko handed a pair of fixtures apiece, the exodus could be set to pick up pace before the week is out as he quickly goes from essential to expendable in the eyes of many Fantasy managers.

Lukaku Stakes Claim for Double Gameweek Captaincy
A blank at Craven Cottage in the previous Gameweek had again raised question marks over Romelu Lukaku’s consistency, but the Belgian blew away clouds of doubt with a 12-point haul at the expense of Everton’s closest rivals in the race for fourth, Arsenal. The impressive performance – despite being fielded wide right – included a goal, an assist and maximum bonus points for the second time in three games. This takes his tally to four goals, two assists and eight bonus points in six appearances since recovering from an ankle problem in Gameweek 28 and, with Sergio Aguero returning from injury to shake up the City frontline ahead of the double Gameweek, Lukaku may have just made himself favourite for the armband as the most secure route into a side that have now scored three times in each of their last four matches.

Barkley Fit to Profit From Early Osman Injury
With the game at Goodison less than 10 minutes old, a head injury forced Leon Osman to take an early bath as Ross Barkley deputised from the bench. Barkley, an injury doubt himself before the game, picked up just three FPL points – despite heavy involvement – but the appearance of Everton’s young attacking midfielder alone will be enough to make a mark on Fantasy managers’ shopping list. Priced at just 5.2, Barkley could offer strapped-for-cash managers a route into the Toffees’ attack ahead of their bumper Gameweek 34 schedule, though there’s no doubt that, as Roberto Martinez’ recent rotation policy has shown, game time for any of Everton’s attacking midfielders is far from guaranteed.

Stones Looking Settled at the Back

Clean sheets have come at a premium for Everton this season. Roberto Martinez’s adventurous approach has drawn plaudits, but with three shut-outs in their previous 17 Premier League fixtures, the odds were against the Toffees keeping Arsenal at bay. With John Stones deputising for hamstrung England international Phil Jagielka at the heart of defence once again, Everton took their tally of clean sheets to three in the six games he has played. Coming in at just 4.1 in FPL, Stones (who has earned three bonus points over that run) arrives on Fantasy radars ahead of the double against Sunderland and Crystal Palace – Martinez remains cautious with Jagielka, saying it would be “a fatal gamble” to rush him back, but there’s no doubt picking either at this point still looks a punt, with the security of Seamus Coleman, Leighton Baines and the mid-price Sylvain Distin seeming safer options.

Arsenal Boosted by Ramsey’s Return
Defeat at Everton saw Arsenal surrender another three points to their rivals in the race for fourth. A place in next season’s Champions League is now looking at serious risk, and with the Gunners winning just two of their last nine games, form is hardly on their side right now. Fortunately for Arsene Wenger, the fixture list now smiles kindly on his team (WHM, hul, NEW, WBA, nor), and with Aaron Ramsey cementing his recovery from injury by climbing off the bench at Goodison, Fantasy managers will be eyeing up the Welshman for the run-in. Now down to 6.9 in FPL, Ramsey’s return could re-invigorate a Gunners side with everything still to play for as they look to clinch that fourth spot once again.

You get a few weeks off to recover from FPL, then you can plan your FWC team.

Once we've failed at that, we can come on here and try to guess the opening date of FPL and try to get the first 10 FPL ID's.

It's a prestige thing to get one of the first ID's.

Some help/advice this week would be much appreciated, I'm really struggling here!

        MANNONE
        ZABALETA -- COLEMAN -- WARD
        YAYA -- A JOHNSON -- Gerrard -- Hazard
        LUKAKU -- Suarez -- Sturridge

2 FTs, £0.3m in the bank.

Only people I really can ditch are Gerrard, potentially Hazard (though I bought him early so couldn't afford to buy him back if I sold him), and Sturridge.

Do I punt on Aguero? Let's face it, it's only a matter of time before I'll want him in anyway.
        Dzeko?
        Silva?

        Puncheon? Mirallas!? Barkley?

        Argh decisions decisions!

          It's a slow Monday morning...

Was just starting to write a bit about the best way to introduce technology into football. I was starting to like the ideas of appeals (a la cricket) more and more, and then as I was writing it started to be able to pick massive holes in the idea.

Anybody any clever ideas about how it may possibly work?

Take Liverpool's 2nd penalty yesterday, ref's decision is a penalty, West Ham appeal it, video ref looks and makes a decision having seen replays. If enough doubt ref's decision stands, if not penalty overturned and play restarts.

I can appreciate that sentiment but in a money driven footballing world where those "human errors" cost you games/points/places/profit, it will not be tolerated for much longer.

Video ref works fine in Rugby. Dont see why it wouldnt work in footie. Only for big calls that the ref isnt sure of, of course. Unlike rugby though, where the game would have stopped anyways, playing advantage, counter attacks etc, might be affected by this.

was interesting to note that people question intro of this as it might slow game up, but we had to watch ref and assistant talking for a minute at whu goal incident, sure it doesnt take as long as that in rugby

I like that the refs ability is part of the game. They need to be elite in their fitness, concentration and decision making at the top level just like the players. I also have no problem at all with diving. It's down to the ref to not be fooled and if he is fooled it's well played in my book. No need to carry on like their legs broken though

if someone is accussed of diving, the ref asks the player in question if he dived (giving him a chance to fess-up). if he says he was tripped, then it goes for review. if the review finds that he dived then the player cannot be given a foul in his favour for the rest of the game. thereby meaning that the opposition team can kick the cr4p out of the cheating git for the rest of the game 🙂

Any talk to the ref by players to be carded. From AFL background the players getting in the officials face would be a very long sanction.

Video ref. That would help a lot, probably stop off the ball stuff too if a video ref is watching.

I reckon if it were possible to warn/ penalise players post game for any antics (diving/ off the ball incidents etc.) that were not seen in game would make a difference too. If the game can be cleaned up before adding video ref then all the better, but worry it's gotten beyond that point already.

An appeal process couldn't possibly work like it does in something like tennis.
Who get's to decide? How many appeals per match?
                Seems way too messy.

I do think more technology can only improve the game though.
Quick video reviews for dodgy offside calls & penos would be great.

Although I wouldn't make a big spectacle of it like they do in tennis & rugby.
                  (would take way too long)

Just have the video judge in the ref's ear giving him the important info and let the ref then pass on that info by making the final decision.

Evra, Sterling & Sturridge > Baines, Dzeko & Lallana (-4) sound good?

The first 2 are very good. Sterling > Lallana for a hit...probably worth it. It's SGW for SGW so the hit is felt a little more but I expect Lallana to be one of the highest points this week and Sterling may be benched for Allen.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do? Besides Sturridge --> Aguero, which I will probably do after the pressers
                      Noone --> Puncheon/Ledley?

                      Team:

                      Mannone ( Boruc )
Ward Coleman Azpilicueta (Williamson, Bruce )
Silva Yaya Eriksen Mutch ( Noone )
                      Sturridge Suarez Lukaku

                      2.8 ITB

                      Thanks in advance 🙂

No point in that. Unless someone you're taking out is going down in value and you won't be able to do it if it does.

Will Mata's price rise before Gw35? I know he has a blank gw34, but there are a lot of stupidos who think "oh look mata almost scored a hat trick on the weekend" and transfer him in.

                      So yes or no?

                      2 FTs:

                      AJ + Sturridge ➡ Puncheon + Aguero

                      Solid moves?
