It’s Friday afternoon and with only the last two Gameweeks remaining, we roll out our weekly look at the Sky Sports Fantasy game. We cast an eye over the pertinent stats, which include the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends and, as always, look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 38.

Gameweek 37 Man of the Match Awards

Here’s a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

Fixture MoTM
Fulham vs Hull Ashkan Dejagah
Man United vs Norwich Wayne Rooney
Southampton vs Everton Steven Davis
Stoke vs Tottenham Emmanuel Adebayor
Swansea vs Aston Villa Wilfried Bony
West Brom vs West Ham Ben Foster
Crystal Palace vs Man City Yaya Toure
Liverpool vs Chelsea Demba Ba
Sunderland vs Cardiff Connor Wickham
Arsenal vs Newcastle Mesut Ozil

A number of differential forwards popped up this week to offer the mavericks amongst us some enticing options, with Connor Wickham, in particular, surprising many with his recent displays. There was also a return to form for Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil, who, after a great start, has flattered to deceive somewhat until now – Sky’s preference towards playmaking midfielders may help him earn more MoTM awards and pick up some serious points over the two remaining Gameweeks.

Gameweek 37 Bonus Points

Four goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Chelsea’s stand in keeper Mark Schwarzer was the top performer with eight saves and a clean sheet. Vito Mannone is still the bonus darling overall with 30 additional points.

In defence, nine players gathered bonus, six for tackles and three for passes completed – Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren was the player closet to achieving both missing out by just 15 completed passes. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 28 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 13 players earned bonus points – nine for tackling and seven for passes. Play-makers Aaron Ramsey, Philippe Coutinho and Mikel Arteta were the three players to manage both. Mikel Arteta is now the games top bonus earner overall with 46 extra points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

Name Team Value % of Managers
Hazard Chelsea 8.8 5.83%
Silva Man City 8.4 5.42%
Terry Chelsea 7 5.41%
Baines Everton 7.7 4.49%
Cech Chelsea 5.8 4.05%

David Silva and Petr Cech look the least likely to feature this week and look like reasonable transfers at this stage, though Eden Hazard, John Terry and Leighton Baines are all fit for the coming Gameweek.

Top Transfers In

Name Team Value % of Managers
Ramsey Arsenal 5.8 10.94%
Toure Man City 8.6 9.44%
Sterling Liverpool 4.8 4.52%
Giroud Arsenal 8.5 3.71%
Aguero Man City 9.8 3.38%

Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Toure were drafted in by around 10% of managers after their return from injury and look great options for the remainder of the season. Raheem Sterling is still the budget midfielder of choice as he continues to deliver decent returns, whilst forwards Olivier Giroud and Sergio Aguero find themselves drafted in by around 3.5%

Gameweek 38 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 38 there is a multitude of options available due to fixtures on five separate days, with enough transfers then you could opt for a five captain approach!

Our Strategy:
Juan Mata (Home to Sunderland) → Juan Mata (Home to Hull) → Sergio Aguero (Home to Aston Villa)

We tipped Wayne Rooney for a haul last week and also backed him for MoTM which thankfully he delivered on both accounts. With a new found feeling of positivity around Old Trafford at the moment, we turn to United again but with Rooney now a doubt along with Robin Van Persie, Juan Mata is perhaps the safest option ahead of two favourable home fixtures.

A quick transfer or captain switch to Yaya Toure or Sergio Aguero for the final day of fixtures in this Gameweek looks a good option as Man City host a struggling Aston Villa side at the Etihad.

Of course if you still have transfers remaining and are tempted to go for the monthly prize you could transfer out your captain each new fixture day and therefore have five captains for the week, therefore increasing your odds of hitting a winner massively.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Our own Fantasy Football Scout League is on top of the Private League rankings. With a £1,000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8000112.

So here's the dilemma. Currently 2nd overall in Nepal, 44 points off first, and would love to finish top. The leader doesn't have Yaya but does have Aguero, and unlikely to bring him in given available funds etc. But it's not worth any money to finish top in that league, and in both the cash leagues I'm in, the guys in 2nd (I'm top) will captain Aguero as they too don't have Yaya.

    Do I:

    (a) consolidate the lead I have in my cash leagues and captain Aguero, mitigating the risk of them catching me

    Or

    (b) take a punt on Yaya, in the hope it pays off and I catch the leader in Nepal, simultaneously extending my lead in the cashies?

Thinking about it some more, as I have both there's more upside potential in captaining Yaya. I still get Aguero's single points if he goes berserk, but if Yaya goes mental I really steal a march on my opponents....

Cash leagues are worth a good few hundred quid.

As Tony Hibbert's says though, you're not Nepalese. So why does it matter to you that you come top in that league? It's just an arbitrary collection of players. Just think about a different arbitrary collection of players who you are beating by 100 points and call it a win.

😆 Yeah, I'm really jealous. What a very strange thing to say.

I must say, I hadn't considered the possibility of you living there. Very few non-Nepalese people do (I've been, several times) but it is common for FPL players to join obscure nations' leagues. I never understood what they got out of it.

If you truly do live there, then I apologise. Carry on. But go for the cash.

Currently have Giroud as captain in my Sky teams.

Worth keeping him for the Sunday game and then use my capt exchange for whoever looks to be in form?
I can't see the point of exchanging him for a Saturday captain. Can you?

Right. He may not be there next season.

RvP surely will with Van Gaal.

Why would Giggs rock the boat? Surely he'd be better brown nosing as a top earner at the club I'm sure he has the clout to say I'm fit to start Giggs.

Van gaal doesn't have the job yet

Giggs will try n give all the lads one last go before the end of the season. The squad will be undergoing an overhaul and would like to give them a send off. Rvp won't be fully fit yet and if holland are in wc, he won't be rushing back either (cba to check).

              Rvp will start a game.

I'd say he's 50:50 to start the next game but since giggs is attempting to play everyone, I fancy little pea. Make whatever subs you wish. It could pay off but I am not tempted whatsoever. You will see from my transfer history I like to speculate to accumulate.

              Not tempted...not at all.

Chasing a lost cause (65 and 52 points behind 1st and 2nd in ML).

They have weak teams for this week imo. (Only DGWer is Huddlestone, who they share. Plus they share Suarez, Shaw, Distin, Lallana.

    My team
    DDG (McGregor)
    ROSENIOR, Skrtel, Ivanovic (Caulker, Coleman)
    NASRI, AMALFITINO, JOHNSON, Eriksen (JANUZAJ)
    AGUERO (C), DZEKO, ROONEY
    (1x FT & 0.3m bank)
    What should I do?

    a) Nothing, use 2 xFT for last game week. (new GK and someone else)
    b) Transfer Caulker/Coleman to Koscielny, Januzaj to Mata, Rooney to Wickham (-8)
    c) Transfer Caulker/Coleman to Koscielny (0)
    d) Transfer Coleman to Koscielny, Eriksen to Mata, Rooney to Wickham (1st has Coleman, 2nd has Eriksen = 11 differentials on both of them!) Ultimate go for broke?

    Pep leaving Bayern? 😯

Franz Beckenbauer has made some disparaging comments since the Spaniard took over, suggesting this week that all was not well in the camp.

"Bayern are not right," said the 68-year-old. "This is something that we have known for weeks. The disappointment is huge.”

“I can't change what I feel and what I feel is we must play with the ball and attack as much as possible.”

“The club must decide whether the coach is the right man for this team.”

At his press conference today, the former Barcelona coach has responded with an ultimatum and vowed not to compromise on his footballing principles.

“The club must decide if the coach is the right one for the club,” he said.

“I have my ideas as a coach and that's how my team will play. I must convince the players and coach them that way.”

Slowed the play down a lot I would agree. They won the BL in record time but I felt the BL wasn't great this year, even Dortmund who would have attempted to compete were absolutely destroyed by injuries. I can certainly understand the concern.

I don't think there really is any concern to speak of. It's his first season, and apart from the unforgivable crime of failing to defend the CL title he's hardly been much worse results wise than Heynckes, who incidentally didn't win jack in his first season. His tactical approach has produced some brilliant football time again to boot. I'm pretty optimistic about the outlook.

I certainly don't think it's a grim outlook, I'm more surprised than anything that such an issue has arisen. I think the main issue is that some of the players are more used to a faster style of attack but I'm quite surprised he's even had to defend himself. I understand why they may have concerns given his style is quite different to their previous methods but I'm surprised that there's talk of him leaving.

I somehow feel (albeit am unable to prove) that it has to do with people wanting to see a manager of his calibre to fail - it's all a bit like José Mourinho now.

Also, I'm sorry about this, but we needed your striker. There are otherwise great players who experience untimely dips in form, and there are those who just don't fit.

What do y'all think of a Rooney => RVP move? There are plusses and minuses for both, just don't know which one has more upside for the upcoming DGW.

On one hand, from the press reports, it sounds as if Rooney will miss the Sunderland match. RVP could then get some significant minutes in that game. RVP would be an incredible differential, if he got into the DGW matches.

On the other hand, Rooney might miss that game but Wellbeck or Chicharito get most of the minutes up top due to RVP's lack of match fitness.

Or, maybe Roons makes a "miracle" recovery and plays in both games?

What say you? Any insight on this potential move?

I'm thinking of selling Rooney now.

If he starts tomorrow then so be it and I'll have lost a dgw'er. But if he doesn't start tomorrow then what makes me think he'll start 3 days later? United have 3 games in 8 days and RVP will be back too which likely will impact Rooney's points.

Taking a punt on Wickham, who is fit and in the form of his life for a Sunderland side that need to win to stay in the Prem looks like a decent move to me.

The last thing we need is our best player to get pissed off with the manager and leave this summer

Hazard criticised the style of play.

Chelsea will be fine without hazard. They need disciplined players. The ones mourinho has brought in this year have been excellent.

I'm a follower of Hazard rather Chelsea's. I support Chelsea mostly because of him I think so I' may be a plastic fan. I loved Mata so was half pissed (if there's anything like that) when Jose sold him so if Hazard leaves that'll be breaking point for me & will end my relationship with Chelsea.

I kind of agree with Mou though to be honest.

        Yeah terrible and outdated.

Currently second in the league and a champs league semi-final (they would be in the final if hazard hadn't been lazy)

God forbid a Chelsea player be inclined to attack. He just wants them to play 11 at the back.
