Snapped up from Arsenal by Paolo Di Canio last summer, the Italian was part of a dramatic first-team overhaul as the Black Cats boss signalled his intent by acquiring 14 new faces over the close-season. Mannone’s prospects looked bleak after his compatriot opted for Kieran Westwood as the Wearsiders’ number one for the opening 10 matches before an injury to the Republic of Ireland international afforded him the chance to impress:

The Statistics

Climbing off the bench to replace Westwood during the first-half of a 1-0 defeat at Hull, Mannone has cemented his role as Sunderland’s keeper of choice with a series of outstanding displays between the sticks. The former Gunner made an immediate impact on Fantasy managers in his first start for the club – having dropped from 4.5 to 4.2 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), his heroics proved vital in helping the Wearsiders to their first clean sheet of the season at home to Manchester City.

The City match set the tone for what was to follow as Mannone racked up 11 clean sheets in 28 starts for the Stadium of Light outfit, with a trio of shut-outs in the final four Gameweeks key to his side’s successful battle against relegation. His back-four hardly made Mannone’s job easy, though – on 20 occasions he earned at least one FPL point due to saves, with a total of 33 save points highlighting just how often he was called into action. Indeed, despite missing those first nine matches, Mannone still finished second for saves – only Cardiff’s David Marshall made more (152 to 131), with the Italian’s 14 stops against Chelsea in Gameweek 35 helping Gus Poyet’s side end Jose Mourinho’s long unbeaten home league run.

Finishing in eighth spot for keepers on 134 points, Mannone picked up more bonus points (16) than any keeper and earned six sets of double figure hauls. Sunderland’s joint-top scoring player in the FPL game, he registered a hugely impressive 4.6 points per game – better than any regular stopper and a sign of his points potential for the upcoming campaign, with a security of starts surely cemented.

The Prospects

Cost-wise, much depends on whether Fantasy games analyse Sunderland’s entire campaign when taking their new prices into consideration. Ultimately, the Black Cats conceded 60 goals in 2013/14 – the fifth worst defence in the Premier League, with only the three relegated clubs and Aston Villa shipping more.

Certainly, a rise in price looks inevitable in light of his displays but if he’s priced too highly, our interest in Sunderland’s defensive options will surely drop. Bearing in mind that Marcos Alonso – with an average of 3.2 ppg – was the club’s top defender, it puts into perspective just how far ahead of his team-mates the Italian proved to be as a Fantasy prospect last time around.

If Mannone comes in around the 5.0-mark, as opposed to 5.5, it’s likely he’ll be the default keeper for many next time around. With six shut-outs at home and five on the road, there was no obvious pattern for those looking to rotate on a home/away basis and given his propensity for picking up the save points, many may choose to simply field the Black Cats stopper as their regular number one due to his consistent ability to deliver the points and perhaps partner him with a cut-price option as back-up.

All these non-Liverpool fans getting all giddy with their ideas that Suarez will be off and thus Liverpool will be poo next season need a reality check: His family is settled, his wife has made good friends and loves the area. Suarez is the center piece of the team a player that has free reign to paint whatever picture he wants. From what people inside the club are saying, Suarez has no desire to leave as Liverpool have met all of his needs and the title push proved they're ready to win silverware.

The difference between this summer and last summer is MASSIVE: midtable and all doom & gloom to now CL and title challengers in bright sunshin. The feeling around the club s confident, excited & determined.

Has anyone emailed McDonalds to ask them to sort their rules out and to release their game earlier so we can actually have some time to put a team together??

I was really looking forward to this game as I really enjoyed the Euro one but since yesterday it's been a huge let down!

Those rules might actually make an interesting game. I hope you won't mess with them. Try to have that as a different fantasy football experience, maybe you'll find something that you actually like.

For those complaining about how good players are beaten by lucky casuals, at least these rules may be very anti-casual. So much so, that I actually got interested and might be playing after all.

      Unless they change the rules.

This is the contact form http://www.fifa.com/contact/form.html if anyone else wants to get in touch. Even if the rules dont change I think they should open the game up earlier, maybe if enough of us contact them it may convince them to do so.

Don't email them, let them work to get the game out.

Instead of complaining about those rules, give them a thought.

I've started to like this squad-transfer-substitution system. Large squad, no transfers, no subs for players who have played. Takes a little bit of thinking before hand and no corrections afterwards.

The good type of Balo only exists for half a match once a while. The bad type is there always. Checked bookies if I could play bet for a player being sent off during the tournament, unfortunately nobody was offering this game.

I would be interested in Balo's odds.

The more obsured and rediculous the rules are, the more advantage people who understand them have. I hope they dont change, because with the no transfers rule when people work out the rules they cant get the players in that we hopefully already have. anything these rules take a lot of luck out of the game which im happy with. More chance of winning as far as im concerned 😀

fantasy world cup or euros is just a bit of fun to me, i'm not at all fussed about winning, its about having a ML with family & a few friends to add to the world cup experience, there's no way i'm even gonna bother try & explain this to them. sometimes simple is better.

You don't have to explain. They will learn.

Anyway, it will be easier for those who are not used to FPL or UCL fantasy rules. Mostly these seem weird just because you are not accustomed to them.

Fairly simple rules, after all, imo. Unless they mean something else than what they say.

doubt it, they wont want to learn, it was a big enough pain explaining it to them them at the euros to get them involved, i was hoping there'd be familiarity so they could just pick up where they left off but that's not the case so i wont be bothering this time.

Do you remember 2010 when they were going to deduct points for uncompleted passes? This penalised attacking players who didn't just make safe passes and resulted in Evra, I think it was, scoring negative points in his first game although most observers thought he was man of the match, so they abandoned this rule after the first match.

    The Dutch 30 :

Goalkeepers : Krul, Cillessen, Vorm, Zoet.

Defenders : Verhaegh, Van Aanholt, Rekik, De Vrij, Martins Indi, Kongolo, Blind, Veltman, Vlaar, Janmaat.

Midfielders : Sneijder, Fer, Nigel de Jong, Clasie, De Guzman, Van der Vaart, Vilhena, Wijnaldum.

Forwards : Depay, Boetius, Lens, Van Persie, Kuyt, Huntelaar, Promes, Robben.

Now LVG has already mentioned that they will play 5-3-2 , expect an 11 like this
    ------------------------------------------------------Krul---------------------------------------------------------

    ------Janmaat-----De Vrij-----------------Vlaar----------------Martins Indi-------------Kongolo----

    ---------------------------Claise--------------------Blind-------------------Sneijder-------------------

The defence is horribly inexperience. The most experience guy is Vlaar and he can't even perform week in week out in Holland. Martins Indi is one of the better ones but I don't expect their defence to keep a clean sheet at all.

As a Holland fan, I'm worried for them in this world cup. Wont be shocked if they fail to make it out of the group. I doubt the manager can bring the best out of the team, a lot are way past their prime and are not entering the wc in good form. I'll be shock if they can even make it to the quarters or semis let alone the final

Obviously I have limited information on this issue but from all the fans I have spoken to the answer has been no.

Therefore, I was wondering if this is a unique phenomenon that only relates to Celtic. Basically there are a number of bands and solo artists that play gigs and only sing Irish/Celtic songs and our fans attend these gigs in large numbers before and after matches and some are not even on match days. These bands even follow us in Europe and play gigs in the cities we visit. Do you know of another club that does this?
