After acquiring Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, Chelsea returned to the Spanish top-flight to finally complete their summer-long chase for Diego Costa last week. The 25-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge on a five-year-deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £32m, after Jose Mourinho’s side triggered the release clause in the Spanish international’s Atletico Madrid contract:

Discussing the move with the Blues’ official website, Costa was quick to praise his former side after a sensational season under Diego Simeone’s guidance last time around:

“I am very happy to sign for Chelsea. Everybody knows it is a big club in a very competitive league, and I am very excited to get started in England with a fantastic coach and team-mates. Having played against Chelsea last season I know the high quality of the squad I am joining. I would like to thank everybody at Atletico who made me into the player I am, it was an incredible time for me, but now I am starting a new adventure and I hope to win many trophies with Chelsea.â€

The History

It’s fair to say Costa’s career was slow in getting off the ground. The forward was limited to street football in his native Brazil until the age of 16, when he was snapped up Barcelona Esportivo Capela, before signing his first professional contract with Portuguese outfit SC Braga in the summer of 2006.

Quickly loaned out to FC Panafiel Portugal’s second division, Costa grabbed five goals and an assist in 13 appearances before Atletico Madrid signed him up just a few months later. The Spanish outfit remained unconvinced over his abilities and, over the next couple of years, loaned him back to former club Braga (a goal and assist in nine matches) and, subsequently, Spanish Second Division sides Celta Vigo (30 appearances, six goals) and Albacete (35 appearances, nine goals) before selling him to Real Valladolid in 2009, albeit with a buy-back clause inserted in his contract.

While Costa’s nine goals and six assists were unable to prevent his new club from relegation, Atletico took note of his impact for the La Liga strugglers and immediately re-acquired his services for the following season. Starting 2010/11 as a squad member, Costa forced his way into the first-team by the end of the campaign and managed six goals and four assists from 28 appearances before injury curtailed his game time the following year.

Having recovered from a knee complaint, the frontman was loaned out to Rayo Vallecano in the latter half of 2011/12 in order to boost his fitness and served up 10 goals and four assists in just 16 league matches. Back at Atletico the following season, he finally flourished under the guidance of Diego Simeone – 10 goals and 12 assists in 2012/13 preceded 27 strikes and five assists last term as he led his club to their first Spanish title in 18 years, whilst eight goals and a pair of assists in nine Champions League matches helped Atletico to the final, where they were beaten by neighbours Real Madrid.

On the international stage, Costa has been a controversial figure. Having been fielded in a couple of friendlies by Brazil, he chose to turn out for Spanish after being granted Spanish nationality – he’s since played six times and failed to score.

The Prospects

Physically imposing and willing to scrap for every ball up top, Costa looks the ideal forward for Mourinho’s style of play. The 25-year-old is renowned for a somewhat impetuous streak and isn’t afraid to put himself about in the final third – as evidenced by 19 yellow cards in his last two league seasons with Atletico.

Despite splashing significant amounts of cash on forwards over the last few years, the London club have never quite managed to replace the barnstorming displays of Didier Drogba. Similar to the Ivorian, Costa was a relatively late starter in professional football and certainly seems to have the same street-fighter attitude as Drogba, who wreaked havoc on top-flight backlines for a number of seasons. As the new boy admits:

“Boys who grew up playing in academies are taught to control themselves and respect others but no one ever told me otherwise. I didn’t have a school to teach me this. I was used to seeing players elbowing each other in the face and I thought it was the norm.”

Clearly, the Blues boss needs to improve upon last season’s attacking displays. Chelsea finished just four points off the top of the Premier League in The Special One’s first year back at The Bridge despite scoring just 71 times – 30 less than Liverpool and 31 fewer than champions Man City – and it’s arguable that the lack of a world-class frontman was the difference between success and failure.

Although Mourinho wasted little time in instilling a real resilience at the back, with 18 clean sheets delivered and only 27 goals conceded, in the final third, it was a different matter altogether. Whilst Eden Hazard can be exempt of any criticism after serving up 14 strikes from the flank, the Chelsea forwards failed to offer Mourinho a solution- Samuel Eto’o was the most prolific centre-forward with nine goals, as Fernando Torres and Demba Ba chipped in with five apiece.

Already, both Ba and Eto’o have moved on as Mourinho restructures his options. Although the Blues boss has insisted his summer spending is already over, reports suggest that Chelsea are in talks to bring Drogba back as a player-coach – a scenario which could see Romelu Lukaku farmed out on loan once more, with Torres utilised as back-up once again.

Despite just one outstanding season for Atletico, Costa has been handed a premium price tag right across the Fantasy games. Coming in at 10.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 9.5 in Sky Sports, he certainly offers a security of starts and will strengthen the Blues’ close-range potential – all but one of his 27 goals for Atletico last term were scored from inside the area.

Whilst his arrival will undoubtedly bring plenty of investment the Brazilian’s way, there’s a belief that Costa’s work-rate and hold-up play, whether in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 could, in turn, strengthen the Blues’ midfielders points potential. One look at Drogba’s record under Mourinho shows the Ivorian was never too prolific – notching 10 and 12 times in his first couple of campaigns under Jose, Drogba served up 20 goals in 2006/07 in the pair’s final year together in London.

Furthermore, with Frank Lampard now departed, there are question marks as to whether Costa can oust Hazard from the role as number one spot-kick taker; indeed, this could be a potentially decisive factor for many, given that the Belgian is cheaper at 10.0 in FPL. With an opening trip to Burnley preceding home clashes with Leicester, Swansea and Villa in the first six Gameweeks, Costa certainly has the schedule on his side as he looks to hit the ground running. However, it remains to be seen whether he can replace Hazard in our Fantasy affections or even offer a double-up option as Mourinho looks to bring the title back to Stamford Bridge.

People seem to forget Costa's fitness issues at the back end of last season, as well as at the World Cup most recently. I feel that once the Champions League begins we may begin to see him rested in the league occasionally, with Torres/Schurrle starting up top or him coming off early if Chelsea are comfortable. Just my opinion, I may be wrong and he'll go on to start every game and score 20+ this season, but I think Mourinho will have to use him efficiently to get the best out of him.
I also think his arrival increases Hazard's appeal slightly. There were many games last season in which Hazard really shined, but his fantasy points didn't match the performance as a result of the underwhelming ability of Torres, Ba & Eto'o. Having Costa there should provide a poacher to get on the end of Hazard's crosses, which went unfinished last season.

Feel free to ignore everything i've said.

    Touched on last page..

I reckon this season is going to be amazing for FPL. It's easy to make a great looking team but there will many you don't have who are in other peoples great looking team. It's impossible to get expensive players from all of the top teams so we have to gamble on who to leave out. Many will jump on whoever does well gw1 only to see them flop in gw2 while the guy they sold nails it. Can't wait 🙂

Anyone find it weird that loads of dads place bets on their son to win an Open before the age of 25 / play in the Man Utd first team / play for England one day?

Surely if that happens, the son will be well off enough to help the dad financially anyway.

4.5 or 5.0 defenders to fit into these spots.

    Idea for the Scouts...

There always seem to be quite a few useful Google spreadsheets floating around and quite a lot of posts on here asking for links to them, e.g. the rotation spreadsheets and someone earlier posted a 'predicted Premier League line ups' one.

Would it be possible to have a place on here (maybe in the Community section) for links to the most useful ones of these to sit? I know there is the Hot Topics tab but these fall away after a while.

SPEND OR SAVE - THE RESULTS!

Earlier today I pitted seven popular FPL options against their cheaper alternatives and asked whether or not the more expensive option is worth the premium. To put it in perspective, there is a total 6.5 saving if you went for the cheaper option in each of the seven match-ups!

    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/07/20/scout-report-diego-costa/?hc_page=5#hc_comment_7613891

Here are the results, as decided by FFS posters:

    1. Koscielny over Debuchy (0.5 premium)

Wow, you are on the Sanchez wagon as well. I can't fathom how an unproven PL player can be worth 1.5 premium over Ramsey but, hey, that's FPL!

I had Sterling in my team at one point, but switched to Rambo for 0.5 more. Mata would have scored more if Mou didn't sit him so much while at Chelsea. Eriksen is also 0.5 less than Sterling - had the same score and played 250 less minutes. Currently I'm debating on Rambo or Mata in this spot. My mids at the moment:

                Hazard Rambo Eriksen Albrighton Arnautovic

Not happy with the A's, going to need to upgrade one of them.

      Hi MJ6987,

Cool post, thanks! Couldn't find your voting poll so here are my own choices and some questions:

      1. Debuchy
      2. Ward. --> Cause he's a full back and that gives him options in the new BPS system
      3. Difficult, Azpi's got competition from Iva and (if positioned on the left) from F. Luis. Why not put Luis (also 6.0) in the poll? He is my Chelsea def of choice
      4. Jones or Rafa seems good. Waiting for more info of course
      5. Ramsey. First see how Sanchez adapts and in which position
      6. Fabregas, 9.0 saves 2mln
      7. Rooney, saves 2mln
6&7 is 4 mln to put in Mid or defence

      - What is your thought on Costa and Remy?
      - What about midfield of Sout? After Tadic (7,5), everyone is cheap, maybe a good rotating 5th mid option?

The criteria most use to select players is choosing a good team for the season (or for the next few weeks). However, this is the wrong approach as you (and more importantly, everyone else) will cruelly be judging your players performance based upon their scores to date. The standard deviation of such a small sample is going to be heavily biased and not at all reflective of season performance, so you really have no option but to take a hatchett to your team if you want to build team value, which is so important in the 2nd half of the season. The most important criteria you should be focusing on right now is 'how can i maximise my team value over the first 10 weeks of the season'.

Therefore, with the initial team selection, dont worry about who will score more over the season x or y, or formations: Some people opt for 4 at the back, some like to go big in midfield or upfront, all is a matter of personal preference. When it comes to team selection there is no right or wrong (except in hindsight), and there are so many permutations, all equally valid, to skin the cat so to speak. Ultimately it doesnt really matter, whats more important is a flexible structure to maximise the team value.

By structure i mean ensure you have the capability to jump on any bandwagon without taking too many hits: e.g. 3x8.5m strikers is not a sensible strategy; nor is any unbalanced team which is too big in anyone area (its easier to switch a mid for a mid, rather than having to sell a mid, to buy a defender for example). Therefore having at least one premium player in each bracket makes it easier to jump on bandwagons as they come available.

No it's not, the most important criteria is getting points each week. Without points, we can't win.

This. If I pick the best team at the start, I don't need to think about getting TV I will have it. 😉 Isn't that what we are all trying to do? Pick the team that will score the most points, which if correct will become the bandwagons.

it is a marathon not a sprint, if you have a team value of 108m+ before xmas you will be a juggernaught that is impossible to stop in the 2nd half of the season

do this and you will guarantee a top 100k position every year (see my record)

i fully agree. whilst trying to maximise points you need to jump on as many bandwagons as possible to generate some team value. And its why i am a fan of playing the early wildcard to enable one to maximise points while getting on some early season bandwagons without costing transfer points.

a flexible set up with i max price def/mf/striker is a sensible approach. baines, sanchez/hazard and aguero/rvp/rooney... with coverage in lots of price brackets.

this is exactly the point... going for points is a lottery given such a small sample space. which is why even the most well thought out teams you see people cursing their selections by the end of wk1.

whereas going for team value is a guaranteed win that will bear fruits later on.

I really think this is going to be RVP's year. But he cost me pretty much my whole season last year because I had to weaken the team to put him in. Is he really worth the 2 million more than Rooney this year I currently have him in simply to the fact Van Gaal rates him so highly.

You are far too regular a poster not to have a grav. Get a grav. And in answer to your question I think it depends a lot on how LVG sets the side up and how Rooney is utilised. I'm on RvP currently though because there's no debate about where he might play.

I think it'll be mata's year more than his. Even in the world cup rvp was prone to missing chances. I think he was energized to score to win his first league title in his first year at united, I'm not sure he'll get 25+ goals. That he misses 3 weeks pre season and always tend to have niggling injuries too doesn't help confidence in getting him.

So I've been pretty bored this evening as my baby is fast asleep and thought I'd look up some youtube vids of some potential fantasy prospects for this season. I know it's a fairly pointless exercise, but it's better than only knowing their stats at the end of the day.

I looked at Herrera and he looks like he might get a decent amount of assists and perhaps the odd goal. But at 7.5 he looks more Modric than VDV so should steer clear.

Next up was Pelle who I had (yes past tense now) in my latest draft. And I'm sorry to say that he looks like a guy who's not going to create a lot for himself. Scores lots of headers and tap-ins. So unless you think that Sothampton have got the wingers and MFers to be creating lots of chances for him then I'd say he's another to steer clear of.

Then I looked at Tadic. And this guy looks the business. He's got pace, trickery and excellent technique. Can create goals for himself with his trickery, has a great shot on him and looks to have an eye for a killer ball. Obviously his highlights were from the much less demanding Dutch league so take from this what you will. But at 7.5, he might be worth a punt. Some of his goals were pure VDV!

I looked at De Jong, Cabella, Markovic, Can, Riviere & Diouf just for sh"ts & giggles too but I don't want to bore you all to death. If anyones interested in any of them then just ask

De Jong strikes me as one of those guys who arrives in the box at just the right time. When I was watching his clips I kept thinking Lampard, but with way more skills and turns and a bit more pace. Both have a great shot in their locker too.

Another one I'd have to say is worth a punt!

Pelle is the Italian equivalent of Klose. Great finisher in the box, but outside of that, doesn't offer much else in terms of runs, creativity etc.

Unless Southampton show they can get the ball to him (Unlike Soldado last year) I'd be wary.

Cheers for summary, unlikely to ever start the season with a foreign import again after Soldaddy...

I too was impressed by Tadic but I'm not sure he will be able to immediately step up and impose himself on PL games. Plus. I can't decide whether he is more Gaston than Lallana ðŸ˜

What did you think of Cabella out of interest?

Must say, wasnt as impressed with Cabella. He looks too small and slight for starters. And he seems like a player who does too many little tricks when they are not necessary at all. Think a small skinny Ronaldo in his first underwhelming season in England when everyone was laughing at who Man Utd had bought. Likes a dive though, so might get some pen assists 🙂

I'm liking Tadic a lot. He could be the guy to lay it on for Pelle for sure, but you are relying on too much there. Go for Tadic if you fancy a punt (De Jong I'd recommend too)

A different (and more helpful) way to think about player costs.

Since the cheapest defender/gk is 4 mill and the cheapest midfield/forward is 4.5 mill ALL of us are committed to spend a minimum of 64 million on our squad. We only actually choose where to spend the remaining 36 million

Additionally at present every player is priced in multiples of 0.5 mill - so we all have 72 chunks of 0.5 million to spend.

Since there is a minimum spend on players it is more statistically helpful to consider a players cost in multiples of 0.5 above the minimum spend.

    And example...

Yaya toure @ 11 mil looks to be twice as expensive as jonjo shelves @ 5.5mill - but this is an illusion.

In reality Yaya costs you 6.5 mill of your discretionary budget and jonjo only 1 mill - making Yaya 6.5x more expensive as you have no control on where to spend the first 64 mill.

It also helps put in perspective really big price players... Is it worth while spending 12.5 mill (8 mill of your discretionary budget) on van persie - 22% of your discretionary budget on one player....

This also highlights the huge advantages of team value and increasing funds available. Upping the funds you can spend to 101 mill is not a 1% rise in funds - but is almost a 3% increase in he funds you have choice over spending... Gain just 9mill over be season and you have 25% more discretionary funds than someone at 100 mill throughout.

    Thoughts?

Specifically I use this sort of calculation to calculate player value

The FFS member tables to points / price

I tend to do points / (price - minimum possible spend)

This approach changes the "value" of mid price players compared to big value players - but you still want to choose some big value players as your most efficient team (projected points per mil) won't spend all your cash!

Wisdom was one of Derby's best players in a season where they were robbed of promotion, there is no doubt he can walk into any position in West Brom's embarrassing excuse for a defence. He has played both centre back ad right back for Liverpool, he should be first choice at West Brom (alongside Lescott.)

I absolutely don't. I have never and will never pick a West Brom player in any position. My comment was because some people are asking if Wisdom will play or not because they want a 4m defender who will play regularly as their last sub. Personally I think it is better to splash the cash and get a 4.5m defender who will get regular(ish) clean sheets like Geoff Cameron.

Yeah, the pre-season lineups now have been too erratic, mostly fringe players and youth players.

The ones coming in August will shed more light.

This is why I am looking forward to the United tour. If they use the same formation throughout, it will give us clear indication on how they will play in the PL and the position of Rooney.

I would guess United more likely to play a 433 than a 523

      E.g.

      DDG
      Rafael Jones New CB Shaw
      New CM Herrera Mata
      Rooney RVP ???

??? Could be Welbeck, Nani, Valencia, Januzaj or a new signing!

In the absence of any new signings the CB may be Evans and the CM may be Fletcher / Fellaini

So I see a lot of people struggling to decide on a 4.5 rated midfielder. So I made a list of every 4.5 midfielder from the three promoted clubs.

    Matty James[22](Leicester): 35[1/5]
    Dean Hammond[31](Leicester): 29[1/1]

    Ross Wallace[29](Burnley):14[0/3]
    David Jones[29](Burnley):46[1/5]
    Dean Marney[30](Burnley):38[3/7]
Steven Reid[33](Burnley):16[0/1]: (Last season at West Brom). RB listed as a midfielder
    Gary O’Neil[29](QPR):29[1/0]

Here are the changes I'd make

*Rosenior to Chester, greater baps potential and goal threat
*Double Liverpool attack isn't a good idea, Remy to Jelavic
*You've underspent in defense, so I'd be spending the spare cash from the move above on Davies to Cahill

Aye the Remy and Sturridge thing just occurred to me. No way is Jelavic going in my team man. Chester got 1 bap last year, Rosenior got 12. He also has more attacking returns. Your advice has failed.

Maybe because has injured for a large chunk last season? Also Hull will be playing 4-4-2 this year rather than 3-5-2 so fewer chances of attacking returns from full backs 🙂

Lol,I'm no astrologist or astronomist but now that they've signed Ince and Snodgrass and with Brady coming back, isn't it obvious that they will go with 4-4-2? 🙂

                  I can see it being more 4-5-1 / 4-3-3

Ince and Brady being the attacking wingers playing off the strikers (like Brady did last year).

Huddlestone the holding mid. Livermore and Snodgrass central mids.

Include Jelavic and Long - you've got a front 7 there. Who would make way in your 4-4-2?

Here's what I think their team would look like

                    McGregor;Rosenior,Chester,Davies,Figueroa;El Mohammady/Snodgrass,Livermore,Huddlestone,Brady/Ince;Jelavic,Long.

But yes you're right, it could go either way. But I think Long is the one more likely to be dropped if he goes 4-5-1. See that is exactly what Bruce did last season is tough away games. Jela was always his first choice

                        Thanks for the help, but

*The ManUnited/Villa/Fulham fixtures were played at the back end of the season AFTER they had reached the FA cup final, and hence he was trying to protect Jelavic more than anything else

*I don't thing being subbed off early shows the pecking order of a manager. If that is the case, Aguero would be the furthest down in the pecking order at Man City

*As you're a member, run a comparison tool over them for them after they joined Hull. You'll get your answer! 😀

Interesting response. Did Jelavic have a bit part to play in the FA Cup Final? Oh that's right, he was cup tied. He was never going to play in the FA Cup Final.

My point was never to show that Jelavic was subbed off more frequently than Long; just to show that Bruce never played Jelavic as a lone striker for tough away games last year (which contradicts my original point that Jelavic is likely to be dropped!)

Or, rather than "likely" to be dropped, my "opinion" is that he'll be rotated and Hull will go 4-5-1.

Haha no worries - not trying to pick fights or anything. As a season ticket holder, I just think he's a bit... clumsy compared to Long, who seems more composed in front of goal.

I do really rate the midfield this year though - and decent back-ups for strength in depth with Aluko, Meyler, Quinn who all played their parts last year.

Remy is a no no now he's gone to Pool. Too many options for them. He'll probably play 3 out of every 5 games (maybe less).

Good to see something different! 3-5-2 looks tempting this season

*Verm to Cahill(greater baps potential) and Courtois to DDG(greater saves potential)
I'd like to see Hazard or Sanchez in there given that it is a 3-5-2 though. Fine effort anyways! 🙂

      Mannone (Krul)
Debuchy Cahill Davies(if transfered) (Vlaar Wisdom) Silva Sanchez Siggy(if transferred) Arnautovic (Albrighton)
      RVP Costa Austin

      Cheers guys.

Just thinking of going all out with UTD and CHE attacks in the initial weeks as i'd planned an early WC!

Thought Nolan was more of a proven goalscorer and more central to WHU's attacks(when they do!)

Agree on the need of a CHE defensive cover.

The potential in double Chelsea/Man United is huge. But so is the risk. High risk, hugh reward.

I'd strongly recommend Arnie over Nolan, with Zarate around as well I'm not sure of his role anymore

*If you want a Spurs defender, I'll almost certainly pick Vert over Walker due to greater baps and attacking potential
        *Chester over Rosenior imo

Have a look at the comparison tool for Walker vs. Vert, average per appearance for last season. Same for Rosenior vs. Chester. I was surprised too, but the stats are pretty convincing.

As for Costa vs. Studge, over the first two fixtures I'll be damn impressed if Sturridge outscores him. But I agree in the sense Sturridge will outscore him over the season.

I think you rated mine in the other thread, but still:

      begovic \\ gilks
      debuchy \\ vermaelen \\ mariappa \\ coloccini \\ chester
      hazard \\ mata \\ eriksen \\ sigurdsson \\ albrighton
van persie \\ dzeko \\ giroud

If yun looks like starting for qpr, then I will bring him in ahead of chester - as the qpr rotation works that little bit better and would be worth the risk for 0.5m in the bank.

It's been quiet on the Utd front actually. I think Van Gaal meant it when he said he was going to take a little while to assess what he's got. The Vermaelen deal isn't far off but then it wasn't far off a few weeks back. Utd generally get deals wrapped up very fast if they're genuinely interested in someone though.

Apparently there was no offer for Carvalho but Wenger definitely in the market for another CB (possibly 2) and another midfielder. Not looking at strikers as he has Sanchez and Walcott as back up to Giroud and midfielders to cover them.

I still highly doubt someone on a fantasy football forum has any more knowledge than someone like myself who just reads football news and tweets from fairly reliable sources (i.e. Ogden, Mitten, etc rather than the likes of Indy Kaila).

Don't buy into any of this ITK myself but so many people do because they are told what they want to hear.

*note: this doesn't mean i'm undermining your dad's mate or whatever, just very cynical about this stuff.

    SPEND OR SAVE

Thought this might be a fun topic, is each of these "expensive" players worth the premium over their cheaper alternative?

Answer YES (worth the extra money) or NO (not worth the extra money) for each one. Add explanations if you like.

    1. Koscielny over Debuchy (0.5 premium)
    2. Ward over Mariappa (0.5)
    3. Cahill / Terry over Azpi (0.5)
    4. Shaw over Rafael / Jones (0.5)
    5. Sanchez over Ramsey / Ozil (1.5)
    6. Hazard over Fabregas (1.0)
    7. RVP over Rooney (2.0)

Feel free to add others as well.

      1. Either/both Koscielny and Debuchy. Could see them both being in the points a fair amount.
      2. Ward for the guaranteed starts, Mariappa should the transfer market stay closed and he claims his spot.
      3. Either. Until Mourinho shows us his favoured back line, I'm not convinced any are nailed on.
      4. Formation dependant. If 3 at the back Shaw. If Rafael is starting, then him. If conventional 4 at the back, whoever is the cheapest and guaranteed!
      5. Personally Ozil, dependant if Sanchez somehow robs the main striker position.
      6. Fabregas. Great bargain.
      7. Time will tell. Currently set on Rooney, but if LVG remains unimpressed, off to RVP I go!

No, Debuchy quite attacking and Koscielny error prone imo (could be dropped on bad performances)
Yes, but it looks like I'll have to settle for Marriapa without restructuring the whole team
Yes, Cahill is always good for a goal/baps and is a lot more secure. Always the risk of rotation with Azpi, especially with the new LB.
No, to be honest neither cheap options excite me, but if Verm/Vlaar joined I would take one of them.
Yes, if Walcott is out, No if Walcott is fit

Yes but if the player is not yet fit he can win it with the other 20 players in his squad. I don't buy this "golden boy" thing even as a United fan but things may change if he is appointed captain. Basically, I agree with your point although it may not necessarily be true and all we can do is wait for pre-season.

Depends how much training he actually does. Anyway, there is no real point to speculate imo. If you are making drafts from now then have some Rooney ones and some RVP ones imo and we will know more closer to the time.

If United can't rest RVP until he's fully ready then they have a bigger problem than RVP not starting for a game or two. Having said that I expect he will play and play well...this sitting on a sun lounger all day isn't how some footballers have a holiday...well Rooney might.

It's not that I think they will rush him back before he's ready. I just think Van Gaal will make sure he's ready, and has plenty of time to do so. I was concerned at first that he is 'on holiday' but as you say, it's not like he is going to be lying with his feet up drinking margharita's the whole time. He more than anyone will want to get himself ready for the start of the season.

Yes, and Rvp won't be fit. He will have had 1 week pre-season. To be match-fit it would have to be 1 week very intense training which would risk an injury to fragile Robin. Will come on as a sub at best I reckon.

      Lambert is decent back up.
Origi is one for the future.

My point exactly. We're in the CL, Spurs were not. We're buying players with PL experience, Spurs did not. We'll keep our manager, Spurs sacked theirs. Our manager chooses who he wants, Spurs' manager at the time didn't have much of a say.

He should be.. Both their RBs - Reid and Billy Jones have moved on. And Dawson has being playing CB and not RB in the friendlies with some lad Atkinson playing RB - probably an academy player.

So he should be nailed on.

But I think I read something on here about the Costa Rican RB moving to WBA.

Seems like it, £2m deal, can play as either a right-winger or a right-back so might keep Wisdom out of the team. ðŸ™

Fabregas, Mata, Ramsey, de Jong, Albrighton.
      Giroud, Diego Costa, Dzeko.

Was considering changing Dzeko to Jelavic and then Fabregas and Ramsey to Hazard and Sanchez.

Fine team. Here are the changes I'd make

*No need of rotation with DDG, pick a 4.0 keeper over Krul
*Cameron to Huth/Pieters as he might not be nailed on
        *De Jong to Arnautovic
        *Diego Costa unproven,get in Sturridge
*As you said Dzeko Ramsey Fab to Jela Sanchez and Haz

4-4-2 isn't as effective as a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. Try changing your formation!

        Good one

*Pick Vlaar only if he moves to Southampton
*Debuchy has poor fixtures early on,try getting in a Chelsea defender, preferably Cahill
*RVP to Rooney(RVP tired after WC) and Costa to Sturridge(Proven PL performer)

Rooney will be nowhere near my team, this is RVPs year. Rooney will be a mid if he gets a game at all, I dont think LVG has much time for him but preseason will inform a lot. I'm on the punts at the mo regarding DeJong Costa and Tadic and I expect at least 1 or 2 to start well and I can drop the other then. Thanks for the input though.

        This is good too!

*Cameron to Huth/Pieters, depending on pre season
*Rosenior to Chester, more nailed on and greater potential for baps
*Everton midfield a minefield, Tadic looks a better prospect
*I'd personally get Sturridge but RVP/Aguero will do the job as well

Cheers mate, Mirallas is a one-week punt then a straight swap to Tadic. Using his game against Liverpool to see how he plays, etc.

Just need to sort out my defence; for 22mil I can get an adequate back 3 each week, just need to figure out who the cheap starters are. Cheers for the RMT

Looks good, Pelle unproven though. Europa ruins it for hull and I wouldn't personally spend 5 on a hull defender. Baines looks a good differential. So:

        *Davies to Chester
        *Pelle to Dzeko
        *Costa to Rooney
        *Aguero to Sturridge
*Mata to Hazard (you will need him trust me)

*Doubling up on Arsenal early on a dangerous option, I'd get Fab instead of Ramsey
*Kane only if he looks nailed on, which is unlikely given that Poch plays 4-2-3-1
*Again I don't prefer unproven PL strikers, he could easily turn out to be another Soldado
*C Davies to Chester, 5 for a Hull defender is overkill

I will probably change it again about 1,000 times but for now this is it
      De Gea - Krul
      Azpi - Debuchy - Cameron - Ward - Demel
Mata - Eriksen - De Jong - Shelvey - Tiote
      Rooney - Costa - Adebayor

      Team Value - 99.5m

*Azpi to Cahill, has more baps potential and greater goal threat

*Debuchy to someone else, his fixtures early on are very very poor

*Ade not nailed on as of now,Dzeko perhaps?

        *Costa to Studge(proven PL performer)

Costa is because opening weeks are easy for Chelsea and ridiculous for Sturridge, I will make the swap after GW3 I think.
I don't want to spend more than 6m on defenders (even that is a push) so I won't consider Cahill.
Chelsea and Arsenal consistently get the best defensive record in the division so want 1 player from each and Debuchy is the cheapest on either team and he should get forward a lot and get some assists. Also his fixtures are not that bad, not compared to Liverpool or City.
I thought about Dzeko but his start is solid and if, after preseason, any of my players are not guaranteed starters I will deffo change them.

Debuchy got 12 yellow cards last season and plays spurs, chelsea, city and everton in the first 7. Food for thought! 😀

Rest I agree with you 🙂

TBH I never really thought about the yellow cards but you're right, 12 points is a fair amount for a defender every season. The thing is I always like to have a solid spine to my team that I don't change all season no matter what the fixtures (usually 5 or 6 players) unless injury or transfer. I can see De Gea, Azpi, Debuchy, Eriksen, and Rooney being those players that I just don't get rid of. Also Sturridge once I put him in.
This is largely because I hate spending points on extra transfers, it never works out for me. Last season I made the inspired double transfer of Ox and Gibbs in for an Arsenal double gameweek and then Gibbs got sent off for something Ox did and then neither of them played the next game. I also put Rooney, Mata and Jones in for the United double gameweek at the end of the season (at home to 2 bottom half teams) only for Moyes to play some kids and Rooney to get injured!

Yes, but nothing is certain in FPL! So well, nobody knows...
Azpi might not be nailed though with Luis coming in 🙂

Carroll is a good punt imo. Rest looks alright. Debuchy is the only one I wouldn't consider though 🙂
