With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the  Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please encourage those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial lineups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

First up, I’ve decided to post my current lineup. I’ve opted for a squad that has a spread of money across the positions, with two rotating goalkeepers and a strong focus on the four to five teams I think are most likely to profit from goals and clean sheets. It also shows a strong bias towards those teams with favourable early fixtures and, hopefully, it’s set up to be flexible enough to make quick early repairs.

Guzan (Krul)

Terry Evans NTaylor (Wisdom, Duff)

Ramsey Hazard Mata Henderson (Albrighton)

Rooney Adebayor Dzeko

0.5m in the bank

My main deliberation surrounds whether to go with Diego Costa up front and and an 8.5 midfielder, probably Rahaeem Sterling, instead of my current selection of Emmanuel Adebayor and Eden Hazard. That gives me a Gameweek 2 option to possibly swap one of Jordan Henderson or Sterling for Gylfi Sigurdsson, although I’m happy to keep both those Liverpool midfielders if a transfer is urgently required elsewhere. I do feel that Hazard will be the top source of Chelsea points, however.

Alternatively, I could stick with Hazard and a 9.0 striker. Of this group, the main options seem to be Romelu Lukaku and Adebayor. This also gives me flexibility to hop on any emerging strikers who show promise for 8.5 or less. As you can see, I’m currently favouring this option.

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMT’s throughout the day on this article.

Ramsey or Sanchez is a key question?

    For me, Ramsey.

He is the clock of arsenal. He keeps them ticking

    best I can do atm

    Mannone/pants/NPG
    b.davies/oshea/shaw/yun/wisdom
    mata/sterling/lamela/fabregas/albrighton
    Rooney/Jovetic/Costa

    No money in the bank

If I need to make changes after week 1:
    1) Fab>Siggy (3m)- based on fixtures I think mata is a hold
    2)costa>Bony (2m)

4pt hit to then strengthen DEF most likely debuchy/F.luis leaving 1.5/1m for wiggle room.

    Thoughts?

Food for thought/discussion here. I ran FFS's projections through an optimization model for a 3-4-3, here is what it spit out for a starting 11.

    Using next six games projections:
GK: 9m spent however you like
DEF: Vertonghen Evans Cline (+8.5 on two more)
MID: Hazard Ramsey Eriksen Tadic (+ another at 4.5)
    FOR: Rooney Pelle Lukaku

    Using full year projections:
GK: 9m spent however you like
DEF: Baines Koscielny Vertonghen (+8.5 on two more)
MID: Hazard Eriksen Tadic Mirallas (+ another at 4.5)
    FOR: Sturridge Lukaku Nugent

Obviously many weaknesses with this approach, but interesting food for thought.

I want to start with Luis, as the main nailed defender for the best defence in the league

From there, I dont know where to go, do I go with 2 cheap rotation home away pairs?

Do I go with another big defender and 3 cheapies that rotate for the third spot?

Or do I go with 2 very decent players, and 2 more to rotate for a place, when one of the main 3 is playing a top team?

Or do I just go template, or something else completely? comments please!

    Begovic krul

    Shaw vertonghen clyne marriapa wisdom

    Mata cesc. Sanchez. Siggy. Albrighton

    Rooney dzeko Austin

Not sure about wisdom but I'm hoping he plays most games. Lacking a Chelsea defender but can change vertonghen if necessary but tbh I think vertonghen is great value. Main issues are is clyne worth 5m and is Austin worth a punt. Ward prowse also someone I'm considering. Is he worth it. Rotates well with austin

    Hi!
    Welcome everyone!
    Please RTM:

    Krul - Foster
    F. Luis - Smalling/ Evans (to be decided) - N. Taylor - Simpson - Cameron
    Sanchez - Fabregas - Siggy - Sterling/ Gerrard (tbd) - Valencia/ A. Young (tbd)
    Rooney - Dzeko/ Jovetić (tbd) - Jelavić

Budget left: 0.5-1.5m (depending on version)

Alternatively, I'm considering Mata and Henderson instead of Gerrard/ Sterling and Valencia/ Young.

    Any thoughts welcome!
    Thanks

Definitely Sterling over Gerrard, Smalling or Evans doesn't really matter, Valencia/Young should just be whoever is starting and the same or Dzeko/Jovetic. If you can work Mata in then he should be a great pick with the easy early fixtures. Personally I would pick him ahead of Fabregas.
      Looks good overall.

        Thanks, man!
A question: why are you sure about Sterling over Gerrard? I love the former's game, but Gerrard is FPL gold with all the penalties Liverpool get (not to mention that Gerrard does free kicks and corners too). Would be great to hear your thoughts!
As for Valencia/ Young and the City strikers - that's the plan 🙂
As for Fabregas - wouldn't the team lack some of Chelsea's offensive potential (esp. considering their favourable fixtures) if I had neither Fabs nor Hazard?

Gerrard does well from set pieces but that is his only attacking potential as he sits so deep now and he will be even deeper this season when the fullbacks have more license to bomb forwards. Now that Suarez is gone Liverpool will get a lot less set piece chances so that should reduce Gerrards assists. Also last season Skrtel scored a ridiculous amount from set pieces but odds are, he will be dropped for a partnership of Sakho and Lovren so that should reduce Gerrard again. Also as he gets older Gerrard will be subbed off a bit more, especially with Can signing to provide more options.
Also I think this could be Sterlings breakout year (even more so than last year) based on how he finished the season and the fact that Suarez is gone meaning it will no longer be pass it to Suarez all the time. He has been incredible is pre season and is likely to be given a chance to roam wherever he wants to be with the structure being provided by others.
Also I don't believe in coverage of big teams attacking wise because you can't guarantee certain players will be involved. United are going to start the season very quickly and score a lot of goals against bad team because LVG is ruthless and doesn't stop at 1-0 like Mourinho does. Chelsea will score a few more than last season but United should outscore them, especially early on given the easy fixtures.

    RMT
    Team Value - 98.5m

    De Gea - Krul
    F.Luis - Debuchy - Cameron - Mariappa - Collins/Ferdinand
    Mata - Eriksen/Lamela - De Jong - Shelvey - Tiote/Albrighton
    Rooney - Costa - Adebayor/Dzeko

Considering dropping De Jong and getting both Eriksen and Lamela. Also thinking about Siggy in for Shelvey assuming I can still afford it, a want a Swansea midfielder to rotate with Cameron. I will change any player who is not starting consistently.
I would also like B.Davies and Shaw in defence but can't see how to work them in, maybe Davies instead of Debuchy?
    Any suggestions would be good.

      Too much on keepers imo
      Siggy >shelvey
Shaw would be better than debuchy because of fixtures
De Jong is not for me.
Forwards look good. I would get dzeko
Wouldn't go double mids with spurs. Ramsey or Sanchez would be good

Definitely can't afford Sanchez. I probably won't double up in Spurs mids, will just pick whichever is playing at number 10. I could swap De Jong to Sterling on my current budget but then I will have no cash to improve my 3 rotation defenders if any are not nailed on.
Also I already have 3 United players so unless I drop DDG and get someone else, I can't put in a defender. I really don't like doubling up on defenders from any club, even Chelsea.

      Hi!
Keepers: would get a cheaper one instead of DDG
Defenders: Debuchy to MU 5.5 perhaps? Others are good, though I'm not sure how nailed is Mariappa
Mids: you're right: Siggy instead of Shelvey and def. not Tiote
      Attack: Looks really good

Overall: once you downgrade DDG you'll be able to:
      - get Siggy for Shelvey
      - get Snodgrass/ Henderson/ Puncheon/ Arnautovic for Tiote/ Albrighton

Shaw is not nailed (and might have some minor injury); wouldn't double up on Spurs

Thanks, I am happy with one 4.5m mid because all he will do is sit on the bench all the time and possible get 2 points if a few games get rearranged. Most people either have a 4m defender they never play or a 4.5m midfielder because it just frees up funds.
I like De Gea and I definitely want 3 United players to start the season given the fixtures and no Europe. Rooney and Mata are the only non defenders I will consider due to rotation, price or sitting too deep so I have to pick 1 defensive player. I am left between Shaw, a centre back and DDG. I think I will stick with De Gea for now and swap him to Lloris after about 8 weeks when the fixtures turn around.
        Appreciate the advice.

He's got an eye for goal, monopolises set pieces, has a proven FPL track record, is guaranteed minutes & to round it all off, is cheap, so he facilitates getting big hitting mids/fwds into play.

He's an interesting prospect. I'm thinking of going with him as a 1 week punt for GW1, & then replace him w/Siggy for Swansea's good fixs... but then I think it's just burning up a transfer that Henderson really needs to hit double figures vs. Southampton to justify. But Rodgers has been talking him up in preseason & there was some talk about him either getting a more advanced role, or working on his shooting etc.

He's definitely up there with Siggy as the pick of the 6.0 mids imo.

I know the Sanchez vs. Ramsey debate continues to rumble - my tuppence is I think it could take Sanchez a few games to get up & running & find his feet. Whereas Ramsey I'm sure will pick up against CPL where he left off last year.

Ideal scenario is a quiet-ish first 3 games for Sanchez until the International break... by GW4 if he hasn't set the world alight you can bank on his price being closer to 10.0, or even 9.9/9.8... that would then be the time to look at getting him in if his form picks up.

Obviously the counter-side is he blasts in a hatty vs. Palace & all bets are off.

    I'm going with Rambo fwiw, at 9.0, I think he's still a a bargain.

True dat. But I really like the balance & flexibility a midfield of 3x 9m's, a 10m & a 6m gives to the rest of the squad.

And I really want Fabregas & Hazard (Fab = 1.5 cheaper than Costa)
And I really want to get in early on Juan Mata
So it just doesn't leave any room for Sanchez, or Yaya.

If Sanchez & Yaya tear it up GW1 I am in deep sh*t. But if they don't... big price falls will soon follow & things will be looking good 🙂

Ok first RMT as I want honest consideration of latest draft.....will which change multiple times before now and deadline.

    Begovic (Given)
    Luis, Baird, O'Shea (Duff,STaylor)
    Fabregas, Sanchez, Sterling, Mata, Tadic
    Rooney, Jovetic (Bojan)

Keeper and Midfield haven't changed so this is what I know I want to start with. Tadic is my punt which I want to keep in. Sanchez as easier to drop than get in.

    Concerns are:
    Rooney or Costa
Defence - feel Chelsea def is needed, but at what cost, would prefer Cahill to Luis but cant afford
Jovetic - need Man City cover but hate rotation risk.
Bojan - had Austin until today as 3rd striker (benched waiting for Joveyic not to play)

    Cheers

      I would say

      Sanchez & Sterling -> Ramsey & Hazard
      Bojan->4.5 bench fodder
Jovetic -> either Dzeko (leaves 0.5) or Remy (leaves (1.5)

      O'Shea -> Caulker/Davies/Clyne (if going with Dzeko)
      If going with Remy... spend 1.5m to upgrade your 4x 4.0ms to either a 5.0m & 4.5, 3x 4.5m's, or 1x5.5m

I haven't got a clue really though, your team could end up top scoring team in GW1 for all I know!

Want to keep Sterling as only Liverpool cover and he is in form. Would do Fab to Haz and Sanchez to Ramsey...think Fab is going to play a bigger part at Chelsea and Sanchez is unknown but world cup shows form.

Think Jovetic and Dzeko will both start with one being dropped (or both rotated) for Aguero when fit. Pre-season points to Jovetic for me.

Will tinker that back line more....not convinced with Luis. I think I have £21M to play with there and have tried those combos already.
