With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen’s inclusion was reliant on his move to Manchester United, which now looks to have fallen through. Who should he replace him with?

He concedes Charles N’Zogbia is a huge punt in midfield. Is it a gamble too far? Alexis Sanchez is an insurance policy and he feels he can easily downgrade the Arsenal midfielder to his cheaper team mate Aaron Ramsey.

      no use getting Siggy and benching him, downgrade one of Hendo/Tadic/Siggy to a 4.5 and use the money to upgrade the others. Also Vlaar has only two good fixtures in the first ten, and Im not sure Upson is first choice

        Silva is a nailed on starter. That Man city team today was fringe players mostly. They are saving the big hitters for the real stuff!

            Ramsey all day long. He is going to pick up from where he left off and apart from Sanchez the only nailed on starter and probably the first on the team sheet.

              Silva is great and probably a stronger option than sterling IMO. If you can generate another 0.5 mil he should be your man.

                  Same for me. I have Ramsey, Mata, Fab and desperate to get Silva in there but have plumped at the mo for Dzeko as his ppm is better than Silva as an alternative

                      Agreed mate. Fabregas at 9M is a snip. There's just not enough spaces in my squad! Almost took a punt on Berahino kicking on this year, but Bojan's been strong in pre-season.

                        PS. The Sterling thing... I'm a Red... So maybe a little biased. I'm expecting him to almost be a second striker this year

                        I agree totally but early doors you need to see how 'pool get on without Saurez. Im sure they will be fine but he made the difference in occupying defenders to give space to sterling and sturridge. The question you've got to answer is will he outscore the alternatives regularly enough to justify his 8.5 tag?

                        Good point... I do hate the agonising over options pre-season. It's actually a relief when the season kicks off and your decisions are fixed (till you use your wild card! 🙂 )

      Realistically you aren't going to rotate Shelvey with any of those other attacking options regardless of the fixtures are you? So maybe settle for a 4.5 instead and invest the 1 mill.

      1 Mill could upgrade Fabregas for Hazard or better still Eriksen for Mata.

        Not a bad point actually. Although I'm not thinking about dropping any of those four. My usual tactic is to have a strong 4 midfielders, strong 2 up front, then alternative between 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 dependant on the fixtures. Thoughts? Or are you confident enough in Bojan you think I can play him every week?

          Mata is a must in my eyes. With a mid 4 including him you wont have the pressure on Bojan to perform every week but i think he will be a good bet. With another 9 mill midfielder you would always have the get out clause to downgrade that 9 mill to Siggerdson (dead ball duties) and upgrade Bojan to say Dezeko with minimal disruption if any. All about the plan B.

      A clean sheet is worth 4 pts and a goal for mid worth 5pts and add to that the potential of assists for mids and you'll see why nobody goes big on defence.

          Give it a go then. Will be interesting to see how it fares. Go with a 4-4-2 formation.
          Why have you saved 2m? 1m or 0.5m would be enough for upgrading later

        I agree. Have at least one attacking full back or scoring centre back but keeping it cheap early is the way to go. As you see teams hit the clean sheet track then start to snap up big hitters.

    Is it just me or are too many missing Man City cover? I'm desperate to get some cover just because no-one else seems to be looking at their midfielders. Granted Yaya is too expensive but Nasri, Siva, Navas are all viable alternatives or are they?

        I agree with the rotation but the Arsenal midfield is no different so are Sanchez, Ramsey, Carzorla etc safe too? Its a lottery and really starting to make me think about rotation as a bigger problem this season than in the past??

          You need a better 4th mid than Siggy or a better 3rd striker. So look at upgrading either Bojan or Siggy.
          You can get more money by downgrading Hazard to Fab and Debuchy to a 5m defender

    Quite like this. Sigurdsson will be this years Michu I reckon but he starts on the bench for the first game. Bench isn’t too bad and Ive got a bit of flexibility to move between a 3-5-3 and a 4-4-2.

            It's like the rotating goalkeepers. You never know when and where they will get clean sheets. I have tried going uber cheap before and it has failed everytime.

              Most FPL winners start with a very cheap defence. I believe it's optimal if done right.

        Cheers. Not a fan of this new look Swansea side, don't want to spend 8.5m on a Swansea striker who may now share his goals with Gomis.

        Also, I like going light at the back for the start of the season. Allows bandwagons to be brought in with ease. Funds will probably be raised then so I can strengthen the defence. It's only temp.

        Good attacking threat. In a defensive side. His fixtures match nicely with my other defenders.

        Also if I do need to play him then, Sunderland have a knack of picking up CSs against the big sides.

      All 3 of Luis, Ivanovic and Azpilicueta have been rotated equally in preseason.

      I think Luis is the safest as he is way more attacking than Azpi at LB and since our start is easy - we don't need a defensive fullback like Azpilicueta. He is fully fresh too.

      Neither. Will share game time and that's not something I'd want to spend 6m on when you can have a guaranteed starter in Vertonghen, Mertesacker or the like.

      Really not a fan of 1 gk only. Why not buy luis over cahill (luis will start trust me) and then bring in mannone (will rotate with beg)? Other that without seeing your 5th mid looks a tasty team.
