With just six days remaining until the 2014/15 season gets up and running, City and Arsenal go head-to-head for the Community Shield this afternoon. As expected, both side’s starting line-ups have been heavily influenced by a lack of pre-season action for a number of World Cup stars, though Arsene Wenger hands all three of his main summer signings competitive debuts:

Man City Starting XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal Starting XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Sanogo

For City, Stevan Jovetic has the chance to continue the form which has harvested five goals over the summer so far. The Montenegro international is partnered by Edin Dzeko up top and, whilst the likes of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure also make the XI, Arsenal will be optimistic of taking advantage of an experimental City backline, which sees Gael Clichy fielded as a right-back once again and Aleks Kolarov patrolling the left.

Arsene Wenger names Mathieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Aaron Ramsey owners will be buoyed by what appears to be a move to the attacking midfield three alongside Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere sitting in front of the defence. Up front, Sanchez’ role out wide means Yaya Sanogo gets the nod after his four-goal demolition of Benfica in last week’s Emirates Cup, with Olivier Giroud warming the bench again.

On the Costa vs Hazard debate, here is the reason why I think Hazard is a better choice -

    1. Hazard is 10 against Costa's 10.5
    2. Hazard is on pens (maybe Costa is number 2 with Lamps and Luiz gone)
    3. Pre season, Costa has been subbed for the Drog almost every game. I reckon this might happen more often especially when Chelsea are in front.
    4. Costa definitely seems to have a temper and I wont be surprised if he picks up a few reds this season.
    5. The BPS system this season does favor mids with dribbling and crossing ability and Hazard is amongst the best in the league.
    6. I do think Torres will leave for Wolfsburg/Athletico & Chelsea might be in for another striker who could eat into Costa's playing time.
    7. Lastly, both the players have had a horror WC, but I think Hazard has more to prove than Costa.

    Anyone agree/disagree?

      1. Costa could rise Hazard could drop
      2. Hazard could be off the pitch allowing Costa to score a few, or Hazard could miss a few and Costa take them off him
      3. Hazard has barely played pre season Costa has played more
      4. Hazard ball boy incident remember this?
      5. Ok
      6. Chelsea have more midfield options than striker options
      7. Spain going out in the group stage as current world champions hmm think Costa has more to prove

I disagree, Hazard wasn't essential by the end of last season and I'm not sure that will change,
His form has dipped and I think everything will go through Costa in the end.
Personally I've both in fact I feel 3 Chelsea is essential and because of their premium priced it will be easy to move them on if performances fail to translate into points.

Sounds like you're trying to justify not having him tbh, I'm going in with both, think Costa will score well and justify his price tag (not a chelsea fan!)

What about Fabregas in comparison also? Even cheaper and Mourinho saying he'll play a "number 7 role" which he considers "between the 6 role and 8 role" therefore he wont be deep lying always. On top of this, potential free kick and corner duties which with Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic and Costa could be successful, gives him opportunities for assists, not to mention assists to Costa and Hazard in open play anyway.

Tough choice between the 3, I'm going Fab with 2 Chelsea defenders!

Costa will score more goals than Hazard. Both will be prolific though in terms of bagging the points. Great opening fixtures. If someone else is needed it is easier to downgrade rather than upgrade.

        But

        a) Hazard's goal are worth more (though Costa gets significantly more BPS for scoring)

        b) Hazard on pens

        c) Hazard more likely to assist

        d) Hazard likely to be a BPS favourite due to his dribbling

Alexis seems to be "essential". Why I don't know. Ramsey & Co could offer better value.

      Same with Costa.

Hazard is proven - 202 and 190 pts in two seasons. Without a decent striker.

It could only get better, with the most fouled striker in la liga from net season next to him. Lams gone, so no sharing of penalties.

Once Sturridge and Kun racks up the points I bet all will sell Costa.

Neither are bargains. Schurlle could be if it wasn't for the abundance of talent in Chelsea's midfield, but he won't play enough to justify getting him unless there are a couple of injuries. Arnie is a decent choice, but I can't see him rising too much in price. Maybe a 6-8 of both goals and assists a year player.

So what did we learn from today's game?

That it's both safer and wiser to choose Ramsey over Sanchez?
That Giroud is still a decent pick despite his lack of fitness?
That Dzeko is the behind Jovetic since the latter got 90 mins? But will he play behind Aguero or will Aguero play behind Dzeko next weekend?
That several City players is lacking fitness, but do we dare to go without?

Today's game was going to help me pick either Ramsey/Sanchez and either Dzeko/Jovetic/Silva, but everything is still up in the air....

          ah that changes things

A then though I think B has better potential as Bego will likely get more saves that DDG and Evans is a bigger goal threat that Wilson (who is also less nailed)

Hey guys, I've done none of my own research & am incapable of clicking the *Preseason* tab so can you please:

    RMT, again?
(I mean I have changed one midfielder since I last posted it 17 minutes ago but, I had to repost it because it *got lost* on the bottom of the last page)

Tell me who the best £4.5mil mid is?

Provide me with a 2/3/4 & 5-way rotation spread sheet?

Give me a rundown of every starting line-up from the weekend's friendlies & what the sub patterns mean to my team specifically?

Give me an opinion on two equally priced players who by season's end will wind up within 10pts of each other? (Note: Whoever you suggest will be wrong but, thanks for nothing ahead of time.)

Let me know if *I'm crazy* for taking a *punt* on some irrelevant fantasy prospect from a soon to be relegated side?

Oh yeah last thing, & even though I could pull up the ownership %'s on the official FPL site; how many of you are going for that guy, from that team, who's sorta marginal & might pay off but, probably won't, because I want to justify taking him / not taking him from only three people's comments here in the dugout discussion?

Luis is playing his *true* position & there aren't any other *offical* LBs on the squad.
This means *technically* Ivan & Azp are fighting for time at RB.

That said, with Ivan being so versatile (he's at home in a CB role too) I haven't a clue what will happen in the long term?

Although, does it really matter if you take one or the other?
They'll each get a rest at some point, right?
Meh, so you only get 17 & not 18 CS...
Also, who's to say the game your guy rests is a game where they keep a CS?
