With just six days remaining until the 2014/15 season gets up and running, City and Arsenal go head-to-head for the Community Shield this afternoon. As expected, both side’s starting line-ups have been heavily influenced by a lack of pre-season action for a number of World Cup stars, though Arsene Wenger hands all three of his main summer signings competitive debuts:

Man City Starting XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal Starting XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Sanogo

For City, Stevan Jovetic has the chance to continue the form which has harvested five goals over the summer so far. The Montenegro international is partnered by Edin Dzeko up top and, whilst the likes of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure also make the XI, Arsenal will be optimistic of taking advantage of an experimental City backline, which sees Gael Clichy fielded as a right-back once again and Aleks Kolarov patrolling the left.

Arsene Wenger names Mathieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Aaron Ramsey owners will be buoyed by what appears to be a move to the attacking midfield three alongside Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere sitting in front of the defence. Up front, Sanchez’ role out wide means Yaya Sanogo gets the nod after his four-goal demolition of Benfica in last week’s Emirates Cup, with Olivier Giroud warming the bench again.

Ramsey is essential (this isn't a joke). Sanchez may be worth 10.5 at some stage, but not right now. City's backup defenders are terrible.

Ramsey still getting forward alot even though he's in the double pivot? Sanchez not worth the initial outlay? Giroud an option still?

Ramsey was in the hole, Wilsh and Arteta played pivots, Sanchez looked rusty gave the ball away way too much, Giroud scored a belter and 8.5 i guess he's better than Jovetic/Dzeko.

cheers for all comments guys, the extra 1.5m saved by going Ramsey instead of Sanchez makes a huge difference to my team. I'm still a big fan of Giroud getting consistent points, good value in 8.5

Going off the Jovetic pick so I have 12.5m for the last 2 picks, 1 midfielder and 1 striker.

Would doubling up on Spurs midfielders be too much? (Already have Eriksen)

    Lamela & Zamora

At the moment I have Albrighton & Jovetic.

No such thing as coverage, so I don't see why not. I've been sceptical about Lamela, but I'm finally seeing that the new manager should be able to do wonders for him. Not to mention that he barely got a kick last season, so it's not as if he had any opportunity to prove how good he actually is. Quite a few @ the Tottenham midfield double.

Not me. What I like about Siggy is we should get 3 weeks before anyone will consider selling - and I like that security early on in the season. If after those 3 weeks he hasn't lived up to expectations, then it's probably better to join everyone in offloading him - but we 'may' be in to 2 transfer territory here, so it's not a big deal.

If you were to gamble, who would you go for on right mid? I am assuming its pretty much Schurrle's to lose?

      Team at the min is..

Krul (Elliott - just in case Krul gets injured)
      Davies, Jones, Debuchy (Hutton, Cameron)
      Mata, Ramsey, Hazard, Schurrle, (Brady)
      Bojan, Costa, Rooney

So Schurrle starting is a must for me at the min!

      Anyone care to RMT?

Possible 4.5 defenders other than Cameron (don't want Vlaar as have Hutoon from Villa) and any info on Davies for Spurs would be much appreciated.

Schurrle's to lose. Agree 100% looked sharp 2 days ago. And another run out. Clearly one player Jose keen to get match ready.

Nice team. Davis maybe over Brady, as Brady more rotation prone now and Southampton not signing many yet (oddly). Also different 4.5 for Cameron until he nails down a spot

Couple of quick changes based on the comments received and Ive now got a 3-5-2

Krul (Elliott - just in case Krul gets injured)
Chambers(til GW3 probably), Jones, Debuchy (Hutton, Moore)
          Mata, Ramsey, Hazard, Schurrle, Henderson
          Costa, Rooney, (Bojan)

Prob leave it at that til Friday when it'll be changed again no doubt.

I have Siggy but very tempted by Hendo. Hendo been told to be more attacking this year as no Suarez with 30+ goals. Siggy on set pieces but in a less attacking side. If you have no other LFC forward cover then I would go Henderson.

I'm finding this whole City not investable thing ridiculous.

The only starters Arsenal were missing were Mertesacker and Ozil, City had Kompany, Aguero, Demichelis, Fernandinho missing, and for some reason Pelle benched Hart & Silva (fitness?). Either way completely different mentality for City next week, they'll go in all guns blazing.

Monreal played CB for a while. Acting like we weren't missing people. Chambers was our most expensive CB.

City underwhelmed on all counts. They'll batter the Toon but I see them in third this year.

And Giroud didn't start, and Walcott is out, and Koscielny only played 45 mins, and Sanchez only played 45 mins. Fernando could easily oust Fernandinho.

Yes, I did. Nastasic was first choice under Mancini when they finished with the most clean sheets in season. They had their first choice left back playing, they had Hart available, Willy was favoured. Man Citydid nothing against 2 centre backs who have both been playing full back. It obviously wasn't their stongest team, but they still had a strong team out. Arsenal played well, for some reason people are very bitter.

City were way worse off than you were, face it. And tbh it's irrelevant to the point I'm making - City will not play like that next week.

Bartley isn't certain but he did start in the last match though. He had an absolute nightmare of a day. Swansea are looking at bringing in a new CB before Man U and I hope they do. If you're looking at a cheap option for Swansea Defence Taylor would be your best bet imo.

As Man City slowly transformed into it's reserve team today it would appear to me that Dzeko is ahead of Jovetic in the pecking order. But you know what you're going to get with Dzeko - he'll play but it's unlikely it'll be for 90 mins.

also seems impossible to fit a City mid given the other options so Dzeko picks himself for now.

unless you go 4 premium mids and a cheapie striker

Just so everyone knows, Ramsey doesn't play 'Number 10'.
He plays box to box and has an instinctive timing of his runs and composure which is why he is scoring & assisting a lot, which wont stop.

Fyi, he's always played box to box and it won't disrupt his returns in fpl.

Im not normally one who believes you can have your team finished so early but I'm really close i feel

My main concern is Azpi or Luis to pick

      DDG - Gilks
Azpi, Clyne, ferdinand, (hutton, Vaan (or oshea if hes injured)
      Silva, Ramsey, Mata, Sterling (marney)
      Rooney, Costa, Bojan
