The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

    Yaya currently has an ownership of about 21% but i'm not seeing him in many RMTs on here. I'm sure he's (very) over priced and there's much better value out there but will he outscore his 9m counterparts by enough to justify the purchase?

    I'm considering the following options to complete my midfield:

    a) Yaya + Henderson/Siggy +1M
    b) Sterling + Silva +0.5M
    c) Sterling + Mata +0.5M
    d) Mata + Silva

    Ignoring team coverage and leftover lolly in teh bank, who will score more over the season?

      I think that is extremely hard to pick who will score the most.

      A could be best if Yaya has had his cake and eaten it too.

      But all other options are attractive!

      Leaning toward C and I don't know why.

    Same dilemma every season. Go for an all round good side with a decent bench. Or a quality starting 11 with weak subs. The latter is most tempting but players get injuries/suspensions/out of form/out of favour. Having said that i don't want points on the bench either.

      Really not a fan of the Bent pick. He used to be good, he's not anymore. I think you've realistically got to reduce the midfield an bump him up to at least a £6m.

    This is the complete opposite of what you're likely to want in your benched midfielders. Unreliable for a starting spot, or even a place on the bench.

      Some punts but expensive ones which I personally don't like. Silva and Coutinho are expensive compared to those with good fixtures (Mata)

        Thanks. I'd rather have presence in Man City and Liverpool attacks than double-up on Mata + Rooney. So it would come down to Fabregas or Mata for me. It's close.

      Coutinho is a punt, maybe downgrade him to Puncheon and upgrade your forward? If you want additional money to upgrade your defence, you can have Sterling or maybe Henderson in for Cesc and upgrade Van Aanholt and/or your striker.

      Wisdom is the better option in 4.0 defenders, FYI.

      I don't know much about Cabella Tadic so can't help you there.

      Nugent is prbably is the best out of the three long term as he's the central striker and is on pens. But fixtures are dire - EVE, che, ARS, sto, MUN. A lot is unknown early in the season, you have to focus on fixture players IMO.
      Campbell could be rotated with Chamakh, Gayle and Murray all competing.
      Bojan looks decent for Stoke, could be a gamble weighting him on preseason form but I like stokes fixtures best of the three.

      That midfield's a bit unconventional. By all means go for it if you think those players will start nicely, but I would downgrade Yaya and upgrade Barkley personally, perhaps to Silva and Ramsey.

        I know but it feels wrong taking Yaya out.

        Nasri scored more than Silva too, is injured less and costs £8.5m instead of £9. But neither has Yaya's potential and I fear that Yaya will still be trolling everyone on here this season.

        My other problem is I want to keep Stevie G. Pens, corners and set pieces, I think he's greatly overlooked.

        May just have one £5.5m def and keep Yaya, Rambo, Gerrard and Mata in my MF.

        thought abt that but im thinking chelsea has pretty manageable starting fixtures and liverpool has pretty tough run at the start..

    I think it looks pretty good in all honesty. If you think Eriksen will outperform Sterling, go for it. Just note Eriksen is on the wing and Lamela is in the hole. Don't know whether Eriksen performs best there or not. I'm going with Sterling personally.

      Great reply, thanks Siren. With rumours of ward being injured, i've decided to get sterling too. Liverpool being the attacking machine that they are i'm sure it'll be worth it. And if Eriksen does perform it'll be easy to switch to him. Thanks again.
