The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

      Ive never been a fan of two defenders from one team although I have seen it pay massive dividends in the past. Id be tempted to use Dzeko\Courtinho instead of Jovetic\Sterling

        Yeah, it's really boom/bust. I simply can't ignore Mourinho D against two inferior frontlines though.

        As for your second sentence, form is everything.

      I like the two Chelsea defenders, but downgrade one to Azpi/Luis and upgrade one of the 4.0s to PvA/Coloccini etc. Also personally id go Jovetic to Dzeko as unsure about his playtime, Pellegrini seems to fancy pairing Dzeko with Aguero

    Do a lot of comment reading on this site and not a lot of posting, The more reading i do the more i change back and forth between players lol. So thought maybe a RMT might help me out.

    De Gea / Gilks
    Caulker / PVA / Hutton / Cahill / Taylor
    Ramsey / young / fab / tadic / siggy
    Rooney / Costa / Jovetic

    I feel no Liverpool attacking coverage might do me damage and i will have a tough decision in benching 1 of my mids or fowards in the first few game weeks but i just like them all even the punts, i also like the idea if one of my punts say young or jovetic isn't playing as much as id like them in gw1 it gives me another option to fill in for them gw2 allowing me to see there situation or even enough time to get a 2nd free transfer to free up funds if i want to upgrade them without a hit, any thoughts on this? So a rating and any sugestions are really appreciated. Thanks

      You're tying too much value up on your bench Conor, IMO. Downgrade one to a 4.5 so you can improve the defence. As it stands I'd give it 6.5/10. 7 at a push.

    Set up a draft league with four of my mates. Just had the draft. Of course draw number five and got to pick last... This is what i ended up with:

    Ward Azpi Lovren Debuchy Van Aanholt

    Thoughts? I'm thinking it could be worse... No Ars attack is a worry though.

      Azpi is a risk. I also don't know about Lovren to start with, but if you think Liverpool will keep several clean sheets, go for it.

      Rest of the team is perfectly fine. You could downgrade Azpi, Lovren or Debuchy and pick up Ramsey if you're worried.

    Hey guys,

    Need opinions on my team

    Begovic - (myhill)

    Debuchy - Vlaar - Bruce - Terry - (Ferdinand)

    Ramsey - Hazard - Mata - (Siggy) - (Ward Prowse)

    Costa - Rooney - Steven Fletcher

    Im thinking Van Aanholt in for one of the defenders, replacing Ward Prowse, possible Darren Fletcher Wildcard? Captained them alot in preseason. Steven Fletcher is on form and seems good value to me.

          Wisdom not nailed long term at the mo. Moore is 4. Marriappa would fit well in that defence unless they sign a replacement.

      Ok, made a couple of tweaks to the team I posted yesterday:

      2M in the bank for Giroud -> Costa or Fab -> Sanchez/Hazard or Rooney -> RvP

      Is anyone else starting the season with money in the bank or should I just use it all and not worry about transfers?

      You could have only shown the replaced players. I don't like the chances of Cameron starting, but I also personally don't like Lovren's fixtures either. Consider alternatives to both. For what there is here, B.

          Moore and possibly Bartley if swans don't sign a replacement.
          Marney for lamps. Possibly albrighton if he's not out long. Waiting on injury news for him at the mo. Albrighton is the better pick.

      I like it, mostly because it's so similar to my own team.

      Barton would be my only concern as I said down there, but a punt is a punt, could go either way!

      I looked at a keeper rotation, but decided DDG & a 4m benchwarmer (for the same price as Begovic/Krul) was a safer bet. Since you have 3 Mancs how about Szczesny/4.0 to get some Arsenal coverage at the back?

    First time user of site and have been blown away by the science of fantasy football and all the thought that goes into huge thanks to creators and contributors - hoping this season I can improve rather than using gut feel with my team! After a week of digesting information from all over the site and the really valuable comments on players finally came to picking my team – would love to get some opinons if could RMT approval/disapproval on picks or suggested replacements. Appreciate any help!

      I dont mind that mate, jutkie is a cheeky shout but is a good punt for a first sub. Maybe downgrade clyne to 4.5m to give you 0.5 if you need to upgrade. Austin is another good shout but not sure with Jutkie and austin that upfront is too light

      I dont like it, to be honest. I think there is too much points in strikers, esp as they are more predictable captaincy options. I would rethink the balance.

      I'm sure you know of the risks with Bojan, but otherwise solid. I'd like a bigger midfield five with him as a striker though.

      Also, people will warn you off Lovren but I'm rolling with him too 😎

      I think you might be spending a bit too much on your defence to not have a Chelsea defender. It's a very balanced squad, however I think the best Chelsea options from an attacking point of view would be one of Hazard or Costa, not Fabregas. That said the 1/1.5m has been invested wisely elsewhere. I would maybe hold off on Lovren until GW4. Liverpool have two tough games in the opening three fixtures.

        Very sound advice - thank you. I understand the Lovren situation, but as a pool supporter it is very hard to resist.

        I had Hazard in there until today, but the 1m difference means Lovren goes to a (which isn't that bad) and I'm worried about match fitness (is that bad with Mourinho's rotation policy).
