The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

    Concerns:
    Luis, rotation risk? Defense too cheap, though Im planning on playing Wisdom GW1, then Naylor in GW2 and GW3, to reasess.
    Lack of Sterling / Sturridge, is Hendo really good value pick? Benching a 6M midfielder every week is also a concern..not very keen on getting rid of Siggy though.

    Jovetic will do good in the first few weeks yes? 🙂

      I wouldn't risk Luis. Isla for QPR will likely play in mid and is cheap. On loan from Juventus.

      I want Siggy. Pretty good team.

    First ever post. Advice please for RMT:

    Begovic
    Debuchy Isla Lovren
    Coutinho Ramsey Eriksen Fabregas Mata
    Costa Jovetic

    Subs Myhill Vlaar N Taylor Zamora

    Thinking behind this is:

    - Begovic is cheaper Stoke defensive option. Man Utd uncertainty and Everten tough opening games
    - Isla likely to play in midfield and go forward plus cheap
    - Coutinho likely to play in hole and Sterling on wing after recent Rodgers comments
    - Lamela looks good in hole but Eriksen takes free kicks and corners
    - Costa or Rooney?
    - Will Jovetic start?
    - N Taylor and Vlaar cheap look set to be regulars for Swansea and Villa
    - I know Zamora won't play

        I'm not certain but Redknapps recent formations suggest it and I could start N Taylor or Vlaar in GW1?

        Yeah thinking Shelvey for Eriksen and Rooney for Jovetic? But want Siggy.

      Begovic is a perfectly credible pick, but this isn't Pulis' Stoke and I don't personally see them as a fire-and-forget defensive option anymore. Isla should do well this year but I can't see him playing GW1, you may only get two decent fixtures out of him before GW7. No Rooney is a massive risk, and you know it. Cout over Sterling is another speculative selection. Eriksen is safer than Lamela. Jovetic should be safe for at least 3 weeks.

      My general feeling is that this side is more hope than expectation, it could work out but I think there's a danger of tryingvto be too clever here.

        Who is better to have instead of Begovic though considering I'm being greedy in mid?

          In my opinion it's best to rotate Krul and Foster or go for DDG as a fire-and-forget for 0.5 more.

              Interesting though JK. Usually the GK points are pretty close so thinking putting that extra 0.5m into mid or def?

            With Shaw now injured and an unfamiliar defence do you really think DDG is a solid option still?

              this^^ DDG is not a proven option......they might still be leaky and crap, best old DEF's gone, new boys in at deep end, Shaw missing. DDG a no no for me atm

          Kolarov and Jovetic. In my experience one tends to find a good home for a free transfer every week, planning them weeks ahead doesn't always work.

    I keep flipping back and fourth between two teams. The first being

    Foster/Myhill
    Gibbs, Luis, Taylor, / Hutton, Wisdom
    Sanchez, Sterling, Siggy, Young / Wanyama
    Sturridge, Rooney, Costa

    and this team

    Foster/Myhill
    Gibbs, Luis, Man U 5.5 , / Hutton, Wisdom
    Sanchez, Sterling, Coutinho, Young / Wanyama
    Giroud, Rooney, Costa

    So I guess my question is

    A) Sturridge, Siggy, N.Taylor
    or
    B) Giroud, Coutinho, Man Utd 5.5 CB

      Not sure about Young starting. Maybe change Sanchez for Hazard or Febregas and then upgrade Young to Ramsey.

      Maybe Giroud to Jovetic for first few games?

    -Kaboul has started alot of spurs games in pre season and they have good fixtures
    -I understand siggy might not do anything GW1 but id like to get him in now either way.
    -Not sure if I should downgard Austin and improve Siggy/Bench
