The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

        Cheers man, Yeah not too bothered about bench really until favourites emerge, always the early wildcard as well, but happy to chop and change 3 at the back to start with.

        I'll certainly take 9.5 and 8 out of ten haha 🙂

      Similar ish to mine (see above) but with a much stronger front 3 at the cost of a weaker bench not my cup of tea but sound enough.

          Downgrade Debuchy to Ward. Or you could go Chambers and swap Kelly in after GW1. Use that cash to upgrade Krul to Bego. Don't like Giroud. Not a lot of good options I know but I suppose Adebayor would net you a 2.5 there. (;

      Sold on Hendo over Siggy? Fixtures plus set pieces would put me in the Siggy camp but I understand differential appeal on Hendo. Also, I'm no longer sure on Mata, he was actually anonymous tonight, barely touched the ball, the 10 in that formation doesn't seem to get a lot of joy unless you're on the counter i.e. Sneijder was pretty much missing the whole world cup.

        Yeah pretty much, but only for GW 1, however, with United looking clearly vulnerable at the back, Siggy could get something, so if i started with him i guess it wouldn't be such a bad thing and saves me from using that as my free tranny.

          If Evans doesn't make it, then it'll probably be Blackett, or small chance Fletch in CB, either way, I think they are likely to be fairly shoddy at the back (coming from a United fan). There was notable amounts of space behind Reece James tonight, Feghouli drove into space there dangerously one or two times. On the flip side the goal was a set piece, and United controlled the game largely, but I do think they will be exposable. I'm not scared of starting with Siggy for that reason. I know City aren't a big buzz team right now, but no coverage for the team that won the league last season is a little controversial. I'd consider maybe Mata for Silva (also unpopular I know) or Giroud for Dzeko.

      If rocking the Krul and non playing keeper surely it makes more sense to go with Elliot, saves you a transfer is Krul doesn't play?

      Rest looks ok, Arsenal dont have the best fixtures so i'm not high on Debuchy for more than GW1, especially with Mert no back in the team and the CL qualifiers flying around. Why not take a 1 week Chambers for 4.5, use the extra 1.0 mil saved to play Terry or Cahill over Lovren given the fixtures early doors?

      Rest looks good, should do well...

          I'm of the opinion that Terry is nailed for the first 6-10 weeks (injuries aside).

          3. no longer plays for england (fatigue over international break)

        Agreed with above. He'll probably get great returns but that still won't warrant his price.

        Young is a risk. Great pre season but I think Valencia will be first choice.

          Just changed to Jarvis. Rotates well with mutch and bojan to get 2 out of 3 a week.

          With baines he is 7.0 and will get 170 points at least if he stays fit. If someone offered you that return for a midfielder you'd take it straight away so why not a defender. I don't see why he doesn't warrant the price because he is a defnder

    5th mid is my major concern atm as Isgrove wont be playing much after the first few gws imo.

      Ahhh i see it now mate, yep, looks good, only ones i'm iffy about is Young and Jovetic, but can understand the reasons for picking each, Young could pay off big time to start with.

      Got me thinking Giroud > Jovetic now haha.

        Follow you own instincts mate, then if they come off you can feel good about it.

        Young has been bossing the pre season and the thing about LVG is he'll play the most in form players regardless of who they are or who they are keeping out of the team. And at 5.5 with those fixtures he is hard to ignore imo.

        Jovetic is a punt, but I have two targets in mind below 8.0 should a transfer be required... Giroud may not start GW1 is my concern for him and I dont like Bony's GW1 fixture.

    What do people think to this? Had to take out Sturridge (gutted as I'm at the game on Sunday - head over heart though and saved me a lot of £)

    I'm pretty happy with strength all over the pitch and decent subs, what do you reckon?

      I'm probably in the minority with this one, but I really like Caulker. Great goal threat, has looked good in preseason, and Redknapp has beefed up QPR's back line mightily.

      I'd start again. Sches doesn't have great fixtures, myhill will drop in price. dustin and lovren have bad fixtures, shaw can be any other 5.5 UTD defender, upgrade noble and weimann at the expense of your defense. Help below please

      not conservative, just different which is good to see.

      Ditch Onouha for a 4.0 defender (Moore or Hutton perhaps) and consider using the 0.5 saved to bring in Mata as the Man U attacking threat from these opening fixtures is too good to ignore.

      Dunno about doubling down on the QPR attack. Mutch/Austin could both wind up being outstanding value but if QPR struggle, you've got two holes to fill in your attack.

      No hazard??
      Courtois not nailed on. Personally think he is but most say he isn't so you could end up with 0 there.

      WBA and villa are both crap so don't like that rotation.

      Midfield is very good but Boyd won't play. Maybe switch to marney.

      Attack speaks for itself.

          In my opinion. Not sure where he fits in and I think they have better options. Do you not rate hazard as a prospect?? Been doing everything to try and keep him.

      I'd rather have a cheap keeper combo and another elite defender instead of Wisdom/Hutton because of the long term nailed on issue, but it seems like you're pretty high on Courtouis so it could work out for you!

      8/10 strong team. Personally i don't like the rotation theory with the DEF, a bit risky for me. Spot on MID. Have a look at Jovetic over Dzeko. 0.5 cheaper, excellent pre season form, stood out for city against arsenal, and is nailed on early season due to the aguero negrado absences. Rmt above please!

    Rotating Sig & Naismith (until Jutk's fixtures offer greater point potential) with the option switching to a 5 man midfield, Clyne offers very good fixtures after the first game week and a lot of assist potential. Bartley will come in for chambers after Mert returns, or if Swansea sign a new CB then Naylor will be transferred for Chambers, and Bartley will eventually give way to Moore if the rumours of his playing potential are apparent in the opening fixtures.

    My main concerns is whether to have DDG or 2x 4.5's. I have chosen Young over Mata because as much as I try to, I cannot picture my team without one attacking player from City's outfit. With Valencia injured and Young's pre season form, he offers security of starts and could easily nudge Valencia off that right wing back spot with good form.

      Bardsley is pish, much better options at 5.0 and 4.5 imo (Ward, C Davies, PvA)

      Stick with DDG imo

      Rest looks ok (if Bardsley becomes a 4.5 bring in either Fletcher or Bojan {the FFS popluar punt} for Naimsmith)

        @BIGCHRISSO cheers mate, I have to admit Bojan against Villa at home is much more appealing considering Stoke smashed them twice last season, think i will make that change. Bardsley was only there because of the nice rotation with Swansea but that isn't much of an issue.

        Anyone else taking the risk of leaving Mata out? If i'm the only one then...may have to remove Silva

      Don't know about United's defense. Maybe you should double up on Chelsea, have you considered Courtouis? 😉

      Kidding, that team looks better to me, but if Chelsea run off a string of clean sheets to start the season you'll regret listening to me 😉

      Defnce is mid priced mess imo

      Everton and Arsenal fixtures are not great to start the year, rethink required here. Like the mids a lot, very good.

      Wickham? prefer Fletcher from Sunderland or get some extra funds by sorting the defence out and go with Diouf or Gomis

        Do I need to invest in some 6.0m-7.0m defenders in this case? i.e. Cahill, Ivanovic?

        Only reason Debuchy made the back 4 is I can see him assisting a few and Arsenal were solid at the weekend. Fair play on Everton though... but Jagielka always a steady scorer on previous years....

        Picked Wickham as a bit of a wildcard, he was sensational at the end of last season after his loan from the Championship.... Big gamble? Why did Fletcher score so few points last year?

          Fletcher was injured more than usual last season (he gets injured every year but when fit is a very good FPL points scorer going on points per 90 minutes played)

          You have a budget of 25 mil on your 5 defenders and will likely only play 3 each week correct?

          So what about something like this: 6.5 / 5.5 / 4.5 / 4.5 / 4.0? Pick 2 defender from stronger clubs who play evey week and a 3 way rotation for the remaining player?

          Also, your back up keepr should be Elliot if you have Krul and a 4.0. It will save a transfer if Krul misses a game
