QPR boss Harry Redknapp continue to strengthen his first-team squad for the season ahead with the loan acquisition of Mauricio Isla from Italian champions Juventus. The Chilean is the fourth player to arrive at Loftus Road this summer and follows Rio Ferdinand, Steven Caulker and Jordan Mutch to the club as Redknapp looks to prevent another drop down into the Championship:

After confirming the season-long deal via the R’s official website, Redknapp proceeded to talk up the 26-year-old’s prospects for the season ahead and reckons Isla will be a key figure for the London club:

“He’s a top player and we’re delighted to have him here. He showed his quality in the World Cup for Chile and it’s a great loan signing for us. He’s a versatile player, he’s full of energy. I’m confident he’ll be a really big asset for us this season.â€

Isla – who is believed to have turned down a number of offers to join up with QPR – was equally enthusiastic over the upcoming campaign:

“I am very happy to be here – this is the start of an exciting new adventure for me. Everybody knows that the Premier League is the greatest league in the world and the QPR proposal is very interesting and one I am very excited about. I hope this coming season is going to be great for both the club and myself. I will give 100 per-cent in every game to help QPR in the Premier League.â€

The History

Isla spent eight years in the Universidad Catolica youth system in his native Chile from 1999-2007. Starting off as a forward, he was converted into a defender but failed to play a single match for the club – instead, his displays in the 2007 FIFA Under 20 World Cup persuaded Italian outfit Udinese to hand Isla a five-year contract.

Afforded his Serie A debut in December 2007, Isla’s pace and stamina down the right flank quickly cemented his role as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation. A slow start to his career in the Italian top-flight produced just one assists over 42 league appearances in his first couple of campaigns before Isla served up six goals and 18 assists in his final 85 league matches before Juventus came calling in June 2012.

Over his two seasons with the “Old Ladyâ€, Isla failed to nail down a regular role. With Stephan Lichsteiner preferred on the right of Juventus’ 3-5-2, the Chilean was afforded just 18 league starts and 11 sub appearances and, over 47 matches in all competitions, chipped in with five assists.

On the international scene, Isla made his senior debut back in September 2007 and has proceeded to play 37 times for his country, including four appearances at Brazil 2014, and found the net on a couple of occasions.

The Prospects

It’s somewhat telling that a change in tactics over the summer has preceded the Chilean’s arrival. Redknapp utilised a 4-4-1-1 in the Championship last season, with the occasional switch to 4-4-2, but the R’s boss has rolled out a 3-4-1-2 in recent matches – given Isla’s familiarity with the system, the new boy should settle quicker in his new environment.

Whilst Isla is versatile enough to be fielded in defence and in the centre of the park, a role on the right of the four-man midfield looks tailor-made and immediately casts doubts over Danny Simpson’s game time for the season ahead. Classified as a defender across the Fantasy games, the Chilean looks poised to offer us an out of position option under Redknapp – earlier today, he was priced at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), mirroring the cost of fellow new boy Steven Caulker, who netted five goals for Cardiff last time around.

With Rio Ferdinand at 4.5 and looking nailed on, though, many may baulk at a potential price of 5.0, bearing in mind Redknapp’s side mustered just 16 clean sheets in the Championship last term. Isla’s attacking potential could more than atone for that, though; if he can bring his Udinese form, there’s every reason to be optimistic over a player who affords the R’s plenty of top-level experience in the upcoming campaign.

The opening schedule hands the R’s home fixtures against Hull, Sunderland and Stoke in the first five Gameweeks and affords Redknapp the chance to make Loftus Road a fortress for the season ahead. With the likes of Ferdinand and Caulker bringing a much-needed quality to the back-three, Isla’s raids down the right could become a familiar for R’s fans this term and he gets off the mark early, has the quality to persuade many to get on board.

Ah, well I'd still start Wisdom as he's more likely to get a clean sheet IF he plays. If he doesn't then Davies will make a fine sub.

So I take it that you're planning on playing the same team week in, week out? And none of those subs?

I'm not too sure currently, I'd probably look at starting the season with a team that shouldn't need too many changes, but start with one sub who could provide a rotation. So Wisdom would provide that rotation for me, in this case!

Midfield and Attack, I am quite confident on which type of player to pick, but defence is a tricky one to judge! I definitely wanted a United player, due to the brilliant fixtures they have at the beginning of the season, but the others I am a bit stuck on!

Have you any suggestions with regards to defence?

You're a Man U fan I assume? Jones is a good bet, hopefully he'll play further forward than in previous seasons. Tottenham don't have a great start, but then hardly anyone other than Man U do. Perhaps you can be tempted by Soton, Hull or Crystal Palace defence? They're a bit cheaper and can free up some pennies for improvements in other areas.

Can you be tempted by Herrera?

I am! Now we've offloaded some defenders, he should be a sure starter, which is good! I've provided an updated draft below, and Herrera, I can be tempted by! Who may you suggest swapping? 🙂

Nice looking midfield and attack, except Wanyama will be deep, especially not Schneiderlin is sulking.

Finally, if you definitely stick with you, then field Wisdom and bench Davies.

          That looks perfect!

I assume you'll be captaining Rooney. How do you play your game? Are you a fan of differential? Have you looked at Tadic on youtube? Could be this year's Michu.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying about only 3 players from any one team. Rooney, in my opinion, will have an absolute cracker, Mata likewise but the defence is looking a bit undecided so perhaps double up on Man U midfielders? That's a tough call to make though.

Well it's not so important at the start of the season but eventually you'll need to choose a player with lower ownership, or a player who isn't in your rival's team, that will get you the points that your mini league rivals won't get.

Think along the lines of getting in Ramsey last season when everyone else had Ozil. You need to study form, watch matches and have a huge amount of luck to uncover the gems.

I actually want to go for Dzeko but leave 2.0 in the bank to get one of Costa/Yaya if needed, but I know I won't end up leaving it there.

If Williams comes in at 4.5m I think that will solve my last problem, defense is currently:

    DDG | Gilks
Azpil | BDavies | Ward | van Aanholt | Duff

Azpil > Terry & Ward > Williams if he is 4.5m.

Williams isn't going to be nailed on.

He played the last friendly because Mariappa was injured, and he was totally rubbish by all accounts.

I'd go for Ward if I were you

hi guys, which of these back 5 do you fancy most?

    A) (Vert Clyne Moore) Caulker PVA

    B) (Vert Clyne Moore) Ward Rio

currently leaning towards A because of GW1 + those awesome caulker stats

      C) Ward & PVA

Sunderland have a good 1st gameweek fixture and then you would want Ward after that for his nice run.

Fancy Palace to have more CS than QPR.

        ofcourse they will.

But the attacking threat of caulker might get more points +makes him kinda fixture proof imo

I've got to have a punt, it's tradition 😀 I think I might go for Isgrove

“I was always a manager who was not afraid to bring new players in. Give them the space, the possibilities and the opportunities to come in.”

“I like him as a player because he’s fast, he can play one against one and he can create, which he has done very well. He’s young he can develop himself and I’m very happy with his performance from the past two weeks."

I agree with you. At 4.5 there's no harm. Would probably nail down a spot if he plays well

i've been considering it myself. he is definitely a good prospect but i think i'll just go for a nailed on 4.5 MF-er because i don't want to waste a transfer on getting him out if he doesnt play regularly

I don't have Pelle any more. Decided to play safe with Dzeko. I think City will destroy Newcastle.

        Team:

        Krelliot
Cameron - Mariappa - Clyne - Van Aanholt - Wisdom
        Hazard - Ramsey - Mata - Siggy - Isgrove
        Rooney - Sturridge - Dzeko

It looks like the separate RMT site is proving unworkable, despite all the moderators' hard work, due to the topic site being ignored by people who know full well where it is.

Any other FFS locations for sensible discussion, or should we just save it until the deadzone?

If people just ignore them if they are not in the RMT thread people will go to the RMT thread. It requires:

      1) Patience;
      2) People not to rate teams in here.

      If you watch this...

      http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x23bkj0_16-touches-vs-borussia-dortmund_travel

...you're mad not to have some Liverpool regardless of fixtures.

Why people think they will become crap just because Suarez is gone is beyond me, though it may be related to fans of other clubs 'hoping' they fail.
