There may be under a week left under the 2014/15 season gets underway but for many Fantasy managers, the midfield dilemma is yet to be resolved. In the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, in particular, the player price list has handed us numerous options to consider for our five-man midfields, with ten players coming in at 9.0 or over:

In this, our latest article for members, we take a look at four of the main contenders – Eden Hazard, Aaron Ramsey, Juan Mata and Raheem Sterling – currently on Fantasy radars.

Sterling has netted in two of his last four appearances and, after notching nine times last term, is backed by many to step up for Liverpool after Luis Suarez’ departure. Ramsey’s 10 goals and nine assists in just 23 appearances last season has catapulted the Welshman into the premium bracket at 9.0, with his strike in yesterday’s Community Shield handing us a timely reminder of his talents. Mata (9.0) has been one of Louis van Gaal’s star performers in the role in “the hole” in a new 3-4-1-2 formation, whilst the 10.0-priced Hazard, despite only returning to pre-season action last week, sits in 22% of squads ahead of fixtures against promoted pair Burnley and Leicester in his first two fixtures.

Casting an eye back to last season, then, we delve into the data and compare their respective displays. First up, we assess each player’s creativity and distribution.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Some advice please,

    A) Sterling and Bojan, or
    B) 5.5 MID and Giroud?

    Already got Ramsey, but no Liverpool cover.

    What do you guys think of a punt like this playing 352.

    Foster/Myhill

    Clyne Hangeland Van Aanholt Bartley Bruce

    Ramsey Fab Mata Sterling Sanchez

    Rooney Jovetic Wood

    Could swap sterling for Siggi and get one Elite defender.

      and to answer ur question, I'm still waiting for jerome williams to be added to the game. Although, in fairness, I expect him to be added at 4.5 and that will not be of any help for me.
      I'd take him at 4 and would not touch him at 5.
      But at 4.5 is a gamble cause Mariappa can always oust him out of the team. Especially now that we have an possible indication of why he has been left out of the squad so many times.

          The last two seasons of Dexter (7 and 8) are atrocious.

          The first 4 are addictive, humorous, dark, twisted and fascinating.

          Best thing to watch when they were on

            I'd say 6 and 8 were the real atrocities. I suppose my opinion of the series as a whole may have been tainted by those final seasons, but I'd still say that season 1 was the only one that was properly great. Watch Hannibal if you want to see a show about the psychology of a killer done well.

    Hiya fellas, had an FPL based draft tonight and ended up with a pretty strong team but if any top notch ballers decide to make a prem move in the next few weeks there may be the chance for me to strengthen even further. My two weakest mids are probably Cabella and De Jong and it'll be one of them I'll look to shift if someone turns up, question is who would you ditch?

    NB price is irrelevant in the draft game style but the single ownership basis of the game means that if I drop one they'll probably get picked up and be gone for good so it's not really a reversible decision.

      De Jong. More injury prone as you can't make transfers. You don't want someone that is gonna keep getting injured. Keep cabella.

        Cheers for the response. Was somewhat leaning that way anyway but given I have 2 injury reserve slots (can temporarily replace injured players with those left unpicked without risk of losing injured player when he comes back) I'm not sure. If I rephrased it as who do you think will have the higher points per game come the end of the season would you still say the same?

          Yeah. I really rate cabella. But I don't know much about de Jong so it is a bit biased maybe. Other think he is fantasy gold but cabella scored 14 goals last year in a league that is by no means easy.

    Edin Dzeko - has been in my team for a long time, but I'm not totally convinced why...

    1) Short pre-season and has scored/assisted 0 goals (I believe)

    2) Potential rotation risk with Jovetic/Aguero after GW1

    My decision comes down to:

    a) 4.0, Mata & Bojan
    b) JEvans, 4.5 & Dzeko

        Hazard is locked
        Ramsey & Eriksen are close to being locked
        Siggy looks great value

        Will either have to go super uber cheap in defence and get Mata over Siggy, or lose Dzeko for Bojan

        I think it's strong. I think Luis will be fine for starts, Debuchy is a cheap route into a strong Arsenal defence. Hazard, Mata and Ramsey are proven midfield talent, it just depends on where Van Gaal plays Mata, and it's worth having Costa because Chelsea's opening fixtures are great

      Silva - Yaya is not in his top form
      Fabregas - cheaper than Hazard and he will be in more positions to assist
      Roney - more goal chances, only true striker in MU until Van Persie and Welbeck are back
      Ramsey - Ozil is not in top form, he was given a week or two more to rest after a WC and A. Sanchez needs time to adapt to EPL
      Gerrard - he is on PK, on free kicks and he has more exp in EPL

      Turning and turning in the widening gyre
      The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
      Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
      Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
      The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
      The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
      The best lack all conviction, while the worst
      Are full of passionate intensity.

      Surely some revelation is at hand;
      Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
      The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
      When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
      Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
      A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
      A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
      Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
      Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

      The darkness drops again but now I know
      That twenty centuries of stony sleep
      Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
      And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
      Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

      It would only highlight how crap that troll's attacking stats were compared to these players. Aside from the conversion one, obviously 😉

    For those who missed it, I made a post on what players should be priced at, and which are best value here:

    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/08/11/scout-report-mauricio-isla/?hc_page=1#hc_comment_7828832

    The first spreadsheet isn't brilliant for accuracy, but outlines the few best options, where as the other one is best for close comparisons and is just better on the whole.

      It's really not that simple as points and price.

      Surely points per 90mins is more accurate?

        Not even close. Players like Jovetic and Shurrle would have warped totals.

        This takes into account the lack of starts.

      Same here. I've been wavering on Mata for a couple weeks...no longer...As of yesterday I'm keeping him. His score was good last year in a weird shaken up year. With stability this year he should be solid, and after 8 weeks we can reassess. Good luck.

            You can try to start with! I experimented by butchering my defence to get a front 7 of

            Cesc, Mata, Ramsey, Lamela,
            Rooney, Costa, Jovetic.

            That's a fair amount of strong players.

              But even with that, you'll still fear not having Sturridge, Sanchez, Sterling, Hazard, Yaya...

              Just get the best balance you can 🙂

      im considering having bojan as a non-rotator. bit risky but his fixtures are:
      AVL, hul, city, LEI, qpr, NEW, sun, SWA

      would open up a load of value elsewhere
