This evening’s Members article takes a look over the action in Sunday’s Community Shield showdown between Arsenal and City. Having assessed Alexis Sanchez’ display our lunchtime Technical Area post, we delve into the data to discover for any hints of form ahead of the weekend Gameweek 1 deadline.
Best forward priced 8.5 or under?
Open ControlsSo many got fooled by Lamela last year why are you getting fooled by him again. He had chances in the Prem and was awful in every single game he actually played.
Open ControlsHe played less than 4 full games, minute wise. I prefer Eriksen, but it seems foolish to discount Lamela just because he didn't perform in such a small sample size.
Open ControlsI tend to agree, very much a wait and see for me.
Open ControlsLamela with Pochy is different also with the new BPS he'll take on more opponents and he always goes for on target shots
Open ControlsIf he doesn't score or assist there will be no baps, regardless of dribbles and shots. I'm tempted, but waiting.
Open Controls
Unless you're looking for ultra flair it's gotta be Eriksen in that spot early doors. Switch to Lamela when he shows some form when the opposing team is actually trying and it's not just preseason fluff. That said, I do really rate Lamela and I think he will have a very good year.
Open Controlslol he played 303 minutes and had injuries, stupid to judge him by that. He's got a (better) manager who seems to have sorted his head out, he's looking confident, and playing well, and has had a full pre season with the team.
Open Controls*331
Open ControlsNot as stupid as judging based on how he looked in preseason.
Open ControlsYes because no one who does good in pre season ever does good in the season ahead. Let's all get the same 15 players who did good last season and be boring together.
Open ControlsMauro Boselli, who, unlike Lamela, actually scored a load of goals in preseason.
Open Controls
Did Eriksen perform under AVB? None of the creative midfielders were up to much with him in charge.
Open ControlsNo second half of the season was when he shined
Open Controls
Palace could park the bus and Swans are probably gonna put up a fight against United. It's tough to go for Ramsey for the great initial fixture, but Mata has good long term value. What do you guys think. Ramsey or Mata? I have Rooney up top already. No other Arsenal coverage.
Open ControlsBiggest price riser after week 1, who do you think it will be?
I predict Sigurdsson or Filipe Luis.Open Controlslet me guess, you have both? 😆
Open Controls
pulis scouted kelly on tinder
Open ControlsOnly paid pennies. Amazing deal.
Open Controls
Whys Shaw not playing then, still too much McDonalds weight?
Open ControlsI presume.
Open ControlsAlthough, there might now be a real problem on the horizon ...
Open ControlsGet the feeling LvG really doesn't rate him. I know he said he "liked" him, but i can't imagine LvG watching a mid-table premier club too often last season
Open ControlsInjured
Open ControlsLvG prematch interview on MUTV
Open Controls
Obviously been on the Ben Arfa diet
Open ControlsHaha
Open Controls
Yeah it's strange. Obviously been screwed by injuries but he's a good player.
Open Controls
If humours are to be believed hopefully Blind and Rojo are priced like they were in McD's..
Rojo(4m) Blind(3.5m)
http://38.media.tumblr.com/6a67975610a4af29652e73b4cb70b43e/tumblr_mw98fctEsi1sf4gufo1_500.gifOpen ControlsBlind is a DM primarily. He's a bit on the slow side to play LWB in a fast league like the Prem
Rojo is the left footed CB they are desperate for. And can cover LB, LWB
Seems like Ashley Young is doomed then. Backup to Valencia at RWB and no chance of playing LWBOpen ControlsI'm pretty set with this team
Mannone
JT Wisdom WARDINHO Chambers Moore
Cesc mata Rambo Hendo Neymar
Rooney Studge(c) joveticOpen ControlsRumours of Zaha to Palace - 5.5m - any takers if it happens?
Open ControlsNot if his stint at Cardiff is anything to go by.
Open Controls
Just out of interest Is Bojan sure to start?
Open ControlsStill sticking with Palace double defense with Ward and Dann. though the injury doubts and changes at the back have got me a bit worried
Open Controlsis it likely to be
Kelly Dann Hangeland WardOpen ControlsYup... though he should stick with Mariappa for a bit. with Speroni just a couple of bad performances away from gettin serious pressure from hennesey they only real options seem to be dann and ward with a swap to kelly later on
Open ControlsYep, this ^^^^^
Open ControlsThat was supposed to be at Ramessi's line up
Open Controls
though i gotta mention!! Palace eyeing George friend from Middlesborough.. a natural LB too
Open Controls
Dann or Ward VALAR? I have Wad, but fancy the differential...
Is there more risk to Dann?Open ControlsHangeland should replace Delaney.. Dann is a Pulis signing and has not put a foot wrong so he should start every game. Delaney has looked a bit off and Hangeland looks like his replacement.
Open ControlsFancy both to start. Ward does take a few corners and should shift to his natural position this season so expect more assists. the BP system looks like it'll favor him too. i love dann though. cant go without either 🙂
Open Controls
Decided to wildcard when aguero makes a sub appearance, whenever that is. Rooney sturridge aguero ftw!
Open ControlsNice but suggest a change to team name when it happens to The Missing Defence
Open Controls4-3-3 should be fine!:)
Open Controls
Aguero hits some form and I'll hit the button if needed. 😉
Open ControlsSturridge + champs lge = muchos injurios 😉
It's all about Diego Costa this year!Open ControlsCall me when he's on pens, until then its hazards show 😉
Open Controls
Can I trouble you for some movie suggestions?
Watched Divergent last night, found it pretty enjoyable on the whole.Open ControlsVery time I post my team I get the same feedback. Baines is not worth it downgrade him. I'm going jt attempt to explain why I THINK that baines is definetly worth the 7.0 million.
Baines is an attacking full back. He bombs down the left and has a mean delivery. With lukaku lurking he can always get open play assists.
He takes set pieces. Everton have a few lumps in the box and can be dangerous so will get assists this way as well. With these two I'd say that is minimum 5 maximum probably 8 assists a season. Not too bad for 7.0.
He takes penalties. With a team with flair players such as Barkley and mirallas and the strength of lukaku then they are always likely to win a few penalties a year. Add to this his quality free kicks and this is probably 5 goals.
Added together this is 15-25 for assists and 30 for goals which is between 45 and 55 points. Not bad.
Furthermore. In 3 of his last 4 seasons (other was a poor season for baines) he has got 169,178,175 or something close to this. Only 4 midfielders and 5 attackers (including Suarez) beat this. The 4 midfielders are this season priced at 11.0,9.0,10.0 and 8.5. All significantly more then baines despite not finishing far in front of him. The forwards that are still on the game are 11.5,10.5,8.5,7.5. These are all a lot higher as well other then lambert who won't be reaching that scores gain this season.
This shows the scoring power that baines has and if you were offered a midfield or striker to reach 170-175 you'd take it straight away so why not baines??Open ControlsIf he starts slow as predicted then you are losing out in other areas.
Open ControlsMC why?? If someone said Barkley will get 170 points this season. Would you not get him straight in?? Why not just as he is a defender.
Open Controls
defenders score in spurts though when they have good fixtures, why not ride Terry's or a Man U defenders fixtures, let baines drop in price a bit(hopefully) and get him when he has good fixtures.
Open ControlsThis is the only logical reply but I'm still going to politely ignore I think. Teams get penalties agaisnt any teams. Sunderland away to cheslea last year. Penalties can come agsint anyone and I don't want to miss out on baines.
Open Controls
Owning Baines is all about timing. He'll go on a good run and then do nothing for 10 games. He'll definitely be in my team at some point this season but I'm waiting for better fixtures.
Open ControlsPrecisely this.
Open Controls
You don't need to make an argument for Baines, we know how good he is for fantasy
Open ControlsI tend to agree, and while it makes sense to go after defenders firstly for clean sheets secondly for other things, when the defender is on pens which can come anytime as well as playing for a very decent defending side in Everton when clean sheets may come when not expected he can well be a great season long keeper. Couple things against him are: Mirallas took some free kicks away from him last year. Everton do not earn very many penalties. There is no one to get on the end of his crosses - Lukaku was daft last year in the box at doing this from my eye. He does not score goals from open play really ever and even though he is capable of dribbling into the box he usually doesn't come up with a decent end product.
All in all I can see very compelling arguments both ways, and I always have an eye on him, but seem to think getting him at the right run of fixtures where clean sheets are more likely and just hoping he gets some pens in those games is more worth owning him as a season keeper. Especially early doors when it's a lot to plump on a defender.Open ControlsCheers Walsh. Just for me it just seems like a no-brained. In my team from start if gw1 to end of gw38. No question. Playing every week as well. City away or leicester at home. He plays for me.
Open Controls
I agree, if it wasn't for the opening fixtures he would be in my team from the start. But Ars, Chelsea, ManU and Liv in the first 7 gws! It makes it tough to justify 😉
Open ControlsAll this we know, and he's definitely a viable option BUT: Everton play Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United in the first 7. Of the remaining 3 fixtures in the first 7, 2 are on the road. That's pretty tough.
Open ControlsCan anyone tell me whether or not his was persuasive in any way. Only, it's my dream jt be a sports journalist when I'm older and my grandad said I have to write persuasive stuff.
Open ControlsI have to go to bed but if someone could just read and reply I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks.

Baines is good value, no doubt and a nailed on starter for the entire season (barring injury) in a strong defensive team, offering attacking points with crosses and set-pieces in the locker.
If you calculate points per game last season divided by current price (i.e. PPG per million), he is one of the highest valued in the entire player list (especially if consider only players with high minutes played) and therefore a sound investment. Much better value on this basis than Haz, Studge and Roon as examples (ignoring the captain's armband).
That said, I am not starting with him due to early fixtures and can't quite fit him into my current squad. I am hoping the price will drop a little before I get him after game 8 when fixtures improve substantially and he will be locked into my squad for the duration (s.t. injuries). However, I think that having him from the start is a very sound choice.Open Controls
I thought I’d make the most of Couti&belowthe5th’s amazing pre-season research to check out potential bargains:

Note: I really want a QPR defender but the signing of Isla and absence of Ferdinand in games makes it difficult to predict with any certainty who will start aside from Caulker, based on pre-season alone.Open ControlsChelsea team for tonight, please?
Open ControlsYou know you can just type it into google instead of asking. Here it is anyway:
Chelsea are expected to line up in the following 4-2-3-1 formation:
Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Ake; Matic, Ramires; Schurrle, Fabregas, Hazard; Diego Costa
Substitutes: Cech, Schwarzer, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Filipe Luis, Zouma, Van Ginkel, Mikel, Oscar, Salah, Moses, Willian, Torres.Open Controls
Ranked 7th in the World in Fantasy Uefa Super Cup. : - )
Open ControlsCan someone tell me what was Chelsea's formation for that game?. 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3?
Open ControlsSterling and Young
or
Mata and Davis?Open ControlsSecond one
Open Controls
Simpson or Ferdinand, as I can't afford Caulker ?
Open ControlsSimpson has more attacking potential.
Open Controls
I really doubted that Fletcher would get back to this level. Very pleased for him.
Open Controlsyeah, honest, no-nonsense player, always thought he's underrated

After game Gaal say to Fellaine "Thank you for goal and goodbye." All team laugh! Except Cleverley, he no laugh. He next! 😆Open Controlsreally doesn't make me laugh anymore this account 🙁
Open Controls
I'm starting to get convinced that Ivanovic is the safe route to Chelsea defence: surely it makes no sense to leave 7.0 defender on bench.
Open ControlsMourinho didnt price them
Open ControlsI doubt Mourinho knows he is £7.0m in FPL
Open ControlsHehehe ... ! 😉
Open ControlsBit early for me 🙂
Open ControlsI'm genuinely surprised that everybody else seems to have taken this seriously. Thank you for giving me at least some audience. 😀
Open Controls
Anyone got the goal gif?
