The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Kicking off today’s RMT discussion is Evs.

A Chelsea defender is a must for Evs, should he downgrade Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and get a 6m Chelsea defender or downgrade Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to his team mate Aaron Ramsey to give himself 6.5m to spend.

Recently Tottenham’s Ben Davies had been ousted from his team, as again uncertainty with Danny Rose continues. Which is the best route into the Tottenham defence? Stevan Jovetic is a short term punt. Who should he replace him with should he fail to cement a place in Manchester City’s starting XI?

    At this stage I'd definitely pay more for the security of either Terry or Cahill. I think the three 9m ones you have are fine. Although...drumroll..had you considered swapping Mata for Young and spending the extra to get Sturridge in?....worth a thought.

      The thing with sturridge his that he didn't even score as many points as hazard last year (albeit different positions) yet is priced £1.5m more. I feel sterling could be better value.

      Yeah I agree on the Young instead of Mata idea. I'd even consider him as a 5th mid rotation option with the likes of Siggurdson. Offers a bit more than Wanyama anyway who if called upon will only return a point or two.

          Thanks, I know thats the preferred method to have a set formation but Id rather have a fully usable 15 players and pick the best 11 each week.

      Don't like Wilshere in there, doesn't do enough, can find better. Not enough big hitters in midfield but I guess that's the price you pay for an excellent midfield. Would be worried without Arsenal attack.

      You need to spend that 1m on upgrading Wilshere to someone who will play ever week and score points. Marney is decent bench fodder. Defence is poor - I'd be worried your 3 heavy hitters up front are detracting from your defence. Consider downgrading one of the three and bringing in a Chelsea or City defender.

      On a different note - the midfield is very strong, so I can imagine you'll be rotating between Siggy and Bojan most weeks. I'd personally do Shawcross ---> Ward and then Clyne ---> Evans, (if he's out, then Jones) and then to save money, I'd do Caulker ---> Rio. But that's just my personal opinion. Good team, nevertheless. 🙂

        Went with ShawX because as for now I really don't know how Hughes will setup his defence. Bego and Ryan the only two viable options for me. Might change my mind as season progress.
        Don't trust United backline and I know what I am talking about as I am a United fan. We're shite in that department.
        Same goes with Rio. Caulker is better, more nailed on option.

      Really like this team, has a very good balance. Having said that, are Nasri and Coutinho gonna be the big providers? Defence is solid, albeit a weak GK partnership.

    Really good team Evs. I especially like the Jovetic punt, can see him scoring very highly. The front 8 is very strong.

      Jovetic v Dzeko is one that will run right up to deadline for me. I was hoping the CS would give answers, but it didn't, really.

        Dzeko can be very frustrating to own in fantasy football. Jovetic has had a great pre-season. But more than that any time he came on last year he looked like scoring. He isn't afraid to take a shot and is probably more creative than Dzeko. At the beginning of last season, a lot of City supporters said that Jovetic was the player they wanted to see most out of all the new signings. Unfortunately injuries ruined his first season but he seems to be back to his best and for that reason he is worth picking above Dzeko in my opinion.

        Was comfortable having him on the bench on most templates but this line-up means that he has to play, unless I play Sigg? Might be useful against the utd defence

    2 players I am not so sure about:

    Fabregas - Big worry over whether he will drop deep
    Mata - Playing in the hole but behind 2 strikers. Not sure if this suits him or not

    To much in defence? I like the strength in depth, with no doubts. Ideally I would want Tadic instead of Young but cannot stretch to him.

          very flexible - i like it - though i would be concerned about points on the bench - but if you are willing to get frustrated a lot it can pay off big time

      Vertonghen not a good shout and would recommend downgrading. Heard Speroni could be under threat from competition, so could go Vert to Ward and then Speroni to Foster or Krul. Good to see you sticking with Sanchez, Ramsey would give you a lot more money to improve your team though.

        I will see how Sanchez performs. It's much easier downgrading to Ramsey, than upgrading Ramsey to Sanchez.

      My worry here would be lack of a attacking gunner.

      But fair enough, the midfield 4 I like, especially Tadic.

      I like a solid defence so not in my opinion.
