The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Ryan’s biggest concern is his cheap defenders. Any ideas for improvement there? Is he right to spend so much on Ivanovic or to trust in Stevan Jovetic replicating his preseason form?

    Is anyone risking Wisdom in the first week? I have Wisdom, Davies and Bartley to rotate and starting to think Davies away at QPR might be a better shout than Wisdom (possibly) at home to Sunderland.

    Also, in a straight Hazard vs Mata, with one defender and one striker from both Chelski and Utd already, what are people's thoughts? Is it too early for 3 players from one team?

        Im kinda liking Gerrard as a differential to all the sturridge and sterling owners. He is still number one for pens corners and free kicks.

    I initially had DDG and Myhill but am not massively confident on manu defence at the mo. Also played with Stirling instead of Fab but thing chelski's fixtures are better until a few weeks time

      GKs ok, coloccini -> Hutton, PVA -> 5.0 Defender (Caulker or Clyne IMO), downgrade dzeko, Fab -> Hazard. 7/10

    Keep fiddling with my team today.

    Satisfied with GK Mid and Strikers. Can't settle on a defence though. Going to play a 3-4-3 and have £26m for the 5 defenders, at the moment I have:

      Not really a fan of the formation really. You should seek to upgrade one of Davis or Bojan. The former is probably the easiest to upgrade with Siggurdson, Snodgrass and Young being obvious options.

      I think Hazard will overshadow. But I'm probably going to go for Fabregas in the hope that he starts off quicker than Hazard and experiences a price boost. Wasn't convinced over Hazard's fitness atthe World Cup and his preseason minutes suggest he isn't fully fit yet.

      BS will not play Zarate. A waste of 6.5M. Could go for a cheaper option (Austin or Bojan). That way you can upgrade Luis to a nailed on Chelsea defender. Then you could also get a better 5th mid that Wanyama. Also I would change Figueroa to Chester, he is nailed on

      Your defence is kinda cheap and your midfield in my opinion heavily outweighs it. I would downgrade Henderson to as cheap as possible e.g. 4.5M like Wanyama as you don't intend to play them as much, then with the extra dough go upgrade Bruce to Chester or Figueroa, Hutton to Caulker or Ferdinand! Then if any left over look to upgrade Zamora as he didn't play all that much in the championship! Hope this helps 🙂

    I think I'm done now, on hols in Portugal until tomorrow so trying to sort it all with limited info but I'm happy enough, a couple of risks but overall a solid team I think:

    Krul (Schmeichel)

    Kolarov, Davies (Spurs), Ivanovich, Debuchy (Lovren)

    Henderson, Lamela, Fabregas, Mata (VC) (Sigurdsson)

    Costa (C), Jovetic (Bojan).

    I've always done well with balanced teams and don't favour the attack-heavy approach many seem to - I got to rank 100 by January last season like that until I had to work away for a few months so I think it has merit.

    Anyone see any glaring problems? Cheers for any feedback!

        Cheers! They're my risks really - my subs should be solid but my only worry is the old 10 minute substitute appearances if they (Ivan/Kolarov) don't start. Both have big point potential on any given day though... I think Ivan's safe for now and Kolarov prominent in pre-season too. I may change my mind last minute of course!

      Defence looks a bit light to me and you could free up 0.5 with Dzeko -> Jovetic to start the season if pre-season is any indicator of intentions by City.

      Yeah I like the team, 7.5/10 no major differentials apart from Arnie but I really like the team, solid over the park. My only worry would be only having one playing GK in Begovic, injured etc. I would personally get together another 0.5M and upgrade Gilks to the likes of Foster, Krul etc! Hope this helps 🙂

    First time using RMT, what a great resource!
    Would appreciate some feedback please:

    De Gea
    Terry / Cameron / Jones
    Sanchez / Matic / Ramsey / Barkley
    Sturridge / Rooney / Long

    Bench: Boruc, El Ahmadi, Vlaar, Bruce.

    I could also drop Long + Sanchez, and pick up Costa + a 6.0.

      Boruc will be 2nd keeper with Forster signed ( with DDG i will suggest 2nd goalie 4.0 , or maybe Krul )

      Downgrade Sanchez to Ramsey.
      Barkley is a rotation risk and not worth the money until he starts performing consistently
      Cameron is a rotation risk
      Matic is not worth having. Get Marney or Mutch as a budget mid.
      Choose a better benched keeper than Boruc (he may not start because of Forster)
      Maybe try and get Fabregas instead of Barkley.

    Is having Wilson and Huth (so that whichever doesn't play, the other will cover for) silly? I really want to load up on Stoke defence, but Shawcross is just bad value because he doesn't offer much more than nailed-on-ness.

      Impressive, especially as there's so many options to switch your formation. My only suggestion would be Arny -> Henderson to get a Liverpool player in. He's been talked up alot by Brendan Rogers recently and asked to get forward more 🙂

        I want to see how Pool do after first 3 fixtures. I will probably bring in Sterling for Eriksen and then downgrade Jones to a Spurs defender once I know who is likely to play
