A new beginning. On the eve of a new campaign, two grumpy middle-aged has-beens gather in a studio to recall the summer’s feast of football and look ahead to another Fantasy season, full of hope.

There’s no frills. No live video cast. No special guests. Just Granville and I, stripped back and almost unplugged.

Don’t let that put you off, though. Even with our limited powers we at least attempt to cut through the issues currently rattling around in the minds of Fantasy managers.

We assess the Old Trafford revolution, the world without Suarez and the merits of the three-man strike force. We slice through the current transfer trends and weigh up matters such as the Sigurdsson/Bojan rotation, Fagregas vs Hazard and the Chelsea back four conundrum. We also manage to warm up with a nice little argument about the Alexis Sanchez bandwagon – the traditional pre-season barney.

        Yes. Downgrade one of Fletcher or Sigurdsson to a 4.5 and upgrade the defence.

    What do you all think of mutchs prospects? Got 123 points in a relegated team last season. More than mata, coutinho and Barkley. Could he do better in a better team with players like remy and Austin around him?

      You're forgetting Mata only played half a season since he was rotting on bench on the other half of the season at Chelsea.

    I've got Terry and Phil Jones, and have 3x Chelsea and United.

    I've got £14m to spend on the other 3 defender places. Which is best?

    A) Play a premium every week... £6m - £4m - £4m

    B) Play a mid price with an occasional back up.... £5.5m - £4.5m - £4m

    C) Play a three-way rotation.... £5m - £4.5m - £4.5m

    I know it's player-dependent, but what do you think? 🙂

        I would love to upgrade him for Hendo. Can't find the cash without scrapping Chester for Bruce, a Foster for Elliot or Bony for Jovetic (who has the same problem as Young).

          But Debuchy has a reputation for being really attacking, and is in a team with better opening defensive fixtures.

      That front line is incredibly sexy 😉

      You've done OK with the midfield.

      I'd suggest downgrading Sturridge and upgrading your bench defenders, but you're not going to do that 😛

    For those who are unsettled on the Ward or Clyne debate, this may help:

    Clyne is more of a risk than Ward is. We're all forgetting that Southampton are a completely different team now. No Lovren, No Shaw, No Chambers, No Lallana, No Lambert, and a new manager. Southampton's defence was weak towards the end of last season, and they still had Lovren, Shaw, Chambers, Lallana and Lambert then - and they still had Pochettino! Imagine how worse it will be now.

    Ward is still a slight risk with Pulis leaving, but I don't think it will make a drastic difference. Kelly has arrived at the club today, which will only make them stronger at the back. And I don't know much about Keith Millen, but if he's managed them before and kept clean sheets against Everton and Hull, he must be pretty decent until they get a new manager.
    And for those worrying about Moyes joining - we're forgetting that Moyes was a great manager for Everton.

    I can see why Clyne seems the better pick, but if we flip it around - let's say that Pulis left Crystal Palace a few months ago, and Millen had been in charge for a while, and we'll say that Pochettino had left Southampton tonight, and they've only just hired a new manager - Ward seems like the better choice, right? Correct.

    But then let's say - both Pochettino and Pulis left their clubs at the same time, and we forget about the managers and focus on the squad. We'd all notice that Palace have a stronger squad, they're in much better condition defensively and throughout last season, Palace were a lot stronger at the back.

    Now, I'm not sure if this has convinced any of you or not, but Ward is definitely the much better pick for me.

      I'm avoiding both for this reason but Clyne obviously has better fixtures. I expect Southampton to be down the bottom end though this time around unless Pelle and Tadic start firing. You can't dismantle a team like that and expect to get the same results.

      Clyne has good attacking potential. Ward could play Defensiveid which offers nothing for a fantasy prospect.

        bruce is not nailed on at all. Hull have many cb's, I think chester/davies will start most but chester is slight worry of fitnes/injury trouble

          I believe so based on pre-season at least until Huth is gradually brought back in.

          Problem with PVA is the fixtures. Worse case scenario if Wilson doesnt start then Clyne comes on. Then off he goes in GW2. But at least by then, we'll know who the 4.5 starting defenders are for each team.
