A new beginning. On the eve of a new campaign, two grumpy middle-aged has-beens gather in a studio to recall the summer’s feast of football and look ahead to another Fantasy season, full of hope.

There’s no frills. No live video cast. No special guests. Just Granville and I, stripped back and almost unplugged.

Don’t let that put you off, though. Even with our limited powers we at least attempt to cut through the issues currently rattling around in the minds of Fantasy managers.

We assess the Old Trafford revolution, the world without Suarez and the merits of the three-man strike force. We slice through the current transfer trends and weigh up matters such as the Sigurdsson/Bojan rotation, Fagregas vs Hazard and the Chelsea back four conundrum. We also manage to warm up with a nice little argument about the Alexis Sanchez bandwagon – the traditional pre-season barney.

Be there at the birth via this link, or witness the new dawn via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've decided when it comes to defenders there's only one thing I want atm - nailed-on. Don't know about you guys but being boring and taking zero risks to avoid early hits.

Not sure Wakey. I'd say Hutton/Moore for nailedonness then maybe Wisdom and Bruce.

Not sure, but not that great a pick considering Swansea's defensive form under Monk. He's more of an attacking man I think, Ferdinand and Chester are better picks IMO.

To those previously in the Giroud v Dzeko discussion:

I meant that Arsenal are quick out the blocks in the context of the season, not just the very first game. Last year they were top of the league by a margin for quite a while and Giroud was doing very well. THAT'S what I'm on about, not the loss to Villa on the opening day.

The other point in Dzeko's favour though is that Arsenal have more of a goalscoring midfield than City so as a striker he's more likely to be the one getting on the end of things.

Let's put it this way: do you think it would matter if I did an attacking double-up with Utd Chelsea and Arsenal?

    Defense is

    DDG
Debuchy Chester PVA Hutton xxxxx(5 million)

    For the last spot
    A) Clyne
    B) Caulker

i know Caulker and Chester rotate but it wont really help as i need a 3rd playing defender every week and cant rely on hutton/pva for that. maybe if i swap PVA for Rio and get Clyne in my problem will be solved. can Rio be trusted though?

Caulker - I don't think QPR will keep many clean sheets
Clyne - Good player but different team from last year
Ben Davies - Not nailed on
    Anybody else?

You don't have to replace Ward. Pulis leaving may make a slight difference, but if Millen has managed Palace before and kept clean sheets, then I don't see why it wouldn't work. Plus. Kelly arrived yesterday, that's only going to make them stronger.

He's on my watchlist. The problem is that if he is indeed OOP, that should mean that Wisdom is nailed on, and I might just want to keep him instead.

    thoughts?

    mannone (krul)
    debuchy, vlaar, bardsley (bruce) (baird)
    henderson, sterling, hazard, mata, ramsey
    costa, rooney (c)

baird's worth 4.0 and has been starting all pre season games for brom mostly in the defensive mid role and bardsley is a full back who has scored the last 4 seasons consecutively. if anyone can improve my defence with a total of 15 mil between 3 players, im all ears.

Is that your own conclusion, or is there a quote on the subject?
