Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Burnley later this evening, we scour the post-match reports and treatment rooms to assess those players who picked up injuries over the previous weekend. We also cast any eye over the disciplinary action after a trio of players were given their marching orders over the nine matches played out so far.

Injuries

Arsenal
Kieran Gibbs’ pitch time was cut short in Arsenal’s opening day encounter against Crystal Palace, with a hamstring injury forcing him off after 52 minutes. Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the left back is indeed carrying a knock, and also has concerns over the fitness of Laurent Koscielny – both are doubts for the Gunners’ Champions League tie against Besiktas tomorrow night.

Crystal Palace
Eagles right-back Adrian Mariappa missed Saturday evening’s Etihad trip with a slight injury, whilst fellow defender Scott Dann was withdrawn in the latter stages with a thigh problem.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has conceded that the results of a scan on Ross Barkley’s knee ligament injury are indecisive, but fears that the midfielder could be sidelined for up to five months.

Hull City
Liam Rosenior missed his side’s game victory over QPR with a back problem, whilst two Tigers players were forced off with injuries. Alex Bruce picked up a back complaint in the first half, though this is understood to not be too serious, whilst new-boy Robert Snodgrass limped off before half time with suspected knee ligament damage, with manager Steve Bruce bracing himself for the worst.

Leicester City
Midfielder Matty James missed against Everton this weekend after sustaining a knock to his shin in training, whilst fellow Foxes midfielder Danny Drinkwater was withdrawn in the 39th minute with a hamstring problem. The club’s official website has today confirmed that both players will miss next week’s trip to Chelsea.

Man United
Jesse Lingard was forced off due to injury just 24 minutes into his debut for the Red Devils in Saturday’s home loss to Swansea.

Newcastle
Centre-back Yanga Mbiwa was unavailable for yesterday’s match against Man City having sustained a knock in training on Friday.

Sunderland
Santiago Vergini was ruled out of the Black Cats’ opening fixture due to injury. The defender’s absence saw Wes Brown shifted to right-back as cover, with Valentin Roberge partnering John O’Shea in the middle.

West Ham
James Tomkins failed to feature in the weekend home loss to Spurs due to a hamstring complaint, with Sam Allardyce uncertain over whether he will come back into the side for next weekend.

Suspensions

Crystal Palace wide-man Jason Puncheon saw red in the 89th minute against Arsenal on Saturday evening. Two bookable offences ensured that the midfielder will miss next weekend’s home match against West Ham.

Both Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton and West Ham’s James Collins were given their marching orders during the London derby at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon. Naughton was shown a straight red for a deliberate handball in his side’s 1-0 victory, whilst Collins received a second yellow after the break to make it 10 men apiece. The pair will sit out next weekend’s fixtures and return for Gameweek 3.

Meanwhile, Hull City forward Yannick Sagbo will serve the second of a two-match ban next weekend, and Chelsea’s Ramires will make his return on Saturday from a four-match suspension for violent conduct that carried over from the end of last season.

To all the guys, don't be alarmed on Filipe Luis today. Burnley is a tough team, hostile atmosphere, loads of energy. Any nerves from Luis can get amplified. Much better to introduce him next week at Stamford Bridge.

His attacking is a MAJOR part of the new Chelsea - Azpilicueta just doesn't provide that.

The one part to be alarmed of is, Mourinho took an awful lot of time to give Azpilicueta a chance last year. He has some liking to Ivanovic which means he keeps starting. So it may take some time. However, I can't see Filipe Luis signing up without a guarantee of a chance early.

What am I wrong in? Azpilicueta just doesn't provide the attacking force.

The three major issues why sides could triplemark Eden Hazard last year and get away with it was:

        1) Lack of incisiveness and penetration in midfield (especially after Oscar's dip in form)
        2) A striker who sides were ok to leave a defender 1v1 against and have the other defender shift to Hazard's side.
        3) Fullbacks who don't overlap much (both Iva and Azpi). For every Ronaldo or Ribery, there is a Marcelo and a Alaba.

Who is that? I believe Azpilicueta is the better RB than Ivanovic. But Mourinho keeps playing Ivanovic for some reason. Azpilicueta-Cahill-Terry-Luis is currently our best defence. Mourinho probably prefers his height or something, I don't know.

I think Luis is great, but Mourinho liked his defense last year. I think Luis would have to play really well to get Azpilicuetas spot. I think Azpi is better than Brana too, but can't deny he wins every header.

Jose Mourinho reveales the reasons why he picked Courtois

'Ten years ago I had a difficult decision to make,' Mourinho told Sky Sports, 'with Carlo Cudicini giving fantastic performances. I made a decision for Petr Cech in 2004/05 because I had in my hands a 22-year-old who I thought could be in goal for years. This situation is similar.

'We have to think about future and to give it to Courtois. I'm feeling so safe with having these two keepers with us.

'Petr is a fantastic professional. He only knew this morning, he has behaved professionally which is what we expect from him. I hope he will fight for his place and not sit in a comfortable chair accepting this.'

Can someone please tell me why there will be more transfer activity in the FPL game over the international break over GW3 than this week? I appreciate that there is a longer period, but will this result in more price rises? I cannot think why there would be more transfers given most people will make the same number of transfers?

    Anyone?

yep, it was one of those great theories about 4 years ago that was then proven wrong. sadly the theory had already taken hold in people thinking and so still makes an appearance today. I would put it in the same bracket as "due" or "coverage"

More people will Wildcard therefore more transfers.

But yeah, it is over egged. I don't think GW 3 price rises would be any different to GW2 or GW4 if the same things happened.

I would say that you are right to be sceptical about these ultra price movements. I would guess to say that the two week delay will result in marginally more transfers than usual, but nothing to get one unduly exercised so as to induce panic.

Gary Neville is a twat when he talks about United.

How can you argue that defenders in a 3/5 at the back system is that specialized when the Dutch defenders are definitely not world class.
