Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Burnley later this evening, we scour the post-match reports and treatment rooms to assess those players who picked up injuries over the previous weekend. We also cast any eye over the disciplinary action after a trio of players were given their marching orders over the nine matches played out so far.

Injuries

Arsenal
Kieran Gibbs’ pitch time was cut short in Arsenal’s opening day encounter against Crystal Palace, with a hamstring injury forcing him off after 52 minutes. Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the left back is indeed carrying a knock, and also has concerns over the fitness of Laurent Koscielny – both are doubts for the Gunners’ Champions League tie against Besiktas tomorrow night.

Crystal Palace
Eagles right-back Adrian Mariappa missed Saturday evening’s Etihad trip with a slight injury, whilst fellow defender Scott Dann was withdrawn in the latter stages with a thigh problem.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has conceded that the results of a scan on Ross Barkley’s knee ligament injury are indecisive, but fears that the midfielder could be sidelined for up to five months.

Hull City
Liam Rosenior missed his side’s game victory over QPR with a back problem, whilst two Tigers players were forced off with injuries. Alex Bruce picked up a back complaint in the first half, though this is understood to not be too serious, whilst new-boy Robert Snodgrass limped off before half time with suspected knee ligament damage, with manager Steve Bruce bracing himself for the worst.

Leicester City
Midfielder Matty James missed against Everton this weekend after sustaining a knock to his shin in training, whilst fellow Foxes midfielder Danny Drinkwater was withdrawn in the 39th minute with a hamstring problem. The club’s official website has today confirmed that both players will miss next week’s trip to Chelsea.

Man United
Jesse Lingard was forced off due to injury just 24 minutes into his debut for the Red Devils in Saturday’s home loss to Swansea.

Newcastle
Centre-back Yanga Mbiwa was unavailable for yesterday’s match against Man City having sustained a knock in training on Friday.

Sunderland
Santiago Vergini was ruled out of the Black Cats’ opening fixture due to injury. The defender’s absence saw Wes Brown shifted to right-back as cover, with Valentin Roberge partnering John O’Shea in the middle.

West Ham
James Tomkins failed to feature in the weekend home loss to Spurs due to a hamstring complaint, with Sam Allardyce uncertain over whether he will come back into the side for next weekend.

Suspensions

Crystal Palace wide-man Jason Puncheon saw red in the 89th minute against Arsenal on Saturday evening. Two bookable offences ensured that the midfielder will miss next weekend’s home match against West Ham.

Both Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton and West Ham’s James Collins were given their marching orders during the London derby at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon. Naughton was shown a straight red for a deliberate handball in his side’s 1-0 victory, whilst Collins received a second yellow after the break to make it 10 men apiece. The pair will sit out next weekend’s fixtures and return for Gameweek 3.

Meanwhile, Hull City forward Yannick Sagbo will serve the second of a two-match ban next weekend, and Chelsea’s Ramires will make his return on Saturday from a four-match suspension for violent conduct that carried over from the end of last season.

Why so little talk of Ward? Palace have great fixtures imo and looked pretty tight. I suppose it's just the uncertainty?

Way I see it: you're aiming for 2000 points in a season (and ideally more).
      You start with 100M quid.
Thus each million is worth 20 points *over the course of the season*
0.1 million is worth 2 points right now, and less with each gameweek that goes by.

So taking a hit to bandwagon catch is worthwhile at this very early stage of the season only if the player's going to rise at least twice (and that's not factoring in the fact you only get half of the gain when you sell him on).

I took a hit to get one of my teams on the SigWagon (my other team had him anyway), because I figure he'll probably rise 0.3 this week, and more next.

This early? Yes, and will do tonight as long as CFC boys come through unscathed. Other factor is affordability - I can afford Sterling and keep that 0.5 extra for next week as long as I do it today.
At this point in the game, where 99.9% of players are valued in 0.5M increments, the effective negative value of 0.1M is 0.5M. So while a 0.1M gain doesn't help much, a 0.1M loss (if Mata goes down in value, or if I get Sterling tomorrow) is actually a 0.5M loss in terms of how it restricts your buying power. This goes away as market forces smooth out the prices, but right now it's important.

It's not that Sterling's necessarily a better choice than Mata. It's that economically I'm better off viz game strategy holding him at this stage...

exactly how i am thinking, only that i value 0.1 a little more actaully (see below). I think being generous with hits is the way to go the first 5-10 GW's to build team value and get the right players

there is a natural way to make this question sensible. If you were told you could either be given 0.1 mil in the bank or be given n points, at what value of n would you rather have the points than the money?

Well, that's because they're playing the money game and taking umpteen hits each week purely for team value purposes. It's a different game, essentially. [I miss the money league that FPL used to have to legitimize this style of play].

      This is how i did..
Looking at last season values, the avg point per million per 90 games are approximately 0,75.

If i get 0,1m more at GW37 you could say you get 0.1x37*0,75=2,775 points more over those 37 games.

If you do a transfer involving where you earn 0.2 (avoid one player go down and the one you transfer in gain 0.1) then you earn 5.55 points.

interestingly the GW where you drop below 4 points is approx GW 27...so this tactic could work until then...

I know its abit flawed, but its not too far off either

            They do count, of course...

But It's a nice stat showing how good Sturridge has been.

Got the big 3 upfront.. so Eriksen Ramsey Siggy Puncheon JWP for me in midfield.. leaves me with a very good defense too 🙂 (Terry, Clyne, Caulker etc)

I have all of those 3

          I've spent big in midfield

regretting it with Mata tbh but I'm giving him at least a couple more games, to see how Austin gets on mainly as Mata out would be my route to an upgrade
