Cesc Fabregas grabs a pair of assists as Chelsea overcome Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. Diego Costa nets on his league debut, while Branislav Ivanovic and Andre Schurrle are also amongst the goals as the Blues get off to an impressive start.

Chelsea New Boys Dazzle in Burnley Destruction
Positioned in the Blues double-pivot alongside Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas showed that, despite a deep-lying role, he looks poised to play a major part in our Fantasy seasons. The Spaniard pulled the strings for Jose Mourinho’s side in an outstanding first-half display that harvested a pair of assists and the maximum bonus points as he overshadowed the pricier Eden Hazard in the Chelsea midfield.

Up front, Diego Costa continued the momentum that saw him score four times over the summer friendlies. Drafted in by 37% of FPL managers prior to the weekend, the former Atletico Madrid man was second only to Wayne Rooney in last week’s Captain Poll and his predatory instincts will surely persuade more to invest as Mourinho’s men welcome Leicester, Swansea and Villa to the Bridge in the next five.

Schurrle Stakes a Claim
The German’s excellent strike also brings him onto radars as a potential mid-price option. Coming in at just 7.5, Schurrle scored eight times in just over 1400 minutes last season, with an average of 176.4 minutes per goal quicker than any Chelsea player – currently sitting in just 6% of FPL sides, he looks a real prospect if he can retain the role on the right of the attacking midfield three.

Luis and Cech Warm the Blues Bench
Mourinho started last season’s back-four for the Burnley clash as new signing Filipe Luis was named amongst the substitutes, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic fielded as full-backs. Clearly, though, the new boy won’t be expected to sit on the bench every week and it may not be for a number of matches before we get a clear idea of Mourinho’s intentions – there seems little conclusions can be made on last night’s team sheet. Thibaut Courtois got the nod ahead of Petr Cech for the number one jersey, though before the match, the Blues boss added further uncertainty to the situation by stating:

“Thibaut is my number one tonight against Burnley. I don’t make decisions for the season; I make decisions for a match.”

Arfield’s Budget Appeal
The Clarets man was one of only three budget midfielders to get amongst the goals this week, along with Ki Sung-Yeung and Lee Cattermole. Having netted eight times in last year’s Championship, Arfield carries the main scoring threat in the centre of the park in Sean Dyche’s side and, after proving his capabilities against a side that chalked up 18 clean sheets last season, could come into contention as a cheap fifth midfield option.

Interested to know what fellow Naughton owners are doing.
Seems silly to hold him, but using a transfer to bring in Chester/Kelly seems a bit of a waste, especially as next week there are players who could become close to essential (Aguero, Fabregas etc.)

    Hi Guys,

So like many of you, the knees are jerking and the Mata/Fab move temptation has set in.

I've managed a score of 72pts (OR 33k) which I'm really pleased with. My team: http://imgur.com/EPIpima

Now - I am tempted to do one of the following! (x1 FT)

    A) Mata to Fabregas
    B) *Debuchy to Chester & Eriksen to Fabregas (-4)*
    C) Save FT

*Not one for taking unnecessary hits but feel this one may pay off in the long run! Any advice?

i asked myself the same question, and think it's just wise to jump on now before the rise. people overrating city/spurs, i can see liverpool scoring both games. city nearly copped 2 by newcastle!

The midfield could be a knee jerk central this season...

There are so many top quality midfielders that at some point every single one will be 'essential' the problem is you have to have them before they boom or you'll have them a couple of weeks and miss the next one.

SILVA/MATA/FAB/STERLING/HAZ/RAMSEY/SANCHEZ/YAYA/ERIKSEN/ and theres probably even more like BRUNT for instance....

This season I feel may reward the one who keeps faith in his midfield he has, rather than the one chasing the guy that just scored a big points haul.. only for the one you just transferred out to get the points the next week.

Obviously playing the fixtures can help, but big midfields get points hauls against anyone.

Thats just my opinion, what do you think?

Feel like this is basically it (one of the reasons I like 3-5-2 for now actually) but equally might be important just to ride the train on a few of the bandwagons to pick up a bit of cash. Fabregas will probably score similiar to mata yet gets you a bit of cash.

I'm holding for a few weeks... His stats looked good and would have got a decent score if he'd put the penalty away.

    Begovic / Krul
    Caulker / Chambers / B.Davies / C.Davies / PvA
    Albrighton / Cesc / Mata / Siggy / Sterling
Diego Costa / Giroud / Rooney

    A) B.Davies > Clyne
    B) B.Davies & Mata > Clyne & Ramsey -4
    C) B.Davies & Mata > Hutton & Hazard -4
    D) Other

    Cheers

      A. hold mata since ramsey isn't rising like crazy. i personally went mata > sterling because i needed an extra 0.1 to do hendo > siggy. in your position it's probably wise to see how mata goes against sunderland

i told myself that i will not be afraid to take hits this season, and so i have taken my first -4. mata/henderson > sterling/siggy, giving me a mid of ramsey/fab/sterling/siggy. ok?

Jovetic will most likely play at least one more game before Aguero starts ahead of him right?

      I think so.

Doubt Aguero will be rushed back in. They made that mistake before and its hurt them. Looks set to be eased back in this time around...

😯 Speechless! Rio got a bonus point!!

Was for failing to mark to prevent Hull scoring or for messing up the tap in to even the score?

Collecting the ball from the keeper and tapping it sideways I expect.
