Cesc Fabregas grabs a pair of assists as Chelsea overcome Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. Diego Costa nets on his league debut, while Branislav Ivanovic and Andre Schurrle are also amongst the goals as the Blues get off to an impressive start.

Chelsea New Boys Dazzle in Burnley Destruction
Positioned in the Blues double-pivot alongside Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas showed that, despite a deep-lying role, he looks poised to play a major part in our Fantasy seasons. The Spaniard pulled the strings for Jose Mourinho’s side in an outstanding first-half display that harvested a pair of assists and the maximum bonus points as he overshadowed the pricier Eden Hazard in the Chelsea midfield.

Up front, Diego Costa continued the momentum that saw him score four times over the summer friendlies. Drafted in by 37% of FPL managers prior to the weekend, the former Atletico Madrid man was second only to Wayne Rooney in last week’s Captain Poll and his predatory instincts will surely persuade more to invest as Mourinho’s men welcome Leicester, Swansea and Villa to the Bridge in the next five.

Schurrle Stakes a Claim
The German’s excellent strike also brings him onto radars as a potential mid-price option. Coming in at just 7.5, Schurrle scored eight times in just over 1400 minutes last season, with an average of 176.4 minutes per goal quicker than any Chelsea player – currently sitting in just 6% of FPL sides, he looks a real prospect if he can retain the role on the right of the attacking midfield three.

Luis and Cech Warm the Blues Bench
Mourinho started last season’s back-four for the Burnley clash as new signing Filipe Luis was named amongst the substitutes, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic fielded as full-backs. Clearly, though, the new boy won’t be expected to sit on the bench every week and it may not be for a number of matches before we get a clear idea of Mourinho’s intentions – there seems little conclusions can be made on last night’s team sheet. Thibaut Courtois got the nod ahead of Petr Cech for the number one jersey, though before the match, the Blues boss added further uncertainty to the situation by stating:

“Thibaut is my number one tonight against Burnley. I don’t make decisions for the season; I make decisions for a match.”

Arfield’s Budget Appeal
The Clarets man was one of only three budget midfielders to get amongst the goals this week, along with Ki Sung-Yeung and Lee Cattermole. Having netted eight times in last year’s Championship, Arfield carries the main scoring threat in the centre of the park in Sean Dyche’s side and, after proving his capabilities against a side that chalked up 18 clean sheets last season, could come into contention as a cheap fifth midfield option.

Atm my team looks like this:

    Krul / Foster

    Terry / Jones / PvA / Chester / Moore

    Mata / Ramsey / Eriksen / Siggy / Marney

    Rooney / Costa / Dzeko

My plan is to stick with this team and maybe next week downgrade Terry and upgrade Eriksen -> Cesc/Sterling

Sound plan or would you do something different?

posting my team because it is so similar to yours in each area....

        Krul / Foster
        Terry / Jones / Caulker / Chambers / Wisdom
        Mata / Hazard / Eriksen / Siggy / Davis
        Rooney / Costa / Austin.

        +0.5 ITB

I'll give Austin a couple more games i'm pretty sure. if he fails will transfer out for whichever budget forward starts firing.

No idea what to do here...anything stand out at you to fix? Thinking i'll save my transfer this week, got a crap score [37 -Siggy on the bench] but think it was just a duff gameweek and that this will be righted soon enough.

I agree with the top decision as both Hull and AVL have more solid defs than QPR.
I would go Bojan > Anichebe personally rather than Weimann as he's a nailed starter and frees up .5mil for your midfield should you need it.

    Hi all,

After leaving a ghost team last season (I moved to from Liverpool to London with my girlfriend a year ago and the new city/job distracted me from FF), I am back on FPL and FFS! Hopeful of getting somewhere near the 296 I managed 2 years ago (let’s face it, it’s never gonna happen…)

My first predicament of the season is what to do with Jovetic. The strikers in the 8.0 and below bracket are rather uninspiring, and I’m not sure I want to downgrade anyone here:

    Foster/Krul
    P. Jones/Caulker/N. Taylor/Bruce/Wisdom
    Sanchez/Fabregas/Sigurdsson/Mata (Marney)
    Costa/Rooney/Jovetic

Sanchez to Ramsey is an option, and many may say to downgrade Mata, but both are very knee-jerky – I picked them both for a reason, and that hasn’t altered after 1 blank. Hold and save the transfer for the week?

That's what I'm thinking, I could do with another week - the first week doesn't feel like enough evidence to make big decisions. I also want to devise some strategy to get Aguero in, and I don't want to waste a FT this week and regret it.

One last repost before i calm down.. 🙂

Is this a strong enough team to aim for? with my current team and thought process with 3 upfront this is where it's heading(headed towards one of 2 potential teams.. one with the players in caps and the other in brackets)

    Krulliott
    Terry Caulker Chester Hutton MOORE(Clyne)
    Ramsey Eriksen Siggy TADIC(Hendo) MARNEY(JWP)
    Rooney Sturridge Costa

Or do i need to panic and reassess and Swap Sturridge for a midprice forward and get a premium mid for TADIC(Hendo). very difficult to ignore Sterling/Fabs etc

Morning chaps. Repost from last article.
Before the weekend kicked off, the predicted top 4 went something like this:
Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Man U with Liverpool coming 5th.
After THE OPENING fixtures, have opinions changed much? Do we still see Man U in the top 4?
Have Chelsea come out and asserted their predicted dominance enough, or did a Burnley away game not tell us much?

As a German I'm eyeing him since long ago, doesn't strike me as a player who's versatile enought to be played in every situation / vs every team. Having so many top players I don't see Mou starting him everytime. Still can score last 15-20 mins as well as a sub so yeah, no idea what to do! Should be Hazard really but that price...

Ok guys lets just see what you think of this...

    At the moment:

    Begovic
    Ivanovic - Clyne - Caulker - Chester - Moore
    Rambo - Cesc - Tadic - Lamela - Siggy
    Costa - Rooney - Naismith

Thinking of eventually dropping Ivanovic to Bertrand to double up on Saints for their fixtures (I trust them) to free up funds, and I really want to have both Sterling AND Aguero come GW3/4.

Would it be ludicrous to do Bertrand + Sterling in for Ivan + Lamela to catch the price rises if I'm planning on it a week later anyway..?

It's -4 instead of 2 FTs, but I get all of Sterling's value increase and I have double Saints at home to West Brom.

So, save the FT or go for the value?

*sigh* fiiiine... I had been hoping to keep it until GW3 this year but I suppose you're right, need to kill that Lamela infection.

Personally, I wouldn't transfer Silva out before 2 home games.

Hi, my team for GW2 is this:

    Bego (Myhill)
    P. Jones, Filipe Luis, Clyne (Hutton, Bruce)
    Siggy, Ramsey, Mata, Fabregas (hoilett)
    Bojan, Rooney, Costa

Are Filipe Luis or hoilett due to drop in price?
Should I take a 4 point hit to transfer one of them? (already used a transfer)
If so which one and for who?

    Thanks

Good team. I wouldn't take a 4 point hit here tbh.

Although i had a half decent gameweek, im considering a wild card.... call me crazy... but!!!!! my theory is now gameweek one is over i pretty much know who number one goal keepers are, which 4.0 4.5 defenders have a good chance of starting, so now i can draft a team strong up top with confidence that my 4.5 defenders have a good chance of starting... as in weeks to come the team i build now will be impossible to do.. due to price rises on the usual suspects in both defence and up top... so although risky strategy if its top heavy your after - nows the time....

    thoughts???

Early wildcards aren't necessarily a bad thing, but I'd wait at least another week or two before you do it. Starting line ups can still be unsettled at this stage.

yeah agreed mate , but i see a lot of 4.1 and 4.6 happenuing in the few weeks including keepers, good thing is this year there are quite a few in that bracket...so maybe i do have a few weeks to see 😉

a question directed at the fpl elites. i missed out on siggy rise and bought him at 6.1 (noob mistake) and as a result have 0.4 left over which is pretty much useless. is this a big deal in the long run? after all i still make the profit from the 0.2 rise remaining. the fact that i missed the rise is really starting to bother me

It's not a big deal in the long run but could be annoying in the short term unless you want someone who's only just risen.

It's no problem at all. The 0.4 may look useless now but next week you'll be able to upgrade with it. Also down the line you might sell Siggy at an odd number, and make exactly the same amount in transfer value than someone who bought him at 6.0. So no need to worry.
