With Gameweek 1 concluded, it’s time to delve a little deeper into the data in our first “Big Numbers” article for members of the campaign. We analyse the display of Arsenal’s new wide man against Palace, the QPR front pairing at home to Hull, Liverpool’s ever-improving youngster, Southampton’s delivery under Ronald Koeman and United’s weekend scorer in the 2-1 home loss to Swansea.
Which two would you play from
BDavies, Caulker and Austin?Open Controlsarmond traore won the most aerial duels in gw1, obviously
Open ControlsFelipe luis not playing next week should see him getting a nice decrease for what's probably imminent enough a starting role for him.
Open ControlsFor a player of his (from what I've heard/read) quality & fee paid, I'd be dissapointed if he doesn't start... Wouldn't surprise me if Mourihno keeps same defense as last night... But there are understandable reasonings why he didn't play & leads me to believe (in hope) he starts
If he doesn't, I'm sellingOpen Controls
Hey guys.
My team:

Question: should I
a) sell Hazard tonight and get Fabregas, upping my bank to £2.0 so I can improve on my gk(s)/mutch/bojan later?
b) keep the FT and hope for the best, even though Haz could easily drop 0.1 soon?Open ControlsHazard will drop Friday night I think.
Open ControlsWill probably be back up to 9m come Sunday.
Open Controls
Still not even near a decision. 🙁
Open ControlsFook it, I'll leave Hazard in, he did me good so many times before. Cheers guys!
Open Controls
I wish I hadn't seen that Ice challenge youtube vid. I need to know they are ok 🙁
Open ControlsWhich I've challenge?
Open Controlssurely it wouldnt have been uploaded otherwise. unless it's a fake
Open ControlsIt looked incredibly heavy and her neck buckled quite violently...
Open Controlsyes... AB shouldn't have posted that... i assume they are ok, if not we already knew in news about that

Open Controls
Debuchy or Terry out for Clyne?
Obviously Chelsea have the better fixtures.
CheersOpen ControlsArteta could be out for a few months. If Wenger doesn't sign a CDM then it could be likely Chambers gets the nod ahead of Flamini. Will be very interesting to see how he lines up on Saturday and next Wednesday ...
Open ControlsArteta injury confirmed?
Open Controls
Who to replace Reece James with on my FT?
1) Naylor
2) Kelly / Mariappa
3) Vlaar / Hutton
4) Chester
Rest of my defense:
Krul - Foster
Caulker - Clyne - Pieters - PVAOpen ControlsI've finally done the Mata > Fabregas switch after debating it for quite a while now. It feels great, if I'm honest. 😀

Need to be keeping Mata - great player with 5 great fixtures coming up

- Sexism among Fantasy managers is wrong
Right here's the thing guys.
I do my very best, particularly where Southampton are concerned, to give you my advice and analysis. And for the most part, people engage with it and provide good discussion and feedback and I really enjoy it. Some of you have been really encouraging about my PhD and I've enjoyed chatting about other things.
However, you all assume that there aren't many women on this site because not many play FPL. Well I know lots of ladies that play FPL but don't come on this site. And I always wondered why. Well I know why.
Casual sexism is thrown around all the time and slowly it grates on you. Then you become even more likely to be wound up and that just invites more sexist based abuse. The Ramsey joke was fine until I got called 'darlin' and to 'calm down' DC-style. If it's not that, I get called a Guy In Real Life or I get casual abuse for being a woman. If I was getting racist abuse, none of you would think it was funny.
You want advice when it comes to the Saints line up and prospects - well the least you can do is return me the courtesy of being respectful. We live in 2014, I have every right to be here as much as you do.Open ControlsAre you a woman then?
Open ControlsI haven't seen any sexism around. You should report their comment, Lucy,
Open ControlsPerhaps you could change your username? That way no-one's aware of your gender.
Open Controlsfacepalm
Open Controls
I think most people respect you regardless what gender you are. You give good advice I think. There will always be a few idiots on the internet - keyboard warriors, etc. Just ignore them. 🙂
Open ControlsI'm sure a lot respect you, you're a good poster.
Open ControlsRespect. I have no problem taking advice regardless of age / gender / race or whatever. Should be the same for everyone.
Open ControlsI dont care if a poster is male or female. A lot of posters hide behind their names, to hide who they really are im sure there are lots of female and posters. Dont take it any disagreements or banter personally or as sexism. If youre a guy or a girl who cares.
Open ControlsDon't forget the hermaphrodites.
Open ControlsSome of the banter, e.g. 'Darlin' is clearly and undeniably sexism. One bloke wouldn't call another bloke 'darlin'. It's used to belittle.
Open ControlsOK, fair enough. I didnt think it was like that... I may have missed this understood. Agree that is out of order. Personally I dont care about the sex of the poster, and anyway we're just going on name here.
Open ControlsI might but I'm a weird one, just ask Doosra 😉
Open Controls
I agree with you, Lucy. There's always been a subtext of laddish banter on this site and the virtual complete absence of women is a result of this.
The moderators deal with the most blatant examples of this but are by no means as hardline on sexism as they are on racist comments and (occasionally, but not always) homophobia.Open ControlsThanks for this, from a Southampton girl to a Pompey dweller 😉 I'm glad you appreciate there are sexist undertones. And I totally agree that the site's attitude to sexism is different to its position on racism and homophobia.
Open Controls
Absolutely agree. Well said. There are several other ladies here too, by the way.
Open ControlsI know Doos. I hope I speak for them too. Thanks for the support 🙂
Open ControlsThere is a lot of casual bullying going on, often dressed up as "The winning mentality".
Some mods are instigators of it. None do anything about it.
It is a complete pain in the arse.Open ControlsWhy isn't anything done about it? What other examples have you seen?
Open ControlsBecause the policyholder values winning above everything else. 🙂
Open Controls
I certainly hope people haven't been taking a pop at you either Doos.
Open ControlsAll the time, mate. 🙂
Open Controls😕 That grates on me certainly.
While I may not always agree with you on players or picks occasionally, I understand you have put thought into them and respect you enough to know that there is an underlying reason to it.Open ControlsThat is all I really need. I respect that totally.
I am very glad that you have joined LAWR. 🙂Open ControlsI miss these things occasionally, I assume better from people but that is not always the case.
I am very glad of the invite given that I had pressing matters last year I'm now a bit more free to enjoy it (I say that despite being about to start my 1st year as a med student 😆 )Open Controls😆 Yes ... your life may be about to go mad, I feel. But fun times. Enjoy it!
Open Controls
Yeah this is more of a rule then anything else, but you take it with grace i might ad......
People seem to forget that opinions are free and that it is a gift that we are not all thinking alikeOpen ControlsGood man! 🙂
Open Controls
Here you really hit the head of the nail Doosra, well said.....
as i said below about trolling by asteemed members, i meant even some of the mods.Open ControlsI know. 🙂
Open Controls
We take bullying and derogatory remarks about other posters very seriously and have taken considerable action already to delete comments and prevent those that do it from posting. With 10k comments a day there will be some that may get missed but I can assure you this is an issue we take very seriously. If complaints were raised and not acted on I apologise and will look into it. Please continue to flag anything that you believe to be bullying and sexist.
Open Controls
Whats your PhD?
And internet is the hiding place for all kinds of idiots. Me i get pissed when i see revered/asteemed members constantly trolling, i can't i agine how boring a life must be to use hours a day to wind up users, espescially newbies and if they fon't have a grav it's a contest to wind the person....
But then again, this is internet, home of the cowardly anonymous ppl that irl has nothing to come up with..... it is just hard to accept and one should notOpen ControlsFFS T&Cs:
'Harassment, defamatory remarks, abuse, threatening behaviour, harmful, obscene, sexist, sexually oriented, homophobic, racially offensive or any objectionable material, will not be tolerated'Open ControlsI think it's pathetic that you've received condescending mockery from posters here, especially when one bears in mind that you are THE person to go to for Southampton info and people are often seen asking if you're around.
However, this is a huge social issue that goes deeper than FFS. Clubs, the FA etc can only do so much. The issue is people are idiots. I've been to Stamford Bridge and seen racist comments made at black players by Chelsea fans and the seen them praise the black player who tackles the abused, all whilst the imbecile holds his son's hand; I've had Chelsea fans tell me that Terry is a legend for racially insulting Ferdinand and laughed about it.
I'm not saying that one prejudice is worse than the other, but if racism is till going on when it is arguably looked upon by society as more taboo than sexism, then things are gonna take centuries to change. The issue is society is full of morons and many of these said morons flock to football. Sadly, that includes here too, but the best way we can deal with them is just boot em off the site: zero tolerance.Open ControlsAt least we can be grateful that in the UK things are gradually getting better. Italy are moving further and further backwards. Did you see who they appointed head of the Italian FA?
Open ControlsWe like to make out we are so much better, but we're not. People start voting for further to the right parties because of their own selfish motives: they don't think of the greater good. They are only concerned with their money, their jobs, their race, their demographic, and screw everyone else if it causes them some loss. Capitalism is partly to blame, as is the 'dog eat dog' survival of the fittest mentality we are now taught, and also the lack of moral guidance given by the major world religions.
FFS is the least of our worries, but at least it could be a safe haven.Open ControlsYou want to be careful of bringing politics into this. It is NOT the case that left-wing voters are all lovely philanthropists, nor is it the case that all right-wing voters are heartless bigots. Even as a generalisation I would seriously question its accuracy. Capitalism does NOT equate to selfishness nor does Socialism equate to selflessness. There are morons in all camps but there are ethical and moral people in all, well, nearly all camps too. I'd be wary of suggesting what people think or what their motives are as well - it's a fair bet you don't precisely know what other people think.
By the way, did you read the piece on racism by Matthew Syed in The Times a few weeks back? It was thought-provoking and as good a piece of journalism as I've read in quite a while.Open Controls
That is a very good question. I guess uncomfortable things aren't so swiftly stickied. Maybe I should have tacked some analysis on JWP at the end 😉
Open ControlsIndeed! 😆
Open Controls
Liverpool are looking at signing Song (but Lucas may need to leave), a back up keeper and one of Falcao, Balotelli, Cavani, Bony or Eto'o, in that order.
My colleague spoke to Rodgers himself on Sunday and was told that he turned down Sanchez because he was more interested in his contract than the club he was playing for.
Maybe this will get it stickied...Open ControlsIt is now. Hulked it as soon as I saw it for the first time this morning. Lucy makes an excellent point.
Open ControlsThanks Jonty. I appreciate your support on the matter. I got very short shrift from Evs last night who refused to recognise it as hot topic worthy because it apparently wasn't relevant.
Open ControlsFYI...
I flagged this to Jonty on your behalf last night so he could follow through with you this morning and deal with appropriately as community manager.
You always had my support, and always will on such matters.
Cheers
EvsOpen Controls
I know I don't but if I do wind you up from time to time, it is not because you are a woman, it is because I am a Glaswegian and we like to wind people up. 😉
Open ControlsShameful that this is not hulked, but as Doosra said " policyholders value winning over everything else".
This regarding the trolling from above, not the sexism but of coursf that to should get this hulked like bruce banner pissed ofOpen ControlsReally appreciate all the advice and insight you give to the community about Southampton, Lucy. Keep up the good work.
Open ControlsAnyone who is female put an 'F' before your username so we can get used to who we are talking to, it will all balance out then.
Open ControlsNice to see some moderation taking place, even on this post. What a good start. Many thanks to Jonty! Maybe he can brief fellow mods and managers on the right way to deal with these things, particularly the ones that cast the issues as irrelevant.
Open ControlsSo Lucy, what girly things do you do when you are not watching footy, working on your PhD or on here?
Open Controls
This is a fantastic post. Well said Lucy.
It is, however, still prevalent in the workplace and normal day life, so unfortunately it's always likely to occurs on a website forum where users can hide behind an avatar.
Hopefully, your post will go some way in changing the mentality on this website forum at the least.
Hat off.Open ControlsHooray! It is a hot topic! Well done, Lucy.
Open ControlsNice one, Jonty - thank you. And Evs. 🙂
Open Controls
Your introduction, the irony. 😆
Great post. http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/08/19/scout-notes-gameweek-1-monday-3/?hc_page=14#hc_comment_7980023 Was already on your side before it 😉Open Controlsvery well said Lucy 🙂
this post is a great reminder to us all of our moral obligations...discrimination of any sort is not on...racism is the main thing that people care about, but homophobia and sexism are just as important issues...
most people appreciate your work a lot too 🙂Open ControlsBit late on this one. You shouldn't have to stand for it and it is completely unacceptable behaviour, but sadly still prevalent in today's society.
It's good that you let the mods know about it though and that's the best way forward. I've been involved with trying to moderate a large site before and it's very tricky without the users themselves helping out with reporting abuse - I do believe that the mods are strongly against this behaviour, they just can't police everything by themselves.
Hope you stick around and things improve for you, get the idiots banned and then enjoy your experience on the site 🙂Open ControlsCrikey. This post is going to lead a revolt outside the House of Commons. I can see it now. Together as one, men and women of FFS.
Open ControlsHey Lucy
I hope I haven't personally caused offence or promoted sexism on the site either through action or inaction, but as part of the moderation team (I think we're all still confused as to how that happened) I should shoulder some of the responsibility for this. I've noticed one or two remarks recently which have been aimed at you and not acceptable - those were dealt with, I can't speak for any of the other posts you may be alluding to unfortunately. As to the general culture/tone of the site; that's a much harder problem to identify and tackle, doesn't mean we shouldn't try though.
I get the impression I don't need to ask you to keep posting but I will anyway - you're much valued, Illegitimi non carborundum 😉Open Controlsi think a lot of people just don't realise they are being sexist & when you flag it up with them you get called PC& they can't see what they've done wrong
it's endemic and it's a great shame
well done for bringing it up, i wholeheartedly support this stanceOpen ControlsOh come on. Can't we just get on with the game without the PC brigade
Open ControlsOr we could try to just get on with the game without making sexist remarks? That might work too.
Open Controls
Well, I didn't know you're a woman till now and I don't care really.
This community exists because of the dedication of its members to fantasy football regardless of age/ gender/race/nationality. That's what I really like about this place!
Sexism is really not a common thing around here though. You should report the comments you find offending.Open ControlsExcellent post. Just want to add that I have had issues with derogatory comments re intellectual disabilities and the use of the word r****d and m**g being bandied about in the past...The mods have been great and have removed posts due to the offence it causes to me, and I'm sure to other posters. I'm sure you will get the same support...Good stuff.
Open ControlsHave you really starred out mong?
Open ControlsYES...ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING TERM WHEN YOU HAVE A CHILD WITH DOWN SYNDROME...Why do people think it's ok to use that term as an insult to each other..What do think it sounds like to somebody who has Down Syndrome when they hear that term used ?...and the R****d word...If you are in any doubt about the offence those terms cause have a read of this page for an hour...https://www.facebook.com/EndtheWord?ref=ts&fref=ts

Logged in just to +1 this.
Lucy I've enjoyed your posts and I feel the same about some of the posters on here.
I struggle to ignore some of the less intelligent posters and would like to see a function on the site that allows you to remove specified posters comments when logged in and looking at the comments section.Open ControlsCool idea but would do nothing to challenge dodgy attitudes. I know what you mean in general though, some people flood this site with rubbish or the same question over and over again.
Open ControlsYou might be right, but I think the support shown for you here indicates how little response forca and willis type comments would get given a chance to avoid them.
Open Controls
Late to the party, but just wanted to say that in this day and age it is not progressive to be kind to those who are different (be it due to gender, race, orientation, disability, etc.) it is human. It's a shame that in 2014 you even need to post something like this but it's the fire the site needed to have lit under it.
Open ControlsHere's my 2 pence since the whole of FFS has already commented. I agree btw
Open ControlsI am sorry to hear that you have been receiving sexist abuse, and I hope you have been reassured by all these responses that the vast majority of us are on your side.
However, the situation is far better now in my opinion than it used to be. It used to be quite common in previous seasons to see exchanges such as:
Female poster: "I'd like some advice on my team, please. (I'm a girl - blush)"
Male Chauvinist Pig: "Girls don't play fantasy football. I bet you have balls like the rest of us"
There seems to have been far less of that kind of thing this season, so perhaps the mods ARE doing their job after all. There are clearly plenty of females who do play fantasy football, and TorresMagic has suggested that we might be surprised at just how many there are. But perhaps some of them might have been scared of admitting their gender when posting and may be hiding under male or neutral pseudonyms. The situation is further confused by a small number of posters such as Christina who use male pseudonyms but admit to really being male.
Incidentally, how do you feel about male posters who use gravs of scantily clad women?
And perhaps it might help if one of the mods was a female!Open Controls
I have naughton should I replace with Chester to miss price reduction and get the increase?
Open ControlsIf you haven't done any tranfers yet, this seems fine.

My front 7 is Siggy, Hazard, Mata, Ramsey, Sturridge, Costa and Rooney. I have no intention of selling Hazard and Mata is currently looking the odd one out. He has the fixtures and individual quality, but I am worried about his team.
Problem is, with that front 7, no immediate options really stand out. Fab looks good, but triple Chelsea :/. Sterling i'd aim for in GW4 ideally.
So i'm currently in a holding pattern, but I was always inclined to WC during the international break (and pick up the deals in defenses when things settle down), so Fab for two GW's looks a bit less risky.
Anyone want to throw two cents into the ring?Open ControlsMata is just not worth it. Go for Fab or Sterling. The latter in my opinion.
Open ControlsWho do you have playing DEF/GK with all that money spent up front?
Anyway, other than that first reaction, I think that anyone without Fabergas and/or Sterling are up against it at the moment, sadly. In my case, I'm without them both.
If you've got no intention of selling Hazard, though, I'd lay off Fabergas if I was you (at least for the time being)...Open Controls
The reason i'm saying Eriksen -> Sterling is because of the price rise, & i think Mata might do decent so will keep him.
Open ControlsStarted well with 69 points!
Squad for this weekend is:
Krul (Foster)
Debuchy Jones Cameron (Van Aanholt) (Lovren)
Ramsey Sterling Eriksen Silva* (Isgrove)
Costa Rooney Bojan
I must do a transfer tonight because of prices rises, Silva to Fabregas or Siggy?Open ControlsHow would you improve this team?
Mannone / Green
Jones / Naughton / Wisdom / Hutton / Chester
Mata / Sterling / Marney / Ramsey / Eriksen
Rooney / Diego Costa / Dzeko
1 FT, £0.0m in the bank.
A) Naughton ---> Colo/PVA
B) Mata + Naughton ---> Fab + Colo/PVAOpen ControlsCurrent team:
Howard
Lovren, Debuchy, Cahill
Sterling, Ramsey, Hazard, Henderson
Rooney, Costa, Bojan
Bench: Myhill, Vlaar, El Ahmadi, Bruce

Think I've decided to take the hit and do Clyne>Lovren and Sig>Henderson. Thoughts? Also, should I trade any of my mids for Fab?Open ControlsAll,
Should I take a 4 point penalty for either of these options
1 replace hazard/O'shea for Fabregas/clyne
2 replace caulker/O'shea for clyne/Coloccini
