Janmaat is a right back which arguably is not the weakest area at all currently.

Caulker could have happened, might have been good so that's fair.
Kroos was a mercenary using United as a bargaining chip to get a bigger wage deal, backfired as he didn't actually want to leave Bayern. They sold him for a cut price because of this. Not defensive enough either.
Khedira isn't leaving, not defensive enough either.
Matuidi is one I agree with absolutely. He's a DM that United need.
