We delve into the Gameweek 5 data this evening in our first members article of the week. Wayne Rooney’s new role for United comes under analysis, as do Burnley and Leicester’s displays up front, whilst a couple of north London-based frontmen are also placed under the microscope after their contrasting weekend performances.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Getting nearer with little help from my friends 🙂

Dump Mata, Rooney and Bojan > ADM, Ulloa & Pelle for 4 point hit?

    Will leave:

    Mannone (SWA)

Clyne (QPR) , Wisdom (BUR) and Taylor (sun)

Ramsey (TOT), ADM (WHU), Sterling (EVE) , Fábregas (AVL,) ADM (WHU),

Pelle (QPR), Ulloa (cpl) Costa (AVL)

Bench: Krul, Siggy (sun), Rio, Chester

Or just do Mata > ADM, Rooney > Pelle for free and play Siggy?

    Thanks

Yeah, I've got my eye on City defenders, particularly Mangala. Hart and Kolarov are interesting but probably won't happen for me.

With Baines, Clyne, Chambers though its hard to justify having another heavy defender though as someone with a great fixture will have to sit some weeks which isn't ideal.

I think Pelle. He gets far more scoring chances even if he's been less clinical so far.

Leicesters goal conversion rate is at 18%, 2nd only to Chelsea, and I don't think they can keep that up. Ulloa should still see enough goals to make him worth his price in gold.

Just to put some meat on the bones of the Ivanovic debate

Chances conceded across the Chelsea back line by Left right and centre

    Ivanovic's side 27 Centre 9 Azpis's side 11

Only the right hand side of Leicester (34) have conceded more chances than Ivanovic's position

In context...Ivanovic's side of defence have conceded 27 chances whilst the whole back line of Soton have conceded only 26 chances for the season so far.

Aye..fantastic. I'm all for the Coleman. Ivanovic and Baines's of this world..I'm just putting some numbers to the debate. Only Mourinho knows what hereally thinks about Ivanovic and he's saying nowt. I suspect he rather likes it or he'd be clipping his wings.

The trick with attacking full backs, as with Coleman and Baines, is that if they go forward the CDM's stay put..so in effect you still have a back four..The odd thing with Chelsea is that they are lop sided..Ivanovic is playing one game whilst Azpi is doing the opposite and playing a more conservative game...Both great but lop sided..

I don't have statistical evidence to support this, but I would imagine things are made defensively significantly worse by Fab consistently making runs into the box and hanging around the edge of the box as well leaving Matic all alone to do a job of two people.

I have neither. Rooney just lost his value big-time by playing so deep (as described in the article above). ADM isn't gonna keep scoring like he has been when he isn't facing QPR and Leicester. Big Sam up next...

I agree, but the way he's involved in almost every United counter is eye-catching. Easily the most 'essential' United player in my opinion, especially now Rooney is as much as a mid as him.

Yeah for sure. He's the most valuable player to have from their team right now, but I am still not convinced he can keep this up against teams who will set up to destroy him.

After doing Lovren>Baines in GW8 for 1.4, I'll have another 2.0m itb.... What would you do with it here?

    Begovic Krul
    Lovren/Baines Clyne Chambers Taylor Wisdom

The only obvious thing I can see is Tadic/Ramsey to Di Maria, provided they keep respective forms -- which I expect to happen. Other than that, maybe Krul to Guzan/Heaton, too.

      1. rickardinho
        • 11 Years
        11 years, 2 months ago

Yeah those have crossed my radar. If I trade Krul it would most likely be for a 4.0 like McCarthy though. I've given up on the rotation as Begovic will play most games until at least GW13 anyways.

          • 12 Years

Could be one. That'd free up some much needed cash so you can do Tadic to Di Maria. Don't trust United, but given their scoring form, I'd definitely consider having someone from them.

            • 11 Years

They'll score goals no doubt about it, i just think they'll be evenly spread across their main guys just like they were against Leicester. ADM will get subbed early sometimes too, same goes for their other strikers.

Well yeah stuff happens, but the Lovren>Baines trade is a no-brainer in GW8. My 2nd FT until then needs sorting out though. Tadic>DiMaria is already out of reach but I'm not sure I'd do that anyways due to Southampton's fixtures being so good for the next 6 compared to United.

If I trade Ramsey it'll most likely be for Walcott anyways. I like the idea of having lots of options with only 1FT with so much money itb though. Usually it takes two transfers to make things happen when it involves upgrading someone.

Anyway, was playing a bit here and I can't believe I can actually afford this WC team. Should I hit the confirm button, anyone? Advices?

    Mannone, Heaton
    Ivanovic, Baines, Clyne, Duff, Hutton
Di Maria, Fabregas, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Boyd
    Costa, Welbeck, Pelle

    Thanks in advance! 🙂

Cheers for the reply, Walsh. Current team, which has given me three red arrows in a row now, is as follows:

        Krul, Mannone
Cahill, Dier, van Aanholt, Wisdom, Hutton
        Ramsey, Sigurdsson, Sterling, Silva, Albrighton
        Costa, Rooney, Adebayor

        Bit of a no-brainer, right?

By the way, awesome back four. Was planning to double/triple-up on Chelsea's defence, too, but I'm afraid going without Costa is the same as going without Suarez last season!

            Anyway, Knicks fan? 😉

Yeah I like it - bit different - I usually play this game to have fun and hope for a good rank. I like it at the moment. Costa did me too dirty with hamstring-gate after week two and I have yet to forgive him so I will be going without for the foreseeable future. I hate the NBA, so not really. 🙂

That looks very formidable mate. It is amazing what downgrading a 2nd forward and 5th midfielder can do for your first XI. I wouldn't WC but each to their own. Thats a good team right there.

Cheers for the reply, Dinho! Your team's looking pretty good as well, so I'd keep the WC if I were you. Just consider the things I mentioned on your post above. As for myself, see my team in the reply above, I guess I don't have other option! 😛

          Thanks man.

If I were you I wouldn't WC this week. You can put out a very solid team already. If you have a FT maybe trade Adebayor to Pelle and you're good to go.

          Krul
          Cahill, van Aanholt, Wisdom
          Ramsey, Sigurdsson, Sterling, Silva
          Costa, Rooney, Adebayor
          (Mannone Dier Hutton Albrighton)

I've decided to play this game as if my WC doesn't exist. Easier to find rational solutions when I don't think about the get-out-of-jail card all the time. That way I'll only use it in a freak situation when loads of injuries strike, or I'll have it in the run-in for DGW's. The team will never be totally perfect, but week-on-week I can make one or two trades that move my team to where I want it to be with a view of fixtures 3-4 weeks ahead.

Another piece of advice I read on here a few weeks ago is to treat every transfer as a hit, even if its with a FT. If you wouldn't do the transfer if it cost you -4, then don't do it at all.

Makes sense, mate. Ideally, I'd love to do like you and keep it. The thing, though, is I don't want to see the likes of Di Maria, Fabregas, Pelle and even Welbeck, maybe, rising their prices and they being not able to afford them later on. On top of that, I'm in desperate need of strengthening my defence. Had only one cleanie in the last two GWs, so I must get a Burnley and Southampton defender in, too. That's why I'm considering doing that!

            1. rickardinho

CS's are hard to predict. Not many people would have got multiple CS's from the last couple of gameweeks, apart from the lucky few who had Burnley and Southampton defenders. I wouldn't make massive trades when you have defenders who could just as well get CS's next week.

I can understand the value issue, but there's so many different players to choose from that you just can't have them all. ADM has already risen once this GW so you'd probably only gain 0.1 anyways which doesn't seem worthwhile.

Up to you though of course 🙂

Very similar to my squad for GW6, but I've elected to keep a cheap back line and money in the bank for flexibility. Using this approach, I can pivot to any of the following strategies: 1) shore up back line at a later date, 2) invest in 5th midfielder if forwards do not pan out, 3) upgrade to Kun if I ever feel the need.

With your line-up, you've effectively chosen option 1) in advance. This could work well.

Cheers for the insight, mate. Yes, I was thinking the same thing. But, as you said, in case Aguero gets hot, I can easily downgrade Ivan/Baines and then do Welbeck/Pelle to him. But, yes, if I need to get a good 5th mid, then I wouldn't have this option! Let's see how things goes, though. I feel it's more likely to see a more urgent striker raise than anything else.

you need someone who's guaranteed to start as a 3rd striker though, and for his good game against United, vardy isn't nailed... not yet anyways. I'm happy to bench ulloa in anycase, and think the extra 0.7 outlay is repayed by him being in the box so much and also on pens when nugent is off.

What % of the top 10K do you think will own ADM by deadline?

wow he's up another 21% today... (trusting TFPL)

I'd say the top 10k would have a lower incidence for ownership than overall given they generally would be more discriminating and weigh the pros and cons (pros being ADM and who he is; cons being United's upcoming fixtures and their overall form)

Not many of the top 10k at this stage are usually in the top 10k come the end of the season. They are usually just bandwagon jumpers and the exact types to jump on the likes of adm

I think top 10k stats are still meaningless at this stage. Obviously those that jumped on the bandwagons will be up there.

They must have the core players making it harder for those chasing.

Its too early to say who the core players even are. Its far to early and too small a sample size to assume all those in the top 10k are there on skill alone and will be difficult to chase down.

                        4 mids over 73%
                        Costa & a choice of 2 forwards
                        Defence/goal keepers is anyone.

5 core attackers at least. Rooney is near 60%.

Very true. Rooney is the enabler with Ulloa, Pelle & Welbeck allowing the Di Maria upgrade.

Also just to prove there's truth to Ryan's point, Krul is still the most selected keeper ATM.

Are those 4 mids going to be essential are they? nobody can know that for sure, certainly not at this stage. Blimey, we might all end up playing 433 in a couple of weeks and there might be no reliable midfielders.

                            433 😕

Essential no, some are playing 5 mids with great success. Juggling the attackers well is where the main points are. Ramsey has now been discarded from that status.

433 was a thing last year. If this weekend produces a host of clean sheets and the mids fail to fire don't be surprised to see some people considering a 433, particularly with Baines about to start a good run of fixtures.
