It’d be fair to say that when the pre-season player lists were revealed last July, Stewart Downing was far from our thoughts as a viable Fantasy option. A goal and two assists over 2,507 minutes in 2013/14 highlights his lack of impact in a West Ham outfit that scored just 40 times over the entire campaign, and despite reports suggesting Sam Allardyce’s side were set to go on the attack this time around, we were anything but convinced.

After five Gameweeks, though, the Hammers are starting to deliver. A 3-1 win over Liverpool means they have now scored nine times so far – averaging of 1.8 goals per match compared to last year’s 1.05 – and, from a Fantasy perspective at least, Downing has been the player to benefit most. A total of 27 points is just six off the top of the midfield standings in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and sees the 5.5-priced Downing sandwiched in between Aaron Ramsey and Eden Hazard, on 28 and 25 points respectively.

With a goal, two assists and six bonus points accrued, Downing’s prospects could be boosted further by a switch in formation which afforded him the role in “the hole” behind Enner Valencia last weekend.

In our next members article of the week, we turn to the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables in order to assess the 2%-owned Downing’s displays in comparison to the season gone by.

For those who aren’t familiar with them, KPI tables are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or changes in player performance. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain whether a player’s form has improved or declined. As mentioned in last summer’s introductory article, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

      I seriously do.
Firstly, he could be a great cheap option and I love his pace
Secondly, he could help Aguero to score more goals 😉

Southampton in the last 4 games:
    3 CSs (joint highest)
    1 goal conceded (joint lowest)
    Least shots in box conceded
    Least long-range shots conceded
    Least headed efforts conceded
    Least chances conceded

My GW 4 Forster/Clyne/Bertrand punt is looking a very wise move indeed... 🙂

    A) Krul for the next 2 and then Krul ➡ Howard from GW8 onwards

    or

    B) Krul ➡ Forster and stick with him from now on

-1. Had this 3 for 2 weeks and it's not worth having the midfield in a shambles. Costa, Aguero for sure as they are proven but was silly of me to bring in Falcao before he was even guaranteed minutes. Saint or Leicester buck for third spot

Before the season started, he was supposedly the best pick of the Leicester midfield.

Just one of those things. Pearson's unlikely to change his line-up when the foxes are gel-ing, and getting the results. Albrighton will get in at some point, but until then albrighton will be rotting on our benches, or getting the boot.

Had Costa from the very start, then as soon as he was flagged as potential hamstring injury (something he has suffered with in the past) I transferred him out as I saw him as a liability, then ofc he scored a hat trick!

Im secretly hoping he gets injured to prove myself right (harsh I know!).

I would so live Kun to get a hatty this weekend, still only 9.2% ownership, classy differential for the time being, I guess if he were to do really well this week, a few wc's would be clicked!

In Kun we trust. He is my captain this GW.

I have four outstanding (c) choices this week from Kun, Costa, Pelle and ADM, finding it hard to sway from ADM though.

I would pick between Kun and Pelle. Costa may not play full 90 with a busy week coming up. As for ADM, United have no Jones, Blackett or Evans and now Daily mail says Smalling is injured too. So United will be on the back foot. I don't see a lot of goals.

If Smalling is confirmed injured, then probably yes. Depressing.

Manchester United are worried defender Chris Smalling has suffered an injury that will keep him out of the weekend match against West Ham. Louis van Gaal is already without Phil Jones, Tyler Blackett and Jonny Evans.

Anybody realize most team shares same amounts of clean sheets? Its like they're taking turns on who's gonna have CS. eg, this week arsenal next week Chelsea..

Which one is least likely to get cameo's...Sterling or Sanchez ?..I have no doubt both will be subject to a degree of rotation, which is fine if we have a decent fifth mid....but the last thing we need is ten minute cameos...So who will be most likely to get full time off when they aren't in the starting line up ?

      sterling I reckon

hes the only one with midfield pace in liverpool whereas arsenal can always fall on ramsey ox ozil wilshere and soon wally!

Sanchez I reckon...because if Liverpool play bad they will always call sterling from bench...

Aye..I agree...He can't, and doesn't need to play every game, but owning him will require a good deputy. I may keep and hope that his rests are full rests. Liverpool's best player by a distance so far is Sterling...I can see cameos every time he's rested.

Arsenal have the better bench so Sanchez slightly less likely to be needed. Tight though

Please some feedback on this WC team?

    Forster / Heaton or Scmeichel

Chambers, Bertrand, Baines, Duff, Wilson or N.Taylor

    Fabregas, Sterling, Siggy, ADM, Ramsey

    Ulloa, Costa, Welbeck

    0.5 in the bank

p.s i dont mind the benching dilemmas as injuries, rotation loom

    Thanks

I have 7 out of your front 8 (Naismith instead of Ulloa) so looks good to me - would definitely go N.Taylor over Wilson.

Drop 1 out of Aguero, Costa, Rooney and Welbeck?

Thinking the obvious answer is Welbeck but am leaning towards Rooney...

When you consider value for money as well, I think it has to be Rooney.

Not really counting value for money.. It's only for playing this week in Ultimate FPL as they all play on the Saturday.

Rooney as he'll be playing a more withdrawn role.

I have 2FTs, and nothing I want to do, BUT I picked Lloris on my WC. Should I shift him to a 4.5/5.0?

Who is the best 4.5, non-rotating GK? Heaton? Manonne?

Same dilemma here. I have 2 FTs but no concerns except Begovic doing nothing

Heaton Mannone both are equally good. Pick Manonne as he is better GK

Aye they're good....I have similar that I call implosion imminent. That Left right and centre chances conceded needs to run alongside it.
Take the Leicester stat for example...The right hand side is far leakier for chances than the left...which is why I flagged ADM as (c) pick last week...and Moses the week before. ADM worked out but even Moses had a great game without delivering against that side of the Leicester defence. Hazard will have a field day against them.

          Good stuff.
