Ahead of the weekend’s action, we take our regular look at the forthcoming fixtures and highlight those teams with the best schedules over the next four to six Gameweeks. In-form Southampton look poised to continue their impressive start, last term’s Championship winners have reason to be cheerful, whilst fortunes on Merseyside could take a turn for the better as the fixture list smiles a little more kindly.

Liverpool

“frisking

Denied the full three points in the Anfield leg of the Merseyside derby, the Reds yet again failed to convince last weekend. If they’re to maintain a credible title challenge, Brendan Rodgers needs to rapidly address shortcomings at both ends of the pitch, but he does at least have fixtures on his side for the time being. Over the next four weeks, West Brom and Hull visit Anfield whilst trips to two of the bottom three, Newcastle and QPR, also look ripe for returns.

Faith in the Liverpool defence has scarcely been lower and few would bank on Simon Mignolet whatever the fixtures. With a complete absence of resilience, most of the backline are considered dead wood for Fantasy purposes, but for those who fancy Liverpool to tighten up, Alberto Moreno has still been impressive in attack, if not in defence, and may yet reward patience. In midfield, Raheem Sterling continues to defy his team’s form and deliver results, while Steven Gerrard’s clinical set-piece delivery ensures that he stays relevant. Daniel Sturridge is hoping for a return to the fray soon, which could boost his team and may help Mario Balotelli notch his first Premier League goal for the Reds.

Leicester

“frisking

While a 2-0 loss at Crystal Palace was a sharp comedown from their previous week’s triumph over United, the defeat surely won’t dampen the Foxes’ spirits too much. Nigel Pearson’s side have some excellent fixtures on the horizon to help lift them into a well earned position in the top half of the table, beginning with a home clash against fellow promoted side Burnley this weekend. After that, the following five Gameweeks include trips to Newcastle, Swansea and Southampton as well as home fixtures with West Brom and Sunderland. Such a schedule could boost the appeal of a defence with just one shut-out to their name and also aid Leicester’s burgeoning attack.

As the ticker turns blue, Kasper Schmeichel gets a fair chance to entice Fantasy managers, while 4.0 priced Liam Moore could become a bargain. In midfield, we’re still waiting to see which – if any – budget assets emerge but Esteban Cambiasso has a proven record as a box-to-box type and has already opened his account. Cambiasso’s compatriot Leonardo Ulloa has been subject to significant interest after his high-profile heroics against United and now has the platform to add to his five goal-tally, while Jamie Vardy will be similarly hopeful of kicking on after an incredible 21-point haul in his previous home appearance.

Stoke

“frisking

Finally giving their fans a victory at the Britannia, the Potters are starting to deliver on their promise. Over the next six Gameweeks, Mark Hughes has a good-looking set of fixtures to use to his advantage and build momentum, with home matches against Swansea, West Ham and Burnley plus visits to Sunderland, Southampton and an off-key Spurs. Such fixtures could be profitable for Fantasy managers all over the pitch.

In defence, a second clean sheet brings Asmir Begovic into contention while Marc Wilson has now played every minute of the season to quash any doubts over his security. Alternatively, Marc Muniesa was given the nod over Erik Pieters last night after scoring a brace in the Capital One Cup and has huge potential if he can hold onto that place. In midfield, Victor Moses looks to be finding himself at home after his unhappy toils at Chelsea and Liverpool last season. The Nigerian seems to have struck up a partnership with evergreen Peter Crouch – both were in the points for the second match running last night and either could prove good value over these fixtures.

Southampton

“frisking

A win over QPR that, in truth, could easily have been far more comprehensive sees the Saints make a play – for the second season running – as the best value outfit across the Fantasy games. Ronald Koeman’s side have earned themselves second place in the league and have the fixtures to help strengthen their position. A visit to their old manager at Spurs will hold little fear on current form and the following five Gameweeks include three promising home matches against Sunderland, Stoke and Leicester plus visits to Hull and Aston Villa.

In a similar situation to this time last term, few Fantasy teams are now are without at least one Southampton defender and a case can easily be made for doubling up. While Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand duel for ascendency in our choice of full-back, their attacking points make goalkeeper Fraser Forster a little unappealing at the same price-point. In midfield, it seems only a matter of time before Dusan Tadic delivers on his potential, while Sadio Mane has caught the eye and comes with plenty of pedigree from the continent. Up front, Graziano Pelle now has four goals, an assist and seven bonus points and has completely overshadowed Shane Long, who may well be set for bench-warming duties as a result of Mane’s arrival.

Also Consider

Arsenal
As the injuries pile up, the fixtures mercifully begin to soften for Arsene Wenger. After this weekend’s daunting trip to Stamford Bridge, the Gunners face just two of last season’s top eight in the subsequent nine Gameweeks – while Fantasy prospects look tantalizingly good, choosing the right assets to take advantage looks a frustratingly fraught task.

Calum Chambers would be the stand-out option in defence, but for his propensity for picking up cards that sees him perched precariously on the suspension tightrope. In midfield, confirmation of Aaron Ramsey’s hamstring injury has sparked an exodus but a like-for-like replacement for Arsenal’s fixtures isn’t forthcoming with Theo Walcott not quite ready to return and Alexis Sanchez’s pitch time puzzlingly unassured. Danny Welbeck, on the other hand, does appear to be firmly in Wenger’s plans and he ought to prosper from these fixtures – at a price of 7.2 in FPL, the deadline-day signing looks exceptional value ahead of this run of matches.

Everton
A last-gasp goal from Phil Jagielka saved Roberto Martinez from further blushes as he toils to replicate his stellar first season in charge. Of course, the opening fixtures haven’t helped the Toffees, and once this week’s trip to Old Trafford is dispensed with, they have a long tract of easier ground to tread, with Aston Villa, Swansea and West Ham all rolling up to Goodison Park.

The Everton backline has been uncharacteristically porous this season but that hasn’t stopped Leighton Baines’ ascent up the Fantasy standings and the forthcoming schedule should strengthen his chances of points at both ends of the pitch. Injury to Kevin Mirallas could benefit Aiden McGeady, and while Steven Naismith seems to be taking a little breather, Romelu Lukaku could be set to ramp up his form – providing his manager stops fielding him on the wing, after the big Belgian was fielded on the right of a 4-3-3 against Liverpool.

Crystal Palace
Neil Warnock’s second reign at Crystal Palace has been anything but the disaster many had initially feared and the weekend win over Leicester showed a good balance between defence and attack. With three decent fixtures to come over the next four weeks, the Eagles have a chance to get more points on the board before battening down the hatches. Scott Dann has prospered the most in defence so far while Julian Speroni has also ticked over nicely between the posts. In midfield, Wilfried Zaha has lost his manager’s faith, handing Jason Puncheon the platform to pick up the points in four of his five appearances. We’ve yet to see the impact of the imminent return of Marouane Chamakh on Warnock’s frontline, but having sung Fraizer Campbell’s praises, it looks likely that Dwight Gayle will be the one to make way after Campbell took his tally to two goals in as many matches last weekend.

people falling into the trap of cheap forwards again. Happens every season. People consistently argue that cheaper options offer more value which they do for a period of time.

Up until the premium strikers start firing. People end up putting so much faith in the cheaper options that they end up quickly being priced out of the premium option.

      interesting, who are your forwards?

      I have Pelle, Costa, Aguero.

In terms of points per £, they probably will provide more value even at the end of the season. At some point though you have to forgo some value and just get the most points; no good having the highest value team if you've only spent £60m. Whether a cheapie is worth it really depends on which big hitters they enable you to get.

Yes this does happen every year. Iv been playing with an Aguero, Sturridge, Costa frontline but keep getting told I shouldn't do it with all the mid-priced forwards performing... That being said Pelle, Welbeck and Lukaku look good for mid-term.

I think Welbeck changes things this time. An Arsenal striker is really a premium striker. Think of it as

      Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton

Bit more expensive that one though isn't it.

I have City Chelsea Southampton so that is more expensive too, although I think the Aguero vs Pelle/Welbeck argument is a fair one.

On the flip side, only having 1 premium striker can be rather restricting. At the moment Costa seems to be a season keeper. If Aguero, Falcao, RVP or Sturridge starts firing and looks a must have it would require major surgery to upgrade the likes of Pelle or Welbeck. This is a massive inhibiting factor and can cause people to be priced out very quickly if their costs escalate.

If you can hop on the right cheap options at the right time it's probably more profitable than sticking with an expensive striker for a sustained amount of time. I have experience of this going either way, I remember keeping Berbatov through about 9 weeks of blanks before he finally delivered. But getting on the likes of Yakubu, Holt, Cissé and Jelavic. All about judgement.

When the extra money allows you to get Walcott in full flow or Hazard (if he ever gets going) then it can be worth it. Its not like anyone except Costa is returning Suarez like points. aguero is scoring a goal and getting subbed. For the 12.1 outlay I want more explosions.

For sure, based on what we've seen, Aguero's not worth it. Heck take away Costa's hattrick and he's been worth it either. All it takes is one week.

Don't agree Bemba, sorry. The cheaper options were simply scoring better. When they're not you get the ones that are. You can afford it as the cheapies will have risen in price while the expensive ones fall a little.
Also prices are so much slower to move this year you have several weeks to plan hits or the WC.

Flexibility is the name of the best strategy imo.

I've gone for Costa Ulloa Welbeck. 4 Premium mids + Siggy, Ivanovic 5m 4.5m 4m 4m & Begovic. If I have to -4 and swap a premium mid + Ulloa for a premium striker + 4.5m at a later date so be it. Siggy is off form atm but don't wanna sell, just do what's best for your Team.

One of the biggest reasons for going two premium strikers is for me that it gives you more captaincy options. Costa is having a good season so far, but I don't think he'll be quite as extreme as Suarez last year, so other options are nice. Welbeck being a 7ish Arsenal striker is nice, but unless he improves I wouldn't be comfortable captaining him.

That being said tho, no premium striker except for Costa is anywhere close to justifying his price tag atm

You can't just say it goes wrong every year, so it must be a mistake...
The stats back up these forwards.

Just like Charlie Adam for Blackpool, an attacking relegation candidate can still be a great fantasy pick! The fact the decent options are all forwards right now doesn't change hat.

Things are moving away from the template team somewhat though, especially now that Ramsey and Rooney are out. There's a lot of choice in every position now... Welbeck, Pelle, Ulloa, Aguero upfront, with Downing, Chadli, Tadic, ADM, etc shaking up the pecking order in the middle which used to be Sterling-Fab-Ramsey-Siggy.

I don't mind it, but if I was ranked really highly overall or fighting for a high place in a ML then I would be annoyed by it since people shouldn't be able to see what moves you make. It makes it easier for them to adopt blocking tactics for example.

Triggerlips, if you want a solution you could probably shuffle your first XI in the "Pick team" to change the ITB value prior to making your transfer.

For example, bench a high value player like Costa in favour of Boyd or someone else to make your ITB really inflated and confusing for anyone trying to predict your transfer.

Is there any reason why that wouldn't work?

I find it a tad ironic that you are so worried about people copying your decisions, yet you decided to create a blog designed to track the progress of your team and discuss those very same decisions.

No hate, and I agree that such information should probably be hidden, I just thought it curious.

Its not ideal but at least its fair since u can also view n guess ur opponent's transfers. Also add an extra incentive to make late transfers vs earning value by making early transfers. Especially in h2h league this "flaw" really make a difference

Which WC team do you prefer?

    (A)
    Mannone (Foster)
    Baines Bertrand Chambers (Taylor* Wisdom)
Di Maria Fab* Sterling Siggy (Boyd)
    Costa Pelle* Dzeko*

    (B)
    Mannone (Foster)
    Baines Bertrand Chambers (Moore* Wisdom)
Di Maria Tadic* Sterling Siggy (Boyd)
    Costa Aguero* Welbeck*

So basically Taylor, Fab, Pelle and Dzeko vs Aguero, Welbeck, Tadic and Moore.

    Thanks.

          Value is misleading.

I bet you couldn't build a similar team with substitutes like Bertrand over Clyne. It depends on whether you already own them or not.

Once you sell these players, which you probably will, most of the value gain is lost and you end up with a similar value to everyone else. Short term, it looks great, but I doubt it will be significant long term.

There's a lot of talk about how important Aguero is but I'm not convinced of his value. Yes he is prolific and is the best City option for a reason, but there are a fair few negatives:

    - he's yet to score more than 1 goal a game this season. Many seem to think he's a great captaincy option, but his highest score so far this season is 8. Admittedly he is consistent, but he is perhaps not as explosive as many imagine

    - he's injury prone. Admittedly when fit he normally scores well, but if you buy him, you know you'll have to use another FT taking him out at some stage, whether that's in 1 week or 3 months.

    - City and Argentina both have demanding schedules over the next month or so and Aguero is unlikely to start *every* game in the league - and if he does, it's very possible he'll be withdrawn early in a few.

I've been debating whether to go for Aguero and Pelle and I think I'm shifting towards the latter.

Fair points. I think a lot of it is to do with his proven track record in the past. We've seen numerous times that when he's fully fit he's head and shoulders above most other players in the league and could explode at any minute. He's also something of a differential at the moment. But of course, the biggest worry is his fitness; it's a calculated risk, whereas Pelle is much less of one. I think Aguero has a higher ceiling though.

Yeah, I think that's a nagging thought in the back of my mind - if he does explode, I'll be kicking myself. As you say, Aguero does have more potential for big points.

Oh dear, where do I even start. Point for point is probably best.

      1) Extremely small sample size! Its ridiculous to assume he will only be a consistent 1 goal a game striker. You need to take into account what he has done in previous seasons and he has proven he is a striker that can regularly get double figures in FPL

      2) You shouldn't let injuries prevent you from getting some of the best players in the premier league. RVP was injury prone too and in his first season at United he scored around 30 goals. You can plan for injuries and if he gets injured in 3 months then so what! I had a good 10-14 game spell out of him, I certainly don't expect all the players I transfer in to be season keepers.

      3) Last year Aguero had a similar schedule (played CL and internationals) and guess what, he was rested for only 1 game!

Aguero being consistent this year is a positive and all the more reason to captain him this year. Saying he's not explosive is frankly a bit ridiculous. He has proven over the last few seasons that he is. Early days yet in the PL and Aguero has just started to play full games for City and a good run of fixtures coming.

Think the stats are quite deceiving unless you read between the lines.

He's actually only played 348 minutes, equivalent to 3.8 games going by a full 90 minute appearance. 4 goals in that time is decent, particularly considering half the matches being Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Some good (and then excellent) fixtures coming up and his ability to make a goal out of nothing is what makes him a necessity to me.

For the second most expensive player in the game you can't be relying on 20 minutes. I think he'll probably starts but there's at least a chance he won't, which makes him very risky.

Not keen on sturridge tbh. Well over priced, and pool not as swashbuckling as last year. Plus he only seems to get 1 goal a game sort of thing so feel he's a worse (c) option then aguero. Both are as bad with injuries as one another as all it takes is a trip to the local shop and hamstring/ ankle is gone!

Welbeck is cheap playing for a top 4 club with limited other options up front with an easy run of fixtures. Expect a few big hauls in the coming weeks and a few price rises.

Pelle is on form playing for a side offering a lot of creativity and support for him. Also relatively cheap and nailed on. Southampton decent fixtures too.

Overall, I do expect Pelle to outscore Welbeck over the season (what with the return of Giroud and other factors) but I think with the kind run of fixtures Welbeck will outscore Pelle til Xmas. Maybe even worth putting the armband on him at times.

They are both cheap and will score lots of points. Other players are cheaper but will score less. Yet others will score more points but are a lot more expensive. They are both good picks.

So I'm just about to go to bed and my missus is snoring so come into the lounge for a w*nk and to think about Fantasy Football (not related). What are your thoughts on this team?

    De Gea, Gilks
    Terry, Pieters, Taylor, Hutton, Wisdom
    Mata, Chadli, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Marney
    Costa, Aguero, Pelle

This was for Fortune Always Hiding...but here it is anyway.

    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/6159/

Have a look at that. Ignore the title, it's a table for the past 3 GWs. Check out number 6 on the list.

All the GWs Lampard has been involved in. Lamps has only played a total of 77 minutes in those 3 GWs. So 77/180, compared to the rest on the table who've played the full amount. 1/3rd of the time to do the damage and he compares very very well with the rest. It's pretty amazing. Check em out. Cmmnd/Ctrl Find Lampard then sort by each column. In particular, Chances from open play, Shots in the box, and Big Chances.

Probably too much of a risk though.

Think I missed the boat by not wildcardin earlier despite my promising start. Some team values are 103-104, whilst mine has been rising steadily and is only 101.4.

How much of a burden is team value, and can it be redeemed? Honestly have no idea where some get the money from with so few transfers made.

Yeah think I will. Sorts the captaincy this week. I've already had him once this season. Wish I didn't swap him out for rooney on my wc.
Problem is I gotta drop a mid to afford. Thinking I'll drop Fab and keep ADM and Sanchez. Thoughts?

Definitely looks good...but I can see Ulloa exploding this GW, and blanks/single goals coming after that. Aguero on the other hand could tick over nicely, with more than a single goal a game in some games.

Fixtures are definitely good, but they're a lot better at home, and they're away fixtures don't look that great. Top option, but Aguero's probably the better one in the long run, and possibly the short run I suppose. Both have great fixtures in GW 7.

you still got Sanchez? Tough call to hold onto him, mate. Think he has to go since Fab offers greater value.

Disagree. Fab's price is fairly high now, and isn't particularly productive with Ramires' absense. He only managed to create 1 chance and had 0 shots on the weekend in an easy fixture against Villa at home.

He's got crap goal threat, and definitely has great assist potential. But I'd rather have someone like Sanchez who has bags of both, and who's fixtures are on the up.

Yeah, not as exciting as the early games (plus the Ramires factor), but he looks like getting points on consistent basis, especially as he's still on some set pieces.

Mad to drop Sanchez with the upcoming fixtures I know, but for 10.3 I'd want someone who's definitely nailed on and not rotation risk.

I feel I can't sell him though. Fixtures are about to become brilluiant and he is maybe the best fpl prospect in the league during those games. IF he starts. Fecking wenger doing my head in

Sucsess in predicting that Rooney will drop last night. Bingooo!!! With Ramsey I was some kind of confused but now the picture is getting clear.

This I hope it helps and will continue to do it. Next on topic? Rises? I will tackle only important players like Rooney and Ramsey.

Thanks and have a nice day.

TV is overrated, people hardly actually cash in on a player, they get forced to keep and the money isn't actually working for you. it just shows as a higher number on your team profile.

      Nice one mate.

I'd love to know the situation regarding Sturridge. It looks like he might drop soon, but all sites have him differently rated.

I think Fiso is closest for drops based on this week, though FPLstatistics has been closer with risers. TPFL has half the league dropping it seems, and Assaidi on 700% last I checked, which seems totally wrong.

Cheers bro. I really need him to drop heavily before GW9 so I can afford Ulloa>Sturridge then. I need their price changes to close a 0.4 gap, so a 0.1-0.3 drop from Sturridge would be epic. Failing that I'll have to look at Lukaku/Adebayor/Benteke which isn't as appealing.

I can understand that but you have to look at it from a professional point of view. Most of us here, if we lost a close family member, would return to work/studies soon enough after and be expected to be professional.

If he is grieving that's perfectly okay, it was a tragedy and I have tremendous sympathy for him and his family but then, realistically, he shouldn't be putting himself up to play for the team. He should step aside for a while if he needs to.

Oh I agree, a lot of these lads do pump a good deal of money into charity.

My point would be genuinely, for the sake of himself and the team at the moment, he should take a little bit of time off. May wind up doing himself and City a favour in the long run.

Aye and it's very possible that City didn't let him but that doesn't stop him from asking the manager not to be played for a little while, Pellegrini strikes me as a decent sort. The owners have no sympathy I believe, he should look to Pelle to give him some rest (which would be easily justifiable given his form).

I believe his newest contract was a little below £200,000 a week but could rise to £240,000 a week depending on certain targets for the club (so we can safely say he earned £240,000 a week all last season.)

Suarez 13/14 had the highest total points and by far the highest points:minute ratio of any FPL player ever.

Suarez & Ronaldo have been the best 2 FPL players. Would you captain Gerrard?

A few years ago during the First Triumvirate of Lamps/Gerrard/Ronaldo each one of them were fantastic (c) options

Gerrard was the bottom of that trio by a long way.

I think Lamps was almost as good as them FPL wise though. Consistently racked up 20 goals from midfield.

And I'd defo Captain Gerrard back in the days while he was a part of the trinity.

I even captained him last year once. 😆

Lamps was very good. His 3 best seasons equaled over 3200 minutes in each.

Definitely Ronaldo. He was getting a goal and assist most games and was a midfield. It was like Suarez listed as a mid. In his prime if you avoided him you had a poor rank. The only FPL player to be worth 14m.

Suarez still beat him this season with less minutes, no CS & 1 less point per goal.

Nah. Don't think MP will risk falling behind Chelsea even more.
