Our Suspension Tightrope only kicked back into action last week but we’ve already seen a couple of players topple off after Gameweek 7 came to an end. Both Calum Chambers and Jonjo Shelvey went into the weekend with four yellows accrued and the pair were culpable yet again, earning their fifth domestic cautions to automatically trigger a one-match ban.

In an ill-tempered affair at Stamford Bridge, Chambers was a little fortunate not to receive his marching orders after Martin Atkinson chose not to dish out a second yellow for a foul on Andre Schurrle. Indeed, although the whistler booked seven players in the 2-0 win, the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Gary Cahill and Danny Welbeck were also shown a little leniency, and received a caution when a dismissal could just as easily have been the outcome. Welbeck owners will particularly be relieved after his wild lunge on Cesc Fabregas was only deemed worthy of a yellow.

Chambers – who has now been booked six times in just eight appearances for the Gunners – misses the Gameweek 8 home encounter against Hull but will return in time for the following week’s trip to Sunderland.

Shelvey will skip the Swans’ trip to Stoke next time around before coming back into contention for the Gameweek 9 home clash against Leicester. Team-mate Angel Rangel is available now, though, after serving his own one-match suspension against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

The duo join Wayne Rooney on the sidelines, then, as the United skipper serves the second of a three-match suspension away to West Brom. Rooney also misses a home match with Chelsea before being available in time for the Gameweek 10 Manchester derby at the Etihad.

Back to the Tightrope and Chambers’ team-mate Jack Wilshere is now the only player currently sitting with four cautions to his name. Just below him, though, are band of 10 players which include a trio of big-hitting Fantasy prospects, in the form of Diego Costa, Yaya Toure and Graziano Pelle.

Play Begovic (SWAN) or Krul (LEIC)

    and who will score more..

    A) Fabregas and Silva with Ulloa on the bench

    B) Aguero and Chadli with Milner on the bench (rotate milner with chadli until Nasri is back in one month and then will find a different option.

Why rush on Azpi? Chelsea had one solid defensive game against Arsenal, but that's about it. Been poor before hand. Fixtures will clear up after GW12.

2 clean sheets in a row for a start. It wouldn't surprise me if Jose kept it clean against United and Pool too, tough fixtures on paper aren't necessarily tough for Chelsea defenders.

In saying that, I may opt for Mangala. He was my preferred pick initially.

I did Fab to Mane for GW6 and it felt good! If Mane didn't miss that sitter against Spurs it would have felt even better haha. I want an exciting team full of hare's not a team full of tortoises. In the end the tortoise will probably win but it would be such a dull victory if I went down that common road.

Tempted for the same move Innsie but not sure I have the guts to drop Cesc yet. Maybe Sterling. If I ditch sterling I may get Hendo. Fab I may ditch for anyone of Hendo, Chadli, Downing, Mane, Tadic. Who are you getting alongside Baines?

My team for next week will likely be:

        Forster
        Baines - Azpilicueta - Clyne
        ADM - Sterling - Siggy - Chadli
        Costa - Aguero - Pelle

        Cesc who? 😉

Nice. A -4 there to get Azpi aswell? Im tempted to get that aswell (but I have Welbeck). Looks good. I have Chambers too. Could have some serious defensive benching there 😆

The Azpi transfer could wait I guess, but it's just so tempting to get a team like this straight away 😆

Yeah I won't need Chambers with these guys, when Clyne has a tough run of fixtures Duff is more than capable of covering them.

Yeah I've Hutton who's fixtures start to turn good now. Very tempting alright. Especially if the likes of Aguero and co get rested. nice back up to have. The more i look at it the better it sounds. Certainly better than Moreno 😆

It's so hard not to tinker during these international breaks, a few days ago I wasn't even considering grtting rid of Fab, but the options it gives me at the back are soooo tempting. 🙂

Trying to fit in Ivan/Azpi as an offensive backline differential w/ Baines. I'd have to downgrade one of Haz/AdM/Sterling to Chadli to fund it though.

Might even fancy a risky Haz --> Alexis & just get Azpi instead. Bit too ludicrous at the moment though.

Fixtures and logic are someimes more important than stats. For example stats shows everton have one of the worst defence.

But they conceded 11 out of 16 goals to chelsea united arsenal liverpool which by logic is not a surprise as they are top teams with strong attacks

I just find it hard to believe that people are hesitant to bring an everton defender for their kind run of fixtures just because of what stats show

Everton defence is leaky. Always has been with such attacking preference. Good for a few cleanies at times, but you never know when. Last year they shut out Liverpool, the best attacking team in the league at the time., and also spanked Arsenal. Baines is ideal cos he offers cover for their leakiness with attacking points. Others not so much worth it

Its important to weigh up all the factors (watching games if you can, stats, form, fixtures). Using just one of that lot will increase your chances of making a wrong call.

Downing owners. Are you worried about using the spare cash ITB that you got from to upgrade elsewhere? I'm thinking of doing Chester to Baines but it would leave me with 0.1 ITB and I'm worried that I won't be able to upgrade him to someone decent later on. Downing is my 4th mid.

    1. emperikal
      • 15 Years

I've opted for him as my 5th mid which means I'm likely to miss out on some of his hauls though he's a nice safety blanket with his consistency as my first sub in case of injuries/rests

Money does you no good in the bank though! If you plan on keeping him then you should invest in someone like Baines or upgrade your 5th midfielder to someone who rotates well with Downing perhaps?

@Innsie ... nice rank mate. Just checked out your points and realised I was one captaincy choice away from being around the mark with you. Had it on Siggy all last week and switched to Sterling 10 minutes before cut-off ... what a blunder! Still, it means it's still easy to jump up the ranks with a half-decent week!

Nope! Not for now anyways. Think I have a pretty good balance in the squad with some great fixtures coming up so I hope my mid-priced strikers can at least somewhat match Aguero but it definitely wasn't an easy decision. I suppose if Pelle or Welbeck don't produce over the coming weeks I'll have to form some sort of emergency Aguero plan 😆

    Hi Guys!

I am on a WC, which of the 2 following teams do you like better:

    1) Heaton / Mannone
Baines Bertrand Wisdom / Duff Moore
Hazard Sterling ADM Siggy / Tiote
    Costa Aguero Naismith

    0.0 ITB

    2) FORSTER / Mannone
Baines Bertrand Wisdom / Duff Moore
CHADLI Sterling ADM Siggy / Tiote
    Costa Aguero PELLE

    0.3 ITB

Basically Heaton - Hazard - Naismith OR Forster - Chadli - Pelle

If you have any other suggestion, you are more than welcome. 🙂

Think he's a pretty good option. West Ham are looking more and more likely to keep some cleanies. Their fixtures aren't terrible either and I'd prefer him over my current Krul or Foster thats for sure

Good 'ol American. I fancy his CS potential just for his run of fixtures 'til Jan. Add to that Vlaar coming up & that defense will be as tight as a rock for a while.

Go there cross the line & no tag-backs.

Lovren to Baines and float the other, then Caulker to a 4.0 and use the funds to upgrade elsewhere. Caulker has to go.

    Is Aguero worth it?

I reckon at this stage he's like scoring 1 goal per match which means around 6 PPG. It's a very decent return, even at 12m price.

But with few mid-priced options who have good fixtures and decent form such as Welbeck, can downgrading him be a good move as it will bring balance to the whole team.

Aguero -> Webeck means 5m ITB, it can upgrade your 4.5m to Baines and even a mid price midf such as Siggy to Walcott later on (or Sterling / Fabregas if you haven't got them).

Welbeck may not get 6 PPG like Aguero (although he could with those fixtures). But Baines points over Naylor surely will make up for it? Not too mention your 'Walcott' points.

Would love to have him but prefer a more balanced squad and just can't fit him in at the moment. He's truly a luxury but thankfully he's only been providing the single goals but if he starts to explode I might have to cave and get him in. For now I'll stay behind the couch where I've been watching every City game 😉

There's also the captaincy option to consider. The whole purpose of saving money in your team is to use the most funds to get the highest point scorers in attack, which would undoubtedly be Aguero. Dont forget that Baines every week isn't competing with Naylor every week in your team, hes competing with a rotation (i hope). Bertrand and Clynr wont be far off Baines either

      1. Christina.
        • 16 Years

There are lots of (c) options each week as most of us have the template.

My V/c was Siggurdson(10) last GW. Look at Hazard & ADM last week. Costa ticking over. Even Welbz and Pelle with their fixture coming up are decent.

And besides most that own Baines also own Clyne/Bertrand.

Yes two major points which I missed. Captaincy points and rotation.

Everyone have Clyne / Bertrand at this point so I assume they're gonna be there regardless of Baines or no Baines. Most rotation here probably Naylor/Moore/Duff which tbh is very good but Baines is Baines. With those fixtures I can see him nick a few assist and pens.

High risk high return I reckon. And obviously isn't as straightforward as my statement above

Innsie, I saw your post about downgrading your midfield to upgrade your defense. I'm have thought about this as well. Would you consider to do Sterling to Chadli, and keep Fabregas ? I have a feeling that Fabregas will do better, or do you prefer Liverpool's fixtures and Sturridge's return..? Anybody else have opinions about this?

It would enable to get Baines and Azpi as Innsie wrote, and Aguero in my case. Not a bad deal, right?

And go behind the couch during the City's game against Spurs...hoping that Aguero won't be explosive.

A question on the Jan wildcard. The rules say The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 20 starts (1 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 23 ends (1 Feb 11:30); as the January wildcard isn't available until after the Gameweek 20 deadline, the earliest these transfers will be active is Gameweek 21.

As Gameweek 23 deadline is 31 Jan 11.30, does it mean that I can use the Jan WC for GW24? I.e. activate it after Gameweek 23 deadline and before 1 Feb 11.30?

You dodged a bullet there. Yaya has looked disinterested all season and isn't on penalties like the majority of last season. Don't let one goal fool you.

Soory to repost, didn't get much replies:

I am on a WC, which of the 2 following teams do you like better:

    1) Heaton / Mannone
Baines Bertrand Wisdom / Duff Moore
Hazard Sterling ADM Siggy / Tiote
    Costa Aguero Naismith

    0.0 ITB

    2) FORSTER / Mannone
Baines Bertrand Wisdom / Duff Moore
CHADLI Sterling ADM Siggy / Tiote
    Costa Aguero PELLE

    0.3 ITB

Basically Heaton - Hazard - Naismith OR Forster - Chadli - Pelle

If you have any other suggestion, you are more than welcome. 🙂

      B. Try to get atleast one more decent defender. Those three defenders are good enough to give -ve pts anyday
