Don’t get us wrong – we’re not labelling this latest droning session as “essential” listening. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that the concept of essential players has dominated the airwaves at Scout towers over the past week.

In this latest episode, Granville and I take on this meaty subject, whilst chewing over the importance of ownership and spit out the semblance of an opinion on both. Around that main course, we take on the usual bevvy of regulars with the usual haphazard panache.

Essential? Not quite, not even on a rainy Thursday night.

Grab this crucial slice of audio via this link or explore this necessary noise via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Slowly want to free up funds to fit Aguero in the team.

I'm with Granville, I find the ownership discussion utterly pointless. Construct the team that you will think will get the most points - why does ownership matter? You can argue not having Costa could see you falling behind, which it could, but by the same token, if Costa's form takes a turn for the worst, virtually every serious player in the game is immediately on the back foot. The only thing that makes a player essential is when they're consistently scoring lots of points, a la RVP in previous seasons.

Well yeah. We all have him because he's scoring well and his stats back up that production. I just used him as the example since he has the highest ownership.

Yeah Jonty is making a mistake I think when he uses fear to drive his transfer decisions. Ownership should never trump fixtures.

Then they should not have asked for an opinion. Rather they should have stated their own opinion and why they have come to that conclusion. Then a discussion would ensue to determine whether they have drawn valid conclusions.

Am I mad for thinking about this:

    OUT: Sterling, Ulloa and Duff
    IN: Tiote, Welbeck and Baines

Would be a 4pt hit with £1.6m left ITB. Could take out Fab instead of Sterling also.

    Opinions...

For those considering how to step away from the Midfield template - in particular getting Santi in, and removing either Fabs or Stirling: -

Stirlings has already amassed 40 points, last year his stats look quite impressive too:-

    2013/14
    Mins 2219
    Goals 9
    Assists 7
    Bonus Points 7
    Total Points 132

i.e. if he continues in the same vain and gets 3000 mins then 170 points should be in the bank for this year.

However, the Suarez factor is now missing from Liverpool, and potentially other options are available "in the hole" which could move Sterling to the RHS reducing his FF output, and poor Raheem's all tired...and 9.0M

Fabs so far has 41 points, his previous history in the premiership:-

    2010/11 1880 3 13 28 Total Points = 128
    2009/10 2188 15 15 41 Total Points = 214
    2008/09 1900 3 10 20 Total Points = 108
    2007/08 2857 7 20 43 Total Points = 205
    2006/07 3185 2 14 54 Total Points = 182

Very consistant and I expect him to over 180 with ease if he stays fit - although Hazard is also a viable option - So stays in my team. Siggy is great value and ADM is in my team as I need Man U cover feeding their awesome strikeforce.

So are there other options besides the Fab, Stirling, Siggy, ADM template - Cazorla?
Just to add to the argument - this is Santi stats the year before Ozil joined Arsenal - "in the hole"!

    2012/13
    Mins 3301
    Goals 12
    Assists 13
    Bonus Points 19
    Total Points 205

So up to you guys really - but I think Stirling won't be in my team much longer if Santi is given his best position "in the hole"!

I think Sterling is still the best expensive midfielder on the market. If anything I would argue that without Suarez Sterling will be able to step up to the plate and be the main man for Liverpool. Having Sturridge back will also help as they work together really well. To me I think Fabregas will never have enough goal threat to make him better value than Sterling.

Cazorla is a nice option I think as well. Although at this stage its very speculative. For all we know Ramsey might get his chance in the #10 position and Caz won't get his chance in his preferred position.

Finally took the plunge and got Aguero in. Here's how the team looks now:

    Forster

Aguero is my (c) even if between sticks are Lloris, Vorm and Friedel together

In three starts, Coleman got a goal, an assist, and a CS. That Chelsea game with the concession of 6 and the own goal really skewed his points total.

Some think it doesn't matter...but I disagree...He's actually got two goals from 5 appearances all told, damned good going that for a defender.

Sterling to Hendo would enable the Baines Coleman double up, but then I would have no clear path to Theo. Going to be a tough call.

No..not really...Chadli has had a combined chances created/pots at goal of 20 whilst Eriksen has 29...Eriksen has 137 bonus points score to Chadli's 127...Set pieces, blah, blah, blah....I accept Chadli is cheaper but just wondered why he preferred Chadli...

You yourself suggest that touches in the box is the most important stat. Then look at shots inside the box. There is only one winner here.

Aye he's doing well..and it is from open play. Eriksen is right in there with the top set piece players though..and the cheapest of that top bunch. The best combo double up right now imo is Eriksen and Chadli for their fixtures.

Probably on a game by game basis. However it would irk me every week to see Chadlii who is significantly cheaper matching Eriksen's output.
