As always, our first look at the fixture ticker over the next four to six Gameweeks starts with those teams who have kind upcoming schedules. We see that Everton are handed an opportunity to make up lost ground, Southampton have every chance of keeping their crown as the best value team across the Fantasy games, whilst Man City and Tottenham both heave into view with an eye-catching run of opponents.

Everton

“frisking

Marking the start of their excellent schedule with an emphatic victory over Aston Villa last week, the Toffees present a strong case for consideration. Their forthcoming fixtures look highly promising, with home fixtures against Swansea, West Ham and Hull, plus trips to Burnley and Sunderland, blighted only by a visit to Spurs.

Registering their second clean sheet of the season, Everton have struggled to repeat last term’s resilience but these fixtures could get them back on track. Phil Jagielka notched his second strike of the season but the wise money would seem to be on full-backs Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines, with the latter’s spot-kicks seeming to give him the edge.

In midfield, the return of Ross Barkley could see him kick on from his breakthrough season and become a genuine contender, though it’s concerning that not one attacking midfielder has played more than 120 minutes over the last two matches, suggesting that Roberto Martinez intends to continue with his rotation policy. Up front, Romelu Lukaku scored his third goal of the season and is starting to challenge Steven Naismith for top goalscorer, though the Scotsman’s budget price tag makes it a tough choice.

Tottenham

“frisking

It’s widely accepted that the weekend’s scoreline flattered Man City somewhat, and though they were undone by the genius of Sergio Aguero, there was much to admire about the performance of Mauricio Pochettino’s side as he wrangles them around to his way of thinking. Tottenham now have the chance to show their progress as they prepare to face a more obliging set of opponents. The next four fixtures include home matches against Newcastle and Stoke, plus trips to Aston Villa and Hull.

Such fixtures ought to be prosperous for the Spurs defence and, at 5.6, Hugo Lloris sits atop the Fantasy Premier League keeper standings right now. If you’re looking to invest in defence, though, Younes Kaboul or Danny Rose both set you back 5.0. In midfield, Erik Lamela has failed to bear the fruit that his blossoming pre-season promised us, but Christian Eriksen has been steadily building in stature with back-to-back goals against tough opponents. The Dane was a Fantasy force to be reckoned with under Tim Sherwood and the signs are that he could be ready to do so again. Nacer Chadli’s star has waned slightly since his early-season successes but he still offers more close-range threat than the former Ajax man, and at 6.4 to Eriksen’s 7.8, teh Belgian remains excellent value. After his international exertions, Emmanuel Adebayor was dropped for Roberto Soldado against City, though both players look woefully out of form right now and it may be best to invest elsewhere.

Southampton

“frisking

Delivering the talking point of the week with their merciless thrashing of Sunderland, Ronald Koeman’s team are Fantasy royalty at the moment, serving up elite points for mid-priced investment. The Saints still have four Gameweeks of good-looking fixtures to mine for points before the skies darken and their fixture ticker turns red. Home clashes against Stoke and Leicester combine with trips to Hull and Aston Villa to make a strong case for their assets.

Fraser Forster is second overall for goalkeepers, though for a similar price you can have the added goals, assists and bonus points of either of Nathaniel Clyne or Ryan Bertrand. In midfield, Dusan Tadic finally served up the goal he’d been threatening for some time and added four assists for good measure to record a mammoth 23-point haul for the Gameweek and it’s hard to look past him, though Sadio Mane, at 6.9, could be an alternative after also opening his account for the club last weekend. In attack, Graziano Pelle has picked up where he left off in the Eredivisie and has now equalled Diego Costa’s points tally – available at a mere 8.1, he looks irresistible right now.

Man City

“frisking

The title holders are gradually moving up through the gears, and while last weekend’s scoreline against Spurs may not have been entirely reflective of the balance of play, it’s hard to see many of their upcoming opponents offering much resistance. City’s next six Gameweeks may include just a couple of home fixtures, but bearing in mind they host United’s leaky defence and pay visit to two of the current bottom four, Fantasy managers won’t be deterred.

The defence has yet to fully gel and for Fantasy purposes two clean sheets seems scant reward for top price-bracket players. With rotation blighting three of the four slots, only Vincent Kompany looks recommendable for those managers who see an upturn in defensive resolve. The City midfield is similarly troubling; both David Silva and Yaya Toure are toiling for Fantasy returns while rotation casts doubt over the value of other players – though James Milner, at 5.3, could be worth a budget punt. Up top, though, Sergio Aguero’s masterclass of a performance against Spurs has underlined his potential and, with doubts over Costa’s fitness, arguably labels him “essential” in some managers’ eyes.

Also Consider

Aston Villa
Rolled over by Everton, Paul Lambert will be hoping that a five-Gameweek stretch of heavyweight opponents hasn’t knocked all the belief and momentum out of his side. Certainly, trips to QPR, West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace would seem tailor-made for Villa’s counter-attacking style and Fantasy points could be flowing again. Brad Guzan could offer good value if they can regain their defensive form, while Alan Hutton is likely to do better than the one point per game he has averaged in the last four Gameweeks. Goalless since Gameweek 4, it’s hard to recommend any of Villa’s attacking assets, but as Christian Benteke returns to fitness following his long injury, his performances will be key to resurrecting the Villains’ fortunes.

Liverpool
Mired in a woeful rut of dire form, Brendan Rodgers does at least still have the fixtures on side to turn things around. Home matches against Hull and Stoke plus trips to Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Leicester could scarcely be kinder but faith in the defence is at an all-time low after conceding two goals to lowly QPR. With Mario Balotelli struggling and Daniel Sturridge injured yet again, Fantasy investment seems limited to the midfield. Raheem Sterling kept his legion of owners satisfied with an assist on Sunday but Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson aren’t as far behind as their ownership numbers would suggest and offer viable alternatives to the England starlet.

Arsenal
Held to a draw by Hull City, Arsene Wenger’s injury-riddled squad has still only been beaten by Chelsea so far. The Gunners have some decent-looking fixtures to come, with trips to Sunderland, Swansea and West Brom plus a home clash against Burnley to boost their prospects at both ends of the pitch. Arsenal’s defence has yet to bear fruit this season, with just a single clean sheet to show, but Calum Chambers (4.6) is back from suspension and could offer good value for would-be investors. In midfield, Alexis Sanchez is becoming hard to ignore – handed the full 90 minutes at the weekend, his form continued with a goal, assist and maximum bonus, though with Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott closing in on first-team returns, we won’t be short of options for long. Danny Welbeck’s second Premier League goal in an Arsenal shirt will help his confidence and his 7.3 price tag makes him an excellent-value prospect.

Mou just revealed his pen takers in order. Hazard, Oscar, Fabregas, Diego Costa.

Interviewer annoying. He asked about Chelsea number 1 striker and then suggested it to Mourinho instead of asking about Costa.

Drogba once robbed me of a last day mini league victory over Mark by taking the ball off Lampard when he was the penalty taker.

Are we so sure he will play vs QPR either? If he is out of United Maribor QPR that's a break which could see him fit till season end. I'd put a team together that could beat QPR like.

Even if he plays against United, there's no guarantee he'd play QPR though.

If I were Mourinho (or playing FM) I'd be happy to rest him for that game too.

Yeah, its a point i raised below. That said though, against QPR, Drogba would just need to be a focal point.

Shirley, Cesc, Hazard and Oscar have easily enough firepower between them to put that QPR side away at home.

That was one of my main concerns, RE QPR.

I think its a game easy enough for them to win without DC. Only issue now is that Remy is going to be out of that one by the look of it.

Having sold Costa last gw this news just keeps getting better.

      Schurrle up top?

  4. Costa to aguero for a hit?
    rickardinho
    • 11 Years
    11 years, 1 month ago

Here is my take on Costa>Aguero(-4)

    PRICE CHANGES:
    - Aguero has already risen 0.1 this GW, and according to fplstatistics he will rise tonight again, and could feasibly rise another 0.1 later this week as the Costa>Aguero momentum picks up.
    - Costa has already dropped 0.1 this GW, though if you bought him at 10.5 it meant nothing trade-value-wise, which is still 10.8. He's being sold in droves however, so could fall another 0.1 this week to 11.0, meaning you do lose 0.1 of trade-value.
    - If things go as expected, those who do Costa>Aguero this week could earn the 0.1 on Aguero, which would combine with the 0.1-0.2 drops for Costa to partially off-set any loss we would par make on trading Costa away.

    FIXTURES:
    - Costa: mun (shrewsbury) QPR (maribor) liv (int. break... Belarus 15/11, Germany 18/11) WBA
    - Aguero: whm (NEW) MUN (CSKA) qpr (int. break... Portugal 18th Nov) SWA

    - The way I see it, if Costa misses the United game, he won't play against Shrewsbury (100%) or QPR (most likely). However, Mourinho might be willing to risk playing Costa against United given that he can then effectively give him 2 weeks off with easy fixtures. Given that Chelsea are in control of the CL group I doubt he'll be needed against Maribor either. Liverpool away would be the big game for him to play in, though you'd wonder if Mourinho would be tempted to rest him to avoid having him go on international duty. Spain play at home against Belarus 15/11, and a friendly against Germany on 18/11, so there's good reason for Mourinho to keep him away from those games.
    - Aguero will have wedn-fri to recover from the CSKA game, and West Ham away is a sufficiently tough game that he should be nailed-on to play that, especially as he can be rested against Newcastle in the midweek cup game. He's nailed on for United, as well as for the must-win CSKA game, and I doubt he'd be rested at QPR, given that its right before the Int. Break - a break during which Argentina only play one game, which just so happens to be in Manchester against Portugal a full 10 days later on the 18th of November. Then he has Swansea at home on the 22nd, so he won't have to travel much during the international break.

    FORM:
    - Aguero is in the form of his life, with 6 goals and 1 assist in his last 3 games, and has played 90 minutes in 3/4 games (71 in the other), as well as 90 in the CL game.
    - Costa has 2 goals and 0 assists in his last 3 games (4 games if you count the one he missed).

    ROTATION RISK:
    - Remy has just been injured in the CL game, and I think Schurrle was out too, though Drogba played. With Hazard and Fabregas in top form it makes it easier for Mourinho to drop Costa and rely on others to get the goals, particularly as he tends to set up defensively in big away games anyways. He may even decide to focus on scoring on set-pieces as United are very short in comparison to Chelsea.
    - Dzeko is fit, though was quite unimpressive against CSKA. Jovetic made a 5 minute cameo and also played for Montenegro during the recent break. However, he didn't start Montenegro's game, and coupled with the fact that he only got 5 mins against CSKA I doubt he would be starting yet, and would suspect that he will get the nod against Newcastle in the cup instead.

    FPL RISK OF OWNERSHIP:
    - Costa has 63.8%, and Aguero 18.2%. It is risky to sell Costa, but that risk should be minimized by the fact that so many people are selling Costa this week. You can reap big rewards from owning Aguero as well, compared to whoever Costa owners have as first sub.

    SUMMARY:
    - If you're happy to take a 0.2 loss for 2 or more fixtures worth of Aguero(c) this trade makes a lot of sense. Any loss you make on the Costa trade-value should be offset by Aguero's probably price rises, as well as Costa's price fall. If you want to get Aguero in though you'd better do it quickly as he'll already be 12.5 after tonight.
    - Aguero looks to be much more nailed-on for his fixtures compares to Costa's, and is in the better form (as well as arguably being the better player). Pellegrini will also be under enormous pressure to get results in the coming weeks after his failure to win in Moscow, meaning he'll be more inclined to play Aguero as much as possible.
    - This move definitely makes a lot of sense at a -4 hit, and if you have a spare FT then its a no-brainer. The question on everyone's lips is if they should wait until Friday or Saturday to see if Costa appears in training pictures, but even if he does I think owning Aguero will be more profitable points-wise in the coming weeks for the reasons I discussed. I will be making the trade this evening, just as soon as I finish writing this post! 🙂

I'm sorry but Costa is not being sold in droves. Less than 90,000 since Saturday.
      FPL's thresholds make no sense.
Compare the transfers of Rooney to Costa. Rooney has dropped just .3 from a lower ownership base, but has had over 1 million transfers out.

Rooney was red-flagged due to the red card though.

By "droves" I wasn't necessarily referring to the number of people selling, just the fact that he's been top of the -NTI chart since earlier today, including right now (on Fiso), whereas Aguero is top of the +NTI.

I guess so. Costa already fell 0.1 though, which suggests his threshold is lower, or the overall volatility has been adjusted since Rooney fell. In any case, I think its very likely that Costa will fall again this week.

If I had both I would keep Costa as late as possible, unless you wanted to get Pelle before he rises. I don't want to have Aguero rise anymore though and think he's the better option right now anyways even if both play all their fixtures, so its a sensible move.

Sorry, might have been a bit vague there.

I meant that regardless of whether or not Costa plays against United he should be rested against QPR. Its a sufficiently easy game that Mourinho should be able to give him some rest, as Drogba, Hazard, Fabregas, etc, should be able to beat them easily with or without Costa.

Great post. I already own Aguero but fair play to you for the effort. I am sure there are loads in your situation right now and big respect for doing the research and typing it all out!
You could have just as easily come to those conclusions in your head and gone ahead with the transfer but instead you decided to help other (many) FFSers out.

Price changes apart, it may be worth doing anyway. If Costa doesn't play this weekend and Aguero scores just one goal, that wipes out the -4 points. Both players are in outstanding form, but even discounting Spurs' defensive collapse last Saturday, and City's slightly less favorable fixtures over the next 12 gameweeks, I expect Aguero to score more often and get more bonus points than Costa. Others may disagree. Best of all would be to have both. 🙂

Excellent post but I'm not convinced that Costa won't play against QPR and that Aguero will start against West Ham. I'm paranoid that I'll make the move and then see Aguero benched, only for Costa to make one of his surprise appearances for the MUN match.

Have the exact funds for ADM to Eriksen and Wilson to Baines with my two FT. I am joint top for the month in my ML which means £28 if I win. Shall I pull the trigger? Bought ADM at 9.7 so if he falls to 10 I'll lose .3 getting him back which should be offset by .1 each on Baines/Eriksen(if he performs).

Not big on the idea of dropping ADM, but...

Eriksen + Baines are bound to outscore ADM + Wilson over the next few weeks.

Plus even if you end up not being able to afford ADM back you do have the returning Walcott as an alternative option.

If Costa maintains the form he was in before he got injured and Aguero keeps his current form up then people are going to regret not having both.

Costa > Aguero is a very shortsighted move if Costa returns this week.

Sticking with Costa. See what happens later in the week but I have a hunch he'll start against United.

I love these articles. One question though.Do man city really have better fixtyres than arsenal. I know these articles don't take into account the quality team in consideration so man city being better arsemal is no reason

City: West ham and qpr. 2 home games in the next 6

Arsenal: burnley and west brom.3 at home. All others are the same

It puts more emphasis on the next 3 rather than the whole 6.

I import ratings into the ticker based on all team's last 4 home and last 4 away fixtures.

Based on the next 5 fixtures (different to the last 6 that this article has admitedly), the teams with the best fixtures are:

          1. Arsenal
          2. Tottenham
          3. Villa
          4. Newcastle
          5. Swansea

This doesn't take into account the quality of the teams above though...just their opponents
