Thoughts on the two games I saw today. Game 1: Burnley vs. Everton.
Prior to the game I was expecting a comfortable Everton victory, as I assume most of us were, which is how it turned out, but the game could have been a hell of a lot different. Burnley started quite slowly, and never really got out of the blocks until Everton took the lead; a beautifully weighted cross by Baines being received by a bullet header by Eto'o, who was great all afternoon.
Once that goal went in, Everton seemed to revert and became rushed in their play, largely due to the greater pressing of the Burnley midfielders and forwards. For a 20 minute spell in the first half, Burnley were very on top, but it was an error by Romelu Lukaku that gifted them an equaliser. Danny Ings still had a lot to do, but rounded the keeper and finished it well. Not sure about the cupped ears and "What?", F**king what!?" celebration though...
The sound of the Everton backline's bollocking was still ringing in Lukaku's ears when he finished off a good team move, 6 or 7 passes resulting in a blocked shot which somewhat fortuitously ended at the Belgian's feet as he scuffed the resulting second shot in to the corner of the net. Advantage Everton at the break.
Second half seemed to proceed a lot quicker, Burnley huffed and puffed but ultimately couldn't find a way through and rarely threatened to impose much of a threat to the Toffee's goal. At the other end, Lukaku, Naismith and Eto'o were a constant menace, with the latter finishing wonderfully late on to end the game once and for all. He arguably should have had a hat-trick when he hit the post with the goal gaping, albeit from a narrow angle, but it was a great day's work for the Cameroonian, as well as the Everton team as a whole.
Conclusions from an FPL perspective:
* Everton defence still ropey, Baines and Coleman's outputs more likely to come from offensive points rather then clean sheets
* To that end, both looked good going forward, with a bit more luck and incision they could have threatened with a couple of shots of their own, but it didn't quite arrive at their feet
* With good fixtures moving forward, Trippier could be the source of some attacking points over the next 6 weeks. Owners should hold, he whipped in some dangerous crosses, but unfortunately he has Danny Ings and Lukas Jutiewicz (spelling probably horribly wrong, but you know who I mean) in the box rather than van Persie and Rooney😮
A couple of questions on Stoke mate

b) How are you looking defensively? Need a Stoke, Newcastle or WBA defender for a rotation. You guys have the best fixtures but you've not kept many CSa) No, not at all. He put in a good performance at Swansea in midfield which led to his starting berth against Southampton. Didn't see the game yesterday so unsure how he did but I heard the team played poorly and barely threatened.
b) So-so, there's a clean sheet in there somewhere, but hardly the defensive unit we were under Tony Pulis. I'd go for Marc Wilson if you want one of our defenders. Don't think our defence warrants further investment than that though.
We also have horrible fixtures in December.I can cover your worst fixtures well, it's just your defence that bugs me

He's playing deeper and was out of form before his injury. Walcott and Sanchez could prove better options. I'd wait for a decent 90 minute performance first. Champions league will lead to rotation problems too

To be solid at the back you need a back 4 that understands each other, you can;t get that when your CBS can barely manage 3 straight starts between them it causes problems
