Stick or twist? The dilemma of whether to hold key players dominated much of the discussion within the Fantasy Football Scout community this week, as stubborn and risk-taking Fantasy mangers prepared to do battle in Gameweek 10.

Whether you’re looking to ditch or keep your main assets, there was a feast of information to gorge on throughout the week, with our hot topics, articles and members tables helping to finalise those last-minute transfer plans. We look back on all that activity and, as ever, find time to catch up on the latest ups and downs in our community competitions.

The Community Articles

The Puntmaster has been assessing potential replacements for Gylfi Sigurdsson after taking a look at the Swansea man’s declining attacking threat and poor upcoming fixtures. Our regular scribe was back later in the week with his regular trio of punts, including another potential midfield replacement for the Icelandic international, for those who fancy taking a chance on a differential.

The Sarjeant also turned up with his popular regular, offering up further analysis of current form throughout the Premier League. Meanwhile, Sticky Mockwell provided his report on the effectiveness of goalkeeper rotation over the opening nine Gameweeks. It provided a timely reminder on the merits of a pair of active, alternating stoppers.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

There are a multitude of factors to ponder ahead of Gameweek 10: the choice of options in midfield being a major consideration. Right now, there are a handful of premium midfielders vying for our attention, whilst a slump in output amongst some popular Fantasy picks, allied with the ongoing uncertainty over Diego Costa’s minutes, suggests that the forthcoming set of fixtures could shake-up mini leagues.

On one side of the battle lines there are the “Twisters” who are ditching the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Costa and Raheem Sterling without a second thought. In the other corner there are the “Stickers”, resolutely clinging on to their fading stars in hope that class is permanent and a revival is on the way. In our discussion on which camp will prevail this weekend, Jafalad was among those who believe Costa ditchers will be left disappointed.

Later in the week we pondered whether we should welcome this apparent break up of the template team . Baines on Toast was among those who joined the discussion, stating that, with so many good expensive midfield options and just five slots, it’s impossible to “catch ‘em all”.

Such is the tension surrounding this week’s transfer decisions, there was even talk that Sergio Aguero may falter due to Manchester City’s poor form and midweek injury concerns around David Silva and Yaya Toure. Demi sparked this discussion to gather the community’s derby day predictions. Meanwhile, Beavis proclaimed that, even without Silva, Aguero has the form to shine. His excellent number crunching certainly puts forward a compelling case for captaining the Argentine hit man, with or without Silva’s craft providing the ammunition.

Chelsea have arguably one of the best fixtures of the week as they entertain QPR at Stamford Bridge. However, with Jose Mourinho continuing to be vague over Costa’s minutes earlier in the week, Rickardinho was eyeing up other Chelsea options and urged the community to consider Oscar’s excellent recent form and his high points tallies against “lesser” sides.

Over on the other side of London, Agbonlahorse has been looking into Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck’s potential. He’s far from impressed and wonders whether cheap strikers at big clubs, such as Welbeck and Everton’s Steven Naismith, are duping us into thinking they will perform beyond their price tag.

In contrast, Everton’s defence may be expensive but is worth every penny, according to MOTR in his run down of the pros and cons of doubling up on the Toffees backline.

Wakey’s Falling Stars team regularly reveals others that are making a mockery of their price tag. Each week he builds an XI comprised of those that have suffered price falls below their initial valuation. Gameweek 9 was another success story for Wakey’s ensemble, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Swansea’s Wilfried Bony performing well. Valuation was also being discussed by Milanista, who issued another call to FPL to disclose the secret calculations behind their price changes.

Price is something the community’s weekly Scout Pick champions need to keep a close eye on as they take on the Scouts with just a 83.5m budget. Saniul brought some much needed credibility back to the title of Scout Pick Community Champion last week by beating Paul’s total. This week’s champion, Magerost, will be hoping to do even better with his election winning set of picks. Just a reminder that our search for a community champion now takes place in its own community article, published the Monday before each Gameweek at 10am.

Finally, Nighthiker took a look back at some of the pre-season bandwagon flops the community optimistically drafted in for Gameweek 1. Meanwhile, Evs embarked on a more jolly stroll down memory lane in his discussion about the season’s best players and moments so far.

The Members Tables

Liverpool’s poor form in front of goal was a key issue covered in this week’s members tables. In my assist imminent table Liverpool midfielders dominate, showing just how badly they need Daniel Sturridge back to convert the many chances they are still creating.

The Fantasy Freak specifically took a look at Raheem Sterling to see just how he compares to one of this week’s most popular transfers Alexis Sanchez. Liverpool’s Mario Balotelli rides high in Erlando’s table looking at trigger happy players who are notching up a prolific number of goal attempts. His poor goal scoring form is clearly not for the want of trying.

The Community Tournaments

The Tinkerman increased his lead in the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league over second placed Mark.

Rasping Drive continues to top The Puffinboy Memorial Cup, for our veteran posters as well as the FFS Old Farts Club and the FFS Deadzone leagues.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Mr Rabbit hit the top score in Gameweek 9 with 74. There are now 997 teams left after 57 were eliminated after the safety score was set at 30.

The FFS UEFA Hockey World Cup reaches the semi-final stage in Gameweek 10. Here’s the latest from ENR looking back at the group stages and ahead to the weekend’s fixtures.

The link to your team doesn't work, maybe if I could see I can possibly recommend something but like I said staying put is probably your best bet. I own Sanchez, and although the fixture suggests he could have a big game, I can't see him pulling in the points 3 weeks in a row. The percentages of that happening are quite low. This is one of my reasons why I'm Di Maria (c) contrast to popular opinion. The sheep are hardly ever right anyway... =)

Chelsea have failed to score in three of the last four Premier League games against west London rivals QPR.

QPR's last visit to Stamford Bridge saw QPR win 1-0 thanks to former Blues player Shaun Wright-Phillips (January 2013).

Harry Redknapp has lost just one of his last six Premier League clashes with Chelsea (W2 D3).

Fantasy footballer Innsie has zero Chelsea players this week, so Chelsea are likely to win by more than 5 goals.

Dzeko was absolutely horrific against West Ham. He hardly did anything right. I agree about Navas though, he links up well with Kun.

He better not. I just got rid of him this week.

Don't talk yourself out of it Muppet. Stay with ADM. Didn't know you supported ManU. I honestly think they have a legitimate chance to steal one at the Etihad. ManU will definitely have more possession now that Silva is out. Yaya is on the decline, Nasri is still getting up to speed from injury. I just don't see any creativity in the midfield to feed Aguero, he's going to have to drop into his own half to get the ball. And if I know anything about Pellegrini, he is going to play not to lose. 3 losses in a row would be too much to bare.

By the way I'm just a neutral, I cheer for Alexis because I was born in Chile.

Which option is best for next week? Ideally don't want to get rid of Costa and Pelle but it's the only choice for me if I want Baines. Or is Baines not as essential as Costa and Pelle?

            a) Baines + Sakho + 2.5 (Costa/Taylor OUT)

            b) Baines + Sakho + 0.0 (Pelle/Taylor OUT)

            c) Coleman + Boyd + 0.1 (Siggy/Taylor OUT)

            d) Kaboul + Diame + 0.9 (Siggy/Taylor OUT)

I'm too busy managing my shed load of NFL leagues to be here a lot.

I'm 5 & 3 in the big money one and will be stunned if it's not 6 & 3 come Tuesday.

Will always pop in from time to time no worries,,,,

One interesting stat for each game this week 🙂

            - Chelsea have kept 10 clean sheets in their last 12 PL home games
            - Ross Barkley scored the winning goal in each of last season's two league games between Everton and Swansea.
            - Arsenal have only kept 2 clean sheets in their last 10 PL home games
            - Hull have scored exactly 2 goals in each of their last 3 PL home games
            - Newcastle have received 5 red cards in their last 4 PL games against Liverpool
            - WBA have scored just 4 goals in their last 9 away games
            - Just 6 goals have been scored at the Brittania this season, fewer than any other PL ground
            - Manchester City have won the last 3 Manchester derbies in the PL. They haven't won 4 in a row in the league since December 1970
            - Aston Villa haven't scored in 5 consecutive PL games. They have never gone 6 PL games in a row without scoring.
            - Sunderland haven't won any of their last 20 PL matches on a Monday.

              Noclean sheet for chambers

Trigger do you honestly think Sanchez will get bring in the points 3 weeks in a row??

This is coming from a Sanchez owner before he became the sensation this week. Is the popular choice correct all the time? Not necessarily How often is it right? That would be a great stat to keep track of. Aguero's blank last week comes to mind.

I mean I know its Burnley but what are the odds of that happening? This is my rookie year in FPL so I wouldn't know if it happens often but I just can't see it.

Can't afford Sanchez without taking a hit and there's no obvious options (need to free up 1.5m and drop either Chadli, Siggy or Pelle). So thinking of either:

                A. Sterling to Ramsey (no hit)
                B. Pelle to Berahino, freeing up cash for Siggy to Ramsey. Means I keep Sterling.

                Thoughts?

I would stay put now that you missed the Sterling drop and Sanchez rise. After this week, reevaluate, no need to knee jerk now.

Chelsea V QPR. To good an opportunity to miss IMO.

I did Ivan to Chambers, equally good chances of a clean sheet I reckon.
Siggy to Hazard, -4pts, giving me Haz, Fab and Costa.

Sterling to Ramsey? Burnley & Swansea looks like nice fixtures.

Or save and get Walcott when he has some minutes under the belt?

Thing is, Sterling has already dropped and has Chelsea next. I can see Newc pulling an upset and a mass Sterling Exodus.
