Having run the rule over the sides set to ease their way into December, it’s now time to check on the teams granted a more treacherous path. Monday night’s participants provide the headline acts, while a cloud is hovering ominously over the Potteries. Elsewhere, we offer early warnings on some prime Fantasy assets on show at St Mary’s and the Emirates.

Sunderland

“frisking

Sunderland’s victory at Crystal Palace was all the more crucial given the schedule awaiting both clubs going into December.

Gus Poyet’s side will be desperate to build on the precious three points earned at Selhurst Park but find themselves on a collision course with Everton, Chelsea and Man City in their next three home matches. It’s fair to say that new stopper, Costel Pantilimon, will be kept busy during that period, while Steven Fletcher’s revival will be put to the test given that opportunities could be at a premium in the coming weeks. Poyet has earned results against the “bigger” teams before of course but, even so, the away trip to Leicester in Gameweek 12 looks vital if the Black Cats are to avoid being dragged back down into the relegation places by Christmas.

Crystal Palace

“frisking

Neil Warnock will have known the significance of Monday’s loss, with the fixture computer conspiring against his side over the next five Gameweeks.

A trip to Old Trafford without their suspended skipper Mile Jedinak and attacking spark, Wilfried Zaha, is followed by a home clash with Liverpool and a visit to Swansea. The Eagles then have a crunch clash with Villa at home, before taking on Spurs at the Lane.

Fantasy managers will have been warned off their inconsistent assets following Monday’s defeat and the schedule offers very little incentive to revisit Warnock’s charges until that Villa meeting.

Stoke

“frisking

Pegged back by West Ham on Saturday, Mark Hughes’s men face a torrid run over their next five, with the Britannia meeting with Burnley in Gameweek 12 looking crucial to their chances of retaining a mid-table position. Around that Potteries clash, Stoke face three evil away trips to Spurs, Liverpool and Man United and then a home encounter with Arsenal.

Hughes’ rearguard has shipped seven goals in their last four: if you’ve held your Stoke defensive assets through that period, now is the time to show them the door.

Also be wary of…

Southampton
Ronald Koeman’s outfit currently look unstoppable – capable of scoring goals across the team and reinforced by the best defence in the Premier League. That winning formula will be put to the test, however, once they’ve disposed of the St Mary’s meeting with Leicester and a “routine” trip to the woefully out-of-form Villa. City, Arsenal and United are hovering and they offer enough attacking menace to have us check for alternatives to our Saints defensive assets from Gameweek 13 onwards.

West Brom
While the Baggies face a pair of Hawthorns clashes with Newcastle and West Ham in the next four, encounters with Arsenal and Chelsea are sandwiched in the middle. When you consider Newcastle’s resurgence and West Ham’s goal power, you’d have to say that those holding Ben Foster or Andre Wisdom will be anticipating scant returns from that quartet. Meanwhile, Saido Berahino owners will likely be holding with one eye on West Ham’s Diafra Sakho as a cheaper replacement with stronger fixtures to come.

Arsenal
While the Gunners are being fired by the genius of Alexis Sanchez, Arsene Wenger’s flat-track bullies do not have the easiest of runs in the coming weeks. They may well get results against Swansea, United, West Brom and Southampton but – on paper – they’re up against three of the most improved defences over that spell. Bizarrely, given United’s casualties at the back, the Emirates meeting with Louis van Gaal’s men may actually provide the best platform for goals.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Absoloutely.

      Cheap. Involved. Good stats. Playing well. Confident. On pens.

      Wouldn't put too much attention on fixtures. Especially Chelsea and Arsenal. Neither of them have been great defensively.

        There's a case for ensuring we keep either of Sakho/Berahino/Austin within sight of our budgets..that might mean following the £'s for a week or two to ensure one doesn't drift off as a pick..I really can't see much between them, apart from fixtures

          I like the way Berahino is playing. He looks like he can always get goals from the positions he takes up. On a better day he could have had a couple against Leicester. Sits on the shoulder, beats the offside trap, gets in between the lines, runs in behind. I like him.

            So do I..quality player...All three of those "minows " are in their own way...Austin (and QPR) have improved dramatically since Zamora has been involved in a few games..It just seemed to give them a kick up the back side. Maybe he should be player manager as of old..coming on for the odd 45 mins...

      Yes, sticking with my team for now without Sanchez. I don't want to downgrade Baines, Fab, ADM, Costa or Aguero to accommodate, as there are very strong fixture and form reasons for keeping all five.

      Also the captaincy factor was a major factor last week that I don't see happening again short-term; i.e. the fact Sanchez racked up a huge haul and Costa blanked. With both Aguero/Costa having tasty upcoming fixtures, I don't see that kind of 28 point swing again. I hope anyway!

      As far as the ship has sailed, I'm not so sure. Look at ADM. A few weeks ago his price was rising out of sight and now it's falling back. If there's one thing we know about Fantasy Football, it's that the herd will blindly follow the points and performance on a very short term basis. A couple of blanks from Sanchez and that price will be falling again. Guaranteed.

    @Toon Norn Iron:

    The key to defensive form for me is to look at Shots conceded inside the box and Big Chances conceded for the last six game weeks. I have been taking these into consideration in my captaincy choices and they have worked well so far for me.

    Captaincy selection for me is a combination of:

    -For player: (last 4 game weeks)

    Shots inside box
    Penalty area touches
    Chances created

    Ivanovic set to drop soon. I'm really surprised he hasn't already fallen like a stone, especially to fund Sanchez...or the straight swap to Baines...Strange...

      I'm keeping him... Could have scored against United at Old Trafford and QPR the other day as well. With Chelsea's defensive stats on the rise and the following set of fixtures to follow (see below) , he is still a good pick.

        I won't dispute that..he'll come good again and no doubt. With his slight returns in the last few weeks and the need to fund better picks in Baines and Sanchez I would have thought he'd have been the prime mover...Unless of course he belongs in a lot of already "dead" teams.

      people tend to want to hang onto their most expensive assets to prove their decision right. I did it with RVP last year - felt his cost meant he was almost guaranteed a big haul and any transfer would be a downgrade. It's daft when seen objectively of course.

    How to fit in Sanchez?

    Krul / Mannone
    Baines / Bertrand / Moore / Wilson / Taylor
    Boyd / Sigurdsson / ADM / Sterling / Chadli
    Aguero / Costa / Pelle

    2 FT 0.1M in the bank

    A) Sterling + Costa ----> Sanchez + Sakho
    B) Sterling + Costa + Siggy ----> Sanchez + Sakho + Oscar (-4)
    C) Sterling + Baines -----> Sanchez + Chambers
    D) Sterling ---> Downing this week. Pelle + Siggy ----> Sakho + Sanchez next week.

    Any better suggestions?

    Anyone that has Welbeck I'd advise you to ditch, the guy is absolutely useless in front of goal.

    His positional sense for a few crosses last night were not up to the standard of a top premier league striker. His build up play is good but that's about it.

    Just my observation from last nights game.
