As we brace ourselves for yet another international break, we turn to Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures and delve into the data in our first members article of the week. We assess Southampton’s chief creator and main frontman as the points start to dry up, cast an eye over Chelsea’s penalty box predator, Man City’s talismanic Argentine and Newcastle’s recent defensive displays as the clean sheets keep coming for Alan Pardew’s men.

No Chelsea player will hurt you soon IMO.
Is this worth it?
GW12: Fabregas>Sanchez FT
Bego (Krul)
Baines Clyne Chambers (naylor wisdom)
Sterling Sanchez Oscar Tadic (Downing)
Aguero(c) Pelle Austin
GW13: WC to this:
Krul (Foster)
Baines Naylor Chambers (Wisdom 3.9)
Sterling Sanchez ADM Siggy Downing
Aguero Costa (4.3)No
not much diff
3-4 changes max...not a WC moment IMOCheers, much appreciated.
Is Downing to Chadli a worthwhile transfer or just save it.
I always start Downy as my 4th mid.Keep for next 3
I prefer downing over Chadli.. on set pieces and Westham in good attacking form. Spurs have been HORRID going forward and look liek they've run out of ideas. Chadli relies purely on open play to score goals(no set pieces) and he cant do much if he does not get the supply. can see his points drying up soon
keep downing
Fabregas > Hazard now?
Fabregas > Walcott later?I would keep Fab, so the latter.
Until his booking 😉
Costa bound to get one the same week
Any updates on Fabregas' injury?
He isn't in the Spain squad, so has a nice two week rest. Should be fit.
Reply to my post on the previous page if you want to predict any future bandwagons. I'm going to review it every gameweek.
Feeling as though this GW was just what I needed to kick on, now. 😀
What's the average around here?70
72
Well I got 68 and pretty much stayed still in rank - tiny rise. So I guess that is about average.
68 with Siggy on the bench
96(-4)
Link.
Haha. The jealousy. 😉
I'm on 74 and don't feel I did very well
Why?
No particular reason. Annoyed Baines did well, that Sakho didn't while Austin did. It's always the 'what could have been' that gets to me.
88
Interesting - cheers, lads.
79 with Duff & Siggy on my bench
I'm sure many of you have been in the 200k-500k rank range, and the top 5k / top 10k. Just curious as to how your strategy changes the higher in rank you are?
Is it a case of starting to follow the crowd abit more, spending more time on picking captains, minimal hits, keeping a strong core of highly-owned players etc.
Feel free to share your thoughts below - seems like many are having a good season unlike previous ones. Might be a good time to share some stories!Did okay last year, main strategy post Jan was to check fpldiscovery and make sure I had the high ownership players covered
I just stick to my gameplan of planning ahead
Definitely - fail to plan, plan to fail. But I'm sure strategy shifts when it becomes more a case of consolidating position than punts to make up points.
Had to change it to get Sanchez so adaptability is also key
Fab and Costa yellows will throw a curveball
I don't change strategy based on rank, but I have moved overall from a huge focus on fixtures, to more focus on value and captains, with fixtures less dominant to my picks.
I did once change style based on rank - when in the top 1k with 5-6 GWs left, I decided to be extremely aggressive in the hope of getting even higher. I ended up around 4 thousandth so that failed somewhat!RANK : 11 K
strategy : ( gettin lucky) + FFS
Captain picks: goin with gut ( again luck)
WBUgreat points. tend to agree with focus on value, captains and form. I've definitely learned that fixtures are a fallacy and can't be seen in isolation unless it's a clear case of 2 teams in opposite forms (as case was for Arsenal v Burnley).
I find personally, in my ML, in the past when i'm leading, I took more notice to other teams chasing and tried to block - but that messed up my own plan and team structure and usually end up losing the lead.
However, this season i'm trying to focus on my own team, stick to my own plan and transfer strategy. Working thus far.I do definitely still care a lot about fixtures. The mistake I made in previous seasons though, was selling a player with amazingly good value for someone not particularly consistent, just because of a shift in fixtures.
Now I have certain limitations beyond which I won't sell players based on fix.Same - case in point Sigurdsson I guess. Thanks for the replies!
No change for me, try to keep my approach the same regardless of rank. Not easy if you find yourself ranked much lower than you would really like!
Identifying who are the core players and build ur team around them.
Also try to minimise 1 week punt. Very seldom work outCheers moneyface, good point on the core players. I've never put much investment in defence before, but trying a different tactic this season and it's been fantastic.
Yea stopped with 1 week punts last season - unless it was before WC or for DGWs.Good luck! Investing in def could be a good choice since everyone got more or less the same attackers
Fàbregas has only blanked against Liverpool, City and Villa.
He has returned points in 8 out of 11 weeks. We want more!
Wally is on his heelsBut for he price (9M which most paid) he is a bargain for ticking over points each week. A more reliable and consistent David Silva. It also means I can afford other players like Sánchez and ADM for the chance of explosive returns.
Cheap strikers are a constant source of discussion on here yet I'm not sure anybody actually ever gets any of their points. By their nature, they are almost always inconsistent and hit form in fleeting moments, so by the time everybody has got them their moment is up. I've been burnt by Naismith and Ulloa before deciding it's simply not worth it, especially when there's 6mil mids who are delivering most weeks.
Which is why I never go for them
Although I have broken my rule and got Sakho in to fund Sanchezfair point
but I still need one cheap striker to support my Aguero Costa, two premium mids, three cheap mids, and a big hitting defense where I'll start four most weeks... until I improve team value a bit moreWhat approach have you gone for then? Costa-Aguero-4.3?
Baines Clyne xx
AdM Sanchez Siggy Downing
Costa Aguero Pelle
has worked a treat. Forked out the coin for Pelle in GW4 and haven't looked back since. Points + transfers not wasted jumping from cheapo to cheapo.I'm on Aguero - Pelle - Welbeck. If I get Costa back in, it'll be by downgrading somewhere in midfield, but not with a cheap striker.
Bojan > Naismith > Ulloa > Sakho/Berahino > Austin
I'm pretty sure there are many who made those exact chain of transfer and did not catch a single goal or assist.swap sakho with welbeck and thats me 😀
The only vaguely budget striker I have ever owned who showed real consistency was Cisse in his first season 2011/12.
Aguero vs Costa captaincy choice for me could come down to which one among Silva and Fabregas is passed fit. If both are fit or unavailable, I'll probably go Aguero.
In the same boat and will be using the same strategy. Both so vital to their point returns, generally.
has to be Aguero 12 goals in 11 games? in a poor City team, surely they can only get better
Im going with aguero. Form, penalties and form.
That moment when you reach 2nd place in your ML, and you realize there really is only your ML rival, and you...
... because you're still 78 points back from first place and the other 30 teams are fading away. The number that goes for the player in the photo and the article title. 😉
got rid of for costa
The facial expression is relevant haha
pre season there were some posters who knew about Pelle warning the boards that this is not a prolific striker. Looks like they were right.
Still a good EPL striker, but just not clinical enough to be a true big hitter.
what are Sterling owners doing then.
hanging on or for that price moving to other options.Time to move on bro...
this is the wise move imo
Until Sturridge is back, then it will be different scenario.
Used to think that way but surely Liverpool's all-round poor performances can't be because Studge is out?
Sturridge conducts the defensive and goalkeeping training. He's been sorely missed.
Logically yes, but their performances will improve once Studge is back, attacking wise.
If you've got other pressing matters, he can wait. If he's the only issue with your team Sterling âž¡ one of Siggy,Downing &Chadli [in no particular order]--Hell, throw in Oscar.
... almost time to go back to him, if you had sold him
right now, you're going to lose .2 or .3 in value over the break
but Sturridge is due back at the end of the break and if he's passed fit, I may transfer Sterling back in Saturday morningsell.
Hi Mates.. 2 consecutive GWs of 85 took me to 17k.
Should i do
Berty -> Dummett and
Pelle -> Costa (-4) ?
Will give me
Fabianski
Baines , Clyne , Dummett
Sanchez , ADM , Siggy , Downing
Kun , Costa (C) , Welbeck
Bench : McCarthy , Chambers , Boyd , HuttonWanna get milner out (duh)
He is 5.3 and i got 1.0m itb
I am considering Fellaini, i think he is nailed on right now and a big goalthreat.
Or do the boring thing and get downing?
Or save and hope on milner one more time?do the boring thing
The thing that really kills people in this game is unnecessary risks, especially when chasing.
Thanks. I feel more confident with downing after 30 min looking into it.
Now the question is do i transfer him in right away.
RANK : 11 K
strategy : ( gettin lucky) + FFS
Captain picks: goin with gut ( again luck)
WBUWhat do people think of Fabregas>Sanchez FT?
It's trading a consistent player for a more explosive one. It makes sense.
cheers. Fabregas should get his next yellow soon too which would be great.
if Sanchez keeps it up, it's brilliant
otherwise, I rather do Fabregas to Sterling the morning of the 22nd if Sturridge is passed fit... and have money ITB to do other thingsi have sterling still
i don't know then
sterling is about to useful again
Do it!
If Bojan goes on a good run to troll us all, I'm going to start calling him Trojan
After seeing what Montero did to Chambers, imagine what Di Maria could do to him!
Chambers is not a good fullback, that's all! He almost gave away a pen (stonewall) and was all over the place way too many times!
Has to be Aguero (c) over Costa this week, doesn't it?
Costa for me.
Rested for 2 weeks and playing at home. This
Aguero's internationals are being played in England, I believe.
Also at home, too.But Costa will be fully rested and Swansea are better team than Westbrom
Kun for me
Aguero for me.
oh dear
i have a comment marked for review
probably because i referenced fantasy football scout by its abbreviation... geezSeriously? FFS!
(Nope)
i don't know
it was actually responding to your Bojan note above
was trying to be funny... ah well...Ha. What else did you say? If you can slightly conceal the words!
and is anyone around to review it
in any case, the momentary humor of it has probably passed...on a separate note, what's with the username change HoH?
Multiple have noted (including a number of mods) that Frank Black puts in a consistently good effort with the Scout Picks Community Challenge. I think it was a comment by Atletico Timbo that made me notice.
I looked a bit more, and he does make a great effort every week. Thus, I have decided to support the Frank Black candidacy for community champion until he wins.
He was without a grav when I met him, but I did subsequently encourage him to get a grav to help his candidacy, which he did... though I almost regret that part.
I think that's most of the story. Have seldom chatted with him, but seems like a very good guy who puts a solid effort in every week for the Community Challenge.
That's all, really.* Multiple people
(geez, forgot the 2nd word in what I wrote... must be tired)any link to his challenge team for this week? I stopped voting for the picks once it became a popularity contest around GW4-5.
didn't see this until later (obviously)
community challenge is not in community articles section, and it isn't out yet for this week
part of my support for him is the precise issue you brought up, it shouldn't be a popularity contest
meh this transfer business would be so much easier if i had just done sterling>sanchez to begin with instead of complicating things with siggy>oscar... sigh
yeah... well regret is like that
I could have brought in Sanchez at 10.3 but went for Hazard
Of course, I now just had enough money to bring in Costa for Pelle and would have been .4 short if I had gotten Sanchez so.... meh...From time to time, you just have to act early.
Oscar can be your straight swap back to Sterling once he becomes a bargain 😉
haha, i have both oscar and sterling 😉
Krul Elliot
Baines Terry Chambers Wisdom Hutton
Di Maria Hazard Sigurdsson Eriksen Wanyama
Agüero Pelle Welbeck
1 FT, 0.0 ITB
Is this worth getting Sanchez in
A) Eriksen & Welbeck out for Sanchez & Zamora (would mean I basically have to play Wanyama or Zamora) -4
B) Eriksen & Welbeck & Terry out for Sanchez & Austin & Trippier
C) Forget about Sanchez for now and replace Eriksen with someone else like Chadli or DowningHelp please 🙂
Just checked my team jumped from 79,131 to 26,342 🙂
Nice one
Good jaaab. How do you plan to move further up the rankings?
How Tadic has so little returns with such amazing stats is bizarre.
The only stats worth looking at his scenario are the No. of Goals and Assists...that's it..
thats silly.
You're doing this wrong...that's it...
The PPG is the only stat that matters imo.
Then get Ulloa, Naismith and Dier. Let's see how that works for you.
Nope. Better ppgs available.
Thinking of letting him go?
The Bertie-Tadic-Pellé combo stays for another gw (avl next), but I'll break it up next. Not sure if I'll ship Tadic or Pellé.
I have Tadic & Clyne in my team, will keep him for Villa then probably do Tadic => Sterling in the following GW.
He will get more. He played pretty poorly last game by his standards though.
To be fair, if we'd have been offered 1 goal and 4 assists in the last 4 games we'd have accepted that. It just so happened that all those points were in the same game unfortunately (which meant all baps were limited to the same game)
di maria had 6 points, after the next game has amazing fixtures, and stil losing value like he has the plague.
does it make any sense?
should i do di maria to sanchez for -4 only for financial reasons? No but u need Sanchez. Try to get him in other way 🙂
United don't look like scoring many. Di Maria has been poor of late. Another slightly flukey assist but got taken off early.
Well I'm trying to convince myself having sold him 2 weeks back for Sanchez.
i would do it because Sanchez is a better option atm and "no technique Chadli" and "mr. average Downing" offer better value
p.s. out of those amazing fixtures CPL at home was the easiest imotrue. 6 points is quite ok thou.
Fellaini needs to be back on the bench if Di Maria is going to prosper.
Fellaini doesn't have the flexibility to interchange with Di Maria, while Herrera does. It allows Di Maria to cut in more often with Herrera moving to make up for the runs on the wings. Fellaini can't.
However, Fellaini does offer more defensive resillience in midfield and a bigger presence in attacks while Herrera is abit more likely to lose physical battles in midfield.
Difficult decision for LVG to make next game.
It is interesting. I know that Collins is truly crap - but does BFS?
In every single game since he started playing, the Hammers have been on quite a steep slide down my defensive tables:
http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/1285/
http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/2283/Good jaaab you have a kiwi in there to sort you lot out. 😉
He is very good. 🙂
"does BFS?" erm I have no idea what that means, but it sounds wrong!
does Big Fat Sam - Allardice, of that ilk.
Ah, come to think of it, you said BFS a few days ago and I got it.
I must need coffee.
Bungs for Sam 😉
there is stats, lots of stats, and doosra.
you never stop to suprise with the stuff you look at 🙂😀 You ain't seen nuthin' yet! 😉
Collins was in ESPN'S TOTW
He is really annoying me.

Please suggest how to get COSTAADM->Downing
Ber->Costa
Simples.Isn't it better to get rid of fab?
You must be related to Rickardinho.
The case against keeping Fabregas:
- 4 YC's, only a matter of time before he gets a 5th and drops in price
- People are already selling him (13th most sold player today, -1000)
- His stats from last 5 matches are significantly worse than his stats from his first 6. His position maps show him playing deeper than before for example, and numbers are also down.
- He depends a lot on set piece assists for points, but 3 of his next 4 games are against teams who concede very few headed chances and chances from set pieces (Newcastle, Sunderland, WBA)
- Oscar takes just as many FK's as him (0.4 per game each).
Anyone disagree with this, or have any comments to add?Cheaper options like Siggy, Chadli, Downing, and Oscar are in better form than him right now too, and selling him could also help get ADM/Hazard/Sanchez.
I will probably get rid of him for Siggy/Chadli to fit Costa
Errrrr...one of the highest players in the game and you are asking us to agree with you?
😯I'm asking you to agree that keeping him isn't as essential anymore given all the factors i stated, along with how many good budget options there are.
I think you are missing the bigger picture here, Rick. I've just watched the Liverpud game and I noticed that Henderson went man to man the whole game.
Forget this game.
He will keep producing all season long. If you take the view that CHS are the team to beat, Fabs will be in the points for a good deal longer.
You make some interesting points but for me, a CHS mid is essential.Good points. Fabregas also played QPR and cpl though which contribute to the more withdrawn positions too, not just the Liverpool game.
I agree that a Chelsea mid is essential, but thats why I have Oscar 😉 ... he's more advanced, takes far more shots on goal and touches in the box, and shares FK's with Fab. The only difference is the corners, but as you saw in the Liverpool game, alot of those corners aren't headed at goal directly but bounce around in the box so Fab won't get that many assists from that really.
I'll gladly take 1.1m saving between Fab-Oscar and go and get Sanchez instead now that Oscar has showed that he is nailed on (while Fabregas is "injured" or "might be rested") 🙂
I did not think that he was value, even when he was over-producing.
What about Hazard then?
i've got oscar, so thats where im at. doing pelle>costa, and i think the new pair to have is oscar-costa rather, to allow going big with sanchez-aguero-baines, and possibly adm too.
Never had him, never will
