As always during international breaks, the treatment tables around the country tend to be that little bit busier as the knocks and niggles escalate. Once again, we scour the weekend’s match reports and press conferences and take stock on the latest batch of injury worries.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker kept his place in the Villa XI despite the availability of Philippe Senderos away to West Ham on Saturday. The centre-half limped out of the proceedings midway through the second-half, however, with Paul Lambert going on to say:

“I thought Nathan was excellent. I really did. He put his head on everything and defended very strongly with Ron. It was a big performance from him and hopefully his knee is okay.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho started with both Ramires and Cesc Fabregas in midfield as the Blues came from behind to see off Liverpool at Anfield. The Brazilian was replaced just after the break, however, and, whilst Fabregas managed the full 90 minutes, their manager revealed both played through the pain barrier, with Mourinho expecting Fabregas to play no part in Spain’s upcoming internationals:

“Ramires and Fabregas both played injured. Maybe the team will lose them for a match or two now but they put themselves there for the team, like I am sure others will in the future because the spirit of the team is fantastic. Fabregas has a hamstring injury, Ramires is the same thing [groin] as before but he knew for my plan it was important for him to start the game. Fabregas is a fantastic professional and he gambled and I gambled. He can join up with Spain but if he does he will be back.”

Andre Schurrle has withdrawn from the Germany squad earlier today due to illness.

Everton
The Toffees have issues in central midfield after yesterday’s draw against Sunderland. Gareth Barry was stretchered off with a leg injury and, after the match, Roberto Martinez confirmed the former Villa man is set for x-rays:

“As he fell, Gareth is stretching his leg and he gets caught. He is having an X-ray on his tibia.””

Martinez also went on to reveal that James McCarthy picked up a hamstring injury against the Black Cats:

“It is a concern, he needs assessing and hopefully it is just fatigue.”

Hull
The injury worries in defence continued for Steve Bruce last weekend. Hull travelled to Burnley without the likes of Michael Dawson and Alex Bruce and, having made all three substitutions early in the second-half, the Tigers boss had to finish the match with 10 men after Curtis Davies was forced off through injury:

“Curtis has a back problem, but we’re not quite sure what at this stage.”

Manchester City
Edin Dzeko lasted just four minutes of the weekend draw at QPR before limping off with a calf injury. Benched yet again as Manuel Pellegrini rolled out a lone striker system, the Bosnian entered the proceedings on 64 minutes only to limp back down the tunnel just a few moments later. Dzeko has since withdrawn from the Bosnia squad earlier today, with reports earlier this evening suggesting he could be sidelined for three weeks.

Man United
Louis van Gaal confirmed that Paddy McNair was subbed off late on during United’s win over Palace due to cramp, allaying any fears of another injury concern for the Old Trafford outfit.

Newcastle
Steven Taylor missed yesterday’s win at West Brom due to injury, as Alan Pardew opted for Paul Dummett at centre-half alongside Fabricio Coloccini, despite the availability of fit-again Mike Williamson. The latter replaced the Argentine late in the second-half, however, after Coloccini was forced off with a knock on 78 minutes.

QPR
The R’s midfielder Sandro picked up yet another injury problem during the weekend draw with City. Having played the full 90 minutes just twice since arriving at Loftus Road, the Brazilian was replaced by Joey Barton at half-time after picking up a hamstring problem.

Southampton
Midfielder Steven Davis failed to make it to half-time in the weekend win over Leicester. After the match, Ronald Koeman was optimistic on the Northern Ireland international’s chances of a quick recovery:

“He had a little feeling in his hamstring and I hope it will not be really an injury, one or two weeks, but tomorrow we can make the scan and say something more about that.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes is sweating on the fitness of two of his first-choice back-four as we head into the international break, after both Phil Bardsley and Marc Wilson were forced off early during yesterday’s win at Spurs.

Swansea
Garry Monk was without a trio of players for the Swans’ 2-1 win over Arsenal yesterday. Centre-half Federico Fernandez was absent with a calf complaint, whilst wide men Wayne Routledge and Nathan Dyer were also unavailable due to groin injuries.

Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino played down injury fears after Danny Rose needed to take on an oxygen mask at the end of yesterday’s home loss to Stoke:

“[He] took a kick to the chest. He is okay.”

West Brom
Sebastien Pocognoli was replaced at the break during the Baggies home loss to Newcastle after picking up a muscle injury. The left-back has since withdrawn from the Belgium squad earlier today, with reports suggesting he could be out for up to three weeks.

West Ham
Speaking to the press after Saturday’s goalless draw against Villa, Sam Allardyce admitted he gambled with Winston Reid’s fitness and played the centre-half for the full 90 minutes despite a slight recurrence of the problem that forced him off on 23 minutes away to Stoke in the previous Gameweek:

“I wanted to bring Winston Reid off because he was feeling his thigh a bit, but at that point I just felt he had to stay on for us to go and get the winner. I wanted to put Andy on rather than change Reidy for James Tomkins, so I hope Winston’s alright.”

Do I do Tadic>Oscar now and avoid risk of price changes (have exactly the right amount ITB to stick to plan)

    Or

Wait until after the Brazil friendly on the 12th to be sure Oscar isn't injured, but risk price changes in the next day or two...

    Team is:
    Krul
    Baines - Chambers - Colo
    Tadic - Downing - Chadli - Sanchez
    Aguero - Costa - Pelle

Subs: Boyd - Duff - Naylor - Foster
    0.9 ITB, 1FT

Both Tadic & Oscar are nowhere near a price rise/fall atm. You should wait.

      Thats a tough one.

Personally I don't mind taking risks during the break with FT's. Already used 2FT's to do Welbeck>Austin and Fabregas>Sanchez...

However, Tadic has a good fixture, so from that perspective there's no urgency.

I have Oscar though and think he's gonna be one of the top scoring mids in the next 7 GW's... up to you 😉

Hmmmm....... If you have 0.9 itb and Oscar costs 8.4. And the lowest PP for Tadic was 7.5 and his current price is 7.9 the lowest SP one could have is 7.7. So you should at least have 0.2 leverage which means you are not in a rush and should deffo wait for Brazil's friendlies!

he did say "according to plan", which im guessing means that he will use the 0.2 elsewhere...

Yeah, especially when its 3 weeks from now!

I try to have my "plan A", or a team that im trying to move towards, but try to keep my options as open as possible.

For example, I can either get Zamora+ADM+1.7(for Coleman maybe) next GW, or I can get Boyd+Costa+0.7(for azpi)... options! 🙂

Depends who fits in best with your current defenders MR. Work out what GW you would need this new defender to play (look at the ticker and see when your other defenders have bad fixtures. See which teams with 4.5m or less defenders have good fixtures in those weeks).

yeah, 3 germans are a must this round. luckily reus and schurrle are out which means less hard options. Muller + 2 of Gotze/Bellarabi/Kroos, but it depends on Kruse starting.

Used an early FT to get Austin (and eventually put some money in my defence..)

But I am tempted to use my WC none the less mainly because I do not have Baines and some mess at the back

    DDG
    Chester Chambers Clyne
    Siggy Tadic ADM Sanchez
    Aguero(C) Costa Austin

    Hamer Marney Moore Wisdom

    1.9 in bank. 0 FT

    WC or not?

    Ivan, Baines, Clyne
    Hazard, Tadic, Chadli, Downing
    Costa, Pelle, Welbeck

    Moore, Boyd, Chambers

    1 FT & £3m itb.

Worried it might be a GW too soon to drop Pelle but have exact money for Pelle ➡ Costa. What to do?

Have you already forgotten that ADM has only 5 points less than Costa (and they've played the same amount of games), and costs 1m less, with HUL STO next?

which is even more strange when you have Coleman vs Azpi as a "makeweight". I'd have Coleman all day every day from those, and fwiw I think Zamora is a better cheap 8th attacker than boyd 😛

Btw, Coleman has only played 7 games, yet has only 10 points less than hazard... and costs 6.9.... madness to pass that up imo

          1. rickardinho
            • 11 Years
            11 years, 8 months ago

            PPG:

            Costa 7.0
            Azpilizueta 3.6
            ---------------- 10.6

            ADM 6.4
            Coleman 5.6
            -------------12.0

            Prices:
            Costa 11.0, Azpi 6.0 = 17.0
            ADM 10.0, Coleman 6.9 = 16.9

Chelsea could get more CS's (4/11), but then again so could Everton (only 3/11), and that 0.9 difference in price between Coleman and Azpilizueta is likely to earn more points than the difference between Costa and ADM, as shown above (12 to 10.6ppg).

            Captain-points factor:
Of course there's the captaincy aspect of Costa, but I'll have Aguero captained most weeks anyways, and Sanchez and ADM are also valid captains.

            Yellow-cards:
Getting ADM-Coleman avoids the Costa YC risk too. There will no doubt be people who buy Costa the week he gets his 5th YC who are then annoyed by their decision. Its imminent, so why risk it if there are other equally good options?

For me it makes more sense to go for Coleman-ADM, but happy to hear some counter-arguments!

DZ, I'm planning on HOLDing FT this GW...
Clyne to Azpi and Pelle to Welbz for the 2FTs next GW

    Guzan (Gilks)
    Baines, Clyne, Chambers (Dummett, Yun)
    Haz, ADM, Siggy, Downing (Marney)
    Kun, Pelle, Costa

    All sound sound?

Saving looks great. Clyne to Azpilililili looks great. Bringing in Welbz seems like you haven't watched an Arsenal game in over a month..

This! Although I still think Welbz is decent considering his price. People just expect more since he's the striker for a top 4 team.

Decent considering his price is fair but less decent than Sakho, Austin, and Enner all at a lesser price at this moment in time. For me, anyway 🙂

Don't know if I could play Downing and Sakho together in any GW to be honest though. Got Austin in FOX game last week, so know his appeal. But Welbz to me would start for my team week in week out, not be benched like I would with these two - probably missing their unexpected hauls like Austin v City.... AND would only save 1.5 on Welbz to either and wouldnt be a viable upgrade for Downing or Siggy

It's going to be a sad thing for you then when Giroud returns and Welbeck is benched, as he should be, since he has been playing like complete shit recently. I can't share your reservations towards playing both Sakho and Downing as they have wonderful fixtures over the next monthish and how positive they've looked going forward. Getting rid of Welbeck is my number one priority and I've been watching Arsenal games closely the last few weeks. He's been absolutely terrible.

Morning DZ, any of these moves look decent?

    A) Wisdom/Hutton & Pelle -> Azpil/Terry & Austin

    B) Chadli & Pelle -> Walcott & Kane/Naismith

    C) Chadli & Pelle -> Sterling/Oscar & Austin

    Krul, Elliot
    Baines, Chambers, Hutton, Wisdom, Yun
    Sanchez, Hazard, Siggy, Chadli, Albrighton
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

    Bank 0.0m, 2 free transfers...

Not a lot of option there. Maybe Chambers > Naylor and play Hutton if he is fit. Don't really rate Chambers though I have had him since GW 1. Card magnet and only has attacking threat when Arsenal dominate possession. That or let the transfer rollover. Great team!

Cheers. Thing with Chambers is that an ARS defender for 4.5m (what I paid) is too good to turn down. Kos will be back soon so we should tighten up a little at the back.

When you say let the transfer roll over, you mean just lose it? That goes against the grain a bit! 😉

Yes I know, I have never managed to do it 😀 but I would rather waste the transfer than losing an in form Mid (Chadli) or Pelle with a plum fixture and the assists ticking even if he isn't scoring!

                What about Albrighton -> Gibson?

Should play next week (WHU) I think if Barry/McCarthy are out (and I could think about benching Siggy (mci) ?

Could certainly burn me that one

More likely to get burned like Siggy GW 1. And then you also forfeit your chance of gaining the value back on Albrighton (I assume you bought for 4.5). Although that possibility is slim. Albrighton > Gibson isn't an upgrade for me.

I feel like Chadli has been rather fortunate of late, ie not doing much in games, Spurs looking rubbish, but just getting in the right spots at times. Not sure if that will continue, plus their fixtures stiffen soon.

Losing Chadli won't be popular as he's on form (points wise at least) but I just fancy him to drop off a little.

Massively dragged down by CHE in GW20, which is an age away. Their 'tough' fixtures include EVE and MUN, both horrible defences.

A rubbish Monk/Bony/penalty story. Last season, think it was a European game, Bony took a penalty and lashed it into the top of the net. Looked great but he took a bit of a bollocking off the coaches for it as you're not really supposed to do that.

Anyway, the penalty gets awarded and Monk (who had just taken over as manager and despite having been at the club for about a decade) turns to whoever was next to him on the bench and says:

                "who takes our penalties?"

If he was from the North he'd be too malnourished and short to play world football. Everyone knows this.

North Korea played South Korea in the final of the Asian games the other month. They weren't bad. South Korea won in extra time.

oh QPR' left back. QPR's defending is horrid though why would people bring him in?

      Because he's 3.9m?

QPR are improving and have good fixtures so he's a decent option for a 3.9m bench fodder prospect.

I have cash for Pelle to Costa but I just don't wanna. Feel like I'd rather get Coleman or someone.

Is it really daft of me not to get Costa?

I think it should be the go-to move for those without him this week. Depends on your priorities though really.

Also Scoredelario I was thinking of giving the Rainy Day League a bit of a spruik. Any objections?

Besides no Sanchez , very nice team .
