The Suspension Tightrope doubled in size after an incident-packed Gameweek 11 brought a host of players closer to an automatic one-match ban. Whilst last week’s seven incumbents managed to steer clear of the referee’s wrath and remain on four yellows, they were joined by a further seven players, with Diego Costa the most notable new entry, after the Chelsea striker kept up his remarkable record of being booked in every away appearance in the league so far.

Having missed back-to-back road trips to Palace and Man United over Gameweeks 8-9, Costa’s caution during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Liverpool added to cards accrued at Burnley, Everton and Man City, and given his ability to rack up the yellows on his travels, a ban looks imminent.

Joining Costa on four bookings after their weekend indiscretions are Andreas Weimann, Liam Moore, Richard Dunne, Morgan Schneiderlin and Swansea defensive duo Neil Taylor and Ashley Williams, compounding Garry Monk’s worries at the back, with the likes of Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez both missing the 2-1 win over Arsenal through injury.

Costa’s caution means that the two most popular players in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game are in danger of toppling off the Tightrope. The 56%-owned Chelsea striker joins team-mate Cesc Fabregas (sitting in 53% of teams), whilst Southampton’s top scorer Graziano Pelle is another asset with big ownership sailing close to the wind.

In terms of newly banned players, Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton is set to face a two-match suspension after earning his second dismissal of the season last weekend. The right-back was sent packing during Sunday’s 2-1 home loss to Stoke after bringing down Victor Moses as the last man, with the Potters winger bearing down on goal. Naughton misses a trip to Hull and home clash with Everton and returns just in time for a Gameweek 14 trip to Chelsea, but with Kyle Walker set to return to first-team training next week, Naughton’s pitch time now looks at major risk.

Unsurprisingly, Tottenham’s decision to appeal Naughton’s ban was rejected by the FA yesterday, after an independent regulatory commission ruled he was guilty of denying Moses a goalscoring opportunity.

Naughton is one of three players suspended for Gameweek 12 duties. QPR defender Rio Ferdinand serves the last of a three-match ban away to Newcastle for his recent Twitter comments, whilst Villa’s Christian Benteke skips the second of a three-match suspension for violent conduct and misses upcoming clashes with Southampton and Burnley.

Arsenal’s Calum Chambers continued his recent ill-disciplined form, and earned a sixth yellow card in just eight Premier League starts for the north London outfit, earning his owners zero points in Sunday’s away loss to Swansea.

Finally, as many as five players return from one-match suspensions in time for Gameweek 12. Both Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole and West Brom’s Craig Gardner toppled off the tightrope in Gameweek 10 and, having sat out the previous round of fixtures, are back in contention for matches against Leicester and Chelsea respectively.

Chris Smalling is available for United’s trip to Arsenal, Palace midfielder and spot-kick taker Mile Jedinak is in the frame as Neil Warnock’s side host Liverpool, whilst Jonjo Shelvey returns for Swansea’s testing trip to the Etihad.

        So true.

To be fair to ADM, his antics are nowhere near as bad at United.

Must be a Spanish thing. He was the most infuriating player to watch

Agree, think the culture here nips in the bud (to an extent). Ultimately Suarez managed to work himself out of so many legitimate penalties through his initial theatrics.

Could I get some advice please guys?

What do you think of bringing in Baines, Downing & Sanchez for Jagielka, sterling and ADM for -4? (0.1 left over so could delay slightly)

Concerned with Fab, Costa & Pelle on 4 YC and international break.

    Cheers in advance.

The people who run football these days really do like to milk the punters. £40 to see a kick about is ridiculous despite the quality of the teams.

Mmm. I'd probably pay that if I knew Ronaldo and Messi were playing. I've never seen either of them play in the flesh, so it doesn't seem like that much to pay to see two players who will one day be seen as legends go up against each other.

Only way United fans will get to see Messi and Ronaldo these days.

Torn at the mo, I have 2FT

              Either
              A) Tadic > Sterling

              B) Tadic + Naylor > Baines + 5.8m

              C) Pelle + Naylor > Baines + 6m

              D) Pelle + Naylor + Tadic > Baines + Chadli + Sakho/Austin (-4)

So basically I don't have a clue ha

I'm swapping out Pelle for Sakho mainly because of Southampton's horrendous upcoming fixture list between now and February (seven out of their nine fixtures between GW13 & GW21 are against "Big Seven" teams) but I was going to hold off until after the Villa game a week on Monday for seemingly obvious reasons. Well, after reading his away statistics I've completely changed my mind. Overall, he's the fourth highest points scorer in the FPL, preceded only Baines, Sanchez and Aguero but his one goal, one assist and one poxy bonus point doesn't even see him crack the Top 30 in the away charts; he's eating dust from the likes of Matic, C.Cole, Jedinak, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Puncheon and even Danny Welbeck's boots.

Bye, Bye Signor. Go invest in some Stugeron tablets.

    Chambers and Cesc
    or
    Azpi and Oscar

Can Arsenal? Chelsea fixtures getting quite good and I think Jose will have them tightening up as the season goes on.

What are Soton-defence-doublers doing after Villa? Ditching one?

I am thinking about dropping Forster, as I think Clyne grabbed at 4.5m is a season keeper for me. I think Fabianski looks like a decent replacement with those fixtures coming up for Swansea.

I don't think its as big a deal as everyone else thinks. Still excellent value and there isn't a lot of clean sheets being procured by players in that range to swap to.

precisely what Im doing, getting fabi / keeping Clyne .
instead Im doing the glamour transfer of Moore to Yun to help cover clynes tough 3 games.

Lads whats wrong with Ya Ya Toure this season??? Why is he playing if he is lacking confidence i know it might be what happened in the summer

Holding him for another week or two .. doubt his price will fall ..

    He was flawless last season

Bellerin is better than Chambers but I doubt he'll make a change for United game.

Can see him dropping out if he gets torn to pieces by ADM though

Montero would skin any defender in the PL 1v1 when given so much space. Absolute joke that Chambers was left out to dry by Wenger.

This!!! Despite what many think Bellerin is not an upgrade over Chambers on the defensive end

        1. Fantasy Gold

Bellerin has better technique. He's much more of a Wenger-type player.

I'm shocked he hasn't used him more

          1. UnderstandablyDistraught
            • 14 Years
            11 years, 4 months ago

He has used him only when absolutely necessary for a reason and that reason is that despite his pace he really needs to develop as a defender. He gets lost.

I'd rather have Bellerin at full back and Chambers in the centre, than Chambers on the right with Monreal as a central defender..

            • 14 Years
            11 years, 4 months ago

fair enough but that does not mean you have upgraded that lb position. Chambers over Monreal in the middle I agree with

The bigger weakness is this, Monreal at CB, 5ft 10 and 70kgs? Just sums up AW attitude to defender.

      2. Fantasy Gold
        • 11 Years

It doesn't help that Chambers has zero pace either.

No, and that is certainly a weakness of his when played at full back, but I've never seen acceleration like Montero before, so not many full backs could match him anyway.

Bellerin is apparently up there with the fastest ever at Arsenal, more so than Henry and Walcott. Not like height was needed to mark Montero.

Montero is a quality player. He never cuts in, always takes the defender on the outside and usually puts a good ball into the box. He is definately a FPL prospect.
