Daniel Sturridge is ruled out once again by Liverpool. Diafra Sakho emerges as a doubt for West Ham, Stewart Downing allays any injury fears, David Silva closes in on a return to action for City, whilst Steven Fletcher is available for Sunderland.

REDS CONFIRM STURRIDGE SETBACK

Liverpool have confirmed that Daniel Sturridge will remain on the sidelines yet again after suffering a fresh thigh injury earlier in the week.

The Scout Says: Whilst his club are remaining coy over the length of absence now expected for Sturridge, reports elsewhere suggest that he could miss another six weeks of action, potentially taking us to Gameweek 21 before he attempts another return. With Liverpool’s schedule looking bright right now (cpl, STO, lei, SUN) we had been backing Sturridge to give his team-mates the lift they need to start delivering serious Fantasy returns, with Raheem Sterling, in particular, signalled out as likely to prosper. Now, however, with Brendan Rodgers likely to persist with a lone striker system, the 8.5-valued winger’s 38% ownership may be set to plummet – with just a single goal in eight appearances without Sturridge on board, there is undoubtedly better value elsewhere for our midfields at the moment.

SAKHO CONCERN FOR HAMMERS

Diafra Sakho is a doubt for West Ham’s trip to Everton this weekend after missing out for Senegal last night with a recurrence of a back problem. Sam Allardyce will, however, be consoled by Stewart Downing’s positive update on the knock he sustained during his England call-up against Scotland:

“I had not trained all week but was passed fit to play and was just happy to get out there and play 45 minutes. I came through it and should be ok for this weekend’s game for West Ham. There’s a bit of swelling on the knee but it’s just a bang. I was fit to play and I was fine.”

The Scout Says: With Enner Valencia grabbing a goal and assist on the last occasion Sakho missed out (in Gameweek 10), and Andy Carroll now available and offering his manager an alternative in the forward department, Sakho owners will be concerned over his pitch time on Saturday. Whilst the 5.9-priced striker has offered superb value to this point, a second stint on the sidelines in three Gameweeks would be a real concern and may make many think twice over his acquisition, with QPR’s Charlie Austin perhaps emerging as a standout alternative. However, the Hammers have a great run of fixtures in their next six (eve, NEW, wba, SWA, sun, LEI) and managers will be keen to account for that. After his assurances, Downing now appears to be the safest option in their attacking ranks, and though he has risen to 6.0, still offers excellent value whilst sitting seventh in the FPL midfield rankings.

SILVA CLOSE TO CITY COMEBACK

David Silva has returned to light training following a knee injury and, though he remains unlikely to be ready for Saturday’s meeting with Crystal Palace, the Spaniard is expected to be fully fit for Man City’s Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich next week.

The Scout Says: Silva has been missing since City’s Capital One Cup tie with Newcastle in October, with the Blues form fluctuating in his absence. The 8.9-priced midfielder scored in his last league appearance, and also claimed maximum bonus points on his way to his first double figure haul of the campaign, though has been blighted with inconsistency this term – producing returns in only three of his nine appearances, the Spaniard has failed to live up to his top bracket price tag. City may have good fixtures ahead (SWA, sou, sun, EVE, lei, CPL), but Silva’s lack of consistency will still deter many, and with Yaya Toure still proving underwhelming, and little else on offer in their midfield, the case for investing in Sergio Aguero as the sole City attacking coverage is only strengthened. Silva’s return could also place question marks over Jesus Navas’ recent run of starts – the winger has featured in the first XI in each of the last four Gameweeks but with Samir Nasri also available, Manuel Pellegrini will have plenty of options available for the flanks once again.

INJURIES EASE FOR SUNDERLAND

Gus Poyet has revealed that Steven Fletcher has recovered from the knock he sustained on international duty with Scotland last week, and is set to feature in Saturday’s trip to Leicester:

“Steven is okay – it was not nice at all watching the game and seeing Fletch coming off. Naturally as human beings we always think the worst, but we got in contact straight away with him and the Scottish medical staff, who were very good. They sent him back to us and we have done everything possible, so I will say I am 100% sure he will play on Saturday.”

Elsewhere, summer signings Ricky Alvarez and Sebastian Coates have returned to full training after recovering from injury.

The Scout Says: Black Cats fans will be breathing a sigh of relief over Fletcher’s recovery, with the Scot having proved key to their recent attacking endeavours. A very winnable clash with Leicester could see him add to his tally of four goals in his last five, though Poyet’s side then face Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and West Ham in their next four, ensuring that few will be considering the 5.3-priced striker as a differential option for now. Meanwhile, Alvarez’s imminent return looks set to heat up the competition on the flanks and perhaps limit the minutes of Adam Johnson and Will Buckley, whilst Coates’ comeback, coupled with Billy Jones’ expected return, affords Poyet plenty of options in defence, though he is unlikely to experiment too much over the course of those upcoming fixtures.

ELEPHANTS PROGRESS TO AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS

A goalless draw against Cameroon last night ensured that the Ivory Coast earned safe passage through to the African Cup of Nations in January.

The Scout Says: The headline Premier League acts for Ivory Coast are Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony, both of whom will now miss at least Gameweeks 22-24 due to their involvement with the ACoN. Both of their sides face testing fixtures during that period, with City squaring up to Arsenal and Chelsea and Swansea also meeting Jose Mourinho’s men as well as Southampton. However, with Toure and Bony both professing current ownership of under 7%, the knock-on effect of yesterday’s qualification on the Fantasy landscape should be minimal, unless either player can rediscover their form from last year prior to their January departure.

Fabregas is expected to be fit, so other than Baines, and maybe Downing, who is injured who people actually own?

I'm not counting Di Maria, because he should have been got rid of a while ago if you ever owned him anyway.

90% of the time those flagged as 75% to start have played. So if 50% of your squad is flagged as 75% to start then mathematically only 5% of your squad will miss out. Which is slightly less than 1 player.

    So I don't see a problem.

Baines owners can be a bit more optimistic though:

'We're checking Leighton on a daily basis. He's someone who heals really quickly and at the moment it's difficult to know if he's going to be involved on Saturday or not - it's going to be touch and go.
I don't expect that injury to go too far. Normally it's between 10 and 14 days but with Leighton you can't really rule him out. I've seen him recover from a similar grade one hamstring problem before in eight days, so we're going to give him as much time as we can to see if he can make it on Saturday. If not, I hope he can be fit for the Wolfsburg game.'

Repost. Want more thoughts about this one. 😛

    Aguero captainers

Are u concerned about that Yaya would probably start from the bench (he had a game yesterday and he was benched last time when he had a int. game at Wednsday) and without him (and of course without Silva) City will be even more weaker against very good Swansea defence?

I think I might switch it to Costa, although WBA is one of the best away teams this season.

-I can't afford Cesc to Eden.
-I'd ideally be looking to save to allow me to remove 2 of the 3 Saints next week for free
-If Baines,Hutton and Moore don't play, I'll end up playing with 10 men. ðŸ™

It's annoying because there's no clear news on players who are a doubt.

3 Saints is perfectly fine this week. Tadic may be fine. Wait for news.

You can't have them all so I wouldn't say no Costa/Hazard is the end of the world, but it's worth trying to get Costa long-term IMO. Fabregas will almost certainly play IMO

Sakho is annoying but since he isn't confirmed out there's not much point doing anything.

That said, I would focus mainly on improving your team for the long-term, not just for this week. Maybe look at sorting out Moore, assuming he's lost his place. The replacement needs to have a decent fixture this week, and next week you will have a clearer picture about how to go about sorting the lack of Costa, which would probably mean downgrading a big-hitter and selling Pelle

Actually scrap that, just save the FT, you can use it to much better effect next week

Thanks for such a detailed response. Much appreciated 🙂

        As I pointed out above,

-I'd ideally be looking to save to allow me to remove 2 of the 3 Saints next week for free
-Having said that, if Baines,Hutton and Moore don't play, I'll end up playing with 10 men. ðŸ™

So it's a straight choice between:

-Saving (getting rid of 2 of the 3 Saints next week and getting more Chelsea attack next week)
        OR
-Making a transfer this week -> Moore to either Duff/Wisdom/Yun/Dummett (and getting rid of 1 of the Saints next week)

I guess I'll add that I'll bite the bullet and play Boyd if Sakho doesn't make it.

Maybe just hold the transfer and take a -4 next week to offload your entire Southampton contingent?

Downgrade Clyne to someone cheaper, do Pelle -> Costa, and buy the best midfielder you can afford with what you have left.

I'd probably just hold on to the injury doubts for this week unless there's any confirmed news tomorrow. Also don't see any need to rush into offloading your cheap defenders - you can transfer them out when you have spare transfers later.

As I see it, once things are confirmed, you can then make a call - pre-empting may backfire.

Andy Carroll set to start v Everton

The news comes as Stewart Downing and Diafra Sakho are both probable to miss the game after they joined the Prem’s growing international casualty list.

Clyne, Mane, Pelle -> Naylor, Hazard, Austin

Hoping they're good long term moves although I accept they look 1 GW early.

Ooh, that's really tough. I guess you couldn't leave out the Clyne transfer as you wouldn't be able to afford the other two? Or am i mistaken

Nope, you're spot on - the Pelle & Clyne moves are required to fund Mane -> Hazard.

Hmm, and if you do nothing then you lose a free transfer. I wouldn't be selling Baines with him looking to be out for 1 game max, or Fabregas with Chelsea's fixture's either.

I really wouldn't sell Clyne or Mane this week or even Pelle. But like you say, you still have 3 flagged players. I agree with your assessment that atleast two of them should play. I wouldn't do all three, but, with it being a good long term plan, and having a chance of working out this week too, i would just do Pelle > Austin. Should still be able to field a solid 11, and have the bonus of 2 frees next week.

Although it also depends on your reasoning for keeping Welbeck. Is it as he's cheaper so can't afford hazard if you sell him? How about selling both Welbeck and Pelle over the next two weeks, but Welbeck this week? Then getting another budget striker for Pelle next week to afford Hazard

Not sure if all this makes any sense or not, but just my ramblings on it.

Appreciate it. Yes, I was losing Pelle rather than Welbeck pretty much purely due to a financial issue.

Some good food for thought there Demi - will have a play around with my team moving players in and out and see if anything appeals.

                    Thanks for the input 🙂

Valid question, I fancied my chances to break even this week on those moves (at least I did a week ago) and then be better off long term. Next week I'd like to finally lose Begovic.

I'm starting to think I need to start from scratch again. Bugger.

No it does make some sense
If you can afford to bench naylor then I think it is worth it.
Begovic next week is a must so you would end up -4 next week instead and at least this way you in effect have two weeks to pull back that -4

Good framing of the issue. Naylor would be benched but 2 injuries would bring him into play. I think I might just get drunk on Friday night and let fate decide my transfers 😉

Thinking Sakho----->Austin if he's ruled out...or Marney---->Walters and bench Sakho this week.

        Or Sakho---> Eto'o/Fletcher

        Foster
        Bertrand Baines Duff (Chester, Wisdom)
Di Maria Sanchez Downing Hazard(VC) ( Marney)
        Sakho Pelle Aguero(C)

    Aguero captainers

Are u concerned about that Yaya would probably start from the bench (he had a game yesterday and he was benched last time when he had a int. game at Wednsday) and without him (and of course without Silva) City will be even more weaker against very good Swansea defence?

I think I might switch it to Costa, although WBA is one of the best away teams this season.

Would you do Pelle âž¡ Aguero(c) this week for -4 or do it next week for free?Current captain is Costa.

getting Aguero in is worth a minus 4. Long term you simply need him in your team. Points machine! and viable captain every week

I will certainly have him by GW13.Not sure if it's worth getting him this week for Pelle though.

Pelle against a Villa defence in tatters could match or better Aguero this week.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Who will be Gameweek 12's best differential punt?

And by differential this can include high ownership players that few top managers will own or have a low ownership among the community.

On WC and keen to retain some SOU defence coverage as I dont expect them to suddenly turn to shayte even given the fixture (but if they do, i'll bail)

Is Bertrand (5.4 sp) really worth 0.4 over Alderweireld? Ive pencilled in the latter.

I wouldn't go for Southampton defence especially if you are on WC, their fixtures all bad until late December. ps if you persist, yes Bertrand is worth the extra 0.4

There is too much uncertainty after an international break. Its best to keep your team as is and (maybe) use a transfer if its 100% needed. If not, enjoy the 2 free transfers when things clear up in round 13. Anyone on the same wavelength, please share

I'm looking to begin my Southampton exodus tomorrow, with a view to being rid of all three by kick-off next week. I will have 3 FTs spread out over the two weeks to achieve this, and considering a -4 if I think it's worth it. Obviously this plan assumes there's no worse news forthcoming regarding injuries to ADM/Baines/Downing.

    Current team is:

    Forster/Foster
    Baines/Clyne/Naylor/Duff/Wisdom
    Di Maria/Hazard/Siggy/Downing/Boyd
    Kun/Costa/Pelle

    A) I can get to this with a -4:

    Foster/MYHILL
    Baines/Naylor/Duff/Wisdom/YUN
    SANCHEZ/Di Maria/Hazard/Siggy/Downing
    Kun/Costa/ZAMORA

    B) Or this for free:

    Foster/GUZAN (they rotate quite well)
    Baines/IVANOVIC/Naylor/Duff/Wisdom
    Di Maria/Hazard/Siggy/Downing/Boyd
    Kun/Costa/AUSTIN

So it's a case of whether having Sanchez is worth downgrading in all three other departments...

Would prefer if I could decide after the weekend, but I need to make at least one of the transfers this week. Which team do you prefer? Any other ideas?

Forgot to mention that A) leaves 0 in the bank, whereas B) leaves 1.1, making a Sanchez upgrade from either ADM or Hazard a possibility a few weeks down the line. Leaning B myself too, even though it scares me not having Sanchez.
