Yannick Bolasie bullies a beleaguered Liverpool into submission at Selhurst Park while on Humberside, Christian Eriksen inspires a Spurs comeback against 10-man Hull as Harry Kane gets on the scoresheet. Here’s the notes from Sunday’s pair of Premier League fixtures…

Eagles Attack Shows Potency

Crystal Palace seem incapable of keeping clean sheets under Neil Warnock, but they are compensating for this at the opposite end of the pitch: the Eagles have fired 17 goals this season, only two less than Man United, for example. Yannick Bolasie delivered the standout performance in the 3-1 victory over Liverpool, earning a pair of assists to take him to four for the season. Indeed, while Wilfried Zaha and Jason Puncheon continue to battle it out for pitch time on the right wing, Bolasie has now surpassed his returns from last season in just 12 Gameweeks. Priced at 5.4 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Bolasie, along with his skipper, Mile Jedinak, is offer viable mid-price midfield options. Jedinak notched his fourth goal of the season with a sweetly struck free-kick and, with spot-kick duties in his armoury and an FPL price of 5.1, also looks a handy proposition. At 5.1 up front, Dwight Gayle’s situation could also be worth monitoring – he struck the opener on his return to the starting XI ahead of Frazier Campbell, who was relegated to the bench. Warnock’s side face Aston Villa, Spurs and Stoke in their next four, handing that trio a further platform to impress.

Three Defeats in Three For Lifeless Liverpool

Liverpool’s dire form continued with yesterday’s loss, begging the question of whether Brendan Rodger’s team can harbour any hopes challenging at the summit without Daniel Sturridge. Rickie Lambert did at least seize his chance by netting his side’s only goal and could now keep his starting spot ahead of Mario Balotelli once the Italian (who has reached 35 attempts without a goal) returns from a groin injury. Stoke, Leicester and Sunderland are up next for the Reds and do still offer some potential, though managers are unlikely to invest in a side with two goals in their last four. Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling’s remaining owners (37%) are likely to view his performance yesterday as the final straw and we can expect significant sales leading into Gameweek 13.

Ramirez’s Red Tames Tigers

Steve Bruce opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation in Hull’s 2-1 defeat to Spurs yesterday, recalling the fit-again Michael Dawson alongside skipper Curtis Davies. Andrew Robertson also came in at left-back, pushing Robbie Brady into a flank role on the left. Mo Diame sat out with a knee problem, with Bruce confirming that the midfielder will undergo scans later this week. In his absence, the Hull boss handed a first start to Gaston Ramirez on the right flank but saw him suffer an early bath which, ultimately, cost Hull their foothold in the match. Pending an appeal, Ramirez will now miss the next three league encounters which will force the Tigers into a reshuffle. That could offer Abel Hernandez a reprieve after the striker was dropped for the Spurs clash.

Kane Stakes His Claim

Harry Kane continued his excellent form in the Spurs attack by notching the first goal of their comeback win on Humberside. The youngster has 11 goals in 16 appearances this season and with three home fixtures in his next five (EVE, CPL, BUR), the 4.8-valued striker looks a superb “enabler” to generate funds in our midfields. Emmanuel Adebayor missed yesterday’s encounter with a back problem but would seemingly face an uphill task to regain a starting role for the Gameweek 13 visit of Everton. Having said that, with Gameweek 14 occurring in midweek, the likelihood of rotation in the Spurs front line is something to consider.

Eriksen Steps Up

With leading scorer Nacer Chadli missing out due to a knee injury, Cristian Eriksen played a starring role for Mauricio Pochettino’s side yesterday by grabbing a goal and an assist, propelling himself into the top ten highest scoring midfielders in FPL. The Dane had been subbed off at the break in his last two outings, but looks key to his side’s chances if Chadli is ruled out for any length of time. Eriksen’s attacking threat is highlighted by the fact that only Yaya Toure has fired in more efforts from midfield this season than the former Ajax man. Now down to 7.8, and with an ownership of just 7.6%, Eriksen provides an option over Spurs’ aforementioned fixtures and a potentially effective differential.

Currently sitting at 125th globally and no Kun yet !

    Krul
    Baines Clyne Chambers Yun Moore
    ADM Sanchez Fab Siggy Boyd
    Costa Welbs Pelle

spent last week debating a load of 3 transfers for -4 and in the end just did DDG to Krul to free up money to help this week / next week.

who would you bring in ?????

    2 FT and 1.4 itb

looking at improving Welbs and Pelle in the next week or two so obvious names are Kun , Rooney , Bony , Austin , Kane

Captain normally changes a few times then i settle on someone for a few days then i change them again at 11.29 on Saturday!

Costa , Sanchez and ADM look good options. ADM could be overdue a double figures points haul as he had 3 early on but has been quiet last few games ( tougher opposition )

Anyone tempted to keep their Southampton and see how they get on vs Man City before bailing out.
Surely possible that Southampton continue to do ok during these fixtures!

    1. Owd Big 'Ed
      • 16 Years
      11 years, 25 days ago

I'm of similar thinking to be honest, I don't see any sort of form from the other teams to suggest that Southampton can't beat these teams or at least get a goal or two against them. I think they'll find it difficult to keep any clean sheets against them, but I certainly see Tadic and Pelle continuing to offer points potential.

I don't see anybody to be fearful of in this league, home or away. Obviously, Chelsea are the most difficult side, hence why they're top, but even so I think Chelsea at home is still a winnable fixture for any team.

Chelsea seems to be the only tough fixture right now. I can see all the other teams getting some form of returns from each other. Defending seems to be a dying art.

I have Bertrand and Pelle. Depends on tonight but Chadli could be my no 1 issue right now. I can see myself keeping at least one of the two of SOT, maybe both.

Hmm, going to go and price this one up. Like the sound of it, and a QPR def for their current home fixtures could be fruitful. Thanks. I have toyed with the other suggestion too, as I like Hazard's more guaranteed minutes over Xmas, but not sure if I want to lose both Tadic and Pelle.

Yeah, I think I'd keep one of the two of them. It'd almost be a blessing if Pelle got a YC this eve (along with a hat trick) as it would mean the decision of which to lose would be much simpler!

    2. Owd Big 'Ed

You've got a similar side to mine. Same front-line and 4/5 of the back-line, although my midfield is different.

Given the balance of your team, I'd keep Tadic, lose Pelle. Consider downgrading to Austin and then upgrading Downing or Sigurdsson. How much is King? You have bigger fish to fry there if he's uber cheap. If not you may want to consider downgrading to Boyd to make room for upgrades elsewhere.

      1. viewoftheland
        • 14 Years
        11 years, 25 days ago

King is 4.5, but he's in and out of the Leicester team. If he was a starter, I'd not bother, but it's bitten me this week with all the injuries. If I get a spare transfer, King > Boyd would be it, but I agree I've other things to focus on. I'm happy with Siggy, good fixtures, and Downing as long as his injury isn't that bad.

Could do Pelle > Austin, then sit on the funds and see how Tadic does against City. Another interesting option. Thanks.

The trouble with mulitple injuries etc is that you can easily end up forced into making transfers that you didnt really want to make otherwise. This can easily leave you with a team you dont like the look of.

Compound this with the fact that at least 1 of my planned transfer targets is also injured by looks of things (as potentially is the alternative!) and things look ropey!

This is the scenario I find myself in now. Been there before too, and it can be hard to recover from. However, i personally view this as a challenge to find my best way out. 🙂

    How would/will you handle it?

For example, one thing it may somewhat force my hand with is whether to shift Southampton assets. I had planned to lose at least 1 of my 2, but wasn't 100%, given that on paper their up coming opposition looks hard but havent exactly covered themselves in glory in reality.

Now, it seems foolish to ditch players who are fit and I may have to take a chance on Tadic.....

Tempted to get Rooney instead of Costa but surely it won't be wise to continue any longer without high ownership players like Diego and Siggy.

Follow your gut. Unless you had a curry the night before.

For the record, I disagree with you. I think Costa is going to score points consistently well over the season and is offering far greater potential than Rooney based on both being in a better team and being a better striker.

However, if you think Rooney is going to do well over the coming game weeks, don't worry about ownership. That will soon follow.

but with Costa I have atleast one good captain option every week.

If we get news about Rvp being dropped/injured then I might opt Roonpig.

Costa wins over rooney every day of the week. Especially if falcao comes back in and they play two up top again, with rooney in behind.

Rooney is very tempting just because of the lack of captains this weekend.

I don't see Falcao as a long term threat. He'll be crocked again.

That is very useful information! Much obliged.

I've gone with Sanchez because I can see him running riot against WBA; they've conceded at least 2 goals in all but two GWs and basically all Arsenal's goals are coming from or via Alexis.

If I had, I wouldn't be, although I think Hazard and Sanchez are stronger right now.

Di Maria is highly involved for a good attacking side with promising fixtures. I wouldn't have been expecting much out of that game at Arsenal anyway, so an assist is surely hopeful, no?

Community Scout Picks are up guys, feel free to pick your teams and we'll get some good competition going this week. Some solid sides already been posted, with decent consensus among the attacking players from most.

    My team is below:
    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/11/24/fantasy-football-scout-community-champion-gwk-12/?hc_page=1#hc_comment_8893730

I've given this a lot of thought as I don't see many clean sheets at all next weekend. Based on this, I went for an attacking back-line as well as the usual suspects going forward.

Please have a browse and if you feel it is strong, give it an up-vote. If you disagree let me know why and I can build on this for next time.

All in the name of fun and love.
