It’s “squeaky bum time” in the ScoutCast studio as Granville continues to chip away at my previously “unassailable” mini-league lead. My co-host stumbled through an injury-strewn Gameweek 12 with the honours, leaving me trailing and worrying that he’ll have clawed it all back by Christmas.

Pressing on, we flog the Hazard vs Fabregas debate once again and run the rule over a cast of budget strikers, desperately searching for the optimum way to spend the two transfers burning holes in our pockets.

We asses the week’s transfer bandwagons, look ahead to Gameweek 13 and take time out to tease Jonty on his Di Maria u-turn. We then combine “powers” to terrifying effect and prepare the ScoutCast XI for their Fantasy Football Scout Cup qualifying round, having flexed its muscles to the tune of a 59-point Gameweek 12. Intimidating stuff.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone thinking if Baines ruled out for Totenham he might get rested for Hull 4 days later so he is 100% for MCI ?

I think he'll play as soon as he's declared fit. Hopefully, that's this weekend.

let me consult my crystal ball 😉

Given the home fixtures, his nailedonness and penalty taking duties he should be good value 🙂

Put it this way, if QPR do not perform over the next couple of weeks they will go down. They will know this. This is a decent chance at a run of games which could put some life into them.

Now if I keep rationalising like this I may even have him in my own team 😛 Luckily I have a decision over Bony/Rooney and not him and someone else.

Have you seen Leic's fixtures? They look bad, they've been losing to teams at the bottom of the table. They are going to get relegated, can't afford to lose to relegation rivals.

I can sense an Ulloa scoring spree soon. I have been hanging onto him on my B-team because have had more pressing issues to fix.

SUN / qpr ? LIV looks like a fairly soft run of fixtures to be fair.

Ulloa has scored 5 goals on his 7 shots this season, all of which came in the first 4 gw's. Not exactly hinting at an explosion is it...

Initial plan was Sakho but the injury ruined that, then had exact cash +0.1 for Pelle, Clyne, Downing > Siggy, Hutton, Bony
but Siggy and Pelle both changed on the same night and now I'm stumped :/

Thanks To Innsie's advice of Cissokho to Hutton...Now I have 0.3 more to spend on my mids.

    So..with Brady would you have

    1) Jedinak (current)

    2) Bolasie

    3) Brunt

    4) Some other mid till 5.4m tag

    1. Jafalad

      4. Make it as cheap as possible ideally Boyd. You won't need this player, saves you bench points and allows you to buy in more expensive options.

Try to keep the big picture always in mind. Not sure why you want Brady.

Moin what I'd do with your team is swap Brady and Jedinak for Boyd and Downing, Boyd is nailed on and cheap as chips, and Downing looks to now be fit and has good fixtures and more attacking threat than the two mids you'll be rotating. Rotating attackers doesn't work as well as rotating defenders as attacking returns are a lot harder to predict than clean sheets amongst the smaller/cheaper players.

To fund this, downgrade DDG or get Yun for Caulker or Naylor for Rangel.

I can see him moving from Barca soon, his relationship with the club has definitely soured of late and he's under pressure in Spain over his tax affairs. If he were to move there's not many places he could realistically go - Chelsea, City, PSG?

How could any team afford that, and balance the books?

City and PSG are already in trouble, and Chelsea couldn't spend that sort of money.

I'm not a fan of your Welbeck Austin and Agüero strike force.

Also the while Dorrans thing is a bit much as is starting Morgan Schniedrlin.

I'd make some adjustments to thus straight away if I was you Gnu.

My priorities to lose would be Schneiderlin, Dorrans and Welbz (because there is a little injury concern as well as Giroud's return causing play time to be more up in the air).

If by rearranging you could stretch to Welbz -> Bony I think things would be looking much better.

The plan is Schneid & Welbeck > Ings & Siggy. Just mulling over Ings, don't fancy Kane but he's looking an option & Sakho is injured. Ings is nailed.

People can change their mind though, he might not of done it deliberately. He's entitled not to go through with a trade if he doesn't think it'll benefit his team. It's unfortunate for you, but you did use a risky strategy.

          1. rickardinho
            • 11 Years

I specifically asked him not to burn me as I was only accepting the other trade only to make a trade with him. Its risky sure, but there's a level of trust and gentleman behavior that was just hypocritically ignored.

If he doesn't think the trade can help his team he shouldn't agree to the trade in the first place! I asked him several times and also sent the offer before any other games were played but he deliberately ignored that despite having agreed beforehand that he wouldn't.

If that's the non-amicable standard that's going to be set I will probably reconsider being involved in the league at all, because it just empties out any enjoyment from the game when it just makes you frustrated and angry.

Well I've asked around to about 6-7 people in the league and everyone (except you it seems) thinks I've been royally shafted. I've emailed HOH but he doesn't want to force the trade through as it could set a grey-zone precedent for him as admin apparently, but when the conversation history is so clear and in black and white it feels like it should be enough really.

Unless it can get sorted somehow I might consider having HOH put it to a vote, to see if people think it should be ratified or not. Another alternative is to name and shame, but I'd like to avoid that if possible as I prefer keeping things friendly. Feel free to suggest any other ideas if you can think of anything?

coleman scores goals...6 points per goal is absolute gold! and everton will keep a clean sheet here and there...lamela is expendable but can get a nice haul from time to time...lukaku isn't very explosive...compare him to coleman - lukaku may score more goals but then coleman's goals are worth more and he doesn't get any clean sheets, of which they should keep at least 6-7 more...bolasie is good but very similar to erik, in his streakiness...lamela has 4 assists, bolasie has 1 goal and 4 assists, not much difference and given erik's class i can see a spike at some point...

excuse the chaotic nature of this reply 🙂

            Cheers mate, appreciated!

What if i included a Balotelli for Benteke swap, would that make it better?

I agree with you about Coleman, he's one of the best players to own, and could very well get 10 goals this season if he stays fit, which is effectively 15 goals for a striker due to getting 6 points for each goal.

The only thing that's pushing me towards the trade is the fact that its very easy to find decent defenders in free agents... like how i got coloccini today for example.

What do you think of my team in general btw?

            Forster Heaton
            Coleman Clyne Coloccini
            Yaya Lamela Milner
            Balotelli J-Rod Remy

Obviously a bit short up front but I think JRod could be a really nice surprise for me there. I love my defensive-5 though, and pleased that I got Yaya as he could be coming into some great form now to rival Hazard-ADM-Sanchez 😀

looks very nice, except for the front line, which I guess explains why you want lukaku...balo for tekkers is an upgrade imo, and yes you are right about the free agent defenders! you can even just have a merry-go-round of claiming and dropping defenders from small teams to get the good fixtures, which would perhaps make losing coleman more bearable 🙂

              1. rickardinho
                • 11 Years
                11 years, 23 days ago

Indeed. I've already got CS's from Manquillo and Shackell for one odd fixture before dumping them, worked like a charm. Of course I also had the pleasure of Clyne's CS run as well as his goal vs Villa 🙂

I was really hoping that Sturridge would come back as that would help Balotelli massively, but I've got a couple of ideas up my sleeve to try to sort that attack out a bit. 😉

I'm tempted to trade Clyne btw, he's ranked 5th overall right now so could get a decent return, but he's such great value too. What sort of striker do you think I could get for him? I think Austin or Sakho might be a bit much, but perhaps Pelle or Benteke straight up?

smell the coffee ricky-ballotelli was a mistake, a BR panic buy-you need shot of him
Now i've seen your team the move to get Luka becomes clearer with your other 2 strikers similarly challenged with injury and playing time.
personally i'd trade on jrod as 'future'-he's had a very serious injury he either joins the circus or stays at an in form saints team but still people highly rate him on form-you might be able to trade him for a lesser but currently performing striker

Good point mate. J-Rod fell into my lap and as you say he is pretty highly regarded. If he goes to Spurs he could be a revelation as he'd have to play every week if they pay £20m for him.

I can't think of many strikers I could get for him who are nailed on and decent... I doubt I could get Austin or Ings for him at this stage given their form... any ideas of an under-the-radar striker who's a better choice right now?

                      might be too ambitious
can't see your league -i'd need to personalise it

in the draft(ish) leagues the best trades are those where it appears there's something in it for both of you -ripping off trades never get anywhere-(my favourite this year was getting mane when he was hardly known in straight exchange for marney when he was holding the burnley midfield together)-any saints/spurs fans, anybody got one/two already functioning strikers who could take on the invalid and not hurt.......
and then say can i live with their cast off striker
do you have limits on size of swaps -3 or 4 players going each way can increase interest and flex-
lamela and coleman already going ,add ballo and jrod
or sell jrod and ballo together and see what comes back

i should not be telling you all of how my draft mind works......

All good ideas. Don't worry about sharing your secrets as I'm a pretty shrewd trader myself 😉

I made 5 trades during the draft, and have already made 4 this season...

                        1. Picked up Shackell from free agents and got a CS from him before trading for Heaton (with the guy who had 2 GK's), so now I have Forster-Heaton rotation which is perfect, and can also try to extort the guy who doesn't have a GK 🙂

                        2. Ramsey+Cabella for Coleman+J-Rod... Found an Arsenal fan who was willing to take on the slumping Ramsey and give me Coleman. The "makeweight" was him getting Cabella, but I think I got the better side of that one too lol.

                        3. Moreno+Coutinho for Lamela+Milner... needed to get rid of Liverpool players and got a handsome return i think, right before Moreno started to get rotated last GW to lose his "nailed on" tag 🙂

                        4. Gerrard+Navas for Yaya+Haidara (and i just did Haidara>Coloccini in free agents)... Gerrard slumping and potentially a rotation risk now, with Navas who's in good form, for Yaya who could return to being a monster in midfield. Very happy i got that trade done. Yaya goes to ACON but I do have Milner who can cover for him when he's gone.

5th trade in the works.. trying to package some of my players like you suggested, but its very time consuming finding the right deals that seem to work for both sides! 😀

Btw, I'm quite keen on Downing as I think he's somewhat underrated still... do you think its too much to give up J-Rod for him?

What sort of return would you look for from J-Rod while his potential is still high?

But is it really that clear a trade to make though? j-rod could be a top striker for Spurs... whereas Downing is.. well he is Stewart Downing afterall..:D

Plus, strikers are hard to get really, which makes J-Rod very valuable indeed, despite his injury risk. I'm also keeping tabs on Vokes fwiw.. Though right now I don't have a free agent spot free to get him.

i would because in a bps free world its stripped down to basics
i think there is more extra to come from lukaku than coleman, bolly on his day is a wizard and lamela is a lost soul in poch's travelling circus.
i'd play hard done by ,knowing i ultimately wanted lukaku, and throwing in a third trade favourable to me.
I am emotionally biased-last year i had the biter and luka in my draft-played them every week (after suarez returned to play)-absolutely blinding...

        Nice, thanks.

Coleman got 6g+2a+16cs's last season, which was phenomenal.. and he finished 8th overall in scoring. I'm not sure about Bolasie though, he's so hit and miss and inconsistent. I'd like to get that big striker though, so maybe its worth it i don't know. Coleman just feels like one of the safest players to own in the league as he's surely going to get CS's and around 6-8 goals again... and his goals count 6 points compared to 4 for lukaku, which is massive in a league with no baps

all i'm saying is go for the big striker but lay it on heavy and get a third trade tied in which is obviously favourable to yourself-
coleman might look better than lukaku but it might not be neccessarily so and there are other defenders

Thanks all. I do like the front 7. Have tinkered with getting Eriksen in there form either Siggy or ADM but in the end I think I will stick with them. I also agree the defence needs a re-jig and I think downgrading Clichy is the way to do it (perhaps aiming for something like Taylor - Collins - Hutton - Trippier - Yun... I'll keep working on it).

I think their best assets are in midfield, maybe even up front. Warnock can't organise a defence to save his life so I don't think they will improve much defensively irrespective of fixtures (I speak from bitter experience)

Supposedly takes 2 weeks which would be today. Martinez said he'd seen him come back from the same injury in 8 days which is why he had a small chance to play last week. If there's no added problems he should have a good chance v spurs.

I'm still intrigued by the situation at Stoke. Since the re-introduction of Bojan they have been lining up, and playing, with two mids ahead of the striker (just as the Swans did early season)..

I'm intrigued by how they have set up. With Crouch it was a simple set up with him playing well ahead of the team as a target man. With Bojan in the team it looks more like he is supplying in the channels for Walters and Moses(!)...It's always worth watching teams who set up like that. Hard to say just looking at avg positions though. Hence I want a view from the terraces...

        Stoke fan here (waves arms).

Agreed, Moses out is a blow but it depends how Hughes decides to replace him.

Assaidi offers a similar threat of pace down the flank but Arnie could also come in for a more creative role.

Even Stoke fans are slightly unsure of our direction this season, our home form is actually quite poor - yet we're becoming quite a dangerous away team.

I think this is because we have a bit of pace on the flanks for the counter and Walters, Diouf in particular put in ridiculous shifts closing down the opposition defense high up the pitch, this seems to work better when teams are set up to come at you.

The Burnley game was a bit of an anomaly - we battered them for 83 minutes. We'd win that game comfortably most weeks.

On balance, I'd avoid Stoke assets if i'm honest, the fixtures are horrible and I don't see us constantly turning over the big boys.

    Doos,
I did not mean to belittle the work you do with the stats tables - it's really good and enlightening many times, however, when there are such good or bad fixtures tables don't take those things into account and you should be cautious with the results.
Now, I'm not saying thee is a need to donate an organ in order to buy siggy, but to actually go and sell him, before fixtures go complete 180, is In my humble opinion an over reliance on imperfect data - tableitis if you want...

I think it was in the 5 weeks before Arsenal and City he only had 2 shots or something close to that which is rubbish for someone considering essential by some.

You don't need to shoot to be a good option, especially at that price. People have been saying the same thing about Fabregas all season and he's still the 2nd highest scoring mid.

If you watch swans play, he is pivotal to what they do. It does not always result in shots, but he is capable of assists and goals on good games, and from a 6.7 mid it's more than you can hope for. Now, I did not say essential to buy - but selling him now before such good fixtures is a bit over the top.
