Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

I'm scared to do Aguero with previous struggles against Sunderland for City. Think Fabregas or Hazard will be the one for me

After a couple of bad defeats for my draft side, I'm looking to get back on track. I could do with your opinions folks on my team....

    Adrian

    Caulker/Naylor/Trippier

    Lampard/Tadic/Montero/Barkley

    RVP/Lukaku/Giroud

    Bench: Austin/Mane/Walcott/Bertrand/Mangala

Two things really, who would be the best captaincy bet and have I got the right starting XI out?

    swans to beat qpr
    palace villa draw

For next weekend i can do Downing to any midfielder.

    A. Sanchez (Giroud effect, playing wider?)
    B. Yaya (picking up form, Silva coming back will affect?)
    C Other

    Team
    Foster/ Elliot
    Clyne/Hutton/Chambers/NTaylor/Yun
    Hazard/Fabregas/Siggy/Downing/Boyd
    Costa/Aguero/Austin

If you see the fixture list, Man City have the best fixtures in terms of attacking potential. So other than Aguero, who else are you all investing in? Silva may be back soon?

Yes this is the tough part. Want to take advantage of the fixtures but there's no standout option except for Aguero.

Nasir, navas, yaya, milner, lampard and silva (when fit) to share the points.

Injuries among Newcastle back line seems a perfect condition for our Boyd to shine again. With many managers are forced to play him this week, I think I should also play him and bench Kane who will face Chelsea defence unit.

I asked here yesterday and most responses thought Kane might be better option. Not sure if those injuries, eg. Coloccini, Williamson, Heidara, Krul, might change your mind?

I've just looked at the Prem table. I don't think it's going to be Liverpool's year. Again.
Does anyone have a link to a cheap second hand VCR player. I have loads of tapes from the 80s that I need to re-watch.

Barnes, Beardsley, Rush, Houghton, Hansen, Lawrenson, Nicol, Aldridge, McMahon, Whelan, Dalglish, Wark, Ray Kennedy, Alan Kennedy, Walsh, Souness, Molby, Johnstone.

... just let a 40 yr old reminisce. please 🙁

Look on the brightside, at least you still see their name when you look at the table. 😉

The United fans went through so much pain with 20 something odd years without a title before Steve Moose got 2 injury time headers.
Liverpool fans will be waiting way longer than that.
In fact, it's conceivable that Liverpool will never win another title. It's all about the money now, and Chels, City and United will win the next 20 titles.
Arsenal have fallen behind because of fixation on transfer policy but are still ahead of Liverpool by a good few years because of the stadium and revenue and more shrewd transfers.

Arsenal should really be putting up a credible challenge but their so lacking in the business end of things because of their soft defence and lack of hardness in midfield.
Liverpool, your maybe right but with everything that the club has it would only take a brilliant Shanks like character to win them the league.
Not being niave and of course money counts for most things... but not everything.
Did ManU have the best team/squad for 20 odd years, hell they did but Fergie was a helluva man manager and Liverpool are that kind of club.
Sounds old fashioned but it sure works.

Morning guys. I got Eriksen in last week at 7.8 he's now 7.9. Shall I stick this week or take a hit to get in Sigurdsson for -4? He could score more than 6 if eriksen just gets 2 points.

Then if Sanchez plays crap on the wing again I can do Sanchez> Eriksen the week after.

Well I didn't see it. But I mean he had no FPL output. Thanks for answering the question though.

    Morning peeps.

First and foremost, why no more love for Ivanovic? Any chance that he'll be slightly more attacking with Diego's absence?

      Morning!
Only one is possible imo. Either Ivan will get attacking returns or Chelsea will keep clean sheets. So basically depend on Mourniho what he likes 🙂
I dont think Ivan will be given that much freedom for now onwards...

Fair point. Yeah, maybe Mour likes to keep it tight nowadays. Still contemplating which CHE defenders to bring in.

If you have a backup keeper from the same team, is it always the case that he starts? If he comes on due to a red, you avoid the red and get the penalty save chance.

No you would just get the points from the first keeper including the red. He played, so he doesn't get subbed. Even if it happened 10 seconds in.

Which is why you start the backup in the first 11. In a normal game the first choice will sub in end of the game week.

Got recommendation to look at Zabelta as City defensive and offensive option.

    What's the thoughts here?

City defense has been unimpressive, especially considering price.

City leaking goals at the minute. Zab assured of a YC almost every game. Attacking threat exagerrated. After 4 games this season his score was -1 😆 Think I'll need a bit more persuasion

    A. Play Marney, bench Costa.

    B. Costa -> Bony -4

      B. Costa doesn't do enough BPs, assists or double pointers. 11m is too much to be doubting whether you should captain him.
