Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening as Fantasy managers quickly turn their attentions to the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

After his midweek demolition of Sunderland, Sergio Aguero is head and shoulders above any other candidate as City prepare for the visit of Everton. Selected by 52% of voters so far, the Argentine – in spite of his superb season – has surprisingly blanked in three of his six home appearances and has managed only one double-figure haul at the Etihad to date. The Toffees roll up to Manchester in poor defensive form, though – without a clean sheet on their travels all season, Roberto Martinez’ side have conceded in five of the last six Gameweeks.

Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are both fancied to deliver the goods away to Newcastle. Costa has delivered more yellow cards than goals on the road (five to four) and has notched just once in his last three away trips but having missed out due to suspension in midweek, he’ll be raring to go against the injury-hit Magpies. Hazard has yet to score on his travels this season – indeed, the Belgian has managed only two assists away from Stamford Bridge all season and has blanked in each of his last four appearances on the road.

Charlie Austin’s superb home form brings the QPR top scorer into consideration, with 7% of the votes cast. The budget striker has racked up four goals and two assists in his last four at Loftus Road and, up against a Burnley side with a single clean sheet on their travels, he’s looking for a third 10+ points haul in front of his own fans which would fire the R’s out of the drop zone.

After netting Villa’s winner at Palace on Tuesday evening, Christian Benteke is amongst the favourites for a plum home clash with Leicester. The Foxes arrive without suspended skipper Wes Morgan and look unlikely to improve a defensive record which has seen them keep out their opponents in just one of the last 10 Gameweeks.

Alexis Sanchez is also in contention as the Gunners roll up to Stoke. Unlike Chelsea’s Hazard, the Chilean has delivered on the road – four of his nine league goals have arrived outside of the Emirates, suggesting he could be a real differential against a Potters side with a single shut-out since Gameweek 3.

I want to get Aguero into my team which at present looks like this:

    Courtois Mannone
    Clyne Chambers Azpilicueta Baines Naylor
    Sanchez Hazard Tadic Siggy Jedinak
    Bony Pelle Austin

I have 2FT and 1.2M ITB (willing to take a -4 hit if necessary)

    Please help!!

    Thanks in advance.

in this case: Baines > Hutton, Tadic > Siggy, Pelle > Kun

maybe we can give better advice if you tell us how much you need after Pelle > Kun in the transfer preview?

After Pelle > Kun I have £-3.9M ITB 1FT and willing to take a -4 hit. Thank you so much to everyone who's replied. I'm genuinely shocked people are. Clearly new to this!

It has to be pelle to aguero. You could maybe do bony to kane as well or downgrade courtois. A lot of money in defence.

        Definitely doing Pelle > Aguero
Not to keen on Kane. Making an effort to avoid spurs players (too unpredictable)
        Thanks for the advice.

    Backline of

Clyne, Chambers, Baines, Hutton and Wisdom.

Is Clyne and Chambers to Azpi and Yun worth two free transfers??

I would keep Chambers for now, Arsenal are starting to get clean sheets and I think there are two more games at least before Debuchy's return.

    Worth a 4 point hit?

    Baines (out) - Azpilicueta (in)
    Berahino (out) - Austin (in)

Baines is simply taking up too much value i think

I wouldn't have any of your defence, bar maybe chambers. Serious money spent there.
Personally don't like mirallas but has done well lately.

    A) Fabs > Haz
    B) Saylor > Hutton ( Have Dummett)
    C) Berahino > Costa

Not sure if necessarily Costa is worth it, but I would definitely consider switching Berahino to either Bony, Benteke, Austin or Costa. Just don't think he will produce a whole lot over the coming GW's, regardless of OK fixtures.

      I'm considering Fabs to Haz

But there's only like 1 point difference in them.

Cost to points ratio between the 2 probably evens itself out.

Though Fabs points have dwindled recently whilst Haz has shone.
Instead of Costa I could get a £6-10m fwd and have an extra bit of cash for Haz and Azpi later.

        Not sure... 🙁

    Guzan (Elliot)
    Baines, Bartley, Wisdom (Clyne, Dummet)
    Siggy, Fab, Sanchez, Downing (Marney)
    Bony, Costa, Aguero

GTG? Can't decide whether to play baines or clyne... I'm considering giving kun the armband so would be a bit backwards to play baines, right?

Rather have Baines and Hutton/Wisdom than Cresswell and Clichy, for example.

    1) Ivanovic + Terry
    Or
    2) Ivanovic + Zabs

Feel like Zabs will score more in attack, but Terry doubles up any CFC cleanie.

    Thoughts?

You wouldn't go Ivan if money no object? He's still in the box more than most midfielders

    A) Rooney > Costa
    B) Krul > Guzan and play over Foster (hul)
    C) Save FT

Need to ditch Tadic, but for whom...?

    A) Eriksen
    B) Mirallas

Also would u do Clyne to Azpi for a -4. Although he costs more I think with Azpi u never need to worry who he's up against because Chelsea will concede very few goals.

Miralles has two tricky fixtures in next three, whereas Eriksen has two plum fixtures and is likely to get more minutes.

So, of the two, Eriksen for me

        Eriksen has
CPL,swa,BUR,lei. Next four. Just worried that he's a bit hot and cold but having said that he's probably the best replacement in that price range.

Would u do the Clyne to Aspirin move aswell ? Haven't taken that many hits this season so willing to do one for the greater good 🙂

I would only take a defensive hit if there are injury problems personally. I very very rarely take hits though, so I am the wrong person to ask if you're looking for encouragement! 🙂

Feels slightly stupid when you compare the quality of player - but QPR must win, Burnley poor but also can't sit back... Austin a natural goal scorer. Made for him!

On a wildcard, and stuck between 2 combinations, one risky, one safe. Which would you choose?

    A. Costa, Downing, N.Taylor
    B. Benteke, Eriksen, Azpi

Definitely possible, I guess I'm viewing that Eriksen is an upgrade on Downing

Now that UTD plays 4-1-2-1-2, Rooney is a better FPL player than Costa. Do you agree?

I have 2 free transfers and no clue what to do with them.

    My team:

    Foster / Krul
    Baines / Bertrand / Chambers / Taylor / Moore
    Fabregas / Sanchez / Chadli / Siggy / Marney
    Costa / Kun / Austin

    Help!

Chadli hasn't started the past few games, so not sure if he is the best to keep. An option to replace him is Downing.

I'd also want Bertrand out (due to fixtures + injured Schneiderlin + Cork). It's a shame you'll be just short of Bertrand + Chadli > Downing and Azpi, as I think that's the ideal move.

Maybe: Krul + Clyne + Chadli > Elliot + Downing + Azpi (-4)? But then again, Chadli has decent fixtures, all depends on whether he gets into the 11 or not.

Tbh its a pretty good team youve got there.

Mmmmaaayybbbeee.... Chambers > Hutton (Debuhcys back soon) and Fabregas> Hazard

Maybe Baines + Cesc => defender + Hazard.
      I'd probably regret it though.

Hi guys I have two FTs and 1.1 ITB

I want to do Cahill> Bartley as that would give me 3.6 Mill

How can I best use that 3.6 to upgrade a midfield of

    Siggy, Sterling, Fabregas, Tadic, Albrighton

    a) Fab and Tadic > Hazard, YYT (-4)
    b) Tadic > Hazard
    c) Tadic > YYT
    d) Fab > Hazard or YYT
    e) Albrighton > Downing (and look at using the 1.8 ITB this leaves me with to do Tadic>Silva next week if fit)

Really keen on Hazard if poss and M City have a good run coming up, so YYT or Silva

Hmm I am of course. I think ive been blinded by the allure of Hazard and Citys fixtures

Cahill, Tadic > Bartley, Sanchez ...

I would rather have Sanchez. Hazard is obviously not a bad pick though.
